Sad Dog Face

This video should go viral. This was when reality TV was unheard of and this is 100% real footage. That’s not my sad dog face!

BBall Clips

I threw two passes and both bounced off our players. Aside from Bud and I, I’m not sure anyone else was putting the ball through the basket. I look like a complete ball hog but reference sentence 1.

Best Tips For Filling Up Your Gas Tank

An interesting read that I stumbled across. I can’t verify any truth whatsoever.

Petrol is becoming more and more expensive!

gas_0

My line of work has been in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money’s worth for every liter. Here at the Marian Hill Pipeline where I work in Durban we deliver about 4 million liters in a 24-hour period through the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and petrol, LRP and Unleaded. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 liters.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground.. The colder the ground the more dense the fuel, when it gets warmer petrol expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening your liter is not exactly a liter. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the petrol, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.

A one degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you’re filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you’re getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your tank is HALF FULL.

The reason for this is because the more fuel you have in your tank the less air is occupying its empty space. Petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine. Petroleum storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the petrol and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every liter is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a fuel truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy, DO NOT fill up – most likely the petrol/diesel is being stirred up as the fuel is being delivered and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.

Cheers to Cheers

cheers

I enjoy watching programs that have withstood the hands of time and have received critical praise. Cheers is constantly an answer to trivia questions and people who were adults in the early 80’s and 90’s all seemed to have watched it. Obviously the fact that its strong cast with Ted Danson, Woody Harrelson, Kelsey Grammar, and Kristie Alley developing into A list actors helped its cause. I’m also amused by the bar scene and the jokes are usually a play on words which makes the show intelligent. It’s rare that you get a show like Workaholics which can provide outrageous comedy and wit behind it (most people will overlook the latter).

Even though I’m only 2 episodes into the series, I can tell already that the show will only get better. It was almost cancelled it’s first season and then hit it’s heyday in the late 80’s which is why I wrote the first sentence. There is also something incredibly joyful from watching the introduction and hearing the themesong “Where everybody knows your name“. An easy feeling came over me each time I played an episode and immediately set me in a good mood for the next 22 minutes. This is the perfect length to sit down and watch a TV show by the way. 30 minutes with commercials is too much filler and an hour show can’t be squeezed in. 22 minutes is quick and hard hitting. I think the show has some 270 episodes so this won’t happen overnight but I believe that this is a series that I may follow through with.

The Drive

Oakmont-Country-Club-Hole-1-2-copy

I don’t share my dreams because I usually don’t remember them however this particular one stuck with me. It’s almost golf season here in PA and I’ve been getting antsy to play. The weather for March has made it difficult with a half inch of snow here or there and temperature typically in the 40’s. Yesterday finally almost felt like Spring had sprung (it didn’t) but I think that’s what had my mind turning to golf.

I was with a group of 4 and we were playing at a course completely unbeknownst to me, probably made up in my mind, but it was beautiful, green, and lush. The first hole was a majestic Par 6 that looked to be about 700 yards. There was a group of players who just teed off from the tips and were your typical aholes who thought they were way better than they were. This being the first round of the season for me, I hit from the white tee boxes to try to be respectful. Oddly enough there were 4 older gentlemen in lawn chairs who acted as the starters. When the group ahead of us got a bit out of range they signaled for me to tee off. A guy in my group was like, “He can’t go yet, TC can crush the ball 500 yards.” The old gentlemen started cracking up in delight. As I approached the tee box for some unknown reason I felt really rushed. I kept reaching around in my pocket until I came up with this enormous 2 foot tee. I started pushing it into the ground until it was mostly in but my ball was still teed up about 6 inches. I thought to myself I can’t waste anymore time and I better just tee off with the high tee. I took my back swing and was unbelievably off balanced but I kept going just because. Closing my eyes and swinging with all my might I swung my driver and clipped underneath the ball sending it shooting immediately up in the air. As I watched the ball my mind saw the ball flying way out into the distant fairway. If this was real life my trajectory was about as high as a building and distance was out of sight. Yet as I admired the ball traveling, the reality of the situation came into play and I completely hit a pop up and the ball barely reached the front of the fairway and rolled into the rough. The elders were cracking up and I hung my head in shame as that dream sequence ended.

I know there are people who believe that dreams can tell you something and I’ve given little thought to what this could mean. It’s like I’m aiming for the sky and going to fall completely short of what I’m trying to accomplish while being rushed to get there. It’s like I’m trying to arrive at my destination too fast and even though my mind has great ambition, reality doesn’t get there. At least that’s the literal sense for me.

How You Say It!

It’s not what you say but how you say it. This comment was made at brunch yesterday by Bill after a comment my dad said. Brookes said that Philadelphia is home to the most murals in the USA and my Dad said “I don’t know about that.” He meant his comment in disbelief but more truthfully it would be that he actually doesn’t know anything about that because in fact The City of Philadelphia, according to Wikipedia, “has more murals than any other U.S. city.” Now this normally wouldn’t be enough info for me to make a post about it but when I came home I turned on Arrested Development and watched Gob in these two scenes:

After hearing two various ways of making a huge mistake, I decided that how something is said is perhaps more important than what is being said. To top matters off, in the book I’m reading about laws to success, it was noted that “…it is the tone in which you make a statement, more than it is the statement itself, that carries conviction or fails to convince. No mere combination of words can ever take the place of a deep belief in a statement that is expressed with burning enthusiasm.” If those signs weren’t enough to make a post to the subject than I may need a 2×4 across my face to get the hint.

The idea to take out of this post is that you have to be careful with how the words you speak are spoken. The first example with my Dad shows a funny play on words that he didn’t even mean to happen. Stumbling into a play on words is generally a humorous event. The second example of Gob is brilliant writing by the people behind Arrested Development. It’s a damn shame that this show didn’t have the hit ratings it deserved because a cult following is still behind it. The final tidbit from Napoleon Hill is where the heart of this post lies. The words of what you are saying aren’t nearly as important as the emotion behind the statement. Being passionate about something and expressing that burning desire is an art form that most people 1) Don’t have and 2) Don’t know they have or 3) Don’t know they need. The laws of success deal much with a sales approach and to put it simply, if you don’t feel strongly about what you are selling, the people who you are selling to pick up on that. This is where language and how you deliver words will separate the winners from everyone else. Language is a funny thing and I promise you I’m not a very cunning linguist, but hopefully this post provided some humor and something to think about.

AMC vs HBO 9PM Sunday Battle

wdvsgot

In a big time clash of two of the most popular TV shows, HBO went straight at AMC’s juggular which is quite admirable. The Walking Dead’s Season 3 premiere brought in 12.3 million viewers compared to 5.1 million for GOT season 2 finale. With those numbers being so far apart you have to ask why HBO wouldn’t just wait until next week and compete against only the premiere of Mad Men? With all that being said I have seen every episode of each series and have developed opinions on each which I’d like to share.

I’ve found Season 3 of the Walking Dead to be easily the worst so far. I’ve read some opinions saying this is the best season but we must be watching different shows. The action is slow, the plot boring, the characters stupid, and I only watch it because I’m invested. Spoilers ahead so don’t read past here if you don’t want me to ruin it. Thank god Andrea is dead. The show really wanted to turn her into a prime character but at no point in any episode did I care about anything she did. Can someone also explain to me how she got out of handcuffs with pliers? I don’t think I’d be able to get it out if they gave me the key in that spot. Switching gears, The Governor kills most of the crew and the other two lackeys are cool getting in the car and abandoning the scene? Why did they flee the prison anyway? They had 40 people entering the Prison and got spooked by some smoke? Plus I swear in the beginning of the Season they said the group is about 100 people and after all the casualties they had a sizable army entering the prison. I also want to point out that not one person was shot during the prison raid which is comparable to storm trooper aim. Every Carl scene makes me hope he gets killed sooner rather than later. I get it, he’s turning into an unemotional monster. No one cares. The whole season was a complete let down in terms of how good Season 1 and 2 were. 2 ended with the awesome Shane scene and the whole farm escape, that was cool. 3 had nothing of the sorts. Major disappointment.

Game of Thrones was lacking in action for a season premiere which surprises me a bit. This doesn’t really bother me because I’m not watching the show expecting something awesome to happen every minute. I’ve read the books, understand the story lines, and watch to see how the producers have them play out. My brother watched this episode as his first episode ever and I’d think he was bored throughout it because nothing happened. Margaery being a total babe is nice to look at though. Tyrion is still dynamite in every scene he’s apart of. Davos and Stannis are sort of lame for a reason I can’t put my finger on. Daenerys’s storyline is coming along nicely and I’m anticipating the action ahead. Barristan the Bold is a welcomed addition to her party. Rob Stark appears on screen and nothing happens time and time again. Jon Snow and the Wildlings will create some nice action shortly. I think the show does a great job pulling the storyline at a pace that isn’t too slow and keeps it interesting. AS A WHOLE, this show is working at about a 9 of 10 and the Walking Dead limped in at a 6.

Beck Bennett says It’s Not Complicated

beckbennett

If you follow the NCAA BBall Tournament or watch TV in general, you’ve probably seen the AT&T “It’s Not Complicated” commercials featuring Beck Bennett and little kids. Beck provides deadpan responses to the kids usually run on answers to simple questions. I don’t think every commercial hits gold but there are a few that I personally like which I’ll note below. With these commercials populating as the best commercials airing, I was curious who the hell the guy in them was. With the help of Google I cam across his name being Beck Bennett, 28. This article from the Chicago Tribune was the most inside look into who he is. He’s an actor who hit stardom with these commercials and he’s had moderate success with his Youtube videos. I watched some of this other videos and they are pretty hit or miss. The one below is a spin off of talking to little kids and it’s has some appeal but 30 seconds of talking to little kids is about the right length and this is overkill. I actually wasn’t that fond of these commercials at first but they grew on me. I don’t think the ones with the retired NBA players are as funny.

Fresh Perspectives – American Debt

More – My personal favorite. If you really like it, you want more! Makes perfect sense. It can be used to describe tons of situations. Plus her first line of “if there’s more less stuff… than you might…. have some more???

WereWolf – How this girl can take her first sentence into her last is remarkable.

Candy Island – What about the animals?
