Trolling the Music Net

I basically beg people to follow my AltNation playlist on Spotify because I consistently add songs to my playlist weeks before they hit the radio full fledged. Either way, I have a lot of time in my life to listen to the radio and have a pretty good handle on new music. I lost it today when I was listening to Radio 104.5 and heard these 3 songs in a row: Pretender by Foo Fighters, Panic Switch by Silversun Pickups, and then Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. Here are the years released respectively 2007, 2009, 2006. I’m sorry but this is the worst type of genre for a radio station to play. These songs were popular 5 years ago, we got sick of them when they were popular, and 5 years isn’t enough time to bring them back. I tweeted Radio 104.5.

People like hearing songs that are either 1) New or 2) Old songs that never die. If I ever have to hear Electric Feel one more time I’m jumping into a pool with a TV to get a real electric feel. I know the radio station is limited to what they can play but AltNation on Sirius consistently dominates Radio 104.5 with new music. Which leads me to my next situation.

I’m not sure why stations haven’t pick up Battle Cry by Imagine Dragons but it’s a decent song and from my understanding the first single since Night Visions. I decided to post this on the Alt Nation Facebook page. I tried to use @ImagineDragons and embed the video in the post and it kept coming up saying that it couldn’t be posted. I tried it 5 times with the same message before giving up. Little did I know, it was posting each time. This led to this little back and forth.

Obviously I don’t care about Gina or Oscar but there is a certain satisfaction to fucking with people on the internet. I’m pretty sure there is no downside and unlimited upside. My friend even called me today to discuss my internet tiff which almost made me feel like a real man coming back from a real fight. I’ll continue these shenanigans because they make for good entertainment.

How is the United States Viewed Around the World?

usgraph

It’s no surprise that the US is not well liked among the Middle East. We invade their land and take their oil, settle disputes that we have nothing to do with, and live an extravagant lifestyle that is frowned upon. I would never have guessed Greece, China, and Argentina would be among the bottom. I know WWII would make Germans hate us but I thought that would have been more patched up by now.

I had no idea that Philippines had a population of almost 100 million which is way bigger than I thought. South Korea’s 74% is almost laughable as no one seems to be able to take a serious stand. At least we do good work in Kenya and Ghana which is something to be proud of.

The fact that we aren’t looked that highly in our own country is interesting. 19% of the people here aren’t satisfied. That’s absurd. Get a job you bums.

Early 2000’s Reality TV Hotties

I haven’t watched reality TV in many years but when it struck in 2000, it struck hard with talent.  Casts were scripted to have certain stereotypes and a hot girl was always one of them.  I’m going back to the early 2000’s to pick the best looking babes from early reality TV.

Colleen Haskell from Survivor

colleen-haskell

Colleen Haskell from Survivor I

From the first season of Survivor, Colleen was the best looking female (with Jenna as a close second but she made a sex tape so I had to exclude her).  You may remember her (probably not) from the Rob Schneider movie Animal which was god awful.  She has a credit in one episode of that 70’s show but gave up acting to be a real person.  For that one season of Survivor, she was the cat’s meow coming in as the girl next door.  Her Facebook page has 1,700 likes which is better than an average person but not celebrity status.

Mandy Lauderdale from Temptation Island

Mandy from Temptation Island

Mandy from Temptation Island

She had the best color hair on Temptation Island back in 2001.   This was not Fox’s finest show but the idea of putting couples on an island to test the strength of their relationship wasn’t atrocious.  It has a 3.2 rating on IMDB so I wouldn’t be surprised if 0 people who read this blog remember it.  Mandy has 7,000 followers on Twitter and is a singer for a burlesque show in Atlanta, Ga.

Elisabeth Filarski from Survivor

ELISABETH-FILARSKI-HASSELBECK

Elisabeth Hasselbeck from Survivor

Oh you mean Elisabeth Hasselbeck?  The season 2 hottie from Survivor that married the no talent analyst Tim Hasselbeck.  What a babe.  Who would have thought that Survivor would have been a stepping stone to a high profile job on the View when she was only 26.  She married Hasselbeck out of college which is even crazier how she got on Survivor, rose to prominence herself, and then married an NFL player.  Nice life choices!

Susie Meister from Road Rules

Susie

Susie Meister of Road Rules: Austraila

When I think of Road Rules I think of Tanya Cooley.  Tanya was certifiable and did a Cinemax softporn.  Susie was the best looking of Road Rules cast when I used to watch back in the early 2000’s.  She looks like she took the normal life path which isn’t surprising when you find out she has a strong Christian background and is from Pittsburgh.  With 11k followers on Twitter, I would guess her days out of the public high have arrived. She maintains a blog and probably gets less traffic than I do.

Megan Hauserman from Beauty and the Geek

Megan Hauserman from Beauty and the Geek

Megan Hauserman from Beauty and the Geek

This is a little more recent hitting with Megan’s first appearance in 2008.  Megan could be one of the most polarizing females to play the reality TV game.  She had a plan to become famous going into these shows and did a wonderful job of doing so.  She spun her win from the Beauty and the Geek role into appearances on VH1’s I Love Money, Rock of Love, and then her own show, Megan Wants a Millionaire, on VH1.  The latter show was cancelled when one of the contestants, Ryan Jenkins, murdered Jasmine Fiore.  She has a DUI and got into some feud with Sharon Osborne which is about the most exciting news I can drum up on her.  What a bod.

Trishelle Cannatella from Real World

Trishelle Cannatella from Road Rules

Trishelle Cannatella from Road Rules

I had a crush on Trishelle during her Real World days in 2002.  She evolved into an MTV reality star and even tries making money playing poker which is kind of hot.  Her Facebook page still gets updated on a regular basis and I’d say she still looks pretty damn good.   With 35k Twitter followers, she is one of the most lasting figures from the early reality TV days.  Pretty nice ass too.

3 Rounds to the Weekend

I had a good weekend for a change. I’m not sitting here on a Monday complaining how dehydrated I am. I’m feeling good and fairly proud of myself for doing something productive.

TC at Bella VistaMy plan was to do the Phil’s 10k on Saturday which would mean no drinking on Friday night. This was a slight inconvenience because I knew there were going to be a lot of fun things going on Friday night. After work I made a decision to go golfing by myself as this activity would make my decision making easy. I called a few courses, gauged the level of speed, and chose Bella Vista in Gilbertsville. It took me over an hour to get there but I got right off. I played two balls per hole and thoroughly enjoyed myself while smoking a stogie. Once I caught people I was able to practice on the hole which was much needed. Player 1 finished with an 87 from the backs and player 2 missed a few holes but didn’t play as well.

I got home around 9 and watched a 30 for 30 on OJ before falling asleep. I woke up the next day at 6:30am to get to the race which started at 8. I dropped a deuce the moment I woke up but I kind of had to drop another one as I went through the registration process. There were a lack of bathrooms at the race and I had to hold it. The race went off and I found myself in the top 10 running in neighborhoods I was very familiar with. I felt pretty good the entire race even though my leg felt like it was going to cramp up. I hardly felt like I was moving through the trail portions but I finished with a respectable 37:08, 6 minute pace, which was good for 8th place.  This was 45 seconds faster than my last 10k.

TC and CK4 I met with Chad, Nikkii, and Auggie after the race and we ate some food and chatted it up. I should have stayed for the awards as I got 2nd in my age group.  I offered my pie to Nathan and he seemed pleased. I went back to UD, showered, got a haircut, then met Chad, Nikkii, and the Rock for a few beers at Chickie and Pete’s. We shot the shit and after I drove to Lederach to play golf with the Shee and Bud. Bud arrived on time and we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon. I was atrocious around the greens and hole #13 is a complete F job. I finished with a 90 and the Shee put down an 87. Bud was a bit higher.

I was starting to feel a bit tired but I went back to Philly, showered, then met the Rock out at 19 which is a swanky bar in the Bellevue. We bar hopped and talked like we always do even though we only see each other every few months. We called the night quits at midnight because I was exhausted.

I woke up early Sunday morning feeling good. I watched the 2 episodes of the Leftovers which I’m gung ho on and then played bball with the Shee. The games were average and then instead of watching the World Cup, we decided to go golfing at Lulu. The round was great as there were hardly any people on the course. We finished in just over 3 hours and I had a great back firing a 39 for an 84 total. Donald got me a few times on the front or else I could have gotten lower. I went home after that and watched Ray Donovan and the new Leftovers and put a full weekend in the books.

TCScorecardGolf is expensive and I probably spent 140 bucks on rounds this weekend but I enjoy it and you can’t put a price on happiness. I think that rounds in the future will continue on this downward trend and hopefully this will be the year I can play in the 70’s.  I expect a full week of good blog posts as well.

Who Will Win the World Cup?

I think this picture in a German newspaper says it all.

Germany slices Argentina

I know nothing about soccer but will probably watch the game and think Germany will win. I would be biased to a nation that I have some heritage from but Germany looks like the best team considering how the Dutch stalemated the Argentinians. They are pretty heavy favorites going off at -180 to win the game. I still don’t know if that line includes shootouts or not. I don’t think it does because a draw is a shootout unless the draw ends in regulation. The confusion of the betting and knowing whether you win or not is a turn off to these types of bets.

Yep!

3010269787_polls_yep_5632_719815_poll_xlarge_answer_1_xlargeI pay somewhat close attention to the words that come out of my mouth.  I notice when I say too many “you knows” or “likes” and do my best to avoid it.  Lately I’ve been stuck in the “yep” phase.  Whenever I’m agreeing with someone else I say it.  Every once in a while it’s fine to use it but not every single time.  I must be a complete yes man because all I ever catch myself is saying yep.

I decided to do some further investigation on other people’s yep usage and this is what I came up with.

  • you’re drinkin a beer, and u dont have nothin else to say.

Yep.

  • Alternately, an affirmative response with minimal energy.  Yes doesn’t work, it is just awkward

Sarah: yeah, swimming is awesome
Max: yep
Sarah: Hey, are you going to that party tomorrow at brad’s house

  • The incorrect spelling of the word “yup”

Girl: Want to watch the movie later?
Boy: Yep
Girl: You mean “yup” right?
Boy: Yup

I know this is a pretty fascinating discovery of the over usage of the word yep.  I think I’m making this post to put yep to bed.  I’m going to start throwing in some more “corrects” and “rights” to balance it out.

Shrink the Bowl

fat-assJeff and I were talking about Ms. Carl the other day from high school when the question came up how does she poop.  She had a hip replacement so it wasn’t fair to bad mouth a nice woman like Ms. Carl but either way she was the example that popped up.  When you are a really fat and have a huge ass, do you need to buy specialized toilet bowls?  I can’t imagine that your asshole gets bigger but I feel like it could get confusing where it is in relation to your butt.  So you waddle up to the toilet, turn around, plop your huge ass on the bowl and pray to god that you hear water once you release.

I’m thinking about running for President with the platform, “Shrink the Bowl.”  Meaning I want all toilet bowls made smaller and forcing fat people to lose weight.   I’m not sure I could win but I wouldn’t be surprised if I picked up about 12% of the US.

Whoring Myself Out

ee8d8916bbfe1b088d83fc26f1680f0d7feb515be803ce64165ca6d2386f6827If you notice the right twitter feed, I’ve been posting hot pictures of female celebrities.  Now obviously my 44 Twitter followers don’t take much delight in this but I do it mainly so blog visitors get some cheap thrills.  I don’t know if I will continue doing it but I pick the best celeb pics from Reddit.  For what it’s worth, Barstool was about 12 hours behind me posting the Selena Gomez pic.

Building a website exploiting hot female celebs isn’t the best way to gain followers but I think we can all agree that at this point, my material isn’t getting it done.  I’ll take some short cuts along the way if I have to.  This is in no way below me and blog traffic has been steadily climbing after a pull back which is nice to see.  Besides it’s worth a try.

I heard Donald Trump on Howard Stern recently and he said that one of his gifts was being able to find the best out of everything.  Food.  Hotels.  Golf Courses.  Being able to spot the best is a talent.  Hopefully my talent for spotting the best female celeb pics will gain me ultimate creep status.  These girls are getting younger and younger too. Or I’m getting older and older.  I think it’s both.

My Herb Kohl Story

Herb

Herb

Herbert H. “Herb” Kohl (born February 7, 1935) is an American businessman and politician. He is a former United States Senator from Wisconsin and a member of the Democratic Party. He is also a philanthropist and the former owner of the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association.

In April of this year, he sold the Milwaukee Bucks for $550 million dollars after buying them for $18 million in 1985. He hit the news recently by giving former employees of the Bucks checks that range from $500 – $100,000 dollars. My story goes back about 25 years.

Groovin'

Groovin’

When I was a little guy, my dad had season tickets to the Sixers. We sat in row G by the half court line and the opposing team would have seats for their fans in 2 of the nearby rows. My parents would tell me to “be little” and I’d act like a baby going through the line to get in for free. I don’t know the exact date, probably close to 1985, when Herb bought the team so I was 3 or 4. I must have charmed his pants off with my little kid swagger because he asked my parents for their address. A few weeks later an autographed ball with every Milwaukee Bucks player arrived as a gift from Mr. Herb Kohl.

I think I was a moron and ended up playing with the ball as the years went on but I remember the ball vividly. To think how a team owner would go out of his way to send a Sixers fan’s child an autographed ball was an awesome gesture. Hell, I’m blogging about it 25 years later. These are the type of people that the world needs more of. Herb Kohl is an generous, kind person. I wonder how many other little kids he’s touched. Scratch that last sentence.

Do the Opposite of What I Write!

I was a finance major who has done nothing but lose money trying to make money.  I’ve essentially gotten so sick of losing money, that I don’t play the game anymore (somewhat of a lie).  I’ll make sure this doesn’t get too boring and also try to incorporate some basic numbers.  Only term you need to know is market capitalization (#of shares x share price)  which is an indicator for how valuable the company is.

Starbucks vs Dunkin Donuts

Dunkin vs Starbucks

Dunkin Donuts vs Starbucks

I’m a Dunkin man myself and their coffee is addictive.  They serve a bunch of other items like donuts, bagels, and breakfast items but it’s a coffee company pure and simple.  There are 10,083 Dunkin’s out there and are relatively unheard of on the west coast.  They have a market cap of 4.84 Billion dollars with a nice 20% profit margin, and has shown a steady 100+ million dollars of net income over the past 3 years..  Franchising plays a part that I’m a bit unaware of in how this valuation occurs.  Much room for growth.

Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse in America with 23,187 stores.  I’ve never visited one personally so I can’t claim to have any knowledge of the company other than it’s overpriced, they have odd cup name sizes, and they write your name on your drink.  SBUX has a market cap of 59.18 billion and has a 1% profit margin while not making a dime last year.  It should be noted they show net income of over a billion dollars in 11′ and 12′.

Debt to Equity ratios differ amongst the companies but unless I’m missing something, a company with half as many stores is valued at 5B instead of 30B.  I’d bet on Dunkin @ 45.51 from today’s trading.

Facebook vs Twitter

TwitvsFB

Twitter vs Facebook

The battle of social media.  I’m pretty familiar with both products here considering I use them daily.  I  would never click on an ad by either company.  I’ve ran a marketing campaign with Facebook and it was a bad experience.  I’ve seen ads on Twitter but unless you are a huge corporation, who would use it?  Gaining followers on Twitter is also a major negative of the company.  The power of these companies the amount of people who use them.  The potential value of eyeballs on information is usually difficult to quantify.

FB has a market cap of 166 billion dollars compared to TWTR of 22 billion.  FB has 12 billion in cash sitting on the sideline with no debt, 21% profit margin on revenue, and made 1.4 billion in 13′.  Twitter has a 2 billion dollars of cash vs no debt but operates at a loss (-600 million last year).

Facebook is substantiating themselves by making money while Twitter hasn’t been able to prove that it can.  I find Twitter to be the more engaging company and expect more people to start using it as time goes on.  Celebrities aren’t making messages through Facebook, they tweet.  Once Twitter starts making money, I see that market cap jumping to a more reasonable number closer to FB or at least doubling in the next 5 years.  Buy Twitter at $38.

Verizon vs AT&T

VZ_vs_ATT_3G_coverage

Verizon domination of wireless coverage

I use Verizon on a regular basis.  They are my ISP for work and I rely on the hardwired phones on a daily basis.  The service for work is top notch.  I also have my cell phone through them and I have no complaints aside from negotiating for a new phone when I break mine.  I don’t know much about AT&T but I hear call dropping in remote areas can happen but I think that’s everywhere.  Notice the map to the right, I get the feeling that Verizon service overall is much better.

The market cap of Verizon is 202B vs AT&T of 185B.  The two heavyweights of our wireless generation.  Verizon has 122 million subscribers vs 116 million for AT&T.  Verizon produced 4.8B dollars of net income last year and AT&T produced 18B.   Verizon operates at an 11% profit margin and has 109B dollars of debt.   AT&T has a 14% PM and 80B of debt.  They both offer high dividends (4%+) and have sporadic competition.

Judging by the numbers, I think I’d put my money in AT&T (for that awesome year last year0, although to be honest, I wouldn’t because I think the market is going to crash and it doesn’t matter what the numbers say, everything will be a bad investment.
