The Sun is Getting Too Close

By |2011-09-04T19:34:00-04:00September 4th, 2011|My Life|2 Comments

I completely understand, when you get older, you just don’t care about fashion. This picture is quite a find though. This was taken at Sam’s XC race and it stars my dad and another man with the same fashion sense. For whatever reason, JC thinks this is a cool look but to find 2 guys who equally appreciate this look, standing at this close of a vicinity, is something else. This is an ok color for a smoking hot girl in a bikini or for someone who wants to be seen in the dark but this color is just pushing it a little too far. Back when I was in grade school I used to rock a neon pink shirt that I thought was totally rad but that was back in the day when I could get away wearing anything. I thought this was a dandy picture though and wanted to share it. Any other people’s parents wear great clothes like these?

Wyncote Golf Course – Holy Heather!

By |2011-09-04T19:02:50-04:00September 4th, 2011|Golf Course Reviews|0 Comments

On Friday, Bake, the Shee, Ck4 and myself all decided to head to Oxford to play Wyncote Golf Course. This course holds some different invitationals and is also the place they hold High School districts in the Eastern PA area. It was about an hour from where we are in PA and the drive is pretty slow if you take US 1. We probably should have gone the blue route most of the way but we were following the GPS. The Shee managed to get a speeding ticket on the way there so for anyone reading this, you’ve been warned. At a ridiculously cheap price of 41 bucks at 11:24 on a Friday, we were pretty pleased.

The course was crowded but we still managed a little over 4 hour round. We played from the white tees and I think that measured something around 6,000 yards. The picture below is going to represent my biggest peeve with the course.

Whether you call it fescue or heather or cocksucking motherfucker, it’s everywhere. Probably on every hole you’ll find this high grass that gobbles up your ball. I don’t really blame the course for this. If you keep your ball on all the fairways and are close to the greens, you’ll be fine. Start to stray though and you’ll have a round like I had Friday. In total I lost more than 12 golf balls. This amounts to 12 penalty strokes and makes your score balloon. This makes the course frustrating and I was knee high walking through the grass all day. Nevertheless, I still think this is a good course at a tremendous value at 41 dollars. I wish I would have played better but I think I was about 108. The heather even had Bake come undone for a hole carding a 9 on a par 4 which is uncharacteristic. Ck4 managed a 10 when he was hitting from heather to heather and the Shee played the best out of all of us keeping the ball on the course. The course is well kept and the holes are challenging. I would like another shot at it but I wouldn’t make the hour drive to do so.

Man falls in Schuykill at bar in Manayunk

By |2016-11-02T00:12:09-04:00September 2nd, 2011|My Brain|1 Comment

Laura clued me in to this this news story about a man falling off of the deck at the bar into the Schuylkill river. This article says the Brew Pub but I’m pretty sure it’s closed for the time being due to the flooding. Laura must have heard the report because she said it happened at Mad River which I suspect is true. The article is good but the comments are better. The one guy wrote “maybe he was trying to get out from paying his tab” which I thought was witty. The other has “maybe he wanted more Schuylkill River Punch” which is a custom brew at the Brew Pub. I also like the one about “this guy will be in Sea Isle for the weekend like all the other losers who go to the Jersey Shore (this weekend)”. Laura texted me about this asking me if I was the person who fell in the river. Alas, it was not. This is probably pretty scary though because it’s dark as hell, that part of the Schuylkill leads into more Schuylkill which would make things extremely difficult. It says this guy held onto some kayak rack or something but I can’t imagine this being a fun scene. I figured I’d make this post to make everyone aware it isn’t me. I also think the word schuylkill is impossible to spell and is such a weird word to say.

Finishing people’s…

sentences. I know Seinfeld had a whole episode on a person who finishes sentences but I find myself doing it more and more in conversation. When I’m talking to someone and they stop talking to think about what they are going to say and as I’m following along I can sometimes think of the right word, I just jump in and interject with my word. I feel it’s sort of rude but I hate sitting there waiting for some r-tard to think of the word I already know and most likely mine will be a better word than they think of anyhow. I get the feeling though that people can start getting really annoyed. It’s sort of putting them down. I just can’t help myself though. I feel like it’s almost a compliment because I’m listening that intently that I’m actually thinking on the same level as them. Nothing really to this post other than this is sort of an unusual thing.

Life Update

By |2011-09-01T09:17:31-04:00September 1st, 2011|My Life, Sports|1 Comment

I’m going to be terminating insertnamesucks.com. I don’t have the motivation to tend to two websites properly. I have enough trouble updating this one. However, instead of letting that site ride off into the sunset, I’m going to update some of the posts and post them on this blog. To the 3 readers of that last website this will be a bit redundant, but I hate letting work go to waste. I might change the domain name of that last site and focus on some really specific category and dedicate a blog to that. We’ll see.

In other news, I went on a long run yesterday and did manage to run 10.5 miles. The pace was at 6:40 mile pace through 8 and that was a pretty good indicator of what shape I’m in. I probably finished the last 2 in 7:30 to 8 pace which was pretty lackluster but I’m about 5-10 lbs over ideal running weight and I can feel it as I get tired. Plus my shorts started digging into my waist and the lining was killing my thighs. Too much info I know. I haven’t officially signed up for the half yet but there are still 18 days to go. I feel like I can put in some good runs between now and then and be ready for it.

I know some people don’t care about fantasy football but some probably do. I had a second 10 person, non ppr, draft last night and I drafted the all-pro team from 2005. I picked Rivers over Manning which may have been a mistake. I gambled on Chris Johnson and took McFadden in the 2nd round. Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, and Miles Austin make up my WR’s. Owen Daniels at TE and the Packers D. I got Tim Hightower and Rashad Jennings as RB back ups, and took Carolina Steve Smith and Lance Moore as WR back ups. I think this was a better draft than last night and that stems from having the 6th pick instead of the 9th. We’ll see.

Storage Wars – Bowling for Dollars & Unlocked

By |2016-11-02T00:11:47-04:00August 31st, 2011|Tv|0 Comments

New episodes of Storage Wars aired tonight 8.31.11. It started off with my favorite characters in conflict. Dave Hester and Jarrod were squaring off in actual “real” reality tv. Jarrod was being immature and Dave got all up in his grill and basically told him not to fuck around with him while he was working. Dave’s actions were completely warranted because Jarrod thinks he can act however he wants and Dave pretty much put him in his place. What I disliked the most was Jarrod’s attitude to not say “I’m sorry” and acted like a tough guy looking to throw down. It was all good TV and just made me respect Dave more and Jarrod less. Brandi was looking good by the way.

This episode was pretty interesting in the bidding process. The animosity between Dave and Jarrod was apparent and neither wanted to let the other have the locker. They both sort of got the best of each other in the end. Plus it’s so obvious that Jarrod is the amateur, he’s starting to carry a flashlight around like Dave now. Barry is still hilarious expecting to find these hidden treasures in the random spaces of lockers. Darrell is actually starting to grow on me a bit because he does possess some knowledge. Dave thinking he got a million dollar violin was pretty funny when the cold hard truth was it was 100 bucks. The best part of tonight’s episode was the Unlocked portion though.

A few random things I picked up on:

  • You can still tell that Dave and Jarrod hate each other.
  • Brandi and Jarrod aren’t married but have two kids.
  • Everyone thinks Dave is an asshole which makes me like him more because he is the show. He makes the other characters better.
  • The characters get outbid on 20-30 lockers but they only show the ones they win. Also they buy plenty of lockers that have nothing in them but that never gets aired as well.
  • The new show in Texas will flop. The characters suck. This show will stop being popular in 1-2 years.

    Fantasy Football has Arrived

    By |2011-08-31T15:03:52-04:00August 31st, 2011|Sports|0 Comments

I had my first draft last night and somehow find myself in 5 leagues this year. It’s a bit overwhelming but I do find it fun so I’m not complaining. It was only a 10 team league and I thought I made out OK considering I had the 9th pick. At 9, I passed on both Michael Turner and MJD and went with Andre Johnson. Coming back Rashard Mendenhall was still around so I snagged him. I don’t see either of the aforementioned back having big years and I’m just not going to pick a RB just on name. This may have been a mistake but its what makes fantasy football interesting. I got Vincent Jackson in the 3rd round and Gates in the 4th. I know most people don’t draft Gates this early but he has the potential to be a top 10 leader in points among RECEIVERS let alone TE’s. If I didn’t get him then, someone else would get him. Romo was my next pick and I took Fred Jackson as my other RB which I wasn’t happy with but I chose him over Ryan Mathews, Beanie, and Benson. I got Brandon Marshall and Joseph Addai next and I think choosing Addai over Ryan Grant might have been costly. I did manage to get James Starks as another possibility at RB. The Jet’s D, Santana Moss, Lance Moore, Rashad Jennings and Pierre Thomas rounded out my team. There are certainly some question marks at RB but I felt like I got some depth.

I also watched the new Entourage on HBOGo. Not the one this past Sunday but the actual new one and it was horrible. It’s the second to last episode and the whole show is a mess. The Sloane-E thing is boring as hell, Vince’s love for the Vanity Fair writer seems so lame to conclude a 8 season series. Turtle becoming a millionaire because of Vince was a giant “who cares.” The whole show was pretty bad and I think it needs to be put to rest.

    Reader Submitted Joke

    By |2016-11-02T00:12:20-04:00August 30th, 2011|My Brain|1 Comment

A reader thought this was blog worthy. See if you can guess who?

A 4’5″ man walks into a crowded doctors office. He sees the doctor walking between rooms, and rushes up to him and says “Doctor, I think I have a problem. I’m slightly over four feet and have stopped growing.” So the doctor looks at the waiting room, then looks back at the man and says “I’m sorry, you’re just going to have to be a little patient.”

    Switching it up

    By |2011-08-30T09:39:36-04:00August 30th, 2011|My Life|3 Comments

I’ve made a few new life changes this past week. First being that I’m not going visit 3rd and Spring Garden anymore for breakfast. A story of my Uncles that goes way back is that he boycotted a restaurant up the street because they burnt his toast one too many times. I however am boycotting for a different reason. The panhandlers are driving me away. These guys feel like their entitled to my money because I drive an Acura TL. I’m not their friend. I’m not going to pretend that I am their friend and it’s not in my character to act like a dick. Thus, I’m never eating there again.

The second is that I made a deposit on Bodog. I only deposited 100 bucks. I’ve hit my first two baseball bets one of which was betting on the Marlins against the Phillies a few days ago and another last night betting on Kershaw’s gem against the Padres. I know this is almost unbelievable but I managed to win 500 dollars during the 4+ month football season last year betting practically every week. I by no means think I’m a winning sports better, and have lost in prior years, but my goal for the year is to never have to deposit for the rest of the season. I have 146 dollars in Bodog currently and I’m sure I’ll add a bet or two I make to the blog occasionally. I’m aware of one sports betting fact that took me a while to learn, the less bets you make, the better chance of success.

I’ve decided to do the Half Marathon in the middle of September. This is going to accompany a significant life change for the next 3 weeks of not drinking any alcohol. The bottom line is that I can’t train for a half marathon effectively getting smashed every weekend. I ran 3 miles in 17:27 yesterday and felt pretty strong. I know that’s a far cry from 13 but after getting in shape for the summer, it’s time to see what I’m made of. The goal is obviously 1:18. I intend to start doing some longer runs starting shortly and we’ll see where that takes me. I’ve also decided to stop drinking coffee in the mornings and maybe even try to eat healthier.

I also will visit Harrah’s a few more times to play poker. To win 2 buy ins in a 6 hour period at literally NO RISK is pretty encouraging. To play a session with literally no luck involved and winning 600 makes me want to go back. I hit plenty of hands and I know the cards treated me well but I was rarely putting my money in behind and when I did I usually had good implied odds to hit my hand. Bottom line, I feel like I have a pretty sizable edge at that game and will have to spend some time to see some results.

I feel like these changes in my life are all positive. Hopefully I will feel healthier, thus sharper mentally and good things will come. Basically we’ll see how good a sober me can be. People who know me probably scoff at this but it’s only for 3 weeks and I have come to the realization that I can’t take my potential to the next level filling my body with 20 beers each weekend. This half marathon will be my finish line.
