Why current pop music is not good

By |2011-07-27T08:30:36-04:00July 27th, 2011|Music|2 Comments

I sometimes point out how today’s pop music isn’t very good and I want to give a reasonable explanation at why. Let’s take a song that’s been extremely popular recently, “Give me Everything” by Pitbull and Ne-yo , and dissect what’s wrong with it. One line in particular by Pitbull is awful “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan.” Using a Lindsay Lohan reference should immediately tarnish your song. Yes, he is using her most well known character trait of being constantly jailed, but I just couldn’t sit down and write a lyric like that and think I’m creating an amazing piece of work. Another obscure lyric in the song is “Gettin’ money like Seacrest.” He’s #44 on Forbes Celebrity power list making 51 million dollars this year. I’m not going to argue he isn’t making money but seriously? It’s Ryan fucking Seacrest and he’s getting references in the most played song out right now. It just shows the lyrics have nothing to do with the popularity. My thoughts are people probably like the lyrics and how dumbed down an “witty” they are. If it sounds good and people are hypnotized by it, it’s a winner.

I’m creating a new paragraph to give the real reason why today’s pop music sucks and it far surpasses the boneheaded lyrics. People like today’s music because songs can have a hook that is catchy which lures them in and this is easy for current record producers to create. The real reason these songs suck is because anyone in the industry can come up with “Give me Everything.” If you substitute Chris Brown for Ne-Yo and Flo-Rida for Pitbull, they can make the same song. Try substituting the Beatles for any Bruce Springsteen song. Or The Rolling Stones for Led Zeppelin. It’s just not the same. The best bands have their own identities and play their own music. Song’s today are just factory churned pieces of garbage. I’m also not saying everything being created today is terrible. I heard an interview with Lady Gaga on Howard Stern and she was amazing singing and playing the piano. Plus, she explained the lyrics to her songs and they actually have meaning. Being talented, having your own identity and creating lyrics with meaning = good music. So consider this when you hear a song and think it’s good because if it’s only the hook that makes it good, it’s not.

The wealth gap between Whites and minorities grows

By |2011-07-26T23:34:27-04:00July 26th, 2011|My Life|0 Comments

I like to think that this blog can sometimes be used as an educating tool with useful information so that you can feel smarter during your existence on Earth. From time to time, I do present some astonishing information that I come across in my life that most likely you’d never see. I feel like I get readers who are Sam’s friends in the young 20 range, my friends in the 25-28 range and some older lurkers who stumble upon my blog through Facebook or random Google searchers. With that demographic reading my blog, I’m curious how many of you have ever even thought about this chart below.

This should be jaw dropping for some and hopefully enlightening. First thing that should amaze you is the absurd headline they use, “The net worth of whites declined less percentage wise than for Blacks or Hispanics during the recession.” The chart says that white households, on average, now have almost 20x as much wealth as blacks and 15x more than Hispanics, up from about 11x and 7x respectively before the recession. Yes, I think that is an amazing headline, however, isn’t the real story the discrepancy in net worth? I’ve seriously been living in fantasy land. It’s common knowledge that the white race founded the country and have been leading America for hundreds of years to obtain wealth. Due to slavery and such, it’s fairly obvious African Americans had a huge mountain to climb getting started accumulating wealth. Hispanics assimilated into this nation over time and wouldn’t have the same opportunities as Whites. This range though is nothing I would have imagined. If I made a poll to guess these numbers I bet people out there would be absolutely clueless. I guess I’ve felt that the nation has progressed quicker in terms of equal opportunity. I don’t “feel” this chart. These numbers have to be put in front of my face (and now all of yours) to get a better understanding of financial terms amongst our society.

I do want everyone to know that these numbers are all going to be irrelevant August 2nd. Our divided White House won’t be able to come to an agreement. The US credit rating will be cut, our dollar will become worthless and everyone’s net worth will be equal at 0. Load up on the canned food and find shelter because there is going to be chaos. If you don’t read the paper, and this chart means nothing to you, you most likely live a carefree life immune from fiscal responsibility. Money doesn’t matter to you, you find happiness in love and the world keeps on turning. I envy that but reality tends to strike the unbeknownst first. At least you read my blog so I can give a piece of the tiny clue I have.

What’s the poll show?

By |2016-11-01T23:38:03-04:00July 25th, 2011|My Brain|0 Comments

The poll shows two common things in today’s society. #1, people are click happy. #2, people are happy to give their opinion knowing nothing about the subject. What’s even more amusing is that the 4 people who clicked on a “hole in one” probably have no idea what an albatross even is. Now technically this question is pretty bogus anyway because it’s not specific enough to really have a good answer. A hole in one can still happen on a par 4 which would be pretty impressive, if not more impressive than an albatross. This could be one shot traveling 300+ yards and going in. An albatross is a 2 on a par 5 which is certainly rarer than a hole in one as it requires two good shots instead of one lucky one. No real point to pointing this out except I find it humorous how people respond.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Depeche Mode recently. I posted one of my favorite songs from them which I believe is worth a listen. Depeche Mode is the most successful electronic band ever selling over 100 million albums throughout their career. Just figured I’d point this out to enrich people’s lives musically.

Cargo Shorts, so 97′

By |2011-07-25T09:39:30-04:00July 25th, 2011|My Life|2 Comments

“Nobody’s gotten a hand job in cargo shorts since (viet)nam” – Seth (Jonah Hill) in Superbad

To this day I still wear cargo shorts. Hell, I’m actually wearing a pair right now as I type this. I’d guess 10-15 years ago when I started doing my own shopping, I thought you were a geek if you didn’t wear cargo shorts. It took me until the 6th grade to even wear a pair of jeans and I promise you I wasn’t comfortable. With my ultimate fashion wisdom, it has come to my attention that cargo shorts are out. Most people are probably well aware of this trend but I was late to the party. Does this mean that if you wear cargo shorts you are immediately black listed and put in the uncool club? Probably not because I don’t think what you wear should determine how cool you are. However, I will make the observation that I don’t think I’ve ever actually used the cargo pockets that make cargo shorts cargo shorts. Maybe the idea of having extra pockets to carry around all the extra accessory items people have is thrilling but aside from maybe a golf ball or two, it’s never come up for me. I suppose I also find regular Dockers to look a little more professional. Cargo’s look like you are ready to go on a camping trip. Considering I still own a few cargo’s I don’t think I’ll be tossing them out, rather phasing them into pants that I don’t care if I ruin them. Basically, I have clothes that I don’t care if I get dirty and clothes I try to keep nice.

Star Wars Trilogy

By |2016-11-01T23:36:14-04:00July 25th, 2011|Movies|0 Comments

I wanted to give my opinion on the first 3 Star Wars movies (episodes 4,5, and 6). I’ve always felt Star Wars is one of those movies that you should just have to watch just so you understand when people make references to it. For years I’ve seen bits and pieces but I don’t think I ever sat down and actually watched it from start to finish. Now I can say I’ve done that. I haven’t done any research about how critics felt about these movies but I think that’s better anyhow. My thoughts will be my thoughts.

I thought the first one was decent, Empire Strikes Back was the best of the 3 and the Return of the Jedi was just a little too dressed up for my liking. I thought the first one was sort of slow and not much really happened. I already wrote that blowing up the death star should have set back the empire financially and probably crippled their future plans. The trash compactor scene was really dumb because they were being chased and they jumped down the chute, how would the storm troopers not know where to look? How was ObiWan moving around the death star so easily, it’s like a city and there are people everywhere who should be noticing him dressed as a Jedi. I know these are small things but stuff like that bothers me.

I really liked The Empire Strikes back. The beginning part was sort of hokey but the movie has to be somewhere. The Yoda training was what it was. When he struck Vader in the forest part, that didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. It was pretty risky of Luke to jump down that hole that led to nowhere to escape Vader. I thought the Han Solo, Leia, Lando plot line was OK and it’s nice to see the good guy not always win. Aside from the strange ending with Luke hanging on and being scooped up after they should have been being chased, it was pretty entertaining.

I thought the Return of the Jedi was pretty dumb actually. How does Jabba move around? People seem to fear him a little much considering he doesn’t really have much mobility. How on Earth did Leia have the power to strangle him? I thought Luke was way to powerful to be played by Mark Hamill. Something just felt wrong with that. The Ewoks seemed a little to weak to be battling the empire. The emperor, Vader and Luke was also just sort of strange I thought. Not may favorite Star Wars.

So that’s it. Now I can say I have my own opinions on Star Wars movies. To be alive on this planet, seems like something you should have general knowledge of.

Jay Cutler is a complete douche

By |2011-07-25T00:05:03-04:00July 25th, 2011|Sports|0 Comments

Look at this guy in this picture and tell me his not an asshole? Now if Jay Cutler were in this room with me now would I be telling him he’s a douche? No. He’d kick my ass and he might even be a really nice guy. Am I saying he’s a douche for calling of the wedding? Nope, because she’s probably a nightmare and he realized that putting up with her for the rest of his life was something he didn’t want. However, this picture just inspires this post. I can’t look at this guy and think he’s a nice guy. He’s is the poster boy for the term douche bag. I don’t even like Kristen Cavallari and haven’t seen one thing she’s ever done but I know she probably has terrible taste in men. This poor girl was probably so excited for this wedding. I’m sure she doesn’t need to work and probably spent tons of hours planning and this guy says no thanks. Sweet little cutie is probably crying in her room day and night but my guess is she’s probably better off.

Just to make this post a little more interesting. He is an average QB. He’s 34-34 as a starter. He completes 60% of his passes and has 104 TD’s to 79 picks. That’s a 1.35 TD to pick ratio. Brady has a 2.53 lifetime TD/INT ratio. Also Brady in 2010 was sacked 25 times compared to Cutlers 52. Is it fair to compare him to Brady? Obviously not, but still the guy is just average and should get an attitude check. Do I have any base to call Jay Cutler a douchebag? No it’s just my viewpoint and has no merit. Take it accordingly but he will never play on my fantasy team.

The social assassin

By |2016-11-01T23:36:30-04:00July 24th, 2011|Tv|0 Comments

I’m going to tie some current events in my life with HBO’s Sunday night line up. I’ll start by saying that True Blood is pretty wacky and this hasn’t been one of the better seasons so far. The Arlene/baby storyline is dumb. Lafayette and his boyfriend bore me. Tara sucks. Jason’s panther thing is far out and Jessica and Hoyt thing is just weird at this point. The Merlotte’s are moderately amusing. The Sookie/Eric thing is OK and I will say I’m really looking forward to Bill finding Eric with Sookie.

I thought Curb was hilarious. Easily the best episode of the season. Funkhauser and the yamaka was hilarious. I thought When Jeff said the pillow looked like a cat and they were concocting evil plans was really funny. The social assassin thing had me cracking up because I feel like I’ve become one myself. It’s just extremely difficult to please everyone because everyone looks at things differently. People base their viewpoints on “facts” that are apparent to them and that can be seen differently by someone else. Truth is very unique in the sense that there can be a number of different truths. What I am learning though is it’s just better to just shut up and only worry about yourself. Interfering with people just isn’t worth it. Letting people believe in their own “truth” and going along with it is far superior than making a fuss about it.

I thought Entourage was decent too. People expect the world from that show and are always disappointed. I found this season opener to be very realistic. I thought the way that the group was handling Vince’s situation is probably very common to people coming out of rehab. They try to shelter him from any vice and in turn just make things “weird”. The Ari/Mrs. Ari is another common real life situation that I think is neat to watch how they show Ari taking it. I also found it unbelievable that Perrey Reeves character doesn’t even have a name other than Mrs. Ari. I think people just want this show to make them orgasm with every episode. Even though it’s a short season, I’ll still happily watch this show and not freak out when the episode is only decent. I hate Scott’s character by the way.

Golf

By |2011-07-27T19:04:17-04:00July 24th, 2011|Sports|0 Comments

I played 53 holes of golf in the past 2 days. Ck4 and I played Pinecrest on Friday and Raven’s Claw on Saturday. Nobody was on the course and we just kept playing. I shot a 92 at Raven’s Claw through 18 and another 45 on the second 9. I was high 90’s at Pinecrest. One interesting thing was that it takes me about 20+ holes to make a birdie. We played from the blues both days and that makes Pinecrest significantly more challenging. It was pretty hot but fun.

The blog has been getting a lot of random traffic from the Kate Upton Video and the hot pole vaulter. Google really works in mysterious ways. I haven’t been updating much but than again, I haven’t really been doing much. This is really just a post just to post. I watched Young Guns which is an 80’s western with Kiefer, Emilio, Charlie Sheen and even Lou Diamond Phipps, about the tale of Billy the Kid. It was decent. I have nothing else to write.

Afterwards

By |2016-11-03T15:31:33-04:00July 20th, 2011|Running|1 Comment

Phil’s 5k was tonight. I probably placed about 20th of 700. I ran a 17:45 which should equate to 5:50 miles or so. I felt pretty good throughout the entire race but I’m just not in good enough shape to run a formidable time. If you look at the top 100 time for the race, I’d say about 10 are over the age of 26. The bottom line is that I’m not getting faster. I did out sprint a female in the last 50 meters to say that I wasn’t beat by a girl which should give me some credibility. A 5k goes by fast compared to longer races and I will admit that’s about as good as I can do.

After the race I decided to go to the bar. I had one shot of rumplemintz and about 6 beers. It messed me up pretty good considering I didn’t eat dinner. I ate a roast beef sandwich at Kildare’s but I was pretty much spent after beer number 6. Don’t forget these beers are pints and they are at least 5% abv. I was/am pretty drunk as I’m typing this but I figured people appreciate posts in different forms. I’m listening to Jim Croce by the way. Songs in order Operator, Time in a Bottle, I got a name.
