The Genius Behind Dunkin Donuts

By |2011-01-20T10:59:56-05:00January 19th, 2011|My Brain|2 Comments

I’ve never been a coffee drinker till the last 6 -12 months. A #3, which is a bagel with cream cheese comes with a medium coffee. So rather than just order a bagel and juice I take the 49 cent discount or whatever it is with the combo. I drink my coffee with cream and sugar mainly because I don’t really like the taste of black but can find it bearable with cream and sugar. As the time has worn on I actually find a strong gravitation and happy feeling when I go to get Dunkin on M,W, and F. So what have we learned here? Someone who didn’t drink coffee for 26 years has suddenly become a 3x a weeker because of the addictive nature of caffeine. It’s just pure brilliance and why D&D is so successful because they sell a product that people get addicted to. Lesson being that if you want to become successful just start selling something that people either have to have or desperately need.

On a note of interest, I’ve started devoting more time to playing poker recently. I joined Deucescracked and watched a few videos and started playing SNG’s and MTT’s. After my final table finish on Sunday I had some money in my account to start playing. On Monday I had a successful day and profited a hundred bucks with some decent play and good luck. Yesterday not so much as I managed to give back 160 of it. I’ve got some kinks to work out, mainly getting involved in flop play where I am just investing too many chips with mediocre hands. I need to be more patient and get it in good. I know most people don’t care about poker but I generally write about things I spend my time doing so I’ll try to keep it minimal but won’t linger.

1st Bball Game – Ambler League

By |2011-01-18T23:24:44-05:00January 18th, 2011|Sports|0 Comments

Coming off a championship run in the Fall league we had high expectations for game 1. We didn’t have Ck4 so our offense would be a little light but hopefully by outplaying the opposition we would get the W. At no point do I think either team had a lead by more than 6 points. We were pretty bad but they handed us the game on a silver platter. They missed so many foul shots at the end and screwed up royally by calling a timeout they didn’t have and giving us a chance to tie the game. Bake must have hit clutch 3 after clutch 3 to keep us in the game and we found ourselves in a 2 minute OT. We missed our first possession and sent them to line where they went 1 for 2. On ours, Jeff gave me a pass that barely made it through and I incredibly (the layup wasn’t incredible it was the fact that it went in) made a lay up to get us up by 1. Then they took a bad shot and I can’t remember exactly what happened but they were inbounding the ball, down 1, with 6 seconds left and this complete doofus threw it right to the guy I was standing next to and I hit it away and we gained possession. We were the better team but they outplayed us. If it wasn’t for Bake draining something like 7 threes on the night, we’d have been toast. Very lucky to come away with the victory and this team undeniably needs to practice.

Pressure Point

By |2011-01-18T15:23:26-05:00January 18th, 2011|My Life|1 Comment

We have this new game called Pressure Point and it’s a pretty entertaining game with lots of laughs. The players will remain nameless to conceal any embarrassment. Basically the game gives you a category and you have 10 seconds to name as many things related to the category as possible. Examples of categories are “things that are green” and “words that rhyme with lip.” The twist of the game is that the other people playing have to guess how many of that particular category the person guessing will name. There’s a point system that’s decent and overall it’s a pretty fun game. So just a few highlights and where the “real” fun in this game comes from. The rules can get hazy because the opposing players are the judge of whether the word should count or not. A few examples of how the game gets heated. Category was rhymes with luck. So Player 1 was rattling a few off and then said “ruck” followed by a lower toned “us”. Now after using his phone it was confirmed that ruck is indeed a word but the person saying it didn’t know this (he would say otherwise). So now if I guessed he would get 6 and he said 7 and ruck was included in that 7, and I start arguing that ruck shouldn’t count because I want to instill firm rules, but the other players think I’m doing it so it benefits me (you get the amount of chips if you guessed correctly the number the player actually got.) So another example was things that are white and Player 2 said the ocean and I was arguing against this and naturally the answer I’m arguing against, if they agreed with my argument, would match what I guessed the player would answer correctly. So obviously you see how this game could lead to people accusing people of manipulating and so forth.

The real highlight of the game came from Player 1 and his answers. Category was cities that begin with R. Once the timer started he was blank for about 5 seconds then blurted out Randolph. When myself and player 2 heard that answer we instantly started cracking up. Towards the end of the ten seconds player 1 also came up with Rhode Island. Just a hysterical round to lead to a clear 0 points with no argument from anyone (the counter you use to guess has a minimum of 1 so the 0 throws everything off.) Literally 1 round later the card that player 1 gets is cities that start with L. I show the category to player 2 and we just instantly start laughing. Player 1 hits go and flips the category over only to come up with Louisiana as his first answer. It really is a hard game though because it puts you right on the spot to start thinking of answers and once you draw a blank it’s hard to get rid of. It’s another game where it’s hard to judge too, like scattergories because one person may know something unique and if the other two don’t, it gets rejected. Fun game though.

I believe everything I read

WHAT DO PEOPLE FEAR MOST

This is pathetic, but darn funny when you think about it for a second.

Two magazines, Country Living (95.99% white readership) and Ebony /Jet (99.99% black readership) did surveys on….

“WHAT DO PEOPLE FEAR MOST?” The results were interesting, to say the least….

Country Living magazine’s top three answers were:
1. Nuclear war/terrorist attack in U.S
2. Child/spouse dying
3. Terminal illness

Ebony / Jet magazine’s top three answers were:
1. Ghosts
2. Dogs
3. Registered mail

No Kidding… And these are the people who put Obama over the top; what would you expect?

AND TO GO ALONG WITH ALL OF THIS, I’LL SHARE TWO QUOTES; ONE PITIFUL AND ONE GREAT!

“My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you’ll join with me, as we change it.”– Barack Obama

”Life’s tough, pilgrim, and it’s even tougher if you’re stupid.” John Wayne

Read on!!!!

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning November’s Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Obama: 19 McCain: 29

Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million McCain: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Obama: 13.2 McCain: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: “In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare…”

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the “complacency and apathy” phase of Professor Tyler’s definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation’s population already having reached the “governmental dependency” phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals – and they vote – then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

Jersey Shore

By |2013-03-15T17:47:52-04:00January 17th, 2011|Tv|0 Comments

I actually liked the episode. The human behavior is fascinating. I also love how MTV promotes “Skins” non-stop. I know I’m probably out of their age bracket but I have completely no interest in a fictional show about relationships. However the reason I think the Jersey Shore is so good is because it’s real. Do you think it’s possible to stage how hammered Nicole was? Those actions are completely out of her control, I know, I’ve been there. Can they stage how mad Ronnie gets at Sammi because if so the guy deserves an Emmy. My point is that as loco and trashy as this show is, the situation is so bizarre that these people have no choice but to get too hammered because the actual reality of it is unbearable. These people live a tough life in the spotlight with camera’s 24/7. How hard is that to do?

Just a few parts I found hilarious of the episode. When the guy was talking to JWoww and the girl told JWoww he had a boyfriend and then he starts getting pissed and she retorted with “you’re just pissed because I’m blowing up your spot.” She was right though because he was getting way to mad if it weren’t true.

The Sammi forgiving part is such hilarity too. First off she’s a complete schemer in this Reality Television. She his obviously the character who is doing the most crafting and manipulating to make great TV. She’s a reality TV professional. Now that she thought that Ronnie was going to abandon her she knew she needed friends, so she had to start apologizing to get some people back on her side. Personally if I were Snooki I’d forgive her too because the whole situation should just be viewed as a phase instead of an eternity. The forgiveness to Deena was easy for Sammi because she barely knew her so Sammi just weaseled her way through that. The JWoww gets even better because they are both stone set in it not happening. My guess is they eventually talk it out somewhere down the line. If not, it’s so petty it makes girls look bad.

The other stalker scene was strange and that girl really must be off the deep end. Pauly seems like a pretty likable guy and I’m guessing she’s just a psycho and we should be on alert for any crazy shit she may try to pull. Mike’s girl was definitely hot and an obvious good pull. Not quite as good as Vinnie’s who he just stuck it in and said see ya later without any emotion or drama. His character has really matured since the first season. His laugh impressions of Ronnie were first class and hysterical.

I know if you don’t watch the Jersey Shore than you just think this is a complete wasted post and you have no interest. If you read this far and you have absolutely no interest then you are a really dedicated reader because I would have thought you quit after paragraph one. I also want to point out that when I post songs By Britney Spears, it’s not that I’m sitting here playing this song on repeat. The way to start a blog that people actually caring about is writing about things that people actually care about. Meaning the most popular things out there (ie, most dl’d song on Itunes and the Jersey Shore which is MTV’s highest rated show and probably is saving their network.) aren’t necessarily my favorite but its good to know what’s out there.

MLK Day

By |2011-01-17T10:53:29-05:00January 17th, 2011|Music|1 Comment

I was perusing failblog and they had a basketball camp that was going on and today’s headline was “Martin Luther King Jr Day Shooting Camp.” I had an experience today and I’d like to relive a scenario at Dunkin Donuts this morning. So I walk in and there is only one person in line and I from just overhearing how she’s ordering I can tell this is going to be a nightmare. She’s trying to order a #8 but she wants it on #6’s bread and she wants the cheddar cheese from #2 instead of the American. She then wants her bacon extra crispy and she wants “extra extra” cream in her coffee. Literally anything she ordered was completely customized to exactly the way she wanted it and thus proving to be a real headache to the guy at the register. It’s one thing if you are allergic to onions and order something without onions but it’s a completely different matter to change the establishments menu to your satisfaction. I just stood there and thought to myself “does this woman have any idea she’s clueless or does she just live this way thinking everything is normal”.

So that got me thinking that not everyone thinks like me and may not think that what I think is moronic, is. Like that last sentence. I guess I think it’s just interesting that there are 6 billion people on this Earth and it’s impossible to think that everyone should think the same way. I think understanding that and not being closed minded in your thinking is important to becoming a better person. But I will never say it’s ok to do what Dunkin Donuts lady did today and she’s lucky I don’t have any balls because I would have told her how absurd she was being and if it was my Dunkin Donuts I would have taken her food to the back and busted some special sauce in her bagel hole. I know that doesn’t make sense but I still find it funny and it’s even funnier because me saying that I don’t have any balls would make that particular possibility impossible. I’m off the rocker today.

Final thought and it pertains to music. I like when songs are clever in their lyrics. For example double meanings and I’ve come across two recently. First being from the new Britney single “hold it against me.” The lyric “If I want your body now, would you hold it against me.” The obvious double meaning from the lyric is clever and she obviously didn’t think of it. The second being from Alice Cooper’s “Schools Out for Summer.” I heard this playing in the movie Dazed and Confused and the lyrics “We’ve got no class, We’ve got no principals.” Since schools out there is no more class and no more principals to go along with the rebellious nature of the lyrics. I’m sure I could find hundreds more but I just wanted to point out that clever lyrics add to songs. I’m also not saying that Britney’s song is good but I guarantee it gets airtime. #1 dl’d song on Itunes.

Monday Morning

By |2016-10-28T15:56:10-04:00January 17th, 2011|Tv|0 Comments

I woke up today feeling good because I didn’t get black-out drunk on Saturday night. I pretty much slept a full 8 hours and didn’t wake up once which is pretty unusual. I decided to take 76 to work instead of Kelly because it’s MLK day and it really is a faster way in if there’s no traffic. I also woke up singing Naive by the Kooks for some reason and in crazy, someone has tapped into my brain fashion, I heard the song on the way to work. AltNation struck 3 in a row with that, Shake me Down by Cage and the Elephant and then Electrify by Mute Math. The Middle ended the streak. I’ve been really picky about the music I’ve been listening to lately. I had the Anberlin and Arcade Fire CD’s in my car, both really solid CD’s, but now I have nothing.

Our first Manayunk game was yesterday and it turned into a blowout. I asked Baker to drive from Hatboro even though he wasn’t really into playing and he did so I felt a little bad. Just to point out what a friend does for his friends. The game ended up being a complete romping. We were up 39 to 14 or so at halftime and that was that. The court is a lot smaller than we are used to which may be problematic against better teams but we acquired someone who is actually tall for this league so I think that will help. Y game on Tuesday and this will be the first time we are in 2 leagues simultaneously so I’m hoping to see some improvement.

Just a few random topics. Laura, I’m reading the Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest and I see where you are coming from it being somewhat confusing with all the characters they are introducing but I can’t say that the book isn’t good. I’ve found each book has taken a different path which is somewhat unusual for an author to have such diversity in their writing. For example, every John Grisham book I read has the same sort of feel to it. This 3rd book in the installment has been the least action but I’m also not finished yet so I may finish with a different opinion.

The Sunday night Showtime shows are a bit disappointing. Californication is missing the mark on its first two episodes. I think they sort of backed themselves into this storyline and it’s just not working. I just wish they could start over and start Hank fresh because it’s just really depressing. Episodes is what I would like to call “trying too hard to be funny.” It’s forced comedy and it’s just bad. I like how they have critics saying how good the show is but that must be because they haven’t watched it. I didn’t even bother with Shameless this week because I call this show “trying to be over the top funny” and it’s just not. Didn’t even tune in.

Onto some more random things. I’ve been sucked into Angry Birds: Season’s Greedings which is different then the original and have 3 starred about a 1/3 of the levels and have wasted way too much time on the game but I’ve come this far that I think I’ll finish it. There is a small feeling of accomplishment when you shoot a good bird and cause mass pig slaughter but it’s a fleeting feeling. I also have been playing some poker here or there and managed to final table a 12 dollar 180 man. I ended up getting 5th but I obviously think I should have won. I didn’t suck out at all to get to that point and then some key hands didn’t go my way. My Tens lost to a KQ in a hand that would have made me chip leader but instead pushed me to the bottom. Then after a nice double up with my AQ vs KJ, I made an awesome read and overpushed with KT against a somewhat shortstack and he showed up with K2 and he flopped trips. Then my send off hand was me pushing my sb of K8 into the same d-bag who snapped called with a T-9 from the bb and managed to flop trips on me again. Good playing, not great result. I’m going to to sign up for Blue Fire Poker again and start taking it a bit more serious. Once I put in the hours of training I’ll by myself a new 23″ monitor so I can 9 table again instead of 4 max.

That’s all that is really going on in my life. I watched a few Modern Family’s yesterday and this episode of Family Guy. Seriously this had me laughing so hard that I have to share. The “hey, there’s my little man” is easily the best part although the paramedic’s come on down followed by the dance is great too. Chris is on fire because he was wanking it and that was similar to Peter and the cow for all the nitwits.

Weak Week

By |2011-01-15T07:03:07-05:00January 15th, 2011|My Brain|0 Comments

In rare form I had no Thursday or Friday post. Obvious reasons for this could be because I got too wasted on both nights and didn’t feel like writing. This was not the case as I didn’t even go out on Thursday. I didn’t write up a Jersey Shore post either because I thought the episode was terrible. I’m actually writing this at 6:50 am on Saturday morning which is an extremely rare occurrence and I’m giving any weekend blog checkers, there aren’t many, something to read for a couple of minutes.

Why am I up at 6:50? Well I was actually up at 5:30 and this was for two reasons. First being that Ck4 is going to South Korea and he was making some noise earlier this morning and I heard him rummaging around. The second is that I went to sleep at 11pm on a Friday night. Why did this happen? Ck4 and I went to the bar for a couple of drinks after work. Earlier I even went to LA to play some basketball and get some much needed practice for our upcoming winter games. At this one bar we’ve made acquaintances with a bartender and he will hook up the food and drinks that we get and he even gave us a no cover card which means we never have to pay cover again, obviously. Since Ck4 will never read this because he won’t be back till Wednesday and I know he’s too lazy to check past dates, if it wasn’t for me, we wouldn’t be getting these hook ups in Manayunk bars. The bartenders realize I’m a generous tipping alcoholic and who better to have as a customer, so they do nice things to keep me coming back. So I think I drank at least 9 pints in 3 hours of sitting there and Ck4 had 4 and we were billed for 4. When we came back it was 10 or so and Evan’s not here for the weekend and Ck4 is going away so I was decently buzzed and just decided rather than go out creeping by myself and drink to oblivion, it was wiser to pass out and wake up the next day feeling fresh.

So I’m feeling good and I have ideas of grandeur for the day. I’ve already had WaWa for breakfast and I’m going to let this digest and then read about Lizbeth for a few hours before I go to the gym. I’ll do a work out at 9 am and then try to get in some bball games if they go off that early. If not I’ll go to the Pottstown outlets to return this pair of jeans I bought that were way to tight (i’m not a 32 like I was in high school). After that I got a play date lined up with the Sheee to watch the football games. I extinguished the money in my account so not betting on it is going to be difficult but I’ll manage. I have no real plans for the night but with a bball game tomorrow I should try to keep things in check. Other than that everything is good and I’m happy to be productive on a Saturday.

If you aren’t familiar with Bruce Hornsby and the Range, I will enlighten you. Ck4 and I went out to the bar tonight and I can’t think of anything better to come back to then Bruce Hornsby.
