The Best Post I’ve Ever Made

man-crying-e1375385140592I know this is going to sound crazy but the post about the 6 hottest celebs is the best post I’ve ever made.  Sure it’s NSFW and filled with pictures of hot female celebrities but in terms of work put into the post and how it turned out, it hit the mark.  Every single file name was titled appropriately.  I made every title of each picture fit what was happening in the picture.  I even made a caption for each picture. The gallery’s worked out well and the Gifs at the bottom were good close outs.  Each celebrity was relevant and hot and I picked pictures that have to be in their best ever taken.  All that being said, what did the post produce?

STG_YOUR_BLOG_SUCKSI made a wall post on the Katy Perry’s Rack Facebook page and left a link on Maxim’s Twitter.  The amount of FB shares on the page is 5 which is well above the normal 0.  My Broad St post brought in 38 shares for a benchmark.  With this minimal effort, the page did not bring in more than usual traffic.  This is the life of a blogger.  The satisfaction from additional traffic doesn’t correlate to how good the post is.  It’s bittersweet because I know internally that the site is improving and producing solid content.  Other people are not benefiting though which is where I’m at a standstill.  I’m not the type of guy who is going to make self improving bullshit to actually help people.  I’m going to create posts that when you come to the page you are entertained for a brief moment.  That’s it.

With this being said, I want to bring back the poll to get an idea of how many people actually read this site.  I’m not threatening that I’ll never post again unless I get a certain amount of people, that’s childish.  I want to understand how many human beings read these posts.  All you have to do is click the poll.  I’m hoping for more than 10 and max out at a star shooting 50.  38 people is the max any one of my polls has ever gotten.

Jeremy Lin Deleted Tweet

I laughed at this.  This doesn’t seem real though because Jeremy’s top tweet doesn’t have the check mark and the second reply does.

I never knew what to think about Chandler Parsons, but displaying this type of humor immediately puts him high on my list if he did write this.  The fact that I like him and he’s white, does that make me racist?  If you watch Silicon Valley you’d get this more than you already don’t.

6 “So Hot Right Now” Female Celebs

The female celeb game is constantly changing.  Relevancy is a huge part of whether a celeb is hot right now and it’s almost impossible to always stay popular.  That’s why I’ve scoured the net to find the 6 celebrities who has Mugatu astutely puts it is, “so hot right now.”  You can click on the gallery pics for an enhanced view.

6. Christina Hendricks – I know that a woman is hot when I don’t watch, or have even seen, the show and I’m aware of her existence. Her breasts are amazing. They could be the 2 best boobs on the planet (I’d actually vote for Lucy Pinder). Either way, her red hair makes her unique and the fact that her boobs are as big as her head just inflate her ranking.

5 . Emma Watson – I’m always torn on Emma Watson. In some pictures she looks so bland that I’m not sure what people see in her. Then I see her in some of these pictures and she is kind of hypnotizing. She was pretty good in This is the End and I see how she steals the show on the big screen (I’ve never watched a Harry Potter). She wins the entire nerd class and is their queen.  She will be huge for years to come.

4. Selena Gomez – I’m not a huge Selena fan but she’s a natural beauty. With the Disney background and attachment to Bieber, she is held up on a pedestal for being hot and mediocre. I see her looks fading over time but in the present day, she would probably win in terms of best looking overall.  That face / body combo is just killer.

3. Mckayla Maroney – Just turned 18 and is a dual threat with a gold medal in the vault and the All-American beauty look. She’s still a child and acts pretty much like a child from what I can tell from her social media. The fact that she is constantly blowing up her instagrams with haymakers (give Pres the credit) on a regular basis makes me wonder how she puts up with the comments these pictures generate.  To be the best in the world at something and have these looks, it isn’t fair.

2. Kaley Cuoco – She is on one of the top shows and all eyes are on her. Big Bang added a few hot chicks to try to steal the spotlight and Kaley still shines through. She’s branched off into commercials and I’m sure we’ll see her in more movies in the near future. Her look is beautiful and her body is slamming. It’s a shame she recently got married.

1. Katy Perry – My number 1 and the web’s clear #1. She is the total package. Her music is consistently topping the charts, she is selling out concerts, she does charitable work, and is idolized by millions of kids. Her 2 weapons are always armed and she utilizes them perfectly. She is on top right now and a clear cut winner. It’s lonely at the top.

My Sports Card Collection is Worth Pennies

Sports Cards Were Not Investments

1986 Fleer Michael Jordan Rookie Card

1986 Fleer Michael Jordan Rookie Card

As a young child I loved sports cards, specifically basketball.  I had more cards than I had space in the house.  One of my best memories would be when JC would go to the 7-11 and buy me packs of cards from the 1986 Fleer basketball set.  Aside from this being one of the more valuable sets of all time, there was a stick of rock hard gum that came with every pack that I looked forward to.  I also used to memorize tons of info about players.  Who else would know that Mark West’s birthday was 1 day away from mine?  Nance and I also thought John Bagley had the best name in the league.

As I progressed more into card collecting I’d make sure I purchased Beckett which would provide some idea of valuation for these cards.   At the time players like MJ and Magic cards would actually be worth money.  By today’s standards, these cards didn’t appreciate into anything worth talking about which is disappointing because card collecting was frickin’ awesome.

The most valuable sports card of all time – 2.8 million

I remember stories of my dad being a card collector and how his parents threw out all of his cards.  I think this happened to me except it happened gradually over time and I was OK with it.  I’m sure there were some valuable cards that were trashed because I specifically remember having almost every card of the 1986 Fleer set.  Remember though that I was 4-5 years old collecting these and even if I did have them they were likely to have pen or a full crease through them.  I also collected Magic cards which are worth even less than basketball cards.  Here are a few cards that actually remained as part of my collection.

You’d think this card would hold some value but it didn’t.

1972 Topps – Oscar Robertson

I card I bought from a dealer.  Great player but too late in his career to be worth anything.  Incredible stats though.

1986 Fleer – James Worthy

My last card from the aforementioned 1986-87 Fleer set.  I’m a bit confused on why this set produced MJ’s rookie card because his draft year was 84′.  Either way, other rookie stars included Hakeem and Barkley not to mention studs like Ewing, Magic, Bird, and Isiah.  I wish I would have kept better care of these cards.

$30 to $130

$30 to $130 in near mint.  Mine isn’t.

1991 Skybox – Michael Jordan

One of my favorite sets.  It’s bizarre they used the same picture as the 86′ card above.  I thought the backgrounds were awesome as a kid.

1991 Donruss – Randy Johnson

I didn’t collect much baseball but stumbled upon a young Randy Johnson.  “Cause I bumped into him and all I had on me was this samurai sword… And you’re not gonna not get Randy Johnson’s autograph, Right?”

1992 Score – Sammy Sosa

I never knew Sammy was on the Sox is why I included this card.

My personal favorite because of the striking resemblance to Bill Schmidt in his playing days.

Blanking in the Universe

blankman201994Blanking pretty good here.  You could call me Blankman.  J5, J5.  You know you are getting old when you start referencing bad 90’s movies and know that not only are people born after me not going to get it, but also people born in my generation aren’t going to get it because it’s too obscure.  You start accumulating useless knowledge that doesn’t just go back a few years but starts becoming decades.  It’s fun in one sense because it gives you more material to reference, but you start having less people to share it with.

the_hitchhiker_s_guide_to_the_galaxy_wallpaper_by_cainag-d66ny8aSo where’s that leave me?  I’m reading the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and it’s a fun read.  I like entertaining ideas that the universe is so vast and Earth isn’t even relevant.  We walk around assuming our lives are important and it’s laughable.  We aren’t even specs.  It would be glorious to be considered a spec.  That’s why it’s best to do like Pharrell says and just clap your hands if you feel that happiness is the truth.  I listened to Pharrell’s interview on Howard Stern and he was a pretty smart, down to Earth guy.

Earth keeps spinning and this blog keeps getting written.  I have a few future plans which will improve the writing and may even introduce a new theme.  You’ll notice in the post below that I got 35 Facebook shares which is pretty huge for me.  I posted it on the Broad St Run Facebook page and got some response.  At least someone is reading something I do.  It’s funny to think that I maintain this blog hoping for recognition but don’t want it if it actually comes.  I honestly just do it because it’s a challenge and it would be great to get people to read things I write.  It would be a small victory on a big planet.

Not much content currently but I needed a filler until tomorrow.

Sub 60 Minute Broad Street Run

Nathan Relles and Tom StortzLet me start this post with a big thank you to Nathan Relles who transferred his bib to me and without this kind gesture, you wouldn’t have this blog post.  Thanks Nathan.

A quick thought about me not getting selected to the lottery for the Broad Street Run…it’s absurd.  Complete system failure.  Before the race today I saw men who haven’t seen their penis in ages.  There has to be some restriction to this race (like being able to see your penis).  10 miles isn’t a 5k, not everyone can do it properly.  That aside, onward to the race.

I wrote about how I was feeling before the Broad St Run in this post if you don’t keep up with the blog.  I got an average night’s sleep with Alex calling me at 12:30am after I feel asleep at 11:30pm asking where Sam was.  This wasn’t a big deal except that I had actually fallen asleep and not only did that wake me up but Jeff and company were listening to music which also made sleep challenging.  Either way, my alarm went off at 5am and I sprung to action.  I dropped a deuce, brushed my teeth, showered, and tied my running shoes tight.  I ate one Granola bar and was feeling light on my feet.

bcbsrunI drove and parked in the Wells Fargo Center at around 6am and caught a subway before the lines got crazy.  It’s about a half hour to the starting line so I had a while to kill before the 8:30 start.  I hung around and did some light stretching.  I dropped the kids off at the pool a second time and also was urinating like crazy.  I wasn’t sure if this was a good or bad sign but and didn’t want to cake my pants.  I was herded into the corral and sat through 15 minutes of talking before the race was about to start.

IMG_1431The timer went off and I was using a watch for the first time ever.  I have no problem getting out and fell into a comfortable pace.  My thoughts at this point are that I want to finish the race without caking my pants.  Essentially, put up a respectable time and don’t embarrass yourself.

Through 5 miles I was still feeling good and people weren’t picking me off and I was actually gaining on some people ahead of me which is a great sign.  I was exactly a minute (29:00) under 60 minute pace at the 5 mile which pretty much assured that I was going to finish OK.  Considering the fact I still felt good, I was in high hopes.  I got to 7 miles which is what I wrote in the last entry was my do or die point with regards to time.  Amazingly I didn’t exactly do either and stayed at 6 minute pace.  I had virtually no kick and finished at 59:08 which I’m pretty happy with but it was about 30 seconds slower than last year.  My splits were 5:49, 5:45, 5:50, 5:50, 5:43, 6:03, 5:56, 6:00, 6:03. 6:03.  Without being a track expert, you can see that I lost touch at the 6 mile mark and I can’t really remember what happened because I didn’t feel lousy.

Overall I lived up to my own expectations and actually felt very good throughout.  I needed a few more longer runs during training if I was going to improve upon last year which is seemingly my peak.  I lacked finishing speed but my preparation was excellent as I felt like a million bucks throughout the race .  Overall though I had a good time and I’m glad I did it once again.  I hope everyone else who did the run and reads this post enjoys it too.

Pre-Broad Street Run Feeling

BroadStreetRunThis weekend leading up to the Broad St Run has been difficult.  Normally I’m guzzling down beers with the everybody else but this weekend I stayed completely sober.  The difficulty lied in the fact there was so much going on this weekend that it was nearly impossible not to have a good time.  I strategically planned out a settled weekend and stuck to my gameplan.

I slept in Upper Dublin on Friday night because I was playing in a Golf Tournament that was using a Stableford scoring system.  What Golf Tournament you may ask?  I spent 50 bucks to join an association that plays at Center Square which I was made aware of by Sam Levin.  I woke up early on Saturday and had breakfast with my mom before I went over to the course.  I had an awful round just a week ago so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I hit a few balls and felt OK but certainly wasn’t impressive.  I stepped up to the first tee and felt a bit of nerves for some unbeknownst reason.  I eyed up the ball and took my back swing just thinking that I hope I made contact.  My downswing brought about a huge topper that went 50 yards and I was off.

18262The round went well and I finished with an 85 from the whites at Center Square which sounds better than it really is.  I was all over the place and finished just out of the money with a +18 in the stableford scoring.  They factor in my 16 handicap and you get -2 for D bogey, -1 for a bogey, +1 for a par, +2 for a birdie, and +4 for D birdie.  I actually birdied a hole which translated to a double and is why my score was so good.  +21 won it.

After golf I returned home and took a nap while my friends and siblings were drinking.  I woke up, ate some pizza, and then hung around with more people.  It is somewhat odd not drinking because I have no difficulty interacting with people and probably do a better job to the point that I have no reason to ever drink.  Sure it’s not as fun, but it’s good to talk to people sober just so I remember how to do it.  At 10:43 currently, everyone has gone out for the night and I’m sitting at my computer blogging.

My goal tomorrow is sub-60 minutes.  I’m pretty confident I’m in sub 60 shape but I haven’t gotten the long runs in I would have liked to.  This means that I will be under pace at 7 miles and either I’ll have it or I won’t.  I feel pretty good though with no major injuries.  I tried to do everything right leading up to the race and if all goes well, hopefully I beat last years time of 58:45.  We will see.  Well I’m going to polish the bed post before I go to bed.  Just kidding, you never change the oil pre race.  It’s like losing power.

Why Google’s Algorithm is Valuable

Why is Google’s Algorithm the Best?

google11We all know Google is valuable because it brings desired information to you in an accurate, concise format.  In barely a second, a simple search produces matches that are closely correlated to what you would like information on.  The power of this is incredible.  It’s shame that we have to put a dollar value on this service because it is invaluable.  No other search engine has been able to be as great as Google.  What are the others missing?  Easy answer, the Google Algorithm.

google-algorithm-changesHow does Google know where to send people when they search?  They have an algorithm that grades content, consistency, reliability, and traffic.  This algorithm then ranks the pages and when you search for something, it produces the best results in top to bottom order.  I recently used Yahoo and my searches had me scratching my head enough that I don’t know why I’d ever stray from Google.  The algorithm is a bit of a mystery because if it was so easy to produce, other company’s would do so.  What’s the secret to getting posted on Google’s top page?

content-is-king1A good, boilerplate answer is content.  Content is king and the idea that Google brings traffic to the better websites is without a doubt correct.  However, this answer misses a mark because it is too general.  My answer is TRAFFIC draws more traffic.

The obvious thought is that you can’t produce traffic without good content.  The thing is that Google doesn’t care about how good you think it thinks the page is.  Google cares about how many other people view the page and whether they think it’s good.  People drive more people.

Google-Algorithm-pie-chartI’ve wrote over 1,000 posts and some get traffic and some whiff.  The ones that draw are usually about a figure that is celebrity status.  People search for Katy Perry or Madison Ivy.  My blog benefits from revealing photos of the aforementioned sources.  The problem is that unless you have two bazookas, no posts get recognized from rnningfool.com.  What does that show?  It shows that pages get recognized by Google if they are being looked at by a lot of people.  Once they reach a certain point, Google classifies them in a higher category.  If they keep getting views, they reach the next level.  Google processes this info and continues this process for every website and decides which pages to show when people search.  Therefore, it’s not content is king, it’s EXCELLENT content is the lord.

I’d really appreciate comments on this because I think people have thoughts on this subject matter.

Why Video Games are Always Second Rate to Life

This is going to be an off the wall explanation but something that I wish I had grasped earlier in life.  I was browsing Reddit and saw this pic:

Video Game Boredom

3 heavys started building a tower, rest of the server decided to join.

The second I saw this picture I immediately knew that I was wasting my time. The split second. I spent a lot of my youth playing video games and have absolutely nothing to show for it. The games are fun and entertaining but also a carnivore of time. Who cares how many frags you have? Or if you you’ve never heard of pwned.nl (I’d advise you to quit at 80%). I even remember getting stuck on levels or checkpoints during single player or have to try to finish the game because it didn’t save. I did the entire gaming ordeal for a while and I haven’t seriously played video games in many years.   Video games are fun but do not add to life skills.

If I could have learned a language or spent more time on a single thing more valuable to life, I’d be better off than playing video games. I will never hate on video games, but I know that Real Life is more important. Pictures of real life events will always win over video games 99% of the time.  Getting lost in a video game is a good way to not participate in life.  Sad but true.

future-video-gamesfuture-video-game-systemsthe-used-game-conundrum-better-by-you-e9kmg90rThis era though will be the first of mankind to experience video games. Think about it, Romans and Greeks could barely wipe their ass and now we are controlling virtual people and living vicariously through virtual characters. This is the first generation to experience video games. In 2100, they will look back at our shitty 8 bit Mario and be like “what fucking idiots”. Hopefully they will read this post and say that at least some people realized it at the time.
