Primetime

By |2013-03-15T17:32:47-04:00November 21st, 2010|Sports|0 Comments

The semi-finals of the football playoffs were this week. It was a perfect day for football and the other team has team shirts and football gloves and we show up in plain white t’s looking haggard from a night of drinking. The entire game was all offense as the defenses seem to get abused. Bake was nearly perfect in the first half scoring on every single drive. Gusto was making good catches in the middle of the field. Ck4 caught a long ball where the other team just forgot to play defense. Gayle had 3 Td’s on the game which was pretty impressive. Jess Baker got in the end zone and had a nice 2 point conversion pass that Gusto dropped. Even I got in the end zone, take that Kelly. I think we were up a TD at halftime and then tempers started to flare on an extremely unorthodox play. Ck4 was returning a punt and laid down the boom on a female. He was going full speed and just completely ran over a 100 pound female. I was on the other side of the field so I couldn’t hear the comments going down but next thing I saw their players gathering around Chad and Jkash who was obviously looking to rumble. After that skirmish they lost their composure and started yelling at each other. Bake continued pouring it on and we ended up winning by 2 TD’s. It was a pretty competitive game and we played about the best we have all season. The championship game is on Dec 4th so it will be a colder game most likely. We celebrated the victory at the Bayou for the 2nd straight week and continued the tradition of a couple of carbombs. Solid performance by the team and I’m looking forward to the championship.

Blog Posts

By |2016-11-01T23:53:08-04:00November 19th, 2010|My Life|0 Comments

It’s hard to find time for blog posts during days like the ones I’m having. Ck4 and I stayed til close at Mad River and the mornings just aren’t that much fun. On normal nights I can usually spend a half hour at night writing a decent entry. Yesterday I got back from work and went to sleep from 5 to 7:30 and then showered, ate food and went to Mad River. From 9-11 there are dollar beers and I probably had about 8 of them and then swapped to double rum and cokes because I was able to persuade the bartender to sell me them for 5 bucks instead of 10. I was dancing with this one girl who was decent but even in my state of mind I put her in the too drunk category. The crowd was pretty decent for a Thursday night. Ck4 told me that it’s unacceptable to dance with fat chicks and he’d give me the ear pull anytime that was the case. I think that I’m probably one of the weekly league leaders for alcohol consumed and still going to work which must be something to brag about. Life has been pretty normal though aside from it passing by at a rapid pace. I’m sorry this is another poor post but I’m in no condition to write good entries.

Kildare’s Wednesday

By |2016-10-28T15:55:47-04:00November 18th, 2010|My Life|0 Comments

CK4 and I went to Kildares at 5:30 for some drinks. They had a lot of good beer on tap and I obviously had to sample them all. I ended up getting pretty bombed by nights end. CK4 was talking to these two chicks about nonsense and I was doing the same with some other random girl. It was pretty fun honestly but I’m paying for it today. I think I probably had about 10 pints on a Wednesday night which equaled drunk. The bartender Jake finds us amusing as we were pitching him ideas on how to make Kildare’s better. No meaning of the post other than something is better than nothing.

Childhood TV

By |2013-03-15T03:42:29-04:00November 16th, 2010|Childhood|3 Comments

Like the Styx song, I have too much time on my hands. This is a rare double entry and I’ve immediately followed my last one with another childhood theme. I was skipping around the TV Guide and watched the last 5 minutes of Dancing with the Stars to see Bristol Palin advance past Brandy. Bristol is a dog but I would vote off anybody whose partner spells his name Maks. This is literally one of the first times I’ve tuned into Dancing but there is all this hoopla about Bristol that I figured I’d see what was up. Nothing special in my eyes. The show that is. To leave this irrelevant topic and move onto something more worthwhile, I wanted to make a list of my favorite TV shows as a kid. I was born in 83′ so any younger audience may have no clue what I’m talking about. I’m going to start with the shows I remember when I was really young and then move on through time. I’m not going to mention the most popular ones that I obviously watched to death like Full House, Saved By the Bell, and the Simpsons.

Perfect Strangers was a show that stuck in my head as a show I probably had no idea what was happening but found it entertaining. Larry and Balki were the main characters and I just remember liking Balki. Apparently Harriet and Carl were characters in Perfect Strangers and Family Matters was a spin off of this show. I honestly couldn’t tell you one thing about an episode.

I used to find Small Wonder so fascinating. Jamie was such a little bitch and Vicki was a robot. I look back and wonder how I was so entertained. I remember running back from school to catch reruns of this show.  Maybe the plot was good.

Beavis and Butthead was such a stupid show but I thought it was the funniest. The music clips were obviously annoying but I used to get a kick out of the mini-stories. Nance used to find this show hilarious too and I’m surprised she used to let me stay up and watch it. Whenever they would argue or hurt each other I would crack up. Their laughs and slow talking also did me in. I found this show to be awesome.

Nance and I used to watch this show every Thursday Night. I remember them as Williams and Torres and it’s funny because LaGuerta was in the show too who is now in Dexter. I used to look forward to this show so much and I’m sure if I watched it now I’d think, mediocre. I read the Wikipedia on it and apparently it was a big draw on Thursdays amongst the Black community.

TGIF growing up was a big thing. I can’t remember the order exactly but some shows were Family Matters and Step By Step. I used to love Al growing up on Step by Step and hate Dana. I think they also used to have Boy Meet’s world as part of that line up. A quick sidenote, I remember Laura used to get all these Teen mags and the covers would be filled with JTT, Devon Sawa, Rider Strong, and Zachary Ty Bryan.  I also used to watch Home Improvment w/ Binford Tools.

It’s annoying to find pictures and then put them in and then space it so I’m just going to write about a few more. Different World goes way back but Dwayne Wayne was easily my favorite character in the 80’s growing up. I used to have like Blossom and obviously thought it was hysterical when Joey said “Whoa.” Mark Cooper from Hangin with Mr. Cooper was a big role model. Not to forget Marlon from the Wayans Brothers on WB. 7th Heaven was also on the WB and I’m sure I watched my share of that. Unhappily Ever After with Senator Edge and the always bangin Nikki Cox was one of my faves. Larisa Olyenik from Alex Mack was a huge crush of mine pre spank days. I used to watch the X-Files and was pretty much got hooked on the show. I also watched my fair share of Kevin Arnold and the Wonder years. Winny writes math books.

Memory Lane

By |2010-11-16T23:09:45-05:00November 16th, 2010|My Brain, My Life|1 Comment

I thought a good idea for a post would be to venture back into my younger years and write about some things that have stuck in my memory. Some will be personal details that only I can relate to and other some general events that everyone can.

When I was probably in pre-school my mom and some other mom who had a kid my age would go to Murray’s for breakfast. I just looked it up and it’s a Jewish deli in Bala Cynwyd. I had no idea it was so close to where I am now but maybe I’ll venture there for old times sakes. Anyway, I remember my favorite part about going to Murray’s was the chocolate milk and french toast. Me and this other kid would take straws and blow bubbles in the chocolate milk until it reached the top and overflowed. Our parents had to be thinking, how dumb are these idiot kids that they can be entertained an entire meal by chocolate milk. I grew up loving french toast but I would hate syrup on it, only butter. The other kid loved to douse his french toast in as much syrup as he could find until it became a liquid mess. To this day I still prefer butter on my french toast and pancakes but can now stomach syrup. I also used to love when my mom made cinnamon toast which is just a combo of toast, butter, and cinnamon. Tiger’s love pepper, they hate cinnamon.

Another tale of my youth was that one of my best friends growing up was a kid names Ricky Brown. Not shockingly Ricky Brown was black but as a youth, it’s like everyone is the same. He had these badass teenage ninja turtle shoes which had the faces of each one of the turtles on the shoe. JC used to buy me all the hip bball shoes and I had the Jordan’s growing up. Ricky used to dominate me in one on one bball and that was back when I was a skillful little TC. As a kid, skin color doesn’t make a difference but as you get older you realize the adult world perceives things differently. Only funny story I have about him is that we took him to the public pool one day and at such a young age he didn’t know that black people don’t know how to swim. So he leaps into the deep end and sinks like a rock. Fortunately the life guards saved him but it’s a story I don’t forget and a stereotype unless proven otherwise, sticks in my mind. *I just googled black people don’t like the water and I read something that says water makes their hair poof and is a hassle to fix.

I could write a huge paragraph on the next subject but Bud Schmidt and I used to play a lot of Nintendo as kids. Once we decided to split up every team in Tecmo Super Bowl and then play out the entire 16 weeks. I can’t remember exactly how it finished but that was a dedicated effort. Some games that come to my mind that we used to love were the Super Mario’s, Dragon Warrior, Mike Tyson’s Punchout, RC Pro AM, Final Fantasy, Blades of Steel, Arch Rivals, Baseball Stars, Tecmo Super Bowl, Marble Madness, and Battletoads. The particulars of some of these games as I think back are cracking me up. The amount of time we spent on some of these games and not beating them is laughable. We must have wandered around in Ultima for hours on end to never get anywhere. Games back then would always have passwords that were super annoying to use. The hardware would reset at inopportune times like clockwork. When I think back to holding reset and turning the power off I have to chuckle. Lots of my even younger youth was spent playing these games.

Just some really random thoughts that I will throw in to this post. Playing Bud 1v1 in bball on his neighbors court and rarely losing. When we’d play football and Bud would think his dad was purposely throwing picks to me so I would win. CK4 remembers our intramural play Temple when we’d have two scrubs stand on the block and he’d run off of a double pick for a jumper. My mom’s shitty ass station wagon that had a back seat facing the oncoming traffic that was such a joy to sit in. Challenge’s at the mall would have the best birthday parties (sadly arcades are on the decline). Ecto Cooler, Little Hugs, and Sipps at lunch. I had a friendship bracelet fad where I used to wear them all up and down my arm. Snap bracelets were just as fun. I can’t forget how I used to get a buzz cut and then get two lines in the side of my head. Hersey Hawkins used to have 3. In 5th grade Matt Poley and I wondered how the guy didn’t crush the girl when they were having sex. Rob Kluxen told me that you put your thumb and index finger in a circle and move it over your dick and that was jerking off. JC and I used to watch all the Sixers games on Prism (Can anyone confirm this was channel 17? on cable). Our undefeated Travel baseball team where we won the league 3 straight years and had an unbeaten streak of 35 games or so. The amount of time and money I wasted on Red Zone and Magic cards.

Everyone has their own childhood memories and mine have a certain bond to me which you probably don’t find as entertaining as your own. This blog is a good way to document my early years and when I look back at this entry, I can remember these moments at my elder age of 27. Funny to think how long in the future I’m going to maintain this blog and the amount of material I’ve already accumulated in it. I can’t imagine doing this forever. Posts like this almost bring a tear to my eye knowing that you can’t go back to relive anything that has occurred. If I was given another shot at it I probably wouldn’t have done anything differently. I had parents who loved me, loyal friends, and I was given every opportunity and the freedom to do as I please. Hard to imagine that it was already 20 years ago that some of these memories took place. As a kid you have no idea who you are going to grow up to be.

It’s great to remember the past but the present and the future is what you have to work with. These days I like fantasy football and proving to my friends that I’m better than them (2010 only). I like watching movies that are considered good and then finding reasons why I don’t like them. I like the ability to do whatever I want, whenever I want without anyone giving me a hard time. This last sentence came about after watching the season finale of Weeds and thinking how cool it was for Shane, Silas, and Andy to hang together in Europe basically living life. Some other things I know are how to run a profitable business by myself through years of learning from my dad. I’ve kept myself in better physical shape than 90+% of Americans. At 27 you have different ways of amusing yourself then when you were 10. Yes I drink way too much and I’ve paid the price in certain circumstances. I’m not perfect but I can still find joys in life and I’m happy every day above ground (except when I’m hungover). I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe you can reflect on your childhood days and have them bring a smile to your face.

Ambler BBall

By |2016-10-28T15:55:35-04:00November 15th, 2010|My Life|1 Comment

We only brought 5 for the game and knew the opposing team wasn’t that great. We opened the game with the lead and never looked back. We were up 15 or so at halftime, they cut it to 8 with some poor defense by us and some lucky shooting but we never let it get closer than that and won by 17. Evan was a sharp shooter out there hitting shots from all over. We just move the ball around like a basketball team and get better shots. They weren’t hitting great tonight but it didn’t matter. We move to 7-1 and will take the 1 seed into the playoffs.

I have an idea for the weekend that is going to shock the world. I’m considering not drinking on Friday night so I will feel normal for the playoff football game. It would be a double header if we win the first game at 11 and the 2nd game would be for the championship. I generally don’t take these things that seriously but I find football to be a bit more competitive than softball. I think it’s just because it’s a better game. Taking a night off from drinking is sort of taboo but I may consider doing something lame instead of getting smashed.

Pre Bball Entry

By |2010-11-15T18:29:50-05:00November 15th, 2010|My Brain|0 Comments

Someone left a Jagermeister shirt in my room and I’m going to claim it and wear it unless someone tells me its theirs. It’s a pretty nice shirt and I feel like I come in contact with a lot of free t-shirts that I start to lose track of ones that are mine and other peoples. At this point of my life, my wardrobe has become pretty sizable that I only have to add a few items here or there over time. I’ve noticed the life span on boxers is about 2 years and then the elastic starts to give. On any article of clothing when the elastic starts to give, it’s time to throw it out. Also shirts with holes in bad spots should be thrown out as well.

Lately I’ve been acquiring some females phone numbers and it’s a bit unusual for me to store phone numbers. What I mean is that I usually never have a phone longer than a year or so, so I’m just constantly re-getting phone numbers with no real purpose because I’m just going to lose them again. I’m certainly not exclaiming how good I am at getting phone numbers because most likely they are just going to sit in my phone unused. These two points I just made go together though because the more people you know, the more text messages get sent. I get 500 texts a month and then they are 10 cents additional after that. With the amount of contacts I have it’s almost impossible for me to send out 500 texts. But now that I’ve had my phone for a while and have more people to contact, I’ve had months where I’m running close. Now you get 160 characters in each text message. My mom has found a fascination with texting and loves texting me one letter K’s for understanding the past message. So she is wasting one full text message for one letter and potentially a dime out of my bank account. I would feel like a complete chick if I had get a bigger text messaging plan. I’ve wrote before though that I have no problem with texting because I feel no rush to answer and it gives me time to think about what the person wrote. I don’t get it either because I get unlimited MMS. Why is an MMS cheaper than an SMS?

Bball tonight at 8:30 and naturally it occurs right with the Eagles game. To boot we only have 5 guys. I might head to the bar after with the boozehound Baker to watch the game. He found the idea of walking into Gavins completely sweaty after a game a non issue and I just decided to go along even though I’m not entirely comfortable like that. Monday night miracles.

Weekend Roundup

By |2010-11-15T09:52:19-05:00November 15th, 2010|My Life, Sports|0 Comments

Saturday morning Primetime had it’s football playoff game. We were the 2 seed and up against the 7 seed. Bake started the game by throwing a pick but was solid after the initial drive. We went into halftime up by 13 I think. This was the team that beat us pretty badly the first time we played them but our defense has improved since then switching from man to zone. Nevertheless they stalled a late 2nd half drive by us and they were down by 8 points and had to go the length of the field with two minutes or so. Naturally they move the ball on us and throw a TD to some chick who was seemingly out of the end zone. It wouldn’t have mattered much though if we could stop their two point conversion. Of course they find a guy wide open in the end zone and next thing we know, it’s sudden death overtime. Our D held strong on their attempt and we got a chance to win it. Bake found the Shee in the end zone to seal the game in a close one. Some highlights… Ck4 caught a bomb early on, Gusto had a nice pick early, Gayle who is more athletic than some of our guys is an offensive weapon. Well played overall and next week will start the 2nd round. Also for the first time this year we had some people go to the bar after the game for some celebratory drinks.

I don’t really have much of interest from the weekend. I got a random # in my phone from Friday night and ended up calling it on Saturday morning at 10 to see what it was. Some girl picks up and we have this hilarious morning conversation where I’m asking how did I meet you and then it was just awkward so I hung up. I texted her my name and to facebook me but nothing came from it. I pretty much just hold my breath in this situation because 2 am girls #’s for me can be ugly. I also had an interesting phone call on Sat morning when a friend told me to bet on Tennessee because of a tip he heard. So I put 200 for him and 200 for myself and watched Tenn cream Ole Miss. I ended up losing the money on PSU and the NFL so this certainly isn’t bragging. I survived both nights successfully and got back to my winning ways in fantasy. As long as Jeremy Maclin goes for less than 20 points, I will have had another 4-0 week which would be 3 in the past 4 weeks. Special thanks to Sam for playing Michael Bush on a bye instead of Kevin Walter or Marshawn Lynch, both of whom would have got you a W. By the way, I believe we are having a vote to get you removed from the league.

Lurker Call Out

By |2010-11-15T11:03:32-05:00November 12th, 2010|My Brain, My Life|2 Comments

Every once in a while I stumble across an amazing idea and this is my best of the year. It’s been a slow year for great ideas. We can label this as a way of me giving back to my readers. I’m going to go through the network list of the people who visit my blog and then give my opinion of the person. Everyone gets to form their own opinions about me and now I’m getting the chance to give mine on them. What I did was range the timeline since my blogs inception and it breaks down the visits from each network. I’ll start with the most avid fans and work my way down. Remember I don’t know exactly who is coming from the network but I can do my best to guess. If I’m wrong feel free to correct me. Blog start date was May 2nd, 2009.

  • With the pole position and 573 visits, hailing from JP Morgan Chase, the SHEE. Shockingly my harshest critic is also my most loyal viewer. Always quick to point out how my brothers blog is better and how bad my efforts are. Shee has been all over the blog lately and has become a fan favorite amongst viewers. Now that I’m aware of how big of a super fan he is, we should probably start hanging out more. Did we just become best friends? YEP!
  • 274 visits from the Broadart Company. I’m not 100% positive but I believe this is Hafer’s friend Matt Stackhouse. Stackhouse and I have only met in person a handful of times but it’s apparent that he knows a good thing when he sees one. Thumbs up for the loyalty. I’m sure you probably know me way better than I know you. If you are ever in the area and want to play on our basketball rec teams, we could really use the size.
  • Temple University is next on the list. I only know Paige Mooney who goes to Temple and I think it’s safe to assume that Paige probably could care less about my blog and I think it would be Weller reading up on her computer. Weller was nice enough to buy me a bottle of Grey Goose for my birthday and it’s good to know somebody cares about my enthusiasm for getting wasted. Weller also takes me out to rounds at Talamore for golf and finds me way more interesting then I really am. Weller – I still can’t sign off on that life insurance policy, hahaha.
  • University of Pittsburgh comes next. Considering I don’t have any friends there anymore I guess this is probably Nicole, Jeff’s gf. I’ve taken a shine to Nicole. It wasn’t that I ever disliked her but I find her pretty entertaining, she doesn’t annoy me, and she’s good at catchphrase. She can get wasted with the rest of us and I generally enjoy her company. Nice work Jeff.
  • PNC bank has to the be the one and only Gerald Rama. This is a real shot in the dark but I don’t know anyone else who would work there that would read my blog. Gerald and I go back to the glory days of college. He and I are the remaining members of the haggard crew. Gerald is easy going and a likeable person. It’s fun to get him charged up over stupid stuff like being better than him at beer pong or how good the Steelers are. I was happy to hear his days of a Mage are over.
  • George Mason University is obviously Jill. Jill’s way down on the list but you can be certain she’s a superfan, the visits just aren’t tallied due to her moving. She spends her time endlessly doing school work to get her PHD to land a cushy job teaching. It’s funny how you can get a PHD and think that California to New York is 600,000 miles away. She’s going to hate me for writing that but she’ll get over it. I can honestly say that she’s never been anything but nice to me and even accompanied me to the ER when I broke my face which was not a pretty sight. She’s another one who finds me more interesting than I really am.
  • Univ. of Louisville is Big Steve. Always a good friend, even the time he spilled a glass of wine on top of my head when we were in this big crowd. He acted like he didn’t do it even saying things like “I can’t believe someone would do that.” Weeks later he spilled the beans to me which was a pretty hilarious thing to do. Steve’s studying to be a doctor much to my surprise. I write much to my surprise because he partied with the best of them. 336 Atwood (its something close to that) was the college party house to be at and Big Steve’s name was always associated with it. Steve probably thinks he can drink more beers than I could but until that’s put to the test, I know I’d win. I did win the case race in college by a large margin and that’s back when I was a rookie. If you ever need someone to boo opposing teams fans, Steve’s your man.

That’s about all the relevant networks that pop up. Anyone want to let me know who Cox Communications is? I know there are some people out there who read this blog more than some people mentioned but your network isn’t distinguishable. We know Hafer’s a superfan. He wrote earlier how he’s taken credit for the blogs rise to the top with his avid marketing. CK4 reads this shit. He probably goes to the page hits Ctrl+F, searches for CK4 and if nothing pops up, closes the page. JKash reads this and just uses my material as means for my drinking problem and the need for an intervention. I’m sure Sam reads most entries and I bet my Mom lurks without her wanting me to find out. Let’s not forget Huck from FL who sees too much of his younger days in this blog. Jess Baker eats my material up as well.

If I didn’t mention you and you visit this blog on the reg, it’s safe to say that you will continue to view from the shadows. I had a fun time with this entry and I know that most people probably have no interest in the people who surround me, but I found it entertaining. It’s now time to wrap this up. I have to catch some shut eye from a late night last night and get ready to do it all again.

I’m writing this after I already wrote this entry. JKash importantly pointed out that no entry can be good unless I include him so I’ll give you a nice blurb. Another one who is quick to point out that I’m not good at things. It’s his go to phrase anytime I do something stupid. Jkash used to come out with us trolling for booty but now he has a hot piece of ass that he spends all his time with. Let’s not forget how he conveniently got injured during the basketball season before he paid his league fees. He is still probably leading the league in fouls committed without even playing the last two games. He’s the antithesis of CK4 in the sense that he gets things done. We spent a good amount of time together when he was layed off and wanted to get hammered every night. Sort of makes me sad to think that when he had nothing better to do, he hung out with me. Finally, Jkash knows more NBA player jerseys than anyone I know. Teva’s doing well too…
