All Aboard

By |2011-05-04T08:34:21-04:00May 4th, 2011|My Life|0 Comments

The Shee and I went golfing yesterday at Pennsauken Country Club. He had off and I left work at about 2:45 to get a round in. We usually don’t cross the bridge to NJ to play these courses so it was a first time for both of us. The rate was 43 dollars which was excessive for a 3:30 tee time on a weekday but w/o a cart was only 25. The course was less then 6,000 yards and relatively short. I would say the condition was one notch above terrible. I really can’t recommend this course to anyone and wouldn’t mind never playing it again. It’s one of those courses that brings you down to its level. I think on one hole I hit from a brown piece sod, mud, a pine cone, and then rock hard dirt. It doesn’t bother me if the course has thick rough as long as it’s grass but I mind hitting out of these other conditions that just make for awkward golf. I finished 96 but even that score is illegitimate because I had two holes where I couldn’t put 2 drives in play and instead of hitting 5 from the tee box, I dropped hitting 5 where my 2nd drive went out. Even with the below average course, the Shee and I had a pretty good time and I’ll try to incorporate some afternoon rounds more often.

If you follow my blog closely you’ll know I said to buy the stock MOBI. I got in at 7 bucks, it ran to 22 dollars, and now is back down to $13.50. The stock is a real roller coaster and I wish I would have jumped off at the 22. Instead I’ve been swinging around a thousands of dollars a day because it’s been dropping 20+% for the last 2 days. At only a 2k investment I’m certainly getting plenty of action. I can also no longer recommend this stock as people are claiming the accounting is funky. They have a conference call today to explain what is going on so hopefully that is some good news. When stocks start swinging like this you wonder what you have gotten yourself into.

In the biggest news of this post, Sirius (another stock I own, has risen above 2) changed their entire music lineup. They think they are doing something great by re-organizing the channels but it is really just complicating my life. Alt-Nation is 36 not 47, the 20 on 20 is now 3 which doesn’t even make sense. This has a major impact on my life and now I’m in the music abyss swapping from station to station hoping to find a good song. I feel like just telling people we are swapping wouldn’t be as good as somehow creating an option of staying with the old lineup.

In less exciting news and I’m not sure why I always have to comment on my breakfast habits, I can’t figure out why I can’t get a fresh bagel each morning. Sometimes its stale and sometimes it’s perfectly fresh. I just want to express my opinion on the importance of quality control and how stale bagels shouldn’t be served to customers. I think I may be doing a disservice to the establishment by not bringing this to managements attention. People and companies constantly benefit from feedback (the way this blog would…) and I feel like I should help. As a customer, I’d also give this one guy, whose name wouldn’t fit in the remaining space, a raise because he is the best employee by far. This should also be noted to management and I’m considering giving him a nice tip to support his good customer service.

Birthday

By |2011-05-02T23:46:36-04:00May 2nd, 2011|My Life|0 Comments

The birthday of this blog is May 2nd, 2009. I sort of stumbled on this fact at 11:37 on May 2nd but still I’m writing this entry at the last minute. I want to post a picture of stats of the site and the journey that it’s been. Click on it to see a clearer picture.

Nearly 20,000 visitors over a 2 year period isn’t too shabby. You can see I virtually got no traffic for the first year and half and then I hit a spike, and now I’m dwindling back down to just the people who like to read this blog. I’m sure I’ve developed a couple of occasional readers here and there to go along with my loyal following of lurkers. I still haven’t broke through to the big time but you can see that my posts per month have been dramatically increasing and I hope that I at least provide some form of entertainment. It’s still difficult to drag comments from the shadows but it’s something I will continue to work on in the future. Hopefully this next year will be better than the last and this trend will continue. Any thoughts on which posts you like to read or what you find interesting is always appreciated. I will try to cater to the audiences needs because that’s really who I’m writing for.

Jkash made mention that he liked my older “journal” posts (from the vault) because that was a more honest me then me knowingly creating content for readers. I’m pretty much an open book with this blog and don’t hide very much so I like to think that my honesty is something that you can continue to count on. If people can’t believe what you write or say, you really have no integrity. I just wanted to write this post to give you an idea of what I’m looking at and why I continue to keep this site for nothing other then personal reasons. Thank you all for reading.

The most annoying things

MARIAH CAREY HAD TWINS!!!! I’m not sure what the big deal is with this Osama guy but Mariah should be the real news story. It sort of feels like any story other then Osama doesn’t really have any significant meaning. I will however ramble on (nice Led Zeppelin reference used appropriately) with my own shenanigans in this post.

This happens to me so frequently that I had to express my frustration. When I get out of the car, I turn the keys off with my right hand. Now most of the time I have my phone in my right pocket and I’ve learned that you can’t have your phone and keys in the same pocket because the key can potentially go through the screen. I learned this the hard way when I put a golf tee through the screen of my Blackberry. Now I have a Droid with an even bigger screen which poses a greater problem so I’m consciously aware of this dilemma. Anyway, now my keys are in my left pocket and let’s just say I go to wawa and buy some coffee and a sandwich. If I leave the store and hold the coffee and bag with my left hand, it forces me to reach into my left pocket with my right hand and the jean pockets are always really small, tight, and angled (just like cwands) and makes it almost impossible to get out (just like cwands). I know this sounds retarded but it happens to me on a daily basis and it bothers me almost every day.

To the nitwit who can’t put on a coffee lid, you have the ability to ruin my day. I know it’s difficult to tell if the lid is on properly but this is your profession. This should be your #1 priority if this is your job. The fate of an entire day lies in your hands and with great power comes great responsibility. I strongly believed that there should be a screening process for this job and it’s not as simple as people think. The ensuing events of not having a coffee lid on properly can be devastating.

To cap off this post I will give an example of something that happened during golf yesterday. It was me, Bake and Ck4 and we were playing with a guy from Tennessee who was a decent golfer. On hole 11 he took a piss in the woods and came out by saying that he hates it when he takes a leak and dribbles piss all over his pants when he’s finishing up. I look at his crotch and he indeed had a spot of piss. Considering this has happened to me before I certainly wasn’t judging but I like the way he handled it. By pointing out the situation he made certain that everyone was aware of what happened and how we wouldn’t secretly notice and think he was a tard for not knowing how to piss. Zipping up too early is indeed a tough part about being a guy. The dribbling process can take a few moments and the impatient type are going to get piss on their pants more often then not. Just another word from the wise.

Matt “Bake” Baker

By |2016-10-28T15:58:50-04:00May 1st, 2011|My Brain|1 Comment

Jess Baker gave me this idea of a player profile and I’ll at least give it a try. If you find this post to be amusing please let me know and I’ll keep on doing them. I figure I’ll start with the Team Captain. He’ll hate that I’m doing this to but I just get excited when I think about who’s coming up in the pipeline.

I’d like to think that we probably wouldn’t have any teams, in any league, if it wasn’t for Matt Baker. Probably the most responsible out of all team members, he has the ability to field a team for just about every sport. When he’s not giving out investment advice during his nine to five, he’s filling every free minute with some extracurricular activity whether it be these social sports leagues, coaching little kids, volunteering, or earning whatever degree he’s getting next. A class act on and off the field and probably the most modest person I know, I strongly believe Bake is the reason for whatever success we have in these leagues.

Bake doesn’t wow anybody with his physical attributes. He’s not the fastest or the strongest guy on the field or court but he plays the games better then most. Unlike some other people on the team, Bake will never jump down your throat for making a bad play and makes it enjoyable to be on his team. He’s probably too hard on himself as well but I think that’s what makes people better then others. I don’t mean to downplay his physical abilities either because he wouldn’t be as good as he is if he were an out of shape goon.

He led our bunch of misfits football team to a league championship in our first year in the league. As the QB, I think he managed the game better then every other Q. Yes he makes some stupid passes every now and then but knowing when to run for firsts and when to throw to a girl isn’t the easiest of tasks. I know the competition is iffy but without a good QB you aren’t winning games in any league. I don’t care what CK4 says but he isn’t going to be a better QB then Bake.

On the baseball field it’s harder to differentiate yourself but I think it’s fair to say Bake can play anywhere on the field well. He even pitched last game which is pretty impressive if you never have done it before. I know if that were me being told to pitch I would be all over the place and it would just get ugly. I also learned from Bake that hitting to opposite field is the best way to get hits and probably won’t ever hit to left field again. Teams put their worst fielders in right so why not try to hit it to them. Bake sets the lineups and is essentially the coach so I think the team might be in disarray without him.

I’ve played in a few basketball league with Bake and basketball leagues are tougher to win. Bake’s got a good shot and plays the game well. Ck4 would be quick to say that he’s not clutch but I’d trust him with big shots. We are relatively competitive with Baker on the court and I can’t think of many circumstance we’d ever be better off without him.

I know it seems like I’m on Bake’s nuts and can’t contain my enthusiasm for his athletic prowess but I just want everyone who reads this to understand what Bake brings to the table. Not only do you get the organization and responsibility, but you get an athlete to help you win leagues. For some traits that make Matt Baker human. I think he gets distracted really easily. He was driving and talking on the phone at the same time and completely forgot to get off at the exit. He’s complete garbage at driving. His dance moves are suspect at best. JKash and I know that he’s full of misinformation. You just assume that if it’s coming from Bake’s mouth that it must be true but that’s not always the case. His needling of Ck4 shows that he derives pleasure from messing with special cases. His choice of music is pretty funny and the “new” songs he likes have usually been on the radio for 6 months. To close though, Matt Baker doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and is an all around good guy and good athlete. Bake you have my blogs stamp of approval. Feel free to add any tidbits in the comments section.

Nothing Doing

By |2011-05-01T10:15:07-04:00May 1st, 2011|My Life|1 Comment

I titled this post nothing doing because I’ve heard the phrase before and it just means doing nothing but sounds funnier. I spent this weekend sober and had a relatively good time. I was awake at 8am yesterday morning and today I was up at 9, had breakfast, and am now writing an entry. I plan to go to the range, go to the gym, and play a round of golf all in a single day. It’s a much appreciated day compared to waking up at noon feeling like death. I did do a couple of things over this lazy weekend though that were of some entertainment.

Friday night no one was around and I sat home and watched Million Dollar Baby which I thought was a pretty good movie. I feel like Clint Eastwood grimaces too often but the ending almost brought a tear to my eye. On Saturday we had a softball game at 11am and I went to the batting cages earlier just to make sure I could hit because I haven’t played since last summer. Coming off of a broken ankle I wasn’t even sure I could run properly but we had exactly 10 and I pretty much had to play.

Our usual pitcher, Gusto, was buying a car?! and Bake was the fill in for pitcher. The game started off with us looking like a little league team in the field. Missed tags, dropping the ball on a force, and other little errors which cost us 3 runs. We then scored 2 in the 1st with Bake hitting a perfect hooking triple down the right field line. The inning ended abruptly with Kope pulling a Gusto and leaving first base before contact was made by the batter. They scored another run in the second on some more sloppy play by us. The next inning I got on with a single, Christine behind me flied out and then Chuck D blasted a 2 run shot over the right fielders head to even the game. The play at the plate was way closer then it should have been due to a winded Chuck D running the bases. Some baseball was played until the 4th inning where Tim, in front of Jess Holland, walked, which loaded the bases for me. Big players make big hits and I hit a pop up to right field and was casually jogging down the first base line. Little did I know that I’ve been hitting the gym and the ball carried over the right fielders head and I got on my horse to hit my first career grand slam. Even running on a broken ankle I had the wheels to touch em all. That opened the game 9-6 and built us a cushion where we didn’t look back. We tacked on some more runs here and there and finished winning 13-8. Brian made a ridiculous catch in left center for the final out which could have been trouble. Bake’s pitching was a bit suspect and he walked a few more batters then I’m sure he would have liked but we came away with the victory on a brisk spring day. And Bake if you read this, keep me batting in between girls because the fielders play me like a schlub which can only help my stats.

After that I helped JKash move his stuff out of his apt in Manayunk into a storage unit in Montgomeryville. JKash and I get along pretty well and the move went off without a hitch aside from the one incident where we were moving his dresser. He was like “tilt it back so the drawers don’t come out.” No problem. Then he was like let’s put it on it’s back. So I’m like “uhhh, which is the back and as I was thinking about that the dresser tilted forward and the drawers fell out. He was acting quietly upset but the dresser is a 40 dollar POS from Ikea and I probably did him a favor ruining the drawers. In a non-gay way I really do like Jkash and we have a good friendship. I also like Amber, his gf, who makes me feel funnier then Seinfeld because she laughs at anything even remotely funny. After that I went home and took a sleep for a little while. I woke up and didn’t feel like going out so I watched deliverance which was a 4 star movie but I think should have been 1 star. I am writing up an entry on my other page. So it was a pretty uneventful weekend and I should have a golf update later today. Also on a Jess Baker suggestion, I will be posting player spotlights on these pages on the future so keep a look out and let me know if you like them.

@rnningfool is now a part of twitter. I actually opened an account years ago but never used it. This is purely experimental and I have been anti-tweet for a long time. I personally don’t know what to expect from twitter but I’m pretty honest that I try anything popular. I’ve read Harry Potter, watched Twilight, listen to Gaga, and now I’m going to start tweeting. I’m a band wagon junkie. I think having an open mind is important to success. What kind of success? Well I can’t really answer that but I’m sure that establishing a twitter following certainly couldn’t hurt my blog traffic. Call me a sell out but I’ll see if I can amuse an audience on twitter. Who knows, maybe I’ll even enjoy it. I also don’t understand the @ part at all.

Back due to popular demand.

1. A rich old lady died and left a precious diamond to her family, but first they had to find it. She gave them a clue: “It is inside a cylinder surrounded by a thousand squares.” Where did she hide it?

2. You have a dime and a dollar; you buy a dog and a collar. The dog is a dollar more then the collar. How much is the collar?

3. I have keys without locks. I have space without rooms. I can be entered, but you can’t come in, even though I’m your type. What am I?

Maturation

By |2011-04-28T22:34:50-04:00April 28th, 2011|My Brain|0 Comments

No that is not meant to be masturbation. I’m just going to write about the last 4 entries I transcribed and hope to give people an idea of how I view myself 3 years ago. I honestly hope that the people who read those past few entries can get a good idea of how stupid I was and how you don’t want to be like me. Now, I’m still pretty stupid but I have matured so much since 3 years ago. First of all, I was so careless with my money. I want to make sure everyone is aware that the market was near it’s peak around this time and I had no idea what I was getting into when I was buying stocks. My basic philosophy was everything goes up and the market is a great place to make money. Once 08′ hit and I got a large chunk of money wiped away, you start to wise up and realize that maybe this game isn’t as easy as it seems.

I also notice how much money I would spend at on sports gambling and casinos. This is somewhat of a sad thing to write but I was making way more money back in 07′ then I am now. That’s sort of what comes with running your own family business, that when the revenue takes a hit, you aren’t a salary employee and your pay goes down with the sales. I’ve pretty much wiped out casinos and sports betting 3 years later. I still will do it but not nearly to the extent of my younger days. I was really a wild man. I had no appreciation of money but that was the situation I was in for that time. I just read these entries and shake my head about how dumb I was.

I also think it’s funny how I thought I was in such good shape physically. Modern day TC would blow younger TC out of the water. I have a better mentality now towards training and staying in shape then I did then. My near 60 time in the 10 miler came in 09 which was when I was getting serious about training. For some reason I seemed to get more motivated as the years progress to beat old times. Mainly that just comes from doing more work and I have all the time in the world to make it happen.

The great thing is though that at 27 I have all that experience. I’m able to share all that information with you through my blog so you can get a good idea of what I’ve been through. The great thing about it all is that after reading some of those posts, I can tell that I was heading no where fast. I really feel that I’m starting to pull my life together. I have countless stories and ridiculous experiences but this as you can tell, I wasn’t this reflective when I was 24. I’ve really grown a lot and I feel that inside of me. It’s one of those things that you can’t be the best person you can be without going through some bad times. I’ve had quite a few bad times both financially and physically and I believe I’m starting to come through. I actually laugh at myself after reading these old posts because it was still me back then, and I just look at things from a different point of view now. It’s really a pretty cool thing. I also think it’s funny that I really haven’t changed all that much and still do some of the same shenanigans. Now I just know I’m moron where as back then, I thought it was the cool thing to do.

From the Vault Part 4

By |2011-04-28T22:19:54-04:00April 28th, 2011|My Brain|0 Comments

Taken verbatim over 3 years ago.
12/12/07
Woke up at 8:30. Excused from Jury Duty. Showered, cleaned, watch the Dow pop 250 points after plummeting 300 yesterday. Sold intal at 27.50 after buying yesterday at 26.95. Got to work about 10:30. Normal day at work. Went to the gym, lifted a little, then ran 4 miles in 23:57. After that I watched Cramer, market finished +50 for the Dow. Cramer says tech in in, expect a recession. Went shopping for Holiday presents, came back, lost 130 on Orlando vs Milwaukee. Started reading Atlas Shrugged. Dan Patrick is on late night, awesome show.

I feel like a beast physically, strongest I’ve ever been. I feel like something is missing in my life. Some substance. What is it all for? Work all your life for what? Socially I’m not satisfied either. All I do is get too drunk and pass out, then feel lousy for the weekend. It’s hard to get excited for tomorrow when tomorrow is just a routine like many days before. I’m far from depressed because I’m so grateful for what I have. Internet is down, what a difficult place w/o the net.

12/17/07
Didn’t write over the weekend. Probably will be the trend. Bought 400 shares of palm at 5.50, earnings tomorrow. EMC down to 18.5, -175. Market has been getting killed. Probably a good buying opportunity. Went to court today. Larry got me out of the public intoxication with a 175 and a 3 hour lecture, it’s a relief. Business is in the year end process, made about ?? this year, a lot for being 24. Time to stop gambling my loot, haven’t bet since last Thursday. Weekend was pretty funny, still reading Atlas Shrugged. Going to Vegas with the fam on Fri. Should be entertaining to say the least. Didn’t run today because of shin splints (pussy). Still need some Christmas presents. Not a big deal, I’ll get them.

12/18/07
Woke up at 5:30 since I went to sleep at 8:30 last night. Earnings for Palm came out today. Stock was up 5%, bad earnings dropped 11%. I should have a stop loss, poor investing mistake. I have to learn from it. Reading Atlas a lot, still good bout pg 350. Work is winding down, next year I vow to make more profitable. Weak workout at gym. 19:30 to run 3 miles. Felt slightly sick with shin splints. Hot girl at gym I see a lot. Probably should start a convo. Looking at houses in Hills top in Manayunk, East Falls. Tomorrow is another day, it’s only money. Still haven’t gambled.
