Bball & Driving

Chalk up another victory for the Ambler Y Bball team. There is no one else to thank other than Matt Baker for this victory. He came to play and probably scored about 30 of our 48 points. The other team consisted of some guys from Wissahickon who we’ve played a few times before. Neither team really had a center and we could really use some height because our offense lived and died on the 3 ball but fortunately Bake drained about 7 or so, I honestly lost count. It was a pretty good game actually and had some tense moments towards the end. Only one ref showed and he had a tendency to blow the whistle after the foul was committed and he liked to make calls from opposite ends of the gym. Ck4 started to give him some lip with a few seconds to play and he told Chad to stop crying and then he made some irrational point how we weren’t getting the calls because we were only shooting jumpers but that had nothing to do with the hacks that were occurring in the end game. Bottom line is we won 48-47 in a tough win but if we have to rely on that hot shooting every game, no offense to Bake, but he shot the lights out.

It’s already 1am now and I woke up at 7 so I’m about ready to call it a night. Things have been pretty tame for me recently but I’ve been having this crazy feeling when I’m driving that I’m either going to hit someone or someone is going to hit me. Now I pride myself on my first rate driving ability but I just see maniac after maniac, day after day, pulling stupid shit that it’s just bound to happen. When it was summer time, the roads were much less crowded but now with school back in session, people are just everywhere. I’m not trying to be a doomsayer but more people on the road = more idiots to get into accidents. I also feel like I miss out on sleep during the weekends because even though I get a full 8 hours, it’s drunk sleep and not sleep sleep. So I was really tired today and tired driving is honestly one of the worst, most dangerous things to do. I obviously don’t make a habit of it but if you work a job, this situation is unavoidable. Good luck on the road out there. Oh and all my Fantasy Teams held this week except for one.

To keep the rambling going and this is something that I’m sure people are aware of but probably don’t pay much attention to. If you give someone your blackberry messenger pin and it looks like 1a2b3c0O this can get confusing so let’s just do a quick tutorial. Number 0, Letter O. This actually comes up more often than you think and now you know that the letter is wider and the number skinnier.

Another Weekend

So I’ll start with our Football game as I find these to be pretty easy to write about and I think they have decent entertainment value. Let me start with the phrase “appearance’s can be deceiving.” The team we played were all white and didn’t seem all that athletic, that is until on the first play one of their guys burned Bake down the field for a TD. So it was one play into the game and they were up 7-0. I don’t really need to break it down possession by possession but the bottom line is that we got dominated by a physically inferior team who played the game much better than us. Our defense is atrocious and, in my opinion, it’s due to poor matchups and the unknown of where our safety’s should play (if we should even have safeties). I’ve made the point that everyone likes to play safety because they have no responsibilities and it just doesn’t work. I guess my thought is to think that we can implement a zone in the first season, without any practice is a complete joke, and if we put our best coverage guys on their best players, rather than just pick a guy to cover, it might be helpful. Also to note is I would have had a TD but I let Jess Baker take whatever little glory was left considering it was the end of the game and we were down 40-20 or so. Considering it’s just a fun league though, I really don’t get too worked up over any of it.

My fantasy games went ok and I have a few riding on tonights action. The Turkey’s should move to 3-0 if Greg Jennings get’s less than 33 points in our PPR league. The Nuts are a slight dog, I think, because I’m only up 16 points with Jennings and Green Bay’s D but it’s no PPR. The Terminators are a toss up with me being up 50 points but up against 5 players in tonight’s game. And the Mind Erasers put up a good number but have no chance of winning. On the wagering front, I moved on with a Colt victory in the Eliminator and have lost exactly 0 dollars for the season with all my bets. I have little urge to re-deposit and consider it a job well done to have lost no money in 3 weeks.

I watched a load of TV yesterday because I felt awful from the weekend. I pretty much should give up alcohol but since Riverpalooza is this Saturday, this isn’t going to be the weekend. CK4 and I are running a ticket racket again so if you need some tickets, I can probably save you a buck or two. Back to TV though, I watched Family Guy, Eastbound and Down, Boardwalk Empire, and Dexter on Sunday night and I’ll give my quick opinions on each just because.

It’s apparent to me that Family Guy has come a long way in the past 10 years. Sunday’s episode was the Season Premier. The graphics on the show are a significant upgrade to how I remember and I was sort of surprised to see the show like that. If you watch a lot of episodes maybe you’ll know what I mean because it had a different feel to it. Brian and Stewie steal the show for me though and I didn’t find a huge amount of laughs but I still find the show amusing. Stewie and the outfit had me rolling and the Peter / Lois interaction was great especially with the hot wheels.

Eastbound and Down struck out for me. They relied on peculiar characters to try to win the audience over and it was sort of lame. I didn’t really think anything was all that great but I liked when Kenny was talking about Big Red and how “Aaron,” a hilarious name by the way, had the nerve to rob him during Big Red’s funeral. I liked when he referred to Hector as “Mice and Men” and the donkey picture taking scene was pretty funny. The baseball closing was dumb I thought. The show didn’t live up to the hype in my mind.

I find Boardwalk Empire to be a quality show. Steve Buscemi as Nookie? is just really fine acting. Not too much is happening but I think they are setting up a lot of story lines and I like where the show is going. They have a lot of strange shaped tits too.

Dexter premiere aired too and I don’t think they knocked it out of the park with the premier but, once again, it’s a lot of setting up story lines. Rita off the show is obviously a bummer but I’m sure it won’t take away too much. I thought Dexter’s acting throughout the episode was unusual. I know he’s supposed to be acting weird but it just seemed weirder on another level. The kill scene seemed forced too but I guess they were just showing what type of emotional level Dexter was at. I thought that Astor did the best acting in the episode when she was crying and yelling at Dexter. Sucks it’s a week to week show but at least it’s an hour.

I’ll have another post tonight depending on the outcome of our bball game so tune in.

Crying Movies – Reponse to Sam

I typically find it a pretty wussy move to cry during a movie. Just to give a couple thoughts to Sam’s post because I find it a pretty interesting topic. Sam’s list included Forrest Gump, Hardball?, Radio? March of the Penguins, Click and the 6th Sense. I’ve seen 3 of the 6 and will admit that the 6th Sense almost brought a tear to my eye at the exact spot Sam described. I felt no sympathy towards Jenny in Forrest Gump and didn’t mind that the whore bit the dust. Sam, Click, seriously? First off, the movie was awful and awful movies don’t deserve emotional attachment. Plus it’s Adam Sandler. I can’t comment on movies I haven’t seen but I haven’t cried at a Disney / Pixar flick since I was 10. The Lion King comes to mind when Mustafa was doing his slow motion falling and I felt bad for Simba.

Now to give you a movie that comes to mind as a movie that I think deserves crying. Schindler’s List. I remember watching this recently and during the end scene when the older versions of the characters are walking through the graveyards, I found that pretty moving. This was honestly one of the best movies I’ve ever seen and if you haven’t, you are missing out. Also, I believe that crying at a movie of one German man saving hundreds of Jews from execution should have more merit and be acceptable, compared to tiny, 2lb 3oz, little baby animated penguins dying… Armageddon is also a tear jerker when Bruce Willis bites the bullet for Ben Affleck and saves the day. I actually found that pretty sad because it was unselfishness of the dad towards his daughter and acts like this are usually more emotional. I will add more as I come to think of them.

Gleek?

So I went back in my archives and found a review I wrote up about Glee back on May 29th, 2009.

“I was bored yesterday and went to Hulu.com to watch an old family guy or something but I’d seen them all and came across a show called Glee. I had no idea what I was about to watch but I thought I read something saying it was decent. It was set in a high school and there’s a teacher who becomes the head of the Glee Club. By the way, his wife is really hot but she’s a complete bitch but does some good acting. I can tell its not going to be a really funny series but it has some potential because the characters seem pretty well developed. For being about something stupid like the Glee club I thought the show was above average. I watched only the Pilot and the series is coming out fall of 09 but it’s worth a watch if you have 45 minutes to kill.”

If you’ve been living under a rock, this show has become one of Fox’s hit series. I’ve followed the show and will continue to agree that it is a good watch. I actually don’t like watching it in real time with commercials so I DVR it and fast forward some through some parts. Specifically the slow songs just get the >>>>> (that’s five) DVR fast forward. I however do want to impregnate Dianna Argon (Quinn). She wears this cheerleading outfit and now that she’s not pregnant (in the show) she is just unbelievably hot. I found the Season 2 opener pretty weak actually with not too many good songs and nothing really happening. I have a feeling the Sue Sylvester shtick might be getting old. I hope I don’t have to turn my back on the series but sometimes when you don’t expect much out of something and it exceeds expectations it leaves a different taste than when it’s supposed to be awesome and seemingly falls short.

Unrelated to Glee, I had the impressions done for my missing tooth. Chalk on another 1,800 dollars to my dental bill and all in all, my faceplant accident cost me close to 5k. That’s about 9k of pretax dollars and certainly makes saving any money a nuisance. People will say to learn from your past mistakes but this one was more expensive than anything I’ve ever been through and now I have a steel implant in my gum for the rest of my life. I’ll chalk this one up to a pretty major fuck up but I have another bizarre injury to add to my list of already bizarre injuries. Fortunately I will make it through with no real problems and will continue on with life the best I can.

Amusing

I found this kind of amusing because I feel like this is me in a nutshell. Rather than say what’s on your mind you just kind of beat around the bush.

Actually something to write about

This is a very long post that I just left in one post even though I could have spread it over many posts. This will take you a while to read and will kill 5-10 minutes and it’s probably not worth the time to read it but do as you wish.

So I have quite a few topics to go over and many people to comment on. I had a sober weekend which has given me the energy on a Monday to put together a legitimate blog post. Sometimes I wonder if people like my random thoughts about random topics of if they like the stuff that I have going on in my life. I tend to think people don’t really care that much about what happens to me in RL but they are amused by what I think about topics. This however will be about things in my life that probably bore people but it’s my blog and I can write about whatever I want. I’m going to sum up some weekend events and bring it full circle to how my Monday ended up.

Since I didn’t drink on Friday, I was fresh to play touch football with a bunch of friends who decided to join the Manayunk league. We get to the field a little early and see that we are up against 6 black kids and some athletic girls who I must say were a tad bit intimidating considering this was our first game ever of football as a team. I don’t know about anyone else but this was the first organized football game I’ve played since, well, ever. The great thing about football is that it’s not that complicated and as long as you can run and catch, you should be ok. I think we have 8 people on the field at one time and we have 12 on the team so we sort of have shifts of subs. I mainly played defense but unlike some others on the team, this is perfectly acceptable to me as I could care less about scoring touchdowns. “Certain” people love that end zone. To make a long story short, the black QB had stereotypical black QB attributes and was fast as lightning but his passing accuracy was a bit suspect. I picked him off the first drive which should give you an idea how bad he was. He literally threw it to me and all I had to do was the Smalls catch from Bennie (Sandlot reference for the slow). With Bake at the helm he was lobbing balls up in the middle of the field that were unbelievably (to me) being caught by all components of our team. Jkash even managed to catch one either between his legs or with them. Evan had a couple of scores even though he was wearing a bright yellow shirt that made him impossible to forget to cover but it didn’t seem to matter. Our females dominated theirs and will be productive weapons through the season. The highlight of the game was the Shee playing D on one of their guys and after not being passed the ball, one of their guys said something like “man throw me the ball, this guy’s got two left feet!” The bottomline was that, Primetime, came through with a convincing 40 something to 20 something W and they had mostly garbage time points. I forgot to mention that we have the self credited best player in the league in Gusto and I can’t wait to see when our self declared best player meets our player with the biggest ego (CK4). I think we should have some fireworks on the field and I feel bad for Bake who has to deal with two egos that can barely fit on an outdoor field. Should get interesting.

Moving from real football to fantasy football. In Evan’s league, the Turkeys dominated Mo Motycki with the help of Austin Miles, Gates, and A Pete. I know his name is Mike Motycki but people used to call him Mo and I thought that was his first name so I just always thought it was Mo Motycki, so that’s just what I call him. The Mind Erasers wiped the floor with Gerald’s 3 beer race in Steve’s league and that was pretty obvious considering what happened in the real 3 beer race. The Nuts are teabagging their opponent in Baker’s league, although as I’m writing this I’m up 4 points and Brees needs to outscore Bush and Colston which is pretty much a guarantee at this point. And Bill Schmidt blew me out in my other league which I don’t want to go into much detail. I also survived the eliminator with a gimme Packers pick. That’s it for fake football.

I’m going to move right into some TV watching and give my takes on some shows out. I know this is late but the Jersey shore episode was really good. I’m glad they didn’t show much of Sammi and Ronnie. I think Vinnie’s character has really developed. When he was dancing around Angelina and Jose after she told Jose what happened, that was baller. He really seems to have gained a lot of confidence and is pulling some hot tail although his begging for that girl to come out was a bit lame if you ask me. I sort of think if she didn’t want to do it in the first place, why would you want her to go against her will. The Situation has shown no development in the 2 seasons and is still entertaining but what was the deal with him eating a sandwich while Pauly was getting some play. I think Pauly has been a hit with his witty one liners (when he was on the phone with the girl and said I want to bring the girl I love…and you can come too) and he’s pulling some major ass too. I find Snooki and Jwoww to be sort of blah and Angelina was a a great character to bring back. You have to have people who make things happen and she certainly does. I like how she thinks she’s all that and talks so much shit and really has no morals. I told Gusto I thought it was a good show and he said it was trash, but I retorted with it being a good look into the psyche of people of our generation and how they get along. It’s like a human experiment and I find the interactions to be very realistic even though it’s a false reality. There is definite tension among the characters and you can’t fake that.

Boardwalk Empire was interesting. I can see how people may have thought it was a little slow but I also think these are the same people who get excited by flashing lights, explosions, and loud sounds. They have to develop the characters along the entire season and I thought it was a fine intro. Steve Buscemi seems like a pretty good lead in the series and I can’t wait for Omar from the Wire to get involved. Seriously, he was the coolest character out of any series ever. I’ve certainly sat through worse series (Treme). I’ve considered watching Bored to Death again but I really wasn’t enthused after I watched the first two episodes.

We signed up for a Bball team in the Ambler Y and our first game was tonight. This is a fall league and will prep us for the winter. For the first season in 3 or so years, we found a big man. We have a 6-6 guy who is my brothers friend and will actually give us a shot at winning. He actually didn’t play the first game but we won anyway with just 6 people. We won by 15 or so and were never really in any threat of losing. Bake opened the game with a 3 ball and we pretty much never looked back. We didn’t play great but we held them to 12 points in the first half so we didn’t really need to. Jeff and I had some decent chemistry in the second half and the brother connection begins. We also added my old friend Bud Schmidt who is another good addition because we grew up playing together and get along well. Jkash adds the muscle and makes sure to get his fouls in. I have high hopes for our team as we actually have a full roster of people who have played ball before. I know Addashee feels slighted that I didn’t invite him to play and I’m publicly apologizing in my blog. However, the last winter league I asked you to play on, you only tried to play in one game and you were late and then couldn’t find the gym. Oh and I actually attempted two outside shots, both of which I missed but that will not deter me and I intend to keep firing them up.

This concludes the longest post I’ve ever written.

Life’s Mysteries.

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a few days now and am finally getting around to it at 10am on Sunday. I didn’t do any drinking this weekend and did the Philly Distance Run this morning. I finished in a disappointing 1 hour 24 something. I was about 5 minutes off my best time but to be honest, I was just happy I finished. At mile 3 I was ready to quit and by 9 I was completely spent. I pretty much limped into the finish line. It obviously sucks when you put in a lot of effort for a pitiful effort, but I had a feeling it was coming. I slacked off 2 weeks prior to the run with little training and then I overdid it the week before and hurt my foot. Although this had nothing to do with my performance it still hindered my ability to train the week before. Enough said though because I was just happy to finish and move on to next year.

The real reason for this post was guessing why people believe in what they believe in. I was about to go to sleep and it popped in my head, why do people believe there is a heaven? No one can confirm that there actually is but people worship a mystical being so that they can end up in this mythical place. I was just thinking about what happens when you die and the idea of spending “time?” in an area of paradise just doesn’t seem realistic. I put the time in quotes because you’d think that if you were dead and only a spirit that you wouldn’t be existing in “real life” time. Plus what is so magical up there that’s not down there? What are my options in the afterlife? Can I play Ping-Pong or Foosball if I’m in the mood? Are John Lennon and George Harrison walking around up there and are they being mobbed by all their dead fans, because that sounds like hell for them? Or is it just a serene place where everyone is just really relaxed with no worries and there’s no concern for money or your next meal and everything is perfect? I call bullshit. I try not to think about this stuff to often but when I ask myself do I believe in a religion and when I break it down to the nitty gritty and ask: Do I want to do good and pray to a god who is supposedly looking after me so I can feel good that when I die, my soul will be complete and content? Can’t I just be a good person and rot in the ground just like everyone else? Is that not an option? I also assume that hell is a place of torment that you want to kill yourself to end the misery but you can’t.

Although the consideration of the afterlife is a great mystery, the greatest mystery is how did everything start. How did everything begin. To start this whole universe, something had to happen and what was there before something happened? Everything couldn’t have just existed at the beginning of time. I get it, it’s called the big bang and the universe was created, great theory. Or mythical god created the universe because he had this grand plan. Your telling me he came up with the idea that when a man pumps his penis into a woman’s vagina many times, semen filled with sperm is going to come out and impregnate a woman’s egg? Like seriously where does he come up with this stuff. If it was up to me I would just have made it so that a man and a woman can clap their hands together 3 times and voila, a little baby. It’s so much easier and much less painful, why go through all the hard work and labor? I’m just skeptical about how it all began because everything just works so perfectly.

Iq Test

So I went to IQtest.com and took the 38 question test. It took me 15 minutes or so and at the end they asked for $9.95. This isn’t something that I normally would pay for but after spending the time I figured what the hell. I know I’m not the smartest person around and I did pretty shitty on my SAT’s so I wasn’t expecting much. Obviously, I wouldn’t be posting if I scored terribly low so I know you are all waiting in suspense. I posted a 129 IQ with some off the chart readings in spatial skill and visual apprehension. I was lacking in computational speed which was understandable as some of the questions I sat there thinking like a tard. Here is my lengthy breakdown if anyone cares. Also if you want to comment on how you did if you did, that’s always welcome. I also want to point out that if I’m so smart, how am I injuring myself in ways that are unbeknownst to the common folk. I think I made that word up.

General IQ Score

Your General IQ Score of 129 shows how able your mind is in general. Anyone with a General IQ Score this high is considered to be of above average intelligence. This score is better than 97.34% of all persons taking this test. Most occupations can be comprehended with a General IQ this high. You should be able to handle almost all academic challenges.

You scored higher than your General IQ Score in 7 individual ability categories. None of these better scores could be called statistically significant.
Arithmetic

Solving many of the IQ Test’s problems required the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers mentally. Many mental tasks require arithmetical operations even though numbers may not be involved, and thus number manipulation abilities can strongly indicate general intelligence.

Your Arithmetic IQ score of 127 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 96.41% of all persons taking this test.
Spatial Skill

Understanding what changes will occur when conditions vary is a deep and powerful ability of the mind. All invention and creativity of every sort is based upon this ability. Although test problems usually involve manipulation of objects in space, persons with a stronger ability to spatially manipulate can also be expected to use this ability to be able to better predict how social and psychological situations would change due to variation.

Your Spatial Skill IQ score of 137 is exceptionally higher than your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.32% of all persons taking this test.
Logical

This is the ability to determine if a set of rules has been correctly followed. This ability is most useful in combination with other mental skills listed above. Those with strong logical ability are quicker to see where a given set of conditions is going to lead, have a strong sense of justice, and better understand–from an intellectual analysis–the benefits of harmony.

Your Logical IQ score of 132 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 98.36% of all persons taking this test.
Spelling

The ability to spell can indicate general intelligence. Remembering a set sequence of letters indicates the mind’s ability to retrieve remembered facts. Learning how to spell and use the words of a language is almost a complete IQ test in itself. Although poor spellers with high IQ scores can be found, it is rare, and in general–everything else being equal–the better spellers have higher IQ scores.

Your Spelling IQ score of 129 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 97.34% of all persons taking this test.
Short Term Memory

The ability to remember things for a short period of time allows the mind to check back and retrieve facts needed to complete a problem solving operation. This ability becomes more critical when problems have many aspects that need consideration and/or need to be solved mentally. This ability strongly determines how efficiently one handles the many aspects of normal life. If your short term memory ability is strong you are much less likely to seem inattentive or “slow to get it” to others.

Your Short Term Memory IQ score of 128 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 96.90% of all persons taking this test.
Rote Utilization

This is the ability to take a set of memorized facts and mentally extract and/or operate with or upon the facts within the set that are pertinent to the problem at hand. Persons with more of this ability can be expected to spell well, remember telephone and other numbers easily, be more adroit in procedural operations, and have a stronger foundation for tasks that require the use of memorized material.

Your Rote Utilization IQ score of 130 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 97.72% of all persons taking this test.
Algebraic

This is the ability of the mind to abstractly handle quantities and qualities. Persons who are strong in this ability can more quickly and more deeply understand analogies, stories, derivations, equalities, and hierarchical structures.

Your Algebraic IQ score of 131 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 98.06% of all persons taking this test.
General Knowledge

Knowledge that is casually picked up and remembered can indicate intelligence, because persons with higher intelligence will exhibit greater retention of those pieces of information that are encountered less often. Because higher intelligence allows a person to have a deeper appreciation of the connectivity of facts that may seem disparate to others of lesser intelligence, memory of such facts becomes easier.

Your General Knowledge IQ score of 130 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 97.72% of all persons taking this test.
Visual Apprehension

This is the ability of the mind to mentally picture visual information and to be able to extract portions of that information for separate use. A person whose visual apprehension is strong enjoys a richer, more creative appreciation of visual aspects of experiences.

Your Visual Apprehension IQ score of 137 is exceptionally higher than your General IQ score. This score is better than 99.32% of all persons taking this test.
Geometric

How well one can comprehend geometric relationships of lines, sides, planes, angles, and topological properties strongly determines one’s ability to make sense of visual information. The strength of one’s geometric ability can strongly determine how quickly knowledge can be absorbed if it is presented visually.

Your Geometric IQ score of 134 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 98.83% of all persons taking this test.
Vocabulary

Knowing the meaning of words is an ability that directly increases along with the increase of general intelligence. The meaning of a word is more easily remembered with higher intelligence, because it takes more intelligence to understand and correctly use words based upon the subtle differences between words with similar meanings and to comprehend difficult concepts which are sometimes symbolized by a single word.

Your Vocabulary IQ score of 127 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 96.41% of all persons taking this test.
Intuition

Intuition is defined as that ability of the mind to develop answers to questions without consciously dealing with the problem at hand. Often a question will provoke your mind to answer without using conscious processing time, and the answer is said to come “out of the blue” or “suddenly, it just struck me”. Of all the many abilities of the mind, this is one of the most often used. Just knowing what to do is often an automatic process that occurs without much conscious figuring. Those with stronger intuition make less mistakes and can seem luckier, wiser, or more mature.

Your Intuition IQ score of 128 is not significantly different from your General IQ score. This score is better than 96.90% of all persons taking this test.
Computational Speed

If you can correctly solve a variety of problems faster than another person, you may be demonstrating a generally more orderly internal arrangement of your mind’s problem solving methods. While speed cannot be the sole factor in determining overall superiority in one mental operations, in general faster computational speed will often indicate that a problem’s comprehension was more complete. With everything else being equal, a person with faster computational speed than another person’s will be better at tasks that require the synthesis of many bits of information.

Your Computational Speed IQ score of 109 is significantly lower than your General IQ score. This score is better than 72.57% of all persons taking this test.
