Irritable

Irritable – 1. Having or showing a tendency to be easily annoyed or made angry.

If you couldn’t tell by the previous post or two I’ve been a little out of whack recently. I think I feel like females feel when people joke “must be that time of the month again.” As a guy I really have no idea what that experience is like but I assure you I have no physical reason why I’m using this word to describe myself. Just to give you an idea though of things that are particularly bothering me and the depth of these issues.

I almost freaked today when there was this biker riding his bike in between 4 lanes of traffic merging into two. I had this urge to just open my door and teach the guy a lesson. I’m pretty sure there is a law that says biker’s can’t ride on the sidewalk but bikers are a breed of their own and think they have way more rights then they should. I’m driving a 3 ton vehicle and you are on a 2 wheeled 40 pound bike, these two are completely different modes of transportation and to think that we “share” the road will generally always end up worse for the biker. So after that initial feeling of wanting to off a biker, I then started getting perturbed that people weren’t driving with their lights on. Yes, 100% this started to bother me to the point that I wanted to steer off road and give them a header and then exclaim that I couldn’t see them because they didn’t have their lights on. Today is a cloudy day, not a bright sunny one, and I just believe in lights on all the time except under perfect conditions. Don’t ask me why but I just feel that vehicles moving at lethal speeds should be as identifiable as possible in almost all circumstances.

So after already feeling riled up I was flipping through the radio and heard the new Panic song Ready to Go and I was catching it at the very end for maybe 5 seconds tops. So then this bothered me because I wanted to hear the song and knew that I wouldn’t get my chance til the next visit to my car. Of course I could listen to it at any time I wanted but for some reason the radio not allowing me to listen to the song I wanted to annoyed me. Ck4 actually presented this idea to me years ago but radio dvr seems logical to me.

After that I was listening to Howard and Chris Rock made some reference to Celebrity Apprentice and was saying how he knew his career would be near finished if he felt it was necessary to try to impress Donald Trump on national TV. I mention this because I was going to make an entry on this subject because I was watching the show last night for a little while. First off, I find the show mildly amusing because the celebs are given reasonably difficult tasks, in my opinion, and see what they come up with as normal human beings (not celebs) piques my interest. The characters are hilarious too because what is Lil John doing on the show? He seems so out of place and is his career that over that he resorted to this? Half the guys aren’t even celebs anymore like Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray and Meatloaf but the girls are even worse with Star Jones and LaToya Jackson. Donald looks absolutely absurd with his hair, strange tan, and wild make up. It’s like he’s really tan but has all this pink spots around his face, just a really weird looking dude.

Plus a final thing, during a round of Scattergories, Amber was telling me she reads my blog and that my spelling is awful. I would completely understand if she said my grammar was wrong because I haven’t had a writing course in years and I know I’m guessing half the time with commas, but WordPress automatically spell checks my words and my spelling just can’t be that terrible. Sure I probably have a no instead of a know which is pretty bad but my only defense is that I’ve made near 600 posts and if I don’t type at a 98% accuracy rate, I’d be surprised. Also, I won’t find it funny if people start pointing out my mistakes because I’m sure they could be found under close scrutinization.

One more thing, playoff bball at the Ambler Y tonight with what could be the greatest upset in sports history. After losing by 40 in the regular season we will see what happens tonight at 9:30. For a quick look into what I might be expecting as a spectator, I found Little Giants on TV and watched how JR and the IceBox led their team to victory even though they were playing with a bunch of misfits. I’m putting the line at 19 1/2. Any wagers?

Where to begin…

I’m sort of stalled out here. I’m going to use a transportation, life analogy which hopefully will explain things clearly. When you’re a baby you first need to crawl before you can walk. As you get older, walking only gets you so far before you learn to run. After some more time you learn to ride a bike and now you can advance in life by getting to more places. After a bike, you drive a car and then different parts of the country become accessible and you are basically free to do whatever you want. You get to an age where you can travel the world simply by buying a ticket and doing it. With all this freedom available, I’ve completely stalled. I’m not doing anything but passing the time in meaningless fashion. I pass the time by playing poker, reading books, watching movies, and getting drunk but it’s not doing anything for me. I feel like I’ve hit a quarter life crisis. Well 1/3 life crises because that would put me at 81 and I can’t see making it much past that with my history.

I can’t* really explain why this occurred all of a sudden but the feeling has become evident. It’s sort of like I’ve gotten myself into a comfortable routine of making nothing happen. I just spent the last 3 weeks doing nothing with a busted ankle and now I feel like “I’m back on my feet, literally, and now what? I just have this feeling of complacency that you don’t really feel so much when you’re younger.

Up to this point of my life I’ve always felt like I was trying to achieve something. It starts with elementary through high school and athletics take up a good portion of your time. Then you try to earn a degree from college to qualify you for the business world. Then I spent the last few years learning how to run a business and getting a feel for how money gets tossed around. It’s depressing when I think that I’ve been out of school this long and still have my life as a pretty significant question mark. The idea of having a wife and starting a family has pretty much alluded me for various reasons, mainly the complications and responsibility. I think I’m starting to feel the realization that I’m not really a kid anymore and it’s time to grow up. It reminds me of Peter Pan except that this isn’t never-never land, this is the harsh reality of time.

When I try to put everything into some sort of relative context I just keep getting an output of blah. Like let me play poker for 6 hours and be doing good if I made 100 bucks. This is the best thing I can do with my time? Let me read some books because their world is more fascinating then my world. Even things like playing sports is like “Yippee, we are striving to be the champions of a local suburban league.” I’m not trying to be a downer either. Everything is perfectly fine with me. I feel as good as I can at this point and I just sort of have this reflection point that I think strikes people at different points of their lives, in completely different ways. I’ve got my own problems and ways of handling things the same way everyone else has theirs. I think it’s just attempting to understand getting older and reflecting on everything that’s happened in your life and then asking yourself what does your future hold. Here’s a send off that I think fits the message behind this post.

The gift that keeps giving

The first line of my last post was saying that I do this blog out of the kindness of my heart and I absolutely do. This blog has generated $3.36 over the past 2 years. Not only do I pay for hosting of this site, but I also pay for my brothers site as well. He’d offer to give me money but I wouldn’t accept it. So I got my bill today for hosting another 2 years and it’s 8 bucks a month x 24 months with some other miscellaneous charges totaling 200 bucks or so. So when I pay this bill I realize that this is the reason not everyone maintains a blog. Basically, you have to put forth effort for 2 continuous years, receive no money, and be happy with the result. Sure there are free sites that host blogging but they can’t be taken seriously. You have to buy your own domain name to make it legit.

Am I complaining about this bill? Absolutely not. I’m well aware that I most likely won’t receive any compensation for this effort. Am I complaining that I have to pay another 20 bucks for going over my data plan for those video’s I posted yesterday without even thinking that was happening. Nope. I’m just going to pay the bill and 10-50 years down the road I’m going to know that this was the best investment I’ve ever made in my entire life. To have documentation of all the events of your life for years and years is something that no one can put a price on. Hell, I’d probably pay 1,000 bucks a year for this service. There is no price tag that I could put on this experience. My viewership has climbed over the past two years and I’m hoping that it continues to climb in the future.

The only part of this that makes it unrewarding is the lack of comments. It’s hard to say how many people are actually reading this because half the people that come to the site bounce anyway. But spending time creating posts, having people read them, and then 90% of the posts have 0 comments makes it seem like a waste of time. Even if you read the post and you completely disagree or you think the post sucks, even saying that makes me feel like it’s worth it. Maintaining a blog without feedback makes you fee like a used prostitute, except what I”m doing is actually free, actually it costs me money. So this is hardly a call out and asking for more comments but just know that any comment is essentially paying me for my service. I will try to keep this ad free for as long as possible.

On a life related note, I went to the Dr and he said my ankle was OK and I don’t need the crutches and can get around with the boot or even just my shoe. The Doc is funny because he’s an older guy who acts like each time I see him is my first time. He hasn’t done a thing to the ankle other then letting it heal on it’s on, prety cush job if you ask me. So after hearing that good news I went to get a haircut, then I went to Sam’s club for food shopping, then I even went to the gym where I did 10 minutes on the elliptical. Jeff says the elliptical is mostly for pregnant women and I agree but it’s the only thing I can do. The posture the machine makes you take is really bizarre and bothersome but I’m hoping to start going to the gym twice a day and getting myself back into shape now that I actually can again. My strength was down a little bit at the gym and my weight came in at 172 which was on the low side for me but I was just happy to be back. Life is good Ladies and Germs and I hope to move back into my normal lifestyle in the near term. The only goal I have set is to do the Broad Street the first week of May. I know this is pretty lofty but after 24 days I’m able to almost walk normally and with the help of the elliptical, hopefully I will be in good enough shape to do the 10 miles successfully. I know you’re thinking how can someone fracture their ankle and then run a 10 mile run 2 months later but how easily forget this isn’t a normal human being your dealing with, I’m TC motherfucking Stortz.

Ambler Bball – Team Bake

I want to start this post with letting everyone know that I did this out of the goodness of my heart and not because I wanted to. I could have taken the footage and left it on my phone but I went out of my way to upload everything to YouTube and then post it on my blog so we can look back at these days and laugh. I also want to give my phone the Droid X mad props for how good this footage is. If this doesn’t make you want to get a Droid X over any other phone out there, I don’t know what will.

In this video you’ll notice Jka$h wave his arm in the air demanding the ball for a clear look at a 3. I think a bug must of flown in his eye or something.

A corner 3 by Evan barely catches iron and a Bake tip keeps the ball alive where Jeff finishes for a strong put back.

Evan with his notorious pump fake gets the defender in the air, he then proceeds to drive to the hole and find Bake with a hook shot pass that no one in the gym saw coming.

JKa$h runs the break and finds a streaking Casey who I told ahead of time to throw one down, instead puts in an easy bucket.

On a play where the team uses 4 passes to find an open man and actually makes it look they know what their doing, SharpShooting Schmidt knocks down a trey.

Bake takes on two defenders that part like the Red Sea for the easy lay up.

Just a few notes on the game. The other team was god awful and picked up a player who was hanging around the gym for their 5th. They also had a 40 year old balding man and another one who was starting to gray. Footage where baskets are being made like this probably isn’t the norm. I wasn’t even planning to do anything like this but once I started taking some film, the footage was so good that I had to post it up here. Also, I know the footage I took of JKa$h making it rain got corrupted so I couldn’t post that (thanks Sharon). Also I’m sure CK4 is probably pissed I don’t have anything of him but I only have one shot of him missing a 3 and I tried to send it to my email 5 times and couldn’t get it to go properly. If it comes through, I’ll post it up.

Optimisim

Today is a good day to quote Ice Cube. I woke up and started walking around on both legs with no assistance. Although there is a little hitch when walking off my left leg, I can now fit back into society like a normal human being. This has probably been a good experience for me because it makes me want to come back better. I just spent the last 3 weeks doing virtually nothing. Waking up, going to work, coming home, go to sleep. That was it for 3 weeks. Not fun. I literally never left to get anything and only filled my tank up with gas once. Aside from the doctors office, that was it. Once I’m able to run again I’m going to have to work hard to get myself back into shape. Basically I have to supergize my efforts to try to make up for my bad habits acquired while injured. I literally housed stacks of oreo’s, bags of cheese curls, and ate anything left over in the apartment. I feel like a total waste of a human being but starting today, that’s about to change.

You really take things for granted when you have them. Even stupid things like changing the light in my bathroom is a challenge that doesn’t get down when I can’t walk. The simplest tasks become undoable and I’m happy that finally over. Today I woke up and cleaned the bathroom. Later today I’m going to clean my room and feel like I made a fresh start. My body is in way worst shape now then when I was hurt. There’s a nerve in my right arm, right where I was crutching around, that goes off anytime I bend my arm back too far. My fingers feel like they have arthritis and I have this pimple on my nose that has been there for 3 weeks. I’ve run out of toothpaste and body wash so I’m finally able to go to the store and buy some more. The timing worked out well thankfully. My showering was way down over past weeks so hopefully that will pick up too. I feel reborn.

One good thing about the whole experience has been my poker playing. I took down another 12 dollar 180 man yesterday. I also made deep runs in a 114 buying (586 people, I took 20th) and a 55 dollar buy in (2600 people I got 175th). I’ve been saying it for weeks now that I’m due for a big cash so I think today is my day. I played all day yesterday and probably all day today. Even though I can walk, I still don’t want to do any additional damage to the leg. I can say that it’s been 3 full weeks and I’m still not fully healed. Even a super human like me takes a few weeks to heal from a break. First broken bone ever in my 27 years on Earth.

DownSwing

I’ve encountered my first major downswing after 3 weeks of only poker. This is due mostly to bad bankroll management and the initial strategy changes implemented by SNGWiz. I went about 300 bucks to downside yesterday. capped off by a 78 dollar SNG loss. I’ve saved myself a few times in recent history with big scores negating lots of losses but yesterday wasn’t happening. I notice my focus lacking a little but I hope to pick up this weekend back on the right track.

I’m still hobbled and have no weekend plans. I’m able to walk around ok with the boot on but I can still feel some weakness when I try to walk without it. I’m hoping some resting time over the weekend will come in handy. I have some games to watch over the weekend for entertainment but the Jimmer and Duke’s loss pretty much ruined my brackets and any shot at WINNING. I have a couple of bucks in my bodog account to bet so I’m sure I’ll put that in action this weekend.

I have a Dr’s appointment next which I’m hoping will be the end of this walking boot and find me in normal sneaker. I just need to be able to get around like a normal human being and not feel handicapped. Doing anything in public makes me feel embarrassed just because. Ck4 wanted to get food and I would feel like a tard doing the Crip walk up and down aisles. So once this is over I’m happy to get back to normal things even if that just involves walking around. Once I can run again I will get myself back into shape because I’ve been feeling like such a lazy, fat ass. I feel like I’ve written this post before but I don’t do any new activities and I just go two places, home and work. Not a lot of events transpire and that makes blogging difficult. Oh well, it’s almost over.

First Ever Guest Entry

First ever guest entry here.

I’m going to say that I almost took JSmashes critiques as a complement. First he’s telling me he gets this website and then almost goes out of his way to say he likes it! Exclamation point, no homo. He said he tried to send the entry to me on Monday but my mail server blocked his gmail and he resent it today. He also pointed out it was ironic I was asking for guest material as he already thought he sent it in. This is how big things get started. We can quote the famous line from Wedding Crashers “people helping people.” One person can’t do it all and the more material the higher the success rate. And just to respond to me “getting cocky” by creating the other website because people love all my spew. Absolutely 100% agree. Nobody can resist my spew, especially the ladies.

Off topic but related to my life. I took 7th place in a 900 person tourny last night and cashed for 400+ bucks. First place was 2k and my AT < Q9 to send me off in 7th. Play to win. These results aren't a fluke and this is my 4th deep run in a big tourny in the last 2 weeks and hopefully I will bring one down for a nice score in near time. When I do I am going to spend large sums of money on objects with no value and have the time of my life doing it. I will let you know when this happens and everyone can join in. Til then.

Back in Action

After 17 days after breaking my ankle, today is the first day I feel I can at least put pressure and walk comfortably. This is still with the walking boot but with no assistance I can place one foot in front of the other with a bit of a limp. After a while of doing this though I noticed the foot start to tingle so it’s better off if I continue to give it time to heal. At least I know that the healing process is fine and I should be able to walk again within a week. I honestly don’t care if doctors say 6-8 weeks because this has been long enough and I’m starting to get tired of doing nothing. If I feel no pain, I don’t believe that I am doing further damage to the break. However, don’t freak out and start scolding me for not listening to orders, I’m still crutching around and will stay off of it as long as I can.

So the way I see it, I have 1 more full week until I can really do things again. I have a dr’s appointment next Wed and hopefully he will give me the green light for no more boot. Once I can walk I can finally start going to the gym and at least using the elliptical. This is easily the longest time since grade school of not exercising for me which is really starting to get to me. I notice small changes in my body basically expanding, a kinder word for getting fat. That just doesn’t jive with my way of living and I can’t wait to get back at it. I actually find the motivation from not doing anything to make me work harder to get back to where I was physically. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise because it gave me a chance to consider how lucky I am to be gifted with what I have and you never really know how much longer you’ll have them.

I’m just really getting tired with the monotony of Online Poker. Aside from going to work, where I’m barely able bodied to do anything, this has become me. I think I have proven to myself that I can beat the game. I final tabled 2 more 180 man tournaments last night and have been trying the master the push/fold recommended by SNGWiz. What it does though is takes my time. I’m devoting the majority of my free time (due to lack of alternatives) to this activity. I’m making what some consider decent money but it’s really just pocket change in the long run. It makes me feel that I at least cover my casino and sports gambling losses with poker winnings. The real problem is that the activity requires no physical ability and it isn’t conducive to being healthy. My health at the moment is at an all time low. I eat only fried foods, no exercise, and eat junk food whenever I want. Makes me sick. I can’t wait to end this phase of my life and learn from this experience.

Slug

I’ve been feeling really out of shape lately. This is day 16 of no left foot walking and I’m getting restless. I just want to advance in time to at be able walk normally without feeling handicapped. I’ve been eating junky foods combined with no exercise and I see how people become fat and unhealthy. This experience might be helpful in that it helps me realize that I have to take advantage of what I have while I still have it. I wrote off the broad street but it’s still 2+ months away. I should be able to walk by the next week and hopefully get my ankle strong enough to be able to jog. We’ll see.

Other than that I haven’t been moving much and just playing online poker. I spazzed out today after a losing session of 200 I played a 60 sng only to get 4th when the guy who ended up getting 3rd was down to 25 chips. That tilted me and I played a 78 turbo and won it after getting lucky with Q8 vs K8 when I called a sb shove. Pretty lucky but it saved my afternoon. I’m still quite prone to tilting if the game rubs me the wrong way. I know this isn’t as interesting as picking fights with people during Scattergories but this is the best I got for right now.

Scattergory Rules – Let’s come to an agreement

* If you read this please use the poll on the right to help judge an answer.
A funny interpretation here.

I believe it’s possible friendships have been lost playing Scattergories. Sunday was a pretty low key day and we passed some time with an innocent Milton Bradley game called Scattergories. Here are the rules for people who’ve never played. You roll a die that marks a letter to be used for a round. You then get 12 category’s that range from colors to parks to political figures that you have to come up with answers that start with that letter. You get extra points for alliterations. A, an, and the don’t count. First and Last names for people count for a person. You can’t duplicate the same word for your answers. Meaning if you have Hornet for an insect, you can’t have Hornets for a professional sports team. Chaos begins when answers start getting wacky and the group has the vote as a whole on whether or not the answer should count. Plus just because YOU know the answer may be right, doesn’t mean everyone else does which causes disruption. Alliances get formed, logic gets tossed, and tempers flare. The joy of Scattergories.

With some ideas fresh in my mind I’m going to go over a few answers that get debated and try to find a commonplace set of rules. I’ll use examples from yesterday of some spots where the group can’t agree. Evan tends to lead our group in questionable answers so we’ll start with some dissection of his.

– Let’s look at an answer for Television Stars for the Letter N. Evan writes Nick Nolte. Now remember that this would be a 2 pointer so the group is going to look at this closely. We all agree Nick Nolte is a movie star who appeared in over 40 films. After viewing his Wikipedia there is a sentence that says he got his career start in a TV miniseries in 1976. There is another blurb about being in another TV series but then for 30+ years there is no mention of a TV series. He is predominantly a movie star. Here is my take on the ruling. If Evan can name the TV series he is in, I’d be happy to give him credit. The fact that he has no idea what it is and can’t prove to the group that he is a TV star, means he shouldn’t get credit for the answer. If he actually knows the specific reasoning behind the answer, I wouldn’t veto. But when he says Nick Nolte, the group agrees he’s a movie star, but you don’t know any TV series, I can’t see how to accept this as answer. Wikipedia being used to help find your answer because you don’t know it, is unacceptable.

– Here is a counter to how a proper situation like that should occur. The category is bands, the letter is T. I say the Trogg’s, they sing Wild Thing. No one at the table actually knows who the Troggs are but the fact that I know they sing that specific song, should be credit enough to pass the answer. If you Wikipedia that band and find that song, that’s proof to pass the answer. This leads back to the last question, what if I said “The Troggs”, I know they are a band but I don’t know what they sing, this puts me right back in the Nick Nolte situation with no one knowing the band, I don’t know their songs and probably shouldn’t get credit for the answer. This doesn’t seem fair but this is my belief on how the game should be judged.

– Another Evan answer. Song titles for the letter T. Evan’s answer is “It Takes Two (to make everything go round). I believe we have to set in stone that only words to be discounted are a, an, and the. Meaning that Evan’s answer starts with an I, not a T. Plus the best thing about this situation was Evan premises his answer with “I don’t know how many you guys are going to give me for this.” 0, Evan, 0. JKash had a very good 2 pointer with “Take me home Tonight.” This also would work the same way for a Candy bar with the letter H. Evan’s answer of Oh Henry would be vetoed and this rule should be understood by all parties.

– Let me also give some clarification on a similar situation. On a previous game, the Category was Heroes with the letter F. Evan had Five For Fighting. This is a 3 pointer in my mind and we should agree on this point. I also believe that this is a fine answer for Heroes as millions of people enjoy their music and perhaps the music is inspirational to some. I wrote down Fred Funk. This answer should have been vetoed. Fred Funk is a golfer. Sure some people might consider him their hero but it’s not a quality answer. Fred Funk might be the 50th golfer in the world but that to me shouldn’t give him enough leverage to be considered a hero. You see how this game gets argumentative though because players reason that some people may consider him a hero so it should count instead of he’s an actual hero to millions of people.

– This brings me to another fun one, Things Found in a Gym, letter C. Evan writes Clarence Weatherspoon. Yes the Spoon has been found in a gym, however, this isn’t a quality answer. He isn’t a staple of gyms around the world. At one point in time Clarence has been in a gym but I can’t accept this as a good answer for this category. Which leads me to my next point in being a good answer for the category. Category is a Girls Name, letter T. Evan wrote Tennessee. I’m not even sure this needs an explanation of why it got vetoed but the argument of some girl could be named Tennessee doesn’t count.

– Colors, letter S. The Shee had Burnt Sienna. The question arises “can sienna be a color if it’s not burnt?” No one really knows but this is a good answer. Burnt is an adjective, adjectives don’t count, and sienna sounds like a color to me. People veto this answer (Sienna is a color). Some are just so stringent in their thoughts that they can’t accept answers that they don’t think are right. Another similar example, Category is Things that Are Bright. I wrote the Cohen’s knowing Evan is going to accept this answer. Jill vetos it. This is a creative way of looking at how to answer the category and Jill can’t think outside the box.

– Another Evan answer that’s not good. The Category is Parks, Evan writes Portland park. Does it exist, Yes. Is it a good answer, No. We don’t live in Portland and have never heard of Portland park. You have never visited Portland park. This is not a good answer. If you wrote Philadelphia Park now we know that this is a racetrack and an acceptable answer. I know this doesn’t make sense but I really feel like just because it exists, doesn’t make it a good answer.

– My final example is one that I understand but don’t in some regard. The question is Things that Jump, letter N. My answer was Nate Newton. Evan’s answer was Nate Robinson. Nate Newton is a defensive lineman who when a ball is passed has jumped in his life to block it. Is he known for jumping, No. Nate Robinson is a little guy who dunks and is known for jumping, I understand. However here is where I stand on the subject. The category, if I remember right, was Things / Objects that jump or bounce. People should not allowed as part of this category, meaning both should be vetoed. Same goes with things that are black. A black person’s name shouldn’t be an acceptable answer. Is a person a thing. Yes. Is this a good answer? I just don’t think so. If you wrote a car for being black, I think this should be vetoed. A good answer is an umpire or a cat. Things associated with black.

I know this is a long winded message and anyone who doesn’t play Scattergories is probably out there in left field. I however thought it was important to take some time to at least give my thought process on how answers should be viewed. If the category is tough and there aren’t many answers associated with it, I’ll be much more lenient on what I pass through. If there are plenty of answers and you come up with a half witted one, I think it should get vetoed even if it remotely pertains to the subject. This game is truly a game with tons of gray areas and I hope people from the group who play can chime in on how to judge because this is how I see it.
