Women’s Sports!

With the Women’s World Cup in full stride, I watched this video of a Japanese goalie whiffing the ball in what has to be one of the worst displays of goal tending I’ve ever seen.

traffic-cone-48Odd that the over/under was 2.5 and with her team leading 2-0, she let this one go past. This inevitably leads to the question, at what level are these women playing? A cone could have made this save.

I found a thread in an old soccer forum that said that the US Woman’s national team played the Under-17 Men’s team in a scrimmage back in 2012…and lost 8-2. A few tweets from the match.

soccer-star-alex-morgan-dishes-on-flat-abs-and-a-flawless-face-headerI found a game like this fascinating for 3 reasons:

1) It must be difficult for one of the best female team’s in the world to find competition outside of their nation thus having to play better teams to hone their skills.
2) Under 17 year old men are far better players than our national team.  If you asked me to place my money on a team before it started it would have been a complete guess.
3) If I was a 17 year old kid I would be all over Alex Morgan

Bachelorette Will Equal Women’s World Cup Ratings

*** The actual ratings numbers have not been released ***

katie

Horn Dog Kaitlyn

The Bachelorette brought in 6.6 million viewers on Monday night. The US Open brought in 11.2 million the night before. The USA Women’s World Cup game against Columbia brought in what most likely will be in the 5-6 million viewer range based off this past data.

We’re also reminded that the 3.3 million who watched the U.S. women’s opening match against Australia was triple the viewership for the U.S. opener in 2011, while the 4.2 million who watched the next matchup with Sweden and the 5 million who saw the group-clinching win against Nigeria earlier this week rank among the largest audiences in U.S. women’s soccer history.

Alex Morgan scores first goal to give US a 1-0 lead over Columbia

Does anyone find it sad that the Women’s World Cup team, who only gets to play in this tournament every 4 years, may lose to a show that is on its 11th season promoting the same sorry story line?

The contrast in the two programs should cause worry. On one hand we have 11 girls giving it all on the world’s stage in an elimination game where a loss deprives a team from going back for 4 years.  On the other hand we have Katilyn making out with Nick for an hour and half. To put this as simply as possible, Sex > Women’s Sports.

The only part of this that strikes a nerve with me is that it’s the World Cup and it feels like an exhibition game.  I’ve never been a huge soccer fan but I watched the Men’s World Cup games for national pride.  Other country’s take Futbol far more seriously than the US and the country deserves fan support.   The World Cup is the World Cup, men or women, and the amount of people who watch it should exceed that of the Bachelorette.

West Coast Golf Birdies!

coar01_washington

Chamber’s Bay, Wa

The US Open plays this week at Chambers Bay in Washington which offers the chance for us East Coasters to watch golf in the evening .  This does not happen as often as you think, considering the PGA was last played on the West Coast in ’98, the Masters is always Augusta, British Open (wee morning) in the UK, and the US Open was in CA in 2012.   To speak to the point of the title and why my excitement level is high is because it’s 11pm and the broadcast is still going on Fox.

I don’t much like Joe Buck doing golf but at least Chris Berman is sitting on the sidelines.  Choosing actual golfers to commentate instead of personality’s makes more sense to me.  Buck for baseball and Berman for football.  A gripe I have with the coverage is that the leaderboard should switch to lower scores more often than it does.  The key to a golf broadcast is making sure the camera is following the ball smoothly and let the players will put on the show.  Cue Tiger.

Tiger Woods at US Open

Worst career round at US Open

Tiger shot a first round 80 (+10).  He looked old.  I watched a few holes and on after one of his drives he posed exactly like I do when my hooked drive sails towards a window.  His poor aura also effected the energy of his playing partners as well.  Rickie Fowler shot an 81 and Louie Louis Oosthuizen shot 77.  Entertaining though.

I put 10 dollars on Billy Horschel to win it at 50-1 and he fired a first round +2.  He’s going to have to get hot.  I’ll probably throw some 2nd round cash down for a bit more action.  I’ll post it on Twitter tomorrow.

Hottest Girls on 2015 Women’s World Cup Team

I’m not a very respected blogger so it seems fitting that I use this post to show a lack of respect to women’s soccer and instead of writing about their 3-1 victory over Australia Monday evening, I point out who the best looking players are.  I watched the 2nd half and 4 of the 5 girls I mention played and the other one I’m just assuming is on the team because I looked at a website.  I’m also pretty sure that Megan Rapinoe and Abby Wambach get it on.

5. Tobin Heath
27 years old and “perhaps the USA’s most skillful player.” Has that girl next door look and obviously quite a talent. I’ve never heard of her before so I can’t write much except she both looks good and plays well.

4. Amy Rodriguez
The female A-rod. She’s 28, has a baby, and is a devout Christian. I’m not seeing that she gets a lot of playing time but she’s a beauty nonetheless.

3. Hope Solo
Hope Solo is crazy. An entire blog post could be dedicated to her lunatic ways. Recently, all charges were dropped against her after she attacked her sister’s 17 year old (who apparently is 6-8), who then hit her over the head with a broomsick, and then she was taken away in handcuffs by police all while being plastered. Either way she’s pretty hot and the obvious face of the team as the goalie. Plus who can forget the Hope Solo scary vagina pics from the Fappening. Do not let your curiosity get the better of you on this one. Trust me. She’s also one of the best goaltenders in the world which is why she gets away with being crazy.

2. Alex Morgan
I knew Alex Morgan was attractive but I wasn’t really sure what she did. It turns out she doesn’t even start for the national team and got in with 10 minutes left in a 3-1 game. Either way she is a beautiful woman who is good enough to play on the team. What a babe.

1. Julie Johnston
Alex Morgan is the obvious #1 but that’s too easy. If Julie Johnston is caught at the right angles, she’s a dime. Up close and from the front is not her best look. From afar and on the field, she’s top notch. She’s only 23 and the sweeper for the team. What do you think of her?

Tell me she doesn’t stand out like sore thumb.

Beach time ❤️

Golfing Under Pressure

Bud said, “it sounds like you are doing these activities, like golf and bowling, that are supposed to be fun and end up being stressful.”  I pondered internally his observation that I knew to be true and wondered myself what was I thinking.

FOB-Golfer-choking-631.jpg__800x600_q85_cropI participated in a 2 day golf tournament where 15 groups of 2 played.   I was matched up with an unknown who I met the day I teed off.  The format was one where there were 4 separate 9’s which involved scrambles, better ball scores, and modified chapmans.  The tee times were at 9am and I had to drive an hour away so I pretty much had to give up my entire weekend to play in this tournament.

What I learned is that golf can be extremely tense if your partner is depending on your shots and score.  The back 9 on the 2nd day was essentially a non-stop “don’t fuck up” situation.   I had a triple bogey on a hole where I was 20 yards off the green in 2 on a par 4.   I was too quick on the follow through and open bladed the ball directly to the right even further behind the green.  2 holes later I was in a green side sand trap in 2 and HAD to make a good bunker shot, which I did.  The very next hole I hit a fine drive and then pulled a 60 yard shot into the sand.  I duffed the sand shot and got a double on the hole.  Amazingly I pared 17 and 18 (with a 40 ft putt) and wound up with a 44 back to join a 43 front.  When I say I was relieved to be finished I say this with the utmost sincerity.

18Was it fun?  I’m not sure.  It was a spot that tested how good you can be under pressure.  This was the first time in my life where I put my golf game on the line like this and I believe I came away a better golfer.  I played with some experienced players who taught me a thing or two about the rules and gave me some good tips putting and driving.  When I played a round afterwards with my friends it was amazing to just have fun playing without worrying about a score.  If you can score your best score when it counts, it gives tremendous experience when it doesn’t.  This is the main reason for testing yourself with these levels of competition.

This type of post goes hand in hand with the NBA Finals I just watched.  Aside from LeBron, no one on the Cavs wants to step up and be that player.  It’s an incredibly stressful situation and even these professionals want no part of huge pressure situations.  Big players make big shots and they get paid well for doing so.  This should never be forgotten when you ask how good a player is.  Big Shot Bob.  John Paxton.  Steve Kerr.

Hicham El Guerrouj -1 Mile World Record 3:43:13

hichamelguerroujfastestmile

So fast he’s a blur

Hicham El Guerrouj’s mile time is a world record that has held strong for almost 16 years. There have been 5 men who have been in the 3:46 club and 1 who has run 3:44. HOWEVER, the top 2 mile times to ever be recorded happened in the same race below, both in the 3:43 range. My question, and reason for posting this, is there anyway this World Record would have been set without the 2 men pushing each other to times that haven’t been touched, well, ever since?  Competition at its finest.

Fastest Mile Times in Chart Form

Does the mile still matter?
So, the big question… Is the mile still relevant today?

Nick Willis: “It is still relevant, particularly in North America, Australia and New Zealand. It is important for the casual fan because people understand a sub-four minute mile. A 3:38 1500m doesn’t mean anything to most people. I still believe the mile should be used as a means to reach to the masses.

“The biggest challenge [to the mile’s status] is that mile times are not recognised as qualification times for the 1500m at major championships, even though translated times for 1500m to the mile are very accurate.”

Will Leer: “Absolutely. People in a crowd can connect with a mile more than they can with the 1500m. Everyone in America had the same experience as me. They all ran it in gym class. The mile has an ability to connect with the people who aren’t as intricately woven into our world as we are.”

John Walker: “It is still relevant, because there are so few top mile races in the world. There are only about three top mile races, so it is very special and in countries like England and New Zealand, it is still very important.”

The Take on Sports in 2015

Fact: 1961 Gallup poll showed 34% of Americans named baseball their favorite sport, football 21%. In 1968 football passes baseball in popularity.

Fiction: 2015 TC poll showed 38% of Americans named football their favorite sport, basketball 30%, baseball 15%, hockey, 5%. soccer 5%, UFC/Boxing 2%, other 5%.

Looking at sports in 2015

Do kids still love MJ? Or is it all Lebron, KD, and Steph?

Do kids still love MJ? Or is it all Lebron, KD, and Steph?

Basketball – All you need to practice and play is a ball and a hoop to shoot at which makes the game easily accessible.  Another huge plus is that youths have a great set of role models to look up to in Lebron, KD, Westbrook, Harden, and Steph.   These top guys are unreal on the court and give young kids a major ceiling to aim for.  Basketball is extremely popular in urban environments due to lack of space, many people can play at one time, and simplicity of the game.  When viewing the game as a whole, it’s constant excitement, a great source of exercise, and requires a high skill level to succeed.

Bart Starr - Winner of Superbowl I

Bart Starr – Winner of Superbowl I

Football – It’s a game that breaks down into two segments: playing in a league or playing for fun every once in a while.  Not every kid can afford league fees and pads which limits participation.  Injury is also a high probability when playing. However, football is by far the most exciting game on the planet right now. The skill that the top athletes possess is mind boggling when watching athletes like JJ Watt, Odell Beckham, and Gronkowski. The game is fast as lightning and rewarding for making big plays.  The game is so popular with the advent of fantasy football that there is no sport that holds the same excitement level right now.

** FILE ** Retired Yankees slugger Babe Ruth warms up with three bats before stepping to the plate at New York's Yankee Stadium, in an August 21, 1942 photo. He was 40, with a pot belly that couldn't be supported by his spindly legs and a growing realization his career was over. His batting average hovered nearly 200 points below his career mark, and his pitchers were unhappy with his inability to run down even the easiest of fly balls.

The Babe was 40, with a pot belly that couldn’t be supported by his spindly legs and a growing realization his career was over.

Baseball – A game that is on the decline. A WSJ article reports that baseball lost 3.5 million youth participants over the course of the last 15 years. The lack of likability stems from a game that has been tarnished with steroid use and is lacking an excitement factor. Back in the 50’s, society was blown away by microwaves. With less to do back then, more people were paying attention and the environment would get electric which just upped the games prestige. Today with other options, the slower paced game with spurts of physical movement has taken a backseat to more energy. The other downside of the game is that you need 9 people to play on a team which limits how you can practice.

Pele is considered the world's greatest soccer player.

Pele is considered the world’s greatest soccer player.

Soccer – Consider there were 800,000 youth participants in 1980 in USA. Today that number is at 3 million and has been holding steady for the last 15 years. Soccer, or futbol, is the world’s game. A cheap form of entertainment that demands a high skill set due to the difficult nature of controlling a ball with your feet. Speed is a major factor as well which makes fitness an integral part. A ball and a 2 goals are the only equipment needed and scrimmages can occur with any amount of players. Professional games tend to lack the pizzazz of football and basketball but the crowd loves the patience and strategy required to score goals. The fan base deserves a salute to their level of dedication for their home team.

Hockey player Borje Salming took a blade to the face during a game and it took nearly 200 stiches to put his face back together.

Hockey player Borje Salming took a blade to the face during a game and it took nearly 200 stiches to put his face back together.

Hockey – Even writing about it seems pointless because I know virtually nothing about it. I’d presume that the cost to play is high and unless you can afford skates, pads, and rink time, you aren’t playing. A fast paced game that seems incredibly difficult when trying to control a puck that flies 100mph while you’re moving at top speed on ice skates. The fighting has an allure to it but also comes off as mostly pointless and barbaric.

Royce Gracie - The winner of UFC1

Royce Gracie – The winner of UFC1

UFC / Boxing – No real cost to practice because all you have to do is pick fights off the street.  In reality, once you can afford gym time and have access to a training facility, you can develop yourself into a lean, mean, fighting machine. The advantages to winning every fight holds a degree of importance in the ring but I find the opportunities to use these skills in the real world sparse. Top fighters are becoming bona fide stars and making money to blow.  The biggest downside is that you are constantly getting punched in the head.

Why You Should Love Sports

With no understanding if people watch Youtube videos from my blog (can’t at work, too small on a phone), I bring you some memorable moments of sports.

Larry Merchant Post-Fight Interview with Floyd Mayweather
I don’t know how you win a fight in this manner but Larry Merchant is wonderful in this interview. Larry’s like, “I’m not leaving this interview without Floyd admitting it’s a cheap shot.”

Reggie Miller Fights Michael Jordan
Can someone please comment about MJ’s sick block! Such weak punches though.

Nolan Ryan Headlocks Robin Ventura
I like how Ventura isn’t sure if he’s going to charge, decides it’s a good idea, then instantly realizes it was a bad idea when Nolan moves forward instead of backward.

1985 Superbowl Shuffle
The degree of seriousness that was taken when making this is what makes this clip. #4 dancing at 2:31 is a white person dancing.

Ron Artest Elbows James Harden
What a ridiculous move. I wasn’t sure to go with this one or the brawl.

Kelly Kulick Wins Mens PBA Tournament of Champions
The only female winner of a Male bowling championship. Nice Chris Barnes.

Blame Deflategate on Brady

bradyYahoo! has a good article on deflategate.  The report targets 3 people:

“Based on the evidence, we also have concluded that it is more probable than not that Tom Brady was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities of [Jim] McNally and [John] Jastremski involving the release of air from Patriots game balls,” the report said.

Belicheck and Kraft are out of the loop and it is all coming down on these 3 individuals.  WHEW!!!!  Kraft can make comments that no hard evidence was found and it’s futile to fight the league but talk about a relief.  Your untouchable QB is being targeted and 2 expendable equipment personnel.  10/10.

originalPunishments haven’t been handed out yet but what’s the worst that can happen?  Brady gets a 2 game suspension and the Pats start the season 0-2?  Is the league really going to suspend the star QB for the entire season?  I don’t see that happening.

I also suspect that after reviewing the report Brady was 100% aware of what was being done.  Read this:

Deflated-NFL-FootballMcNally took the game balls into a bathroom before the AFC championship game, locked the door and remained in there for approximately one minute and 40 seconds. He apparently took the game balls in a breach of standard pregame procedure, the report said. Referee Walt Anderson said it was “the first time in Anderson’s nineteen years as an NFL official that he could not locate the game balls at the start of a game,” according to the report.

19 YEARS as an official!  They did it.  They freaking did.  What are the chances that all of their balls were deflated compared to 0 of the Colts balls?  Brady even had text correspondence saying that he was upset with the air pressure in the balls during a previous game.  He’s aware of the issue and knows the type of football that gives him the better chance to win.   Win / Win for the Pats here.  Slimy bastards though.

American Odyssey Relay 2015

Anyone can run for time, it takes a runner to finish. – CK4

There is a link on the top of my web page that reads American Odyssey Relay where I’ve reviewed my past experiences so I’m not going to go over what it is again (200 mile relay from Gettysburg to DC) and just get right into it.

American Odyssey Relay

Shady Maple

What a 250 yard buffet looks like.

Our van of Sam, Nikkii, CK4, Eric, Bill, Scott, and myself left around 4pm to head to Shady Maple which is a smorgasbord of food, buffet style.    It’s funny in my mind when Chad came back with a plate of all meat and Sam called him a carnivore / T-rex but without any picture it is just left to the imagination.

We got to the check-in at Gettysburg where initial race packets and intro messages were being distributed.  Nikkii thankfully manned up and listened to instructions while we drank beer..  We picked her up after and checked into the hotel.  All 34? of us got together in a meeting room and listened to Nathan conduct a preliminary meeting of when the teams were starting and where we should go.  Ready to rock.

First Set of Legs

Get with the program Dave.

Get with the program Dave.

I was our Leg 1 which means I start the race.  From past experience, I knew that it sucks to have to use a porta-potty to shit during the relay.  To work around this I woke up and drank 3 cups of coffee.  I executed effectively and was good to go for my run.  I genuinely felt great and was hoping this would carry over for my run.

What a transition looks like.

What a transition looks like. It didn’t feel as weird as this picture looks.

My first leg was 6 miles through Gettysburg and I completed it with no problems.  I handed off to Krista, who had never done the relay before, and was feeling good.  We met Krista at the 2 mile mark of her 6 mile run and we had the brilliant idea that we needed beer.  I didn’t like the idea of leaving a runner but I also knew that there was not a better opportunity to get beer.  We headed backwards to the distributor, picked up the beer, then raced back to meet our runner.  We arrived with minutes to spare and Jackie was next to run leg 3.

The most famous covered bridge in Pa. George Washington built it.

The most famous covered bridge in Pa. George Washington built it.  Maybe.

Jackie successfully (I’m not sure what word she’d use) completed her leg 3 while we watched Steven stand over a hole in the ground keeping runners from stepping in it.  The picture to the right was taken which was the members in our van and a covered bridge.  It’s also noted the Holly completed her leg (and the next 2) with a busted ankle so she didn’t pull a “Chad”.  More on this later.

Breathtaking

Breathtaking. Actually it’s pretty boring. I took it.

Sam was the next runner and was on a mission to make Dave his bitch.  That was a joke but Sam went rip-roaring through a hard 8+ miles to hand off to our #1 runner Ck4.  This is probably not the exact time it happened but I must add that Chad tried to close the van door and ended up slamming it right on his forehead.  He looked back at us trying to play it off but the imprint of his head on the glass was clear. Smooth.

Those shorts are "runner certified"

Those shorts are “runner certified”

The always optimistic CK4 finished his first leg of 4+ miles no problem.  His running attire consisted of extra long bball shorts, my 5 year old running shoes, and a cotton “sweat absorbing” long sleeve shirt.  His finish was celebrated with some church hot dogs and preparation for Nikkii doing the hardest leg on the course of 7+ miles and 1,000 ft incline.  It’s not for the weak.

Nikkii Leg 6

Leg 6 complete.

Nikkii completed the hard leg and was rewarded with a pint glass.  At this point we had some hours to kill before our next set of legs started.  We drove to Waynesboro to eat at Waynesburger.  There was sign for “free parking” but we decided to fill the pointless meter with 50 cents to be safe.  I ate a chicken Caesar wrap that was actually pretty good.  We then drove over to the next transition point where Sam and I lamented the fact that we didn’t have a frisbee.

Second Set of Legs

Majestic Sunset

Majestic Sunset

I got into my night running gear even though it was pretty light out.  Patti followed a runner the wrong way but still ran a solid leg before handing me the baton.  I’ve known in past years that the second leg has the potential to be blazing fast.  I started slow knowing that there was a confusing turn but got through to the 4 mile straight away no problem.  While running up the hill I passed a woman and made a comment that the sky was beautiful.  She said, “and look at those windows.”  I was like, “uhhhhh, yeah, great windows.”  She said, “you know, getting to see this every night…” and I awkwardly passed her.

I felt fast on my run and truly enjoyed myself.  At this point it was nighttime and Krista was scared of the dark.  Her comments were that she saw some blue blinking lights (the road sign pointing her which way to go) and thought they were possums which displays her mental state that any noise or sight was going to attack her.  None the less, she completed her leg with no issues and handed off to Jackie.

Not the right leg but everyone on my team gets a pic on the blog. You're welcome, Jackie.

Not the right leg but everyone on my team gets a pic on the blog. You’re welcome, Jackie.

I was feeling pretty freaking good at this point and was drinking some silver bullets.  At one point during Jackie’s run Sam parked us Jurassic Park style while I encouraged runners who were passing by in the pitch dark.  As I asked Jackie how she was doing she replied that, “this hill sucked a dick.”  AOR brings out the truth.  Even with the inclines she pushed through the tough leg and finished with only a few choice words.

This was a picture of the sunrise.

This was a picture of the sunrise.

The next set of 3 legs was Sam, Chad, and Nikki running out and backs by Boonsboro.  There is really not much to say because not much happened.  I ate a $3 piece of shitty pizza while CK4 ate some Sloppy Joes.  Sam tried to get some sleep in the gym while I tried to get some shut eye outside on the asphalt.  A few others slept in the van but I don’t think I slept for more than 45 minutes.  Sam popped in the van at 1:30 am and we drove off to Shepardsville, WV.

Aside from CK4 using some expert negotiations, a wiley 360 spin move, and some chatter to get a van to move out of our van’s way so we could leave, not much happened.  I ate a $1 bagel from the boy scouts which I paid $3 dollars for because I’m a nice guy and got ready to run my 3rd leg.

3rd Set of Legs

This was taken with a high speed / slow motion camera.

This was taken with a high speed / slow motion camera.

My 3rd leg was 8.6 miles and straight along the Potomac.  It was 3am and pitch dark.  This leg sucked.  I probably passed 15 runners which kept things moderately interesting but it was me and my head lamp for 59 minutes.  I handed off to Krista who had the same run for 6 miles and agreed it was equally bad.  This is where the relay started to get interesting.

Jackie was hurting from her last leg and was put in the spot of running when she would have loved to find a feather bed to sleep in.  She gutted through her leg and had a mini-meltdown where she was “never running again.”  Sam was next and finished his leg as Stortz’s do.  Now the fun begins.

Clouds are exciting.

Clouds are exciting.

With 16 of our 18 legs done we sent Nikkii on an 8 mile trek.  Major props to Nikkii for completing leg 6 but this leg was more than she could chew.  This was supposed to be the hardest leg for the #5 runner (CK4) who managed to switch with Nikkii.  With Nikkii on her run. our van was presented with the situation where one of runners was not wanting to run his 8 miles.  We talked it over and tried to divvy up his miles but the skin under my nuts was chafing so bad that I was in no shape to run and others were not exactly enthusiastic to take on more (Krista and Sam did volunteer).  We had to drive 20 minutes away to pick up Nathan who was going to help Chad run his miles.

In the end we let Chad leave 30 minutes before Nikkii finished and picked him up an hour later by switching him with Nathan.  It wouldn’t be a story unless a big, brown, barking dog didn’t attack Chad as he was running his leg.  If we could all lead such adventurous lives.

Finishing AOR

Real life tired.

Real life tired.

We handed off to the second team at around 9:30 AM on Saturday and Van 1 headed back to the Wharf area.  We weren’t able to check in to the hotel so we got some breakfast and pondered giving the hotel clerk a stunner.  I have to add that watching our crew cross the streets with only 15 seconds on cross walk intervals was hilarious.  At around 12:30 pm they let us into a room and we showered up and headed to the Wharf to watch our team finish.

Van 1 at the Wharf after finishing the relay

Van 1 at the Wharf after finishing the relay

We found parking with some of my nifty driving and smuggled some Coors lights into the party area.  I got a hot tip from Krista’s grandma and put $50 bucks on American Pharoh in the Derby who ended up winning me $140.  The Wharf had the beer situation handled this year and was overall a fun time with AWESOME weather.  Nathan’s interview with the AOR video crew was great as he never repeated her question as instructed.  I especially liked when Krista told the camera that her leg was horrible.  Cut.

We went back to the hotel and congregated while some people went home and others met up for dinner.  We spent the dinner making jokes at Chad’s expense and I realized that I was unbelievably tired.  At 9:30pm I fell asleep which negated the point of staying over in DC for the night.

Medals.

Medals.

I awoke at 7 am and we left shortly after.  After I caught a huge buzz off of a Starbucks coffee while driving I was an instant chatter box with millions of thoughts racing through my head.  The CK4 navigational aid app was tops.  We said goodbye to Chad and Nikkii, dropped the van off at Enterprise (Sam tarded out and left his door key), and I went on a 7 mile run to wrap up marathon distance in one single weekend.

This is truly a unique experience where you spend 30 hours in a van with 5 other people and run.  I remember someone asking me what they liked about AOR and I had difficulty answering.  I’ve since learned the answer to that question.  I love the running.  I love seeing the sunsets and sunrises and meeting new people and just enjoying the experience.  It only comes once a year and that’s probably enough, but I like doing it.

Also a big thank you to Nathan Relles for the hours of planning involved to run a successful relay.
