2nd rare Sunday Post

So I guess these aren’t so rare anymore but like I wrote earlier, today isn’t your typical Sunday. I have a few random topics to discuss.

Some people are music people and others are talkers. Whenever you are in a social situation and there are only 2 or 3 people and you are just hanging out, there will usually be some sort distraction to keep from awkward silences. This also occurs in car rides when you have to decide to play music or not. Myself, I’m a background music guy where it’s not overwhelmingly loud so you can’t hear each other but it’s not dead silence either. I feel like this keeps silences like business as usual. Jeff and I probably spent about 10 hours together in the car and at no point was it weird. Now this could just be because we are brothers and get along but the test of long drives and if you can stand the other person should be a good factor in whether two people are compatible. Now I was also in another situation where there was no music or any distraction whatsoever and it pretty much forced talking. Normally this has disaster written all over it but turned out to be perfectly normal. I personally prefer nothing at all over people who just completely blast the music so that there is no communication at all, although if you are really good friends, this is certainly nothing wrong with a nice jam out.

Another situation I encounter is when restaurants give way to much food. I’m not a huge eater but I feel ashamed when the restaurant gives a huge portion and I have to leave like half the portion for them to throw out. I also don’t really do leftovers unless the situation really calls for it. On our road trip we went to IHOP and I got a huge ham and cheese omelet and then they also gave 3 pancakes. This is way to much food for me and the pancakes should have been homefries so I could look better when I don’t eat the full meal. I honestly feel that the servers look down on you if you can’t finish your meal.

Rare Sunday Post

Whenever I’m able to post on Sunday, especially Sunday morning (it’s 9:34), it must mean that I didn’t have a late night on Saturday night. Now considering I was passed out by 7pm, that led to this rarity. I guess I should start with Friday night. CK4 beat me in beer pong 4 in a row and then we met Dooley and his friend at the Bayou. Nothing was really happening at the Bayou so we went to the Brew Pub and that wasn’t that great so I wandered off to Mad River by myself. As I recall the place was ridiculously packed. Things started to get stranger though and all the details aren’t really in my memory. I met Mael and he was there with some friends and I must have gotten in a cab to go home with them because at 6am on Saturday morning I woke up in place I’ve never been before. I sort of remember being a dick to this one kid but I can’t really remember the exact details. So I was pretty confused at that point and ended up walking back to Green Lane which was only about 10 minutes away. We had football games at 11 am so when I woke up at 9:30 I realized that I had two wallets in my pocket and I must have grabbed the wrong one when I was leaving the random house. I ended up returning it later in the day but still a bit bizarre. So that’s what happened to me before our football games.

Primetime was playing a double header and we had a good amount of players with subs and all. Nobody, except for Jkash, was prepared for Tee Shirt time so that idea isn’t going to take off. The first team seemed like they were going to be good but I think we ended up winning by 2 scores. There wasn’t really too much of interest other than we won. The second game was against the Hill who is pretty much the team that plays every season in every single sport, so they were pretty experienced. They had a fluke TD at the end of halftime that hurt us and they ran good routes. They spread their girls wide and their one girl had great hands for a girl. Bottomline was they won by one score on the last drive of the game. Our defense didn’t come through as they marched down the field on the last drive. There were no amusing stories.

So after that Gusto and I started drinking and playing poker. I bought a Sam Adams variety pack and to anyone who likes beer, this is one of the best variety packs I’ve ever had. Seriously, Sam Adams as a brewer gets a 9 out of 10 and the only reason I don’t give it a 10 is because I don’t like giving out 10’s. Problem was they are usually higher alcohol contents and I probably had 9 or 10 in a 5 hour period and I was ready to pass out. I probably could have rallied but it wouldn’t have been good for anyone. So I have no good stories from last night but I feel fine now and will go to they gym once my laundry finishes up. Tanning is later. So passing our early does have it’s advantages. I feel good now and can do things during the day other than just sit there. I plan to read some more of my book and then write a few entries that I have been stirring up.

I’ll add one sports betting paragraph. Dooley was big on Pitt so I made a stand and put 131 dollars on the Panthers and they actually came through. Then I put 75 on the rangers at +122 and put 82 bucks on Iowa which hit too. So I went 3 for 3 and 4 for my last 4. Now that I’ve established myself as credible (yeah right…) I will give my picks for the day. I’m riding Jamaal Charles and the Chiefs at +5. I also think the Steelers at -14 is probably going to happen because Colt McCoy is going to learn what it’s like in the NFL against a top D.

Notice Me

Jkash said the blog has been sucking lately and it’s because I’m not mentioning him enough in it. If I knew it was that easy to make a good blog by adding his name, I’d be happy to add it every sentence. I find it pretty funny that people like the recognition and I should probably personalize the blog more often because I think that will generate some loyal readers. So be on the look out for random name inputs to make people feel important. Hafer, my apologies for not getting in touch with you while I was in Va. Dooley, my apologies for not wanting to go to Pittsburgh but I don’t like the city that much and I’m 5 years out of college and that part of my life is finished. Laura, yes I use exclamation points but like you noticed it’s a rarity, however if you can’t get excited for Tee Shirt time, I don’t know when else an exclamation point it warranted. Let me know if you want to go with us to see Jwoww. I’ll write CK4 just to give him his ego boost. That’s all for now and I have a tremendous idea of drunk video blogs and this might be excellent documentation of how fucked up I get on weekends and I’m happy to share with the world. I know this could put my professional career in jeopardy and people won’t be able to take me seriously, but it’s for the good of my viewers. Till then.

Are you serious?

Do you realize the dedication that I have to this blog that I’m making a post after just posting a drunk video blog because I realize that not everyone at work can view videos. Now I know the sound was a bit off on the video and I’m not really sure why, but I can put some thoughts on electronic paper that should be as entertaining. I’m still writing this a bit intoxicated but I’m sure no one really cares too much about that. Jsmashed got fucked up tonight and left a bit earlier than me but I only stayed an hour after him because I wasn’t trying to get so retarded I couldn’t go to work tomorrow. CK4 thought he was going to get lucky so he stayed after I left.

This is coming back from my Southern trip where I saw the following cities Baltimore, Hyattsville, Bethesda, Alexandria, Manassas, Lorton and Frederick so I made my way around. Last night when we finished for the day and settled in Alexandria we drove to see Jill because she wasn’t far away in Fairfax. Generally going out of my way to meet up with people is not happening but we figured to give it a shot. We saw George Mason University and it was a pretty fun time. I’ve also never seen an apartment so clean, her place was meticulous which is the flip side of 200 Green Lane. Our trip was moderately successful as we didn’t strike out completely and other than getting kicked out of sales meeting, everything was OK except for the traffic. It really gets taxing visiting store after store and I was happy to call it quits on day 2. It’s very good experience though and throwing yourself in front of strangers as a salesmen has a way of hardening the ego. I’m sure I will be doing things like this on the reg so get used to it.

On the road

I’m blogging from my newly acquired laptop that has a few capabilities that I’m not used to. The keyboard’s keys don’t rise up as high so it’s taking me a little bit to adjust, but it feels pretty smooth as long as I can find the homerow. It also has a built in webcam that will allow me to videoblog with ease.

I am currently in Alexandria, Va typing from a Comfort Inn. The rate was 89 bucks which I thought was a steal but Jeff thought this was a baller place after traveling on the road looking for cheap lodging. Our business trip today went well and we hit about 15 or so customers. We walked away with at least one order which means we aren’t walking away with a doughnut. Tomorrow we will have to put up with VA traffic but we plan on getting an early start so hopefully we will miss it. Jeff only brought one pair of pants so it was imperative he got nothing on them at dinner, he failed. We went to a dogfish ale pub which was pretty good and I had their sampler which consisted of some 60, 75, and 90 IPA’s which were all very tasty. Tomorrow we will wake up early and get ihop.
Someone wrote that they felt “honered” that I mentioned them in my blog and I just want to point out that this blog is read by a maximum 30 people a day and honored might be a bit much. First off my status shouldn’t be held in such high regard. However I do find the enthusiasm refreshing, so I will say that is a good thing. Tee shirt time this Saturday for football!

Tee Shirt Time

Jess Baker, nice comment on the last post, the tee shirt time would be a pretty funny trademark to open every football game with. Huck, if your on a heater, share the wealth and just let me know who to take. I’m pretty much just monkey throwing a dart at a selection of games. That addresses my comments as I wrote on Sam’s wall, everyone gets anxious to read the comments on posts but people don’t like taking the time to write them, so I obviously will address them when people write them.

There have been some developments in Green Lane lately which I hesitate to bring up but I think are too funny not to. Evan has a co-worker who isn’t so well versed in the English language and whenever he asks Evan how to do something and he gives him the answer, he responds with “that’s what I was thinking.” Obviously this isn’t what you were thinking if you didn’t know how to do it. So this has pretty much taken our comments by storm and for whatever reason this line can find a barrel of laughs time and time again. Basically if I post questions like why the fuck would you do that, the right response is always “that’s what I was thinking.” Just give it a try it’s pretty hilarious.

The Shee and I also find the Pauly D “Oh Yeah’s” hilarious. Anytime during football and there’s a big play you just erupt into “OH YEAH, BIG PLAY, OH YEAH.” The voice obviously has to accompany it but this is also hilarious. Spontaneous “CABS ARE HERE,” are also acceptable. Jwoww is coming to Mad River next Tuesday and I’d expect a pretty big turn out. It’s only Jwoww but still, it’s going to bring a huge crowd. 2 of the 3 bartenders I know who usually serve me cheap alcohol are no longer employed there so I’m on a new mission to find new friends who will serve me cheap booze. It’s been a while since I’ve had this issue but paying full price at Mad River can get pricey so I need to work quickly to find some cohorts.

To some not as entertaining news, I watched Weeds too which I thought wasn’t too bad but nothing really happened in the episode. I feel like they are just kind of stringing along a season with nothing really happening. It’s entertaining but not necessarily anything I’d call a good show. I thought Boardwalk Empire was kind of weak with not much really going on. I hate to say it but this show better start developing fast because I feel like the action is a bit stale. Dexter was decent but I wish they would have strung along Boyd to another episode and maybe gave him more abilities than just a one and done kill for Dex. The sideplot with the heads seems sort of dumb but I’m not going to make any sure thing comments because this show seems to get better as it goes along. I also watched Kenny Powers and they just missed the mark a little bit. He’s still funny and I love how he refers to the people as villagers but it doesn’t have as good as a plot as the first season. That’s it for TV and my fantasy team was 3-1 this week and I have +.500 records in all 4 leagues which is pretty good. I’ll be away for Wed and Thur so my updates may not be there, but my traffic has been weak anyway so I’m not sure too many people will be very concerned.

Dirt Nap

So I took a dirt nap literally on Saturday night. Jeff and his band of cronies thought it was a hilarious move to put a “plant” in my bed. Apparently Steve was giving me flowers. Well they uprooted this plant and I woke up on Sunday morning like “why the hell is there a plant in my bed.” I actually think it’s pretty funny and even though my tone would make you think I was mad, I really don’t care except that last night I was sleeping on dirt. That was Saturday night and Jeff and his friends got introduced to the Mad River / Mind Eraser combo that leads to blackouts all around. I remember being at the bar til close and Jeff said that he saw me leave and get into a cab while they ended up walking home which I thought was pretty comical. It shows how concerned I am for other people. I’m sure their journey home was pretty interesting consider there’s a little, tiny, fold em up, chair in our living room. That was a pretty fun night and Friday was sort of a blur.

I got my tooth in on Saturday morning which went off without a hitch. After the dentist we had our football game. Primetime was back and firing on all cylinders which was nice. It’s hilarious because the other teams all have matching shirts and receiving gloves and we show up not knowing what color shirt we are going to wear. We are either blue or white and Evan wears this bright yellow fluorescent shirt which mystifies me a little bit but it must be some reverse psychology in being so identifiable the defense for gets about them. The game was a blow out from the beginning. We started playing a zone defense for the first time and we our holes were much less severe. CK4 lapsed in the zone on one of their first possessions and they scored their only TD. I think we ended with 35 points or so and we pretty much just shut down their offense. I got my 2nd pick of the year and should have been dancing in the end zone but the chump got me at the one. 1 pick could get lucky, 2 could be a fluke, but any more and there is a new island being named. It’s much more fun to win these games then to lose.

My fantasy teams should be 3-1 this week and even a chance at 4-0 if Sanchez and LT get 40+ points. The Turkey’s haven’t officially won but I’m up with 3 guys going and a lead vs Dustin Keller. That’s poised for a 150 week which should be big enough to give me the #1 spot in the league over the She(e)(e). The Nuts beat Bake as long as the Jets don’t give up tons of points. The Mind Erasers also pulled off a solid victory to move me to 3-2 and a winning record in all 4 leagues. I even made some money yesterday with a nice pick of Detroit, Oakland, and the Eagles moneyline. This puts me up about 150 for the season finishing out week 5. This blog is my record keeping for my sports bets so accuracy is in tact.

I didn’t get to watch my TV but I’ll probably catch up and post tonight. I did watch Dexter but I’ll save it for another post because I’m sure everyone cares about my opinions.

Phillie Phriday

Hilarious title I know. I actually didn’t watch even a single inning of the Halladay no hitter. That was the day I did some shopping and I found it nice that no one was in the stores. I feel somewhat bad that I have no allegiance to the Phillies, being from Philly and all, but it’s just baseball. I’ll watch the game today but it’s only because it’s at the bar and I’ll be getting hammered during it. I’ll probably even place a bet on the game to keep it interesting. I’m up 20 bucks or so on the year which is pathetic but it’s better than being down. I placed a 10 dollar parlay on Kansas State +11 and the under last night and had to turn it off when it was 38 to 3 in favor of Nebraska. It’s a pure guessing game for me I know, but what else is there to do entertain myself on the cheap.

I’m literally getting a screw job tomorrow at 10:30 from the dentist. I know this sounds wrong but they are finally putting the crown on my implant so I don’t have to walk around like a cyborg anymore. 10:30 on a Saturday isn’t my ideal time but I go with what’s available. Primetime, our football team, is at 12 so I’ll be cutting it close but I can’t imagine how long it should take to screw in a tooth and cement it. After football is bball because we were so bad that I have to get in some practice. Then after that I plan on drinking the Saturday away because for the 2nd straight week I spent 5 full work days working. I haven’t bought a specialty case in a while and will test out a new beer. Nothing else new.

Real Life Shopping and Music Shams

I “had” a 24 in Samsung monitor that would no longer display. It was acting kooky for a few weeks before it finally just died and started making weird clicking sounds. Now this was a pretty nice monitor that I spent near 500 bucks on about 2 and half years ago so I wasn’t exactly thrilled with it dying this soon. So I go to best buy with the monitor and tell them I’m 95% sure it’s the monitor because I hooked up another monitor and it is working fine. So they say they can try to repair it, it will cost 85 bucks to ship and that my best solution is to just buy a new one because you’ll spend just as much money fixing the old one. Naturally. So I know that my desktop is 4+ years old and this might be a good time to upgrade anyway so I begin to look at some laptops because it would come in handy. So I talk to the salesman, who doesn’t work on commission, and come away with a model I like. I ask him if there is any advantage to ordering through Best Buy opposed to Dell. He really can’t give me an answer so I was happy to know they were out of stock so I just bought direct. It doesn’t solve my monitor solution but for the moment I have a 15″ little guy to use thanks to Evan.

During my Best Buy trip I was looking around and noticed how slim their CD inventory has gotten. I thought of a few bands I liked and bought the newest Anberlin and Arcade Fire CD for ten bucks each. Anberlin was a mere 10 tracks and Arcade Fire 15 but the price was certainly right. I remember the days when they had rows and rows and CD’s were still in before this new age of dl’ding music existed. Nevertheless I will listen to them in my car for a bit and probably write about them in the future.
After Best Buy I went to Barnes and Nobel to pick up some books. Business books tend to pique my interest and I wasn’t surprised to see tons of books on blogging to make money, how to use facebook, and a plethora of books on Google and the banking industry’s collapse. So then I browsed some fiction books and just couldn’t really come up with anything (if you’ve read a good book, I’d be glad if you shared it with me). I ended up leaving the store empty handed. I then went to Target and bought 2 pairs of mesh shorts because I’ve had a few pairs mysteriously disappear and a new wallet because my old one had a rip in the side with the cards and they had a tendency to all fall out. I also bought the 2nd Stieg Larsson book and will read it after I finish Michael Connelly’s Black Ice.

What I realized was that I didn’t have to do any of what I just did physically. I could have easily bought everything I left with online and probably didn’t even have to take my monitor to Best Buy to get the information. Yes I would have had to wait a day or two for the goods but I was in no rush for anything. So not only could I have saved time but probably money as well. It’s no wonder shopping on the internet has revolutionized business practices. Retail stores are on their way out and most business models concentrating on physical retail have a big hurdle to jump. Our generation from 18-35 will rely on the internet for EVERYTHING if we don’t already. It’s sort of wild to think like that and then comprehend that baby boomers have a harder time grasping this fact. I just sort of really realized it today when it came to my attention that I completely wasted my time. The one advantage is though that you get to see everything which there really is no substitute. I can see how some people wouldn’t feel comfortable shopping without that. For me though, I don’t try anything on and size myself up and buy goods that I am not too worried if they fit perfectly. Just an interesting thing to note.

Off topic, something that is funny is when there is a song that an artist covers that no one really knows is a cover. I heard “the first cut is the deepest” the other day and my first thought is that it’s a song by Sheryl Crow. Wrong. The artist that sang the song I was listening to was Rod Stewart. Even he didn’t write the song, I wikipedia’d it and turns out it was written by Cat Stevens. Funny how without doing the research, you would have no idea who created that song. Another music sham that goes around in today’s age that people may not be to privy to is older songs beats used as background music. I heard a relatively new song by Nikki Minaj and Will.I.Am called “Check it out”.

Background music is Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. Good trivia that anyone who knows music knows, this was the first video aired by MTV. Thing is, younger people have no idea that this beat was from this song and just attribute it to these artists. I don’t necessarily think there is anything wrong with it, but I’m just pointing out how creative these new artists are to reuse all these beats from old songs. Just another interesting tidbit.
