Dirt Nap

So I took a dirt nap literally on Saturday night. Jeff and his band of cronies thought it was a hilarious move to put a “plant” in my bed. Apparently Steve was giving me flowers. Well they uprooted this plant and I woke up on Sunday morning like “why the hell is there a plant in my bed.” I actually think it’s pretty funny and even though my tone would make you think I was mad, I really don’t care except that last night I was sleeping on dirt. That was Saturday night and Jeff and his friends got introduced to the Mad River / Mind Eraser combo that leads to blackouts all around. I remember being at the bar til close and Jeff said that he saw me leave and get into a cab while they ended up walking home which I thought was pretty comical. It shows how concerned I am for other people. I’m sure their journey home was pretty interesting consider there’s a little, tiny, fold em up, chair in our living room. That was a pretty fun night and Friday was sort of a blur.

I got my tooth in on Saturday morning which went off without a hitch. After the dentist we had our football game. Primetime was back and firing on all cylinders which was nice. It’s hilarious because the other teams all have matching shirts and receiving gloves and we show up not knowing what color shirt we are going to wear. We are either blue or white and Evan wears this bright yellow fluorescent shirt which mystifies me a little bit but it must be some reverse psychology in being so identifiable the defense for gets about them. The game was a blow out from the beginning. We started playing a zone defense for the first time and we our holes were much less severe. CK4 lapsed in the zone on one of their first possessions and they scored their only TD. I think we ended with 35 points or so and we pretty much just shut down their offense. I got my 2nd pick of the year and should have been dancing in the end zone but the chump got me at the one. 1 pick could get lucky, 2 could be a fluke, but any more and there is a new island being named. It’s much more fun to win these games then to lose.

My fantasy teams should be 3-1 this week and even a chance at 4-0 if Sanchez and LT get 40+ points. The Turkey’s haven’t officially won but I’m up with 3 guys going and a lead vs Dustin Keller. That’s poised for a 150 week which should be big enough to give me the #1 spot in the league over the She(e)(e). The Nuts beat Bake as long as the Jets don’t give up tons of points. The Mind Erasers also pulled off a solid victory to move me to 3-2 and a winning record in all 4 leagues. I even made some money yesterday with a nice pick of Detroit, Oakland, and the Eagles moneyline. This puts me up about 150 for the season finishing out week 5. This blog is my record keeping for my sports bets so accuracy is in tact.

I didn’t get to watch my TV but I’ll probably catch up and post tonight. I did watch Dexter but I’ll save it for another post because I’m sure everyone cares about my opinions.

Ambler Bball and emotions

Quick bball paragraph because I can’t go into too much detail. We walk in the lobby and there are 8 black guys sitting on the bench and my first thought is “shit.” The one guy was 6-5 and we don’t have any size so we thought we could be in trouble. As it turns out these guys must have missed all their practices as youths. They were pretty awful and we weren’t much better and still beat them by 15+. We literally missed, I’d guess 20 easy layups and another 20 shots. We could have had 100 points if we were any good. Ck4 said he was 2-11 and I was probably 2-12 and I don’t think I took a shot outside the paint. Bud was our saving grace as I think his shooting % was above 50. I know we are playing bad when I come to the bench and say “wow I suck,” and get consoled by Jess Baker saying “you’re not that bad.” Anytime a girl has to tell you you aren’t bad and she’s just saying it to be nice, you know you must be playing pretty bad. I may be exaggerating a tad, but seriously it’s only a tad. I air-balled a foul shot to give you an idea of how bad it was. If we played anyone decent, this would not have been such a lopsided victory.

On a tangent, I was thinking the other day that I seem to lack the fundamental emotions like being sad because something bad happened or getting excited because something should be fun. What I mean is that I try to stay pretty even keeled and not let emotions get in the way of what I’m feeling. Some examples, and these aren’t the best, but I was listening to sports radio and a caller was saying how “pissed off” he was that the Eagles lost. Uhh, who cares and how does this affect you? People are getting nuts over the Phillies and their playoff games. Why am I getting thrilled about a baseball game? Do these things actually make people happy when their sports teams win? I contribute nothing to the outcome so it’s the same result whether I see it or not and I just don’t have any emotion whatsoever towards sports. Consider something like our bball game, if we lost I would care more about that but that would literally be for a minute after the game and then I’m moving on because I’m not going to get worked up over recreation sports.

This sort brings me to people looking for other people and the emotional attachment that comes with it. Throughout my life I’ve had a lot of people I can call my friends. I always thought I was pretty nice to people so people tended to be nice to me and that in turn develops friendships. Now that relating to my lack of emotional scale, throughout my life I probably don’t talk to the majority of the friends I’ve developed over my lifetime. It’s not like I stopped liking the person, I just probably didn’t see any reason to continue the friendship whether it be to geography or just because. I feel like people have this “I’m going to go out of my way to maintain this friendship” and I just think I don’t. It’s never anything personal either I just sort of always feel like I should make it on my own and didn’t really need anyone to help. As you get older you sort of regret the time that you could have spent because as time moves, people grow apart. I just think of areas I could improve on and this for whatever reason comes to mind.

Bball & Driving

Chalk up another victory for the Ambler Y Bball team. There is no one else to thank other than Matt Baker for this victory. He came to play and probably scored about 30 of our 48 points. The other team consisted of some guys from Wissahickon who we’ve played a few times before. Neither team really had a center and we could really use some height because our offense lived and died on the 3 ball but fortunately Bake drained about 7 or so, I honestly lost count. It was a pretty good game actually and had some tense moments towards the end. Only one ref showed and he had a tendency to blow the whistle after the foul was committed and he liked to make calls from opposite ends of the gym. Ck4 started to give him some lip with a few seconds to play and he told Chad to stop crying and then he made some irrational point how we weren’t getting the calls because we were only shooting jumpers but that had nothing to do with the hacks that were occurring in the end game. Bottom line is we won 48-47 in a tough win but if we have to rely on that hot shooting every game, no offense to Bake, but he shot the lights out.

It’s already 1am now and I woke up at 7 so I’m about ready to call it a night. Things have been pretty tame for me recently but I’ve been having this crazy feeling when I’m driving that I’m either going to hit someone or someone is going to hit me. Now I pride myself on my first rate driving ability but I just see maniac after maniac, day after day, pulling stupid shit that it’s just bound to happen. When it was summer time, the roads were much less crowded but now with school back in session, people are just everywhere. I’m not trying to be a doomsayer but more people on the road = more idiots to get into accidents. I also feel like I miss out on sleep during the weekends because even though I get a full 8 hours, it’s drunk sleep and not sleep sleep. So I was really tired today and tired driving is honestly one of the worst, most dangerous things to do. I obviously don’t make a habit of it but if you work a job, this situation is unavoidable. Good luck on the road out there. Oh and all my Fantasy Teams held this week except for one.

To keep the rambling going and this is something that I’m sure people are aware of but probably don’t pay much attention to. If you give someone your blackberry messenger pin and it looks like 1a2b3c0O this can get confusing so let’s just do a quick tutorial. Number 0, Letter O. This actually comes up more often than you think and now you know that the letter is wider and the number skinnier.

Another Weekend

So I’ll start with our Football game as I find these to be pretty easy to write about and I think they have decent entertainment value. Let me start with the phrase “appearance’s can be deceiving.” The team we played were all white and didn’t seem all that athletic, that is until on the first play one of their guys burned Bake down the field for a TD. So it was one play into the game and they were up 7-0. I don’t really need to break it down possession by possession but the bottom line is that we got dominated by a physically inferior team who played the game much better than us. Our defense is atrocious and, in my opinion, it’s due to poor matchups and the unknown of where our safety’s should play (if we should even have safeties). I’ve made the point that everyone likes to play safety because they have no responsibilities and it just doesn’t work. I guess my thought is to think that we can implement a zone in the first season, without any practice is a complete joke, and if we put our best coverage guys on their best players, rather than just pick a guy to cover, it might be helpful. Also to note is I would have had a TD but I let Jess Baker take whatever little glory was left considering it was the end of the game and we were down 40-20 or so. Considering it’s just a fun league though, I really don’t get too worked up over any of it.

My fantasy games went ok and I have a few riding on tonights action. The Turkey’s should move to 3-0 if Greg Jennings get’s less than 33 points in our PPR league. The Nuts are a slight dog, I think, because I’m only up 16 points with Jennings and Green Bay’s D but it’s no PPR. The Terminators are a toss up with me being up 50 points but up against 5 players in tonight’s game. And the Mind Erasers put up a good number but have no chance of winning. On the wagering front, I moved on with a Colt victory in the Eliminator and have lost exactly 0 dollars for the season with all my bets. I have little urge to re-deposit and consider it a job well done to have lost no money in 3 weeks.

I watched a load of TV yesterday because I felt awful from the weekend. I pretty much should give up alcohol but since Riverpalooza is this Saturday, this isn’t going to be the weekend. CK4 and I are running a ticket racket again so if you need some tickets, I can probably save you a buck or two. Back to TV though, I watched Family Guy, Eastbound and Down, Boardwalk Empire, and Dexter on Sunday night and I’ll give my quick opinions on each just because.

It’s apparent to me that Family Guy has come a long way in the past 10 years. Sunday’s episode was the Season Premier. The graphics on the show are a significant upgrade to how I remember and I was sort of surprised to see the show like that. If you watch a lot of episodes maybe you’ll know what I mean because it had a different feel to it. Brian and Stewie steal the show for me though and I didn’t find a huge amount of laughs but I still find the show amusing. Stewie and the outfit had me rolling and the Peter / Lois interaction was great especially with the hot wheels.

Eastbound and Down struck out for me. They relied on peculiar characters to try to win the audience over and it was sort of lame. I didn’t really think anything was all that great but I liked when Kenny was talking about Big Red and how “Aaron,” a hilarious name by the way, had the nerve to rob him during Big Red’s funeral. I liked when he referred to Hector as “Mice and Men” and the donkey picture taking scene was pretty funny. The baseball closing was dumb I thought. The show didn’t live up to the hype in my mind.

I find Boardwalk Empire to be a quality show. Steve Buscemi as Nookie? is just really fine acting. Not too much is happening but I think they are setting up a lot of story lines and I like where the show is going. They have a lot of strange shaped tits too.

Dexter premiere aired too and I don’t think they knocked it out of the park with the premier but, once again, it’s a lot of setting up story lines. Rita off the show is obviously a bummer but I’m sure it won’t take away too much. I thought Dexter’s acting throughout the episode was unusual. I know he’s supposed to be acting weird but it just seemed weirder on another level. The kill scene seemed forced too but I guess they were just showing what type of emotional level Dexter was at. I thought that Astor did the best acting in the episode when she was crying and yelling at Dexter. Sucks it’s a week to week show but at least it’s an hour.

I’ll have another post tonight depending on the outcome of our bball game so tune in.

Actually something to write about

This is a very long post that I just left in one post even though I could have spread it over many posts. This will take you a while to read and will kill 5-10 minutes and it’s probably not worth the time to read it but do as you wish.

So I have quite a few topics to go over and many people to comment on. I had a sober weekend which has given me the energy on a Monday to put together a legitimate blog post. Sometimes I wonder if people like my random thoughts about random topics of if they like the stuff that I have going on in my life. I tend to think people don’t really care that much about what happens to me in RL but they are amused by what I think about topics. This however will be about things in my life that probably bore people but it’s my blog and I can write about whatever I want. I’m going to sum up some weekend events and bring it full circle to how my Monday ended up.

Since I didn’t drink on Friday, I was fresh to play touch football with a bunch of friends who decided to join the Manayunk league. We get to the field a little early and see that we are up against 6 black kids and some athletic girls who I must say were a tad bit intimidating considering this was our first game ever of football as a team. I don’t know about anyone else but this was the first organized football game I’ve played since, well, ever. The great thing about football is that it’s not that complicated and as long as you can run and catch, you should be ok. I think we have 8 people on the field at one time and we have 12 on the team so we sort of have shifts of subs. I mainly played defense but unlike some others on the team, this is perfectly acceptable to me as I could care less about scoring touchdowns. “Certain” people love that end zone. To make a long story short, the black QB had stereotypical black QB attributes and was fast as lightning but his passing accuracy was a bit suspect. I picked him off the first drive which should give you an idea how bad he was. He literally threw it to me and all I had to do was the Smalls catch from Bennie (Sandlot reference for the slow). With Bake at the helm he was lobbing balls up in the middle of the field that were unbelievably (to me) being caught by all components of our team. Jkash even managed to catch one either between his legs or with them. Evan had a couple of scores even though he was wearing a bright yellow shirt that made him impossible to forget to cover but it didn’t seem to matter. Our females dominated theirs and will be productive weapons through the season. The highlight of the game was the Shee playing D on one of their guys and after not being passed the ball, one of their guys said something like “man throw me the ball, this guy’s got two left feet!” The bottomline was that, Primetime, came through with a convincing 40 something to 20 something W and they had mostly garbage time points. I forgot to mention that we have the self credited best player in the league in Gusto and I can’t wait to see when our self declared best player meets our player with the biggest ego (CK4). I think we should have some fireworks on the field and I feel bad for Bake who has to deal with two egos that can barely fit on an outdoor field. Should get interesting.

Moving from real football to fantasy football. In Evan’s league, the Turkeys dominated Mo Motycki with the help of Austin Miles, Gates, and A Pete. I know his name is Mike Motycki but people used to call him Mo and I thought that was his first name so I just always thought it was Mo Motycki, so that’s just what I call him. The Mind Erasers wiped the floor with Gerald’s 3 beer race in Steve’s league and that was pretty obvious considering what happened in the real 3 beer race. The Nuts are teabagging their opponent in Baker’s league, although as I’m writing this I’m up 4 points and Brees needs to outscore Bush and Colston which is pretty much a guarantee at this point. And Bill Schmidt blew me out in my other league which I don’t want to go into much detail. I also survived the eliminator with a gimme Packers pick. That’s it for fake football.

I’m going to move right into some TV watching and give my takes on some shows out. I know this is late but the Jersey shore episode was really good. I’m glad they didn’t show much of Sammi and Ronnie. I think Vinnie’s character has really developed. When he was dancing around Angelina and Jose after she told Jose what happened, that was baller. He really seems to have gained a lot of confidence and is pulling some hot tail although his begging for that girl to come out was a bit lame if you ask me. I sort of think if she didn’t want to do it in the first place, why would you want her to go against her will. The Situation has shown no development in the 2 seasons and is still entertaining but what was the deal with him eating a sandwich while Pauly was getting some play. I think Pauly has been a hit with his witty one liners (when he was on the phone with the girl and said I want to bring the girl I love…and you can come too) and he’s pulling some major ass too. I find Snooki and Jwoww to be sort of blah and Angelina was a a great character to bring back. You have to have people who make things happen and she certainly does. I like how she thinks she’s all that and talks so much shit and really has no morals. I told Gusto I thought it was a good show and he said it was trash, but I retorted with it being a good look into the psyche of people of our generation and how they get along. It’s like a human experiment and I find the interactions to be very realistic even though it’s a false reality. There is definite tension among the characters and you can’t fake that.

Boardwalk Empire was interesting. I can see how people may have thought it was a little slow but I also think these are the same people who get excited by flashing lights, explosions, and loud sounds. They have to develop the characters along the entire season and I thought it was a fine intro. Steve Buscemi seems like a pretty good lead in the series and I can’t wait for Omar from the Wire to get involved. Seriously, he was the coolest character out of any series ever. I’ve certainly sat through worse series (Treme). I’ve considered watching Bored to Death again but I really wasn’t enthused after I watched the first two episodes.

We signed up for a Bball team in the Ambler Y and our first game was tonight. This is a fall league and will prep us for the winter. For the first season in 3 or so years, we found a big man. We have a 6-6 guy who is my brothers friend and will actually give us a shot at winning. He actually didn’t play the first game but we won anyway with just 6 people. We won by 15 or so and were never really in any threat of losing. Bake opened the game with a 3 ball and we pretty much never looked back. We didn’t play great but we held them to 12 points in the first half so we didn’t really need to. Jeff and I had some decent chemistry in the second half and the brother connection begins. We also added my old friend Bud Schmidt who is another good addition because we grew up playing together and get along well. Jkash adds the muscle and makes sure to get his fouls in. I have high hopes for our team as we actually have a full roster of people who have played ball before. I know Addashee feels slighted that I didn’t invite him to play and I’m publicly apologizing in my blog. However, the last winter league I asked you to play on, you only tried to play in one game and you were late and then couldn’t find the gym. Oh and I actually attempted two outside shots, both of which I missed but that will not deter me and I intend to keep firing them up.

This concludes the longest post I’ve ever written.

Blog This!

Since I really have nothing interesting going on in my life, fantasy football won me over last night. Jamaal put a hurting some people last night as I rolled through Hafer and ended up tying the Moisturizers. Hafer, Blog This!, if you want to transfer me the money on Full Tilt, I’m happy to give you a chance to win your money back in any heads up action… Also if anyone else wants to place wagers against me in either fantasy football or heads up action, let me know. A thing to note, I hardly believe in tying in fantasy football so to see that 4 of our 12 teams tied in the one league is disappointing when a simple solution is for fraction of points should be tallied. I ended up 2-1-1 for the week among(st) my 4 teams but that was just mostly due to favorable matchups, as I wasn’t near the points lead in any of them.

I finished the week up 20 dollars betting on football games through the weekend. Considering I started up 100 after my first 2 bets, it should be a decent indicator of how not good I am. I got completely lucky on the first 2 picks and then squandered the money on poor bets that weren’t well thought out and pretty much got rocked. The Bengals lost by the 1st qtr and the Cowboys/Over couldn’t have been more wrong. The reality is that there is no easy money in sports betting. This will bring me to the other point, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. There is nothing easy, especially when it comes to making money.

I’ve been feeling a little blah lately with just nothing of any real significance occurring lately. When Doug from Weed’s made the comment “I’m living an insignificant life,” I thought to myself that I bet a lot of people have that feeling. I thought that last nights Weed’s episode was decent but the 25 minute shows are just killer to wait a week for. Back to Doug’s comment, if you have an average paying job that isn’t ever going to make you enough money to really live comfortably, you are going to be constantly working to pay for things and never getting ahead. When people plan to have a wife, start and family, buy a house and all the other … things to a “normal” life, you are just getting yourself into financial responsibilities. I honestly don’t know how people do it. Everything from rings, houses, weddings, kids, car payments, all normal stuff costs money. Now we think of Doug living an insignificant life with no money, no family, and just tending to himself, well things would probably be much harder to live a significant life and have to provide for all the above. As of right now, I can take care of myself but that’s seriously it.

No real point to this other than as you get older you feel the pressure to do these “normal” things but the reality is that, unless you can do them comfortable from a financial standpoint, you are going to spend the rest of your life working and trying to provide. I’m not sure how fun that is. To quote another Weed’s line “I just go home, pray, and play the lottery.”

Sweat

I’m sure Hafer is going to read this so I want to headline with a fantasy football matchup. With 5 players left and trailing by 70 points, I’m sure Hafer thought he had my 50 bucks all wrapped up but then Miles Austin tallied 30+ points to pull me within 40 with 4 to play. My remaning players are my main man Jamaal Charles, Antonio Gates, QB Flacco, and the Jet’s Defense. They certainly have the potential for 40. I think I’m about 50/50 to win and this should guarantee Hafer a nice sweat. On a side note, the Manayunk Moisturizers were able to shut down the Nuts unless Jamaal, the Jets, and Boldin can go for 38 points. I think I have about a 5% chance of winning this one.

I didn’t really do much this weekend except play a lot of poker. I jumped right into some bigger games and was playing the 60-115 Turbo’s and even a 230 Heads up match. I came out on the losing end of the stick a couple hundred but my luck just wasn’t on my side. I have guy in the 230 heads up AI with K6 vs my A8 and after hitting an A and K on the flop, he rivered a 6 to bring my hopes of victory down. Also if BigBadBluff ever reads this, he cost me about 500 dollars this weekend. I literally had him all in with the best of it 4 straight times and couldn’t win once. The guy’s a joke and I read his soul over and over.

Regarding other things over the weekend, the night scene wasn’t much to talk about and we played some football Saturday morning. I don’t really find playing football all that exciting. Plus I have this race coming up which I’m going to bomb due to lack of motivation as I got closer to the date. Oh well, I’ll still be able to do it but any chance at a really good time is out the window. This was a pretty lackluster year for me and 2010 isn’t going down in the memory books for pretty much anything.

CVS, Sun Glare, & Fine

I buy my daily shower stuff at CVS. They always have a lot of brands to choose from and deals on different brands so it keeps things different. Sometimes Old Spice will be a two for 1, or Dial will be knocked down to 3 bucks. Suave is always the cheapest and is my usual go to because I can’t tell the difference between any of them. So I’m standing in front of the selections and Old Spice is 5.49 for some incredible “16 hour staying power.” The Dial is the same price but you get 18 oz instead of 16 oz. And the lowly Suave was a tad under 3. The Nivea was the brand on sale but it was a hair + body wash and I just have this thing that things you use in your hair should be different than soap on your body. So I went out on a limb and chose the Dial for the extra 2 oz’s. I’ve never used the Dial before so I’ll be sure to let you know how it performs. They also had these Arizona Arnold Palmers, 22oz, for $.99! Naturally they were all sold out and I couldn’t get my half and half fix. The half and half has become my drink of choice over any soda or water. I also noticed that this CVS keeps their store at 60 degrees and I walk in and it’s a shot of cold air. I was immediately uncomfortable and was deciding if I really wanted to be cold for the 5 minutes it takes me to get my stuff, but I chose to tough it out.

This part of the yearly cycle brings about ridiculous sun glare on my drive to and from work. I’m a firm believer in no sunglasses and not putting down the sun glare blocker. I’ve wrote before but I don’t understand the blocker because it covers half your windshield and the sun is still right in your face. The sun is so bad that it scares me that someone is going to be crossing the street thinking I’ll see them, but like Judas Priest said “they have another thing coming.” I like to throw in some random music lyrics that people probably have no idea because if you ever get a trivia question who sang the above song, you’ll now know.

I catch myself saying “that’s fine” all the time now and I’m doing my best to use other phrases. Amazingly everyone else uses it too. The phrase is so common place that I’m going to start using ridiculous terms to break it’s popularity. Whenever I find myself in these spots I go to the Thesaurus. Some of the better ones were dandy, swell, peachy, and hunky-dory. I’ll probably just use ok.

It looks like we may be entering a bball team this year without a center once again. If you are 6-4 or bigger and want to play in Ambler, or even know someone who may want to play, it could be helpful. Football starts tonight and I’m deciding whether to add funds to my bodog account. I haven’t made a bet since college bball so it’s been quite a while. I actually bet on the UFC one time since but whose counting. I think I’m leaning towards the points and the under, both of which are going off at -115. I have theorys on the -115, the juice becomes that because more people are betting on them, thus the handicappers offer less payout, and the public is generally wrong, so you should go with the other side. My thoughts are that teams are usually rusty week 1 and unders tend to be the play. I have no data to back my statement up and will leave it as that.

Negativity and lack of knowledge

So I’ve pretty much decided to not listen to anyone’s advice because more often than not, people don’t know jack shit. People might think they know things but there’s a lot of this mis-information out there. The key to life is knowing how sift through the bullshit and know who’s on point compared to those who just like to talk. Everyone likes to talk by the way. I also want to point out that you can also include me in this “who not to take advice from.” I obviously have my own way of doing things and if they don’t work out, I have no one to blame but myself and that’s just the way I like it. When you take others advices you tend to blame them for when it doesn’t work out, which is human tendency to not take the blame. So you have my foreword that I’m no smarter than the rest of you.

I have one example and it pertains to fantasy football. I picked Jamaal Charles and someone commented “what a terrible pick, he’s splitting time with Thomas Jones.” I go to rotoworld.com and read “there is a gaping separation between the two in terms of productivity and talent.” Plus have you watched one pre-season game of Charles or are aware he finished the year with games of 143, 154, 102, and 259 yards? I’ll take my chances that this is going to be a bad pick. So with this person running their mouth, they show their lack of knowledge and combine it with a negativity to make me feel like the idiot. Bad business all around.

Another example of this is I chose a defense with the 74th pick of a 12 team draft. The avg selection of the jets, determined by previous yahoo drafts, was 60. So I’m not the only moron out there and someone chimes in “you’re choosing a defense this early…” like I’m a complete tard. Players that went after my pick were Jacobs, Stewart, Barber, Bradshaw…. The very next round I got Cadillac Williams, a starter for the Bucs and not sharing time. So I’m a tard because I get the top ranked defense and then the very next round get a player whose numbers are going to be comparable to Jacobs, Stewart, Barber, or Bradshaw. This is obviously debatable but if you can predict the future you should be doing something other than picking fantasy football teams. So my point is, what’s the point of opening your mouth and criticizing someone else when it’s all guesswork anyway. If I’m an idiot, let me be an idiot in peace and I’ll lose all my games and you have nothing to worry about.

This relates to poker in the sense that if I win a pot from a total fish, I’m not telling them they are a moron, I’m telling them how great they play and how unlucky they got. Don’t tap the fish bowl is the general motto amongst better players.

The negativity end of things is also prevalent everywhere. People seem to prefer other people to fail, then succeed. When other people fail, it makes them feel better about their own failures. An example is on the golf course, on hole 9 where I would have had a 42 if I par’d in. While on the tee box waiting to hit my drive, I hear my playing partner say “hit it in the water.” Now me and my playing partner are good friends so I don’t mind bringing this to his attention, but I don’t need you rooting against me and hoping for my destruction. If you want to silently hope for that, that’s a-ok but I don’t need to hear it. Now this is slightly different to what Ck4 spazzed out at me about. CK4 had a spaz when he hit a 30 foot putt 10 feet and I pointed out how bad of a putt it was. I completely understand why he wouldn’t want to hear that, I said I was sorry and I wouldn’t do it again. But I’m not hoping he does bad, he just is bad and I’m being a dick and letting him know. On that note I’ve also decided to quit golf for the season because I’m tired of paying 50 bucks to shoot 100. I thought I got over the hump about 3 weeks ago shooting some decent rounds in the 80’s but I’ve proved lately that it was just a mirage.

I also haven’t run since Friday and considering the race is the 19th, that’s not good. I’m going to go for a run today and see how I feel. I thought I was in really good shape but after this little lapse of training, I’m not sure. Other than that though I’ve been squeezing in a lot of poker and final tabled another 180 man tournament last night. I only managed 8th but it just shows that I have the consistency of getting there. Posts like this could limit my friend count but what’s the point of having a personal blog if you can’t be real with it.

That’s Fine

It’s come to my attention that I use the phrase “that’s fine” on a regular basis. I suppose whenever I agree with something it just turns into a “that’s fine.” It’s one of the those things that you don’t realize you do it until someone points it out and then you realize how often you do it. Nothing more to note other than a phrase that becomes stuck in one’s brain. I actually think the phrase is a fine statement. Maybe I’ll start saying “ok”, “no problem”, “for sure”, “no doubt”, or “absofuckinglutely.”

Pretty ho-hum weekend overall. Got wasted on Friday to the point that I was past the normal point of buzzed. Jkash says that I get so wasted because my sober self is shy with talking to girls and the more I drink, the better I get (in my mind). It’s probably a valid point and getting that smashed doesn’t improve any ability with the ladies. The bombing began when Jeff came over and him and I were the main contributors to killing a 1/5 of this Three Olive RangTang vodka which I don’t think I can recommend as a good alcoholic drink. After some mind erasers at the bar, that’s all she wrote. No incidents though so I must have had some sense of wit to me. I’m sure anyone who saw me would argue otherwise.

Saturday was also a pretty standard. We played Bucks County Country Club in the afternoon and I shot an 84 even with being surrounded by some hackers. Ck4 even managed to card a 13 which was a pretty impressive display of ability. Anyone who plays golf would agree that isn’t easy to do. I was pretty much in play all day and was bombing drives down the middle which made the course play a lot easier. I will say however that I almost drove two par 4 greens (one with a 5 iron) so this certainly isn’t the hardest course out there. Ck4 and I also elected to play a nice course on Sunday called Raven’s Claw. It was voted top 10 in PA by some magazine so we went in looking forward to the round. I ended up with a 104 and he ousted me with a 102. 20 shot swing in a day is a bit bizarre but the difference was just keeping the ball in play. I hit some bomb drives but was just ending up in ditches and different areas of the course. The main difference between hacker courses and nice courses is the rough. You can’t hit 200 yard 5 irons out of the rough on this course and the cabbage was just not fun. I did almost drive a 300 yard par 4 again, but alas, only got a par because I’m a tard. The course was really nice though and even though Chad would say he didn’t think it’s that tough, the greens are surrounded by bunkers, plus tons more fairway bunkers and doglegs make it much more difficult. We even had a funny scenario where a guy in our group duck hooked one into a house and broke the guys window. He gave him 40 bucks, but we were all skeptical because no one heard any glass shatter and we thought the guy was pulling a scam.

I know people probably don’t love my golf posts but I really didn’t do much else this weekend so that’s what I write about. I’m looking forward to 5 days of good living and getting in shape for this half marathon the 3rd week of Sept. I get my tooth put in on Thursday so I survived the 3 months of eating only on my right side. All in all, made it out of this weekend alive and feeling well which is a nice change of pace.
