Broad Street Run

I rushed a post this morning so I wanted to go into more detail about the broad street run. I went to sleep around 11 and woke up at 5:15. I had eaten pizza the night before and drank plenty of water. I took a shit after I woke up and it was pretty wimpy. I knew that after I ate that much food, I should have had a better shit. This was the first minor issue. I picked up Laura and we park in Citizens Bank and got a Subway to the start of the race. We were at the start at 7 or so which is a lot earlier than I’d like but certainly not a problem. I ate some pretzel but really wasn’t very hungry which is a bit odd too because I didn’t eat any breakfast. So I go on a warm up run and had to piss so I went down this street and next thing I know I have this security guard yelling at me. I figured I was getting a public urination but my plan was to take off sprinting and to get lost in the crowd but he didn’t say anything other than you can’t be in this area. I tried to piss behind some houses but Fido put a halt to that with some barking that scared the shit out of me. I then did some stretching and had to take another piss. So I went down a side street and went right on the corner. No problem. Now the race is getting close and I get in the corral and what do you know, I have to piss again. I don’t know what was happening but I was now stuck in a corral with no where to go and my only option was to hold it. I considered going behind some houses right by the starting line but there were just way too many people for it to be appropriate. I’m sure you’re wondering why I don’t use the porta-potties but the lines are so long and I’m not into waiting.

So the race starts and I feel fine. I actually felt really good. I went out in a 5:45 and after 5 miles I was at 29:15 which I thought was just about perfect. I would be giving myself plenty of time if I fell off pace a little bit. Problem was I started to fall off pace a lot. By mile 7 I knew I had no chance to break 60. I think I came across mile 7 at 42:20 and then 8 was 48:30. I started to get my legs back a bit for the last 2 miles and ran them decent but it was too late. I had 3 females pass me in the last 3 miles so I knew that I was going to slow. It’s really annoying when you are right where you are supposed to be and then you start to die and people just constantly are passing you. I ended up holding the piss the entire race which wasn’t horrible but not ideal. My feet held up fine so that wasn’t an issue. I just lost focus on a couple miles there and that’s why I wasn’t able to reach my goal. I don’t set a lot of goals and am pretty disappointed by not achieving it. I also took a huge shit after the race so my timing on that just wasn’t right. You want to run on clean pipes and I think that may have been a minor issue.

I did get interviewed by an Asian reporter after the race. I was probably one of the first people to start walking to the car because I wanted to beat all the traffic and she was standing on the sidelines with her camera man. I saw her and knew what she was after so when she asked me if I can do an interview I rolled my eyes and said “fine” under my breath. I think she asked how I did in the race and I told her “I failed miserably.” Then I made some comment about lactic acid and how it was pretty hot. I don’t know if it ever made the news or not but it was CW or something like that. She was pretty hot too for an Asian.

Next race is Phil’s 5k and then the Sea Isle 10 miler, followed by the distance run. I’m a really annoyed with myself for not going under 60 and I’ve lost some motivation but I just have to keep at it and move on. I’m going to see what I can run a 400, an 8, and a mile in. I think I was 4:59 in the mile last year so that will be my goal this year. I don’t have good times in the other two to work off of. I’m really happy it’s hot out again because I think sweating while running in the heat is really healthy.

On an unrelated note, I put a bunch of books on half.com and actually sold one today. I sold a Kurt Vonnegut book that I used to read in the bathroom. I don’t really think there is anything wrong with that. It doesn’t carry around an odor and just because my hands are touching it while I’m shitting doesn’t mean it’s contaminated. If I was the buyer and I knew the last owner used it while taking a dump, it would probably bother me a bit but without that knowledge, seems alright to me. I’m still reading the Hunter S Thompson autobiography but after that I’m on a clean slate and will have to find something new. Suggestions?

Broad Street & Weekend

This was one of the few weekends where I remained sober the entire time. Wagon and I golfed after work on Friday and I probably had one of the worst rounds in years. I was pretty awful and there really are no excuses. Then Saturday we had softball, which again I was not hungover for. The other team was awful and we ended up winning. After that we painted the beer pong table and watched basketball. I completely failed in the race two times. Number one, my bib didn’t register so I was a phantom runner. Number two, I didn’t do better than last years time. I crossed the line at 60:45 or so and I figure there was probably a 5 second delay so that puts me at 60:40, 25 seconds slower than last year. I’m really disappointed. I thought I put in a lot of effort into training and to not improve over last years time, AND letting girls beat me is really disheartening. I did however execute the strategy of getting there and leaving perfectly. I parked in Citizens bank, subway to the start, and then after I finished I abruptly left and went to my car and jumped on 76 which was empty at 10am. There’s really nothing else of interest.

Flipped, Turned Upside Down

So usually Wednesday Mornings are my Dunkin Doughnuts days. I get an everything bagel with cream cheese, 2 glazed doughnuts, and a medium coffee even though I don’t really drink coffee. However, last Friday the girl gave me a raisin bran bagel and I obviously wasn’t very happy. I didn’t get breakfast either Monday or Tuesday so I was already off my usual schedule but I decide to get a sausage, egg, and cheese from this place on Delaware ave. Now the people know who I am at this point and they know I always get a sausage, egg, and cheese, but today I wanted to throw them a curve ball. I ordered a Bacon, egg, and cheese and I think I blew the woman’s mind. She was in complete confusion and in complete malfunction mode. I’m not really sure what spurred this bizarre behavior from me but I wanted to swap things up a bit and keep things real. I actually thought the bacon was pretty good and maybe I’ll intertwine that with my normal meal. Aside from that though, everything is pretty normal. I lost 2 34 dollar heads up last night to some donk so I’m obviously not pleased about that and I went 2-2 on bball bets which netted me 2 dollars.

I put in a really good workout yesterday with 12 miles with all the miles between 6:10 and 6:30 which I thought was really good for the time being. I have a week and a half before broad street and with a run like that and still some more time to train I think race pace should clear 6 pretty easily. I feel pretty good today and hopefully this will continue into the weekend. Work has been busy and I have a lot of work to put in for the new website so I’ll have my hands full. Things are good though.

Female Boxing Match

Saw this on TMZ:

I would absolutely go to this if anyone is interested. Even though Gina Lynn is well passed her prime and she’s only 5-2 I think this would make for an interesting cat fight. My first impression is that the neo Nazi is going to whoop her ass because she seems ferocious and not to be messed with. But for some reason I think Gina Lynn will put up a fight. I’ve never been to a boxing or UFC fight but I get the feeling it would be hard to see what’s happening unless you had really good seats. Is this true?

Normal

So the alcohol has been drained from my body and I feel normal again. A new line “get the poison out” is catching on. I heard it on the Howard Stern show when the creator of the sybian was dirty talking this girl on the sybian and used that line. I also heard it on ESPN so I’m not really sure where it’s origin was but if you come to this blog I’ll try to give my best updates on newest culture trends.

I went to the gym today (but not this morning) and ran 6 miles in 35:15 which was pretty good. I felt really good and could have continued. I don’t know if I would have been able to go the full ten at that pace but I think I’m in line to get there by May. I weighed in at 178 which is still about 5-8 pounds more than my ideal running weight but I know that’s going to be hard to achieve as long as I continue to drink on the weekends. I’m really taking this running as serious as I can because at this age, these are going to be my last few best effort attempts at setting times. Plus it keeps me in really good shape.

My dad is a habitual gum chewer and I pretty much never developed the habit but lately he’s been buying different flavors and I’ve come into contact these past few days. He usually buys the blue trident which I find very off putting but there is this orange and pink flavor that get me hooked. I start off with 2 pieces and they will lose their flavor within one minute. But the geniuses within the Trident gum factory have this planned so you just pop in another piece. 10 minutes later I’ve had 5 pieces and this huge wad of gum in my mouth which I don’t spit out for hours and just keep adding to it with more pieces. I know it’s bad for my teeth but once I get started there is no stopping. I have to go back to the dentist this Thursday which isn’t helping the cause. I have ok teeth, besides the two crowns on my front, and would like to keep them that way so I’m going to have to put an end to this gum popping.

I’ve been playing poker and betting on sports off and on but nothing worth talking about. Rimm (Research in Motion, the people who make Blackberry) has made a comeback from it’s earnings debacle and all my other positions have been stable. I’m actually considering restarting and selling everything and then picking one or two companies I like and then writing covered calls on them. I think this would be more profitable then some of the positions I’m in now. I remember the Shee telling me that you don’t really have to know what you’re talking about when talking finance, you just need to know a couple of buzzwords. Positions are a good one because it’s so broad and sounds like a smart word. Equities is a nifty because any nitwit can invest in stocks but if you are putting your money in equities, whoa nelly, you must know what you are talking about. Just mentioning interest rates and their general effect on the market has credence. With interest rates low and steady it’s not surprising to see more money moving towards the equity markets, now’s a good time to load up on positions. Easy as cake.

If you want to know my schedule and when to check for posts. I’ll usually post late at night on the weekdays so people can check first thing in the morning and see something new. Midday posts are rare but certainly not a never. If things come into my head sometimes I’ll quickly post something. Usually never evening posts and no weekend posts. I still find this as entertaining for me as I hope it is for you. I’m a bit surprised I haven’t heard anything from the quotes of the day, I’ve trying to pick good ones and thought it was a good addition but maybe I was off on that.

I also have a drunk video from Jkash once he gets the right USB cord. The bbm is as follows (I’ve taken excerpts):
Him: I’m mad I started the video late. You were not speaking English for a while before I started it.
Me: Is the vid on your phone or camera cause some have different ports
Him: Phone. I’m not a dumb shit. We have the same phone port. It’s smaller than most.
Nowhere did I imply that he was a dumb shit but my question must have come across, how are you that stupid that you don’t know the difference between a phone and camera USB cord? I didn’t mean it that way but the response was pretty funny.

Same Tiger, Different Hole

Chad made this title so I figured I’d use this sentence to give him credit. As it turns out I won both of my tiger bets I made. He wore a black hat and shot under 70 for the first round. They had a stat on yesterday that said Tiger had never broken 70 in the first round of the majors EVER. Just shows that I was doing my homework before I bet. I really am amazed though how this guy just did that. He has so much media coverage and so much pressure from different areas to perform like that is really remarkable. I would think that his sponsors that dropped him will be really pissed off if he goes on to win this thing. I can’t really see any reason to dislike him other than the whole cheating on the wife thing but if he comes out of this situation a changed man, fine by me. I made a bet with the sheee for 100 dollars that he’ll be with Elin 5 years after their Thanksgiving debacle.

I’ve also encountered 3 ass clowns on the road in the past 2 days that I want to describe. Assclown 1 didn’t want to let me merge into his lane when two lanes were converging to one. I knew it was going to be a hassle the way he was spacing behind the car in front but the lane was ending and there really weren’t any other options. Be a nice guy and let the person in, that simple. Assclown2 was a female. She’s waiting in a lot looking to make a left. There is a huge line of cars coming in the lane she’s trying to get into but none coming the other way. I stop the line of cars effectively letting her in. She waits, and waits, and waits. I’m at a full stop at this point wondering what is going on, so I just assume she doesn’t want to turn and start to accelerate and guess what … she gets the hint and starts to accelerate at the same time so we are accelerating into each other together. We both slam on the brakes and I give a wild “go you stupid bitch” hand signal. Last time I try to be nice. Assclown three was at a light making a left hand turn. The light is green and there is oncoming traffic so he wouldn’t be able to turn. As the light turns yellow he is obligated to move into the center of the intersection and make the left turn when traffic stops for the red light. I could tell he wasn’t going to do it before it happened but I just think people have to understand this simple concept.

Bud Schmidt pointed out to me that my utensil was already created by some other braniac. However I’m sure his name wasn’t as brilliant as mine. Just so we are all on the same page and you understand what goes through my head, I name it the tri-eat. First, 3 different utensils to eat with, the basic behind the name. 2nd, it sounds like treat, and everyone would feel this was a treat to the utensil world. 3rd, it sounds like try it, which is perfect from a marketing stand point. Seriously, I’m a marketing genius.

I’ve been running a lot lately. I put in about 40 miles in the first 4 days of this week and I’ll post my running log sometime next week. I feel asleep at 7pm last night and woke up at 7am today. I did respawn at 2am to take my contacts out and brush my teeth but it was a rare Thursday that I didn’t go out. I feel good today and am looking forward to the weekend. If you are going to Riverpalooza let me know because I would like to attend but no one I know is really going.

Topical post

I don’t do too many topical posts but I came across a few things today that I thought were worth mentioning. First off Josyln James was on Howard Stern today and talked about the 3 year affair with Tiger. I assume not to many people listen to Howard and I want to fill in some details. I didn’t get to listen to the whole interview but she came off as pretty honest about the whole thing. When they banged they wouldn’t use protection and she had one miscarriage and aborted the baby the 2nd time. I’d think you’d want to keep Tiger’s baby but what do I know. She said Tiger was an ass man and everything was fair game (anal, salad tossing, crazy positions) you name it. I’m actually starting to get tired of the whole thing but to think of Tiger in that light is I’m sure what the sponsors were afraid of. I placed a bet on Thursday that Tiger would come out in a black hat so keep your fingers crossed.

I watched most of the NCAA Championship game and with no action on the game and no chance to win any pool, this was by far the most excited I was for a sporting event in years. Watching a small school like Butler claw their way with 2 chances to beat the powerhouse of Duke was really tremendous. They had that hillbilly with the stupid mustache and Gordon leading the charge and I was just really impressed with the play of that team. They didn’t have a high powered offense but they just hung tough and won basketball games. I thought this game was far superior to any professional title game I’ve seen in such a long time. Drew Brees'(s) (do I apostrophe here even if it end in an s) super bowl win didn’t even come close. The Phillies getting to the World Series isn’t even a blip on my radar. All these Phillie fanboys come out now that Philadelphia has a good team again. I was actually surprised that they’ve had winning seasons since 2003. I really don’t have a vendetta against pro baseball but I just find the whole sport slow and dull and could find something better to watch on VH1.

Stop reading if you watch 24 and didn’t see the last episode because I will spoil in a sentence. Where is the show going now that all the terrorists are dead and there is no more Hassan? I haven’t really felt the gravity of the situation at any point in this season. I’m entertained an hour at a time but the big picture is stupid.

Looking Up

I got my tax return today and the gov’t is owing me 3,800 dollars. Obviously one could make the argument that this isn’t a good thing because essentially I’m loaning the gov’t money for free. However, I contest that with the fact that if I had that money I would have blown it like Jenna Jameson. So that was a good start to my day.

I’m in 3rd place, tied with a lot of other schmags, in two pools and kindof bombing the 3rd one but I have Kentucky winning it in 2 and WVU in the other. I was making the argument that it’s not smart to pick Kansas this year because 75% of the pool will be picking them so it just puts you in the cluster fuck of people you have to beat. Meaning you have to pick a damn good bracket to beat all the other people who pick Kansas whereas if you pick another school and they do happen to win you have a better chance to win the pool and hence the money. This argument is the same as in poker. When you play a tournament, you play to win it, 1st place. I think Kansas is a good pick to win it but if you pick them your chances for winning the 1st place money decrease.

Today is a beautiful day filled with bball and booze.

Nothing Doing

I don’t have anything to really post so I’ll make this quick. We lost in bball again, giving us an 0-7 record heading to the playoff game, singular. I airballed one from 13 feet, wide open. I can’t really explain why my skills have deteriorated but it’s becoming more evident year after year. We also have no height which hurts when we play against a 6-6 guy who has some talent.

I also deposited in stars again. I played 350 hands last night for a net loss of $3.50. I still have to grind out my bonus. I’ve been watching a couple cardrunners videos and I feel like my game at the stakes I’m going to play is superior. When I lose, and I look back on why I’m losing, it’s due to bad bankroll management and lack of focus. I just go on cruise control and don’t really think about what I’m doing. So it’s good I took a couple week break because I feel like I can play well again.

I watched the Graduate w/ Dustin Hoffman which apparently was a 4 star movie but I thought it was awful. It pretty much displays how stupid females are in the late 60’s. If you haven’t seen it I wouldn’t really recommend it.

I’m excited for the Wing Bowl tomorrow. I’ll try to get as many pictures with strippers as I can so I can post them on this site. These next hours after work should be fantastic. Today is like Friday so I’m pretty pumped.

New Schedule

We lost our bball game by 27 or so last night. The early line came out at 32 so we entered cover city. It’s just getting embarrassing but at least it’s almost over with 1 more game and then a playoff game.

I went to sleep at 10pm last night which is a rarity. I’m usually up to 2 so I was happy to get a good nights rest. For some reason I woke up 4 times during the night which I think starts to happen more often the older you get. I was having some weird ass dreams but I have, what I expect to be common, a problem remembering them.
