I Hate Shopping For Logos

Nikki Minaj ClothesI was playing golf this weekend and had an hour to kill before the tee time. I was in Pottstown and went to the outlets which aren’t exactly “outlets” because of their pricing but have a lot of big name stores like Nike, Polo, and Calvin Klein. I was specifically looking for non-khaki or black pants and running nylon pants. I also would have bought a new collared golf shirt if it caught my eye. The thing was, I hated everything. I’d walk into a store and walk out within 1 minute because I disliked everything they were selling. This wouldn’t be blog worthy if I didn’t share the same experience with 95% of the stores.

My problem with the apparel these stores are peddling is that they blast their name all over the product. Under Armour had pants that had the words Under Armour all up the side of the leg in size 150 font. I’m not wearing that. First of all, it’s uncomfortable because it differs from the regular fabric. Second, it looks ridiculous. All I want are my clothes to look plain and normal. My favorite shirt is a an all blue collared shirt that says Calvin Klein hidden behind the neck and no where else on it. I suppose these stores put their logos on their clothes so other people can identify who makes the clothes, but there is a cost to this.

nogo-logo-5A good idea for a company is to be Nogo and have no logo. Everything is plain and I think people would respond to this. No human wants to be known as a walking billboard. Towards the end of my shopping experience I was shaking my head at virtually ever article I came into contact with. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Dunkin Donuts Owes Me 5%

Too much cream cheese in the middle.

Too much cream cheese in the middle.

This picture shows the issue that I have on a daily basis with the Dunkin Donut’s bagels.  Notice the glob of cream cheese in the middle and all of the excess cream cheese on the wrapper.  This is how much is left after I’ve already tried to wipe it off.  It  is impossible to eat properly unless I only want to eat globs of cream cheese.  What are my options?

1) Use my fingers to push the cream cheese out.  This is messy and unsanitary.

2) Eat around the mess in the middle.  Not practical.

3) Throw it out.

As you can guess, I usually throw it out.  This happens to me every single time I get a bagel from Dunkin.  The meal that I get medium coffee, glazed donut, and 1 bagel costs $4.83.  Every day about 15 cents of that goes to waste.  This is not fair.   I also like my bagel toasted much more than they do but that’s another story.  Where’s my check?

Dinosaurs Are Always a Good Laugh

By |2014-04-10T12:58:29-04:00April 10th, 2014|Boobs|3 Comments

Dinosaur references are not used enough to make jokes. I rarely hear the mighty Pterodactyl mentioned. Or what about the Stegosaurus? Land Before Time jokes referencing Little Foot need to be brought back into common vernacular. Denver the last dinosaur was my favorite TV show.  Who doesn’t laugh at this scene?

And this one:

There’s nothing wrong with replying to pornstar’s and telling them you want to be T-Rex. Normal behavior.

Mickelson Pays a Debt at the Masters

By |2014-04-09T08:43:14-04:00April 9th, 2014|Sports|1 Comment

Amen-Corner-Golden-Bell-24x36The Masters are in full swing with the event starting this Thursday. If you’ve been living under a rock, Tiger has withdrawn for back issues and that takes some of the luster out of it.  Either way, its a prestigious event that delivers some awesome golf for 4 days.

I came across this great story with Phil Mickelson being challenged by a fan during one of his practice rounds.  Phil overhit his tee shot on the 6th hole and was in the rough when the fan was “mouthing off that it was a ‘hard shot, get this up-and-down, no chance, blah, blah, blah'”.  Phil bet the guy 1 dollar that he could get up and down. He ended up chipping on and missing the putt and paying the man his dollar.

It’s nice to see someone pay up when they lose. Obviously Phil has millions of dollars and this bet isn’t about the money, but too often people make bets, lose, and then not pay up. All payment on bets should be made on the spot. If you run your mouth, you pay up when you lose. Any time payment isn’t made right away, the bet gets forgotten about.

Shocked-FaceAlso long term bets need to be written down because payment tends to be forgotten. 2 of these come to mind. I bet the Shee $100 dollars that Tiger Woods was going to stay with his wife for 2 years after the whole whore ordeal went down. I lost and ended up paying $66 of the $100 dollars in green’s fees. After writing this post, I rightfully owe Shee $34 dollars. The other bet was when Jeff bet that Andrew Bynum wouldn’t play another another game as a Sixer or something along those lines. As you can tell, I can’t even remember the bet so I’m sure whoever lost never paid.

This story reminds everyone that debts need to be paid or else all integrity is lost.

Smart Thinking

By |2014-04-07T20:30:31-04:00April 7th, 2014|My Brain, Tv|1 Comment

main-qimg-8083c297a49398f61deef7deebbf6d17What makes people smart?  Back in grade school, the smart kids were the ones who memorized the material the best.  In college, they were the ones who took on extra activities and made the most of their time in procuring a job.  When school gets finished, the smart ones are the ones who produce the best ideas.  I’ve always been fond of this quote, “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.”  With 7 billion people on this planet, a lot of ideas are produced an only a miniscule amount of them are any good.  So what makes a good idea?

Good ideas makes people think.  Sam wrote this tweet:

This is smart thinking because it’s a play on words. The bed could act as a casket and also a nice place to sleep. When your brain has to produce thoughts to understand what is happening, that is good. Smart people like having to think to understand something.

Another example is a song lyric that says “I feel so alone when I’m without you.”  This is a normal feeling that when you are not with someone, you feel alone.  Now change the word without to with, “I feel so alone when I’m with you.”  Now this lyric has developed into something deeper and requiring more thought.  This lyric says more about a relationship that isn’t working out and the person feels alone even when they are together.  The contradicting nature of being alone when you are together makes for a thoughtful phrase.

Girl in the back is the hottest girl in the show

Girl in the back is the hottest girl in the show

The same logic applies to why people get so hung up on Game of Thrones. The writing makes it so that there is nothing obvious. Anyone can be killed off and all plot lines twist and turn. This makes people ponder what is going to happen next and this creates a big buzz.  True Detective, Twin Peaks, and all of the other best series have this same feeling. Everyone was guessing what was going to happen. This is a huge metric when deciding whether something is considered “good”. It’s why I know Twilight is bad. The more thought that something provides, the better it is.

So how is this concept applied to the real world? I’ve found that most people don’t like to think.  The majority of people are happy living their life and being told what to do. Thinking isn’t something that seems important.  For me this blog is my thinking.  It’s my outlet to what goes on through my mind and I like sharing it with others.  I don’t even consider myself all that smart.  I’m just a guy who has learned how to put his ideas into WordPress.  Out of the box thinking is crucial because the limits to this world are unknown.  Anything can happen and the mind is a powerful tool.

tomb7

6. What are the physical traits of the guard limited to?
For a person to apply for guard duty at the tomb, he must be between 5′ 10′ and 6′ 2′ tall and his waist size cannot exceed 30.

They must commit 2 years of life to guard the tomb, live in a barracks under the tomb, and cannot drink any alcohol on or off duty for the rest of their lives. They cannot swear in public for the rest of their lives and cannot disgrace the uniform or the tomb in any way..

After two years, the guard is given a wreath pin that is worn on their lapel signifying they served as guard of the tomb. There are only 400 presently worn. The guard must obey these rules for the rest of their lives or give up the wreath pin.

The shoes are specially made with very thick soles to keep the heat and cold from their feet. There are metal heel plates that extend to the top of the shoe in order to make the loud click as they come to a halt.

There are no wrinkles, folds or lint on the uniform.. Guards dress for duty in front of a full-length mirror.

The first six months of duty a guard cannot talk to anyone nor watch TV. All off duty time is spent studying the 175 notable people laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery .. A guard must memorize who they are and where they are interred. Among the notables are:

President Taft, Joe Lewis {the boxer}, Medal of Honor winner Audie L. Murphy, the most decorated soldier of WWII and of Hollywood fame.

Every guard spends five hours a day getting his uniforms ready for guard duty.

In 2003 as Hurricane Isabelle was approaching Washington, DC, our US Senate/House took 2 days off with anticipation of the storm.. On the ABC evening news, it was reported that because of the dangers from the hurricane, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment. They respectfully declined the offer, “No way, Sir!” Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a service person. The tomb has been patrolled continuously,
24/7, since 1930.
