I’ve been going through my 161 drafts which were posts I started and never published. This one sort of leaves me scratching my head but I’ll post it anyway because it was going to the trash and it looks like I at least gave it some thought. I honestly have no idea what I was going for.

 

This world evolves with technology and you either evolve with it or you get left behind.  The landscape in 2015 is a far cry different than it was a mere decade ago with the advent of “social media”.  For some reference point:

• MySpace started in 2003.
• Facebook started in 2004.
• Youtube launched in 2005.
• Twitter started in 2006.

It’s worth noting that Google’s search engine arrived around 1998 which is the “real” start of information (not counting Netscape and AOL as a true search experience).  All of these methods share one important facet which is communication and the ability to efficiently share information.  With these companies producing products that enhance social networking , the lives of it’s users are opened up to levels never before seen.  The rules must change.

What do I mean by rules are no longer the same?  When my parents were in school I envision a picture where the camera weighed 100 lbs, a light had to be set up, and smoke popped out when the shot was taken.  People weren’t readily snapping pictures with their phones left and right.  There also weren’t “blogs” where a person can document any part of their life and share it with the world.  Maybe you had a journal that was read by you and only you but that was your only evidence of your existence from your point of view.  The ease of sharing information has altered the way the information must be interpreted.

That was where I left off in 2015.

What I think I was going for is that rules set back in the day should not apply to today and we need to constantly be changing. Take the Constitution as an example. The Constitution, with its 27 amendments, has been amended only 17 times since the first 10—which make up the Bill of Rights—were ratified in 1791. 

These rules are what govern our society and it’s safe to say that they are pretty damn good considering America is one of the fastest growing, richest (or poorest), nation there is. Who’s to say though that there shouldn’t be new rules? I personally don’t understand why females have to wear tops. Guys can go to the pool without a shirt but if a girl does it heads will turn. Sure there are nude beaches but here in America it doesn’t exist? Maybe 100 years from now no one will wear clothes? Who’s to say what is right or wrong. What I was getting at with the post is that time changes quickly and even more so with the advent of these new communication tools. I see why I never posted this post in the first place. It’s a topic that is too smart for me to address properly.

 

I think the site has gotten close to where it was. I have the comments on the top and the sidebar set up exactly the way I want. I can’t seem to settle on a font so if you hate this font, let me know. The banner at the top is pretty lame but I don’t have time to mess with that now . I’m leaning towards creating posts with feature images and excerpts instead of full length. I’m not a fan of making people click on individual posts so we’ll see. I’ve hardly been messing with the other post options like I did with the image carousel on the Hillary post, so that’ll be tinkered with in the future. This may be only me but the white space to the left of this text is driving me crazy and I have a support ticket on how to get it removed. I also have to change the H2 and H3 font.

I also will be a way for a few days so there will be no posts until Friday. I’ve had a lot running through my mind that I want to post which involves looking at society from afar. This comes with getting older and hopefully will make more sense when I make the post.

Putting Time In Perspective

I know this post will come off as similar thoughts on “i’m just one of 7 billion sheeple” but not to at least think about time in this way makes you stupid.

Dumb people tend to view events from a “holy shit, I can’t believe this is happening”, whereas people who read an article like this think, “our society is just one of many who have occupied time on this Earth.”

What Do I Make of This?

 

What hits home for me is the Jesus interpretation. Jesus was in the “small blue” area. He was just a bro in a small period of time. You’re talking 150,000 years of humans on Earth. Humans call this year 2016. Not special.

Your time on Earth is a spec. When you watch Hillary battle Donald, this is only two political human beings looking to run America. America is a space of land on the Earth where we live. The Earth is a planet that exists in a humongous solar system. Many people have been alive before you and there is a good chance there will be many after. Flying cars and artificial intelligence will be the future. There is a good chance that human beings either blow themselves up or global warming extinguishes everyone.

It’s flipping awesome that we are alive in the age of computers and can share information like this. The human race will progress at light speed comparatively. We are alive at the coolest time in the history of our world. Makes you wonder what the hell people did 10,000 years ago.

He dug up a post I created on 11/5/09 that you can read here about my thoughts on the sun visor in your car. I had to re-read my stance as it happened back in the ice age, but he sent this comment about the said post.

This post has bothered me since I read it, probably years ago. In my 23 years of existence, I don’t think I’ve ever disagreed more about anything in my life then I did about your remarks regarding the sun visor. We are getting into the season now where when I drive to and from work I’m constantly driving into the sun. I use the sun visor every day, and every time I put it down I think to myself “how can Tom not only understand the use of this brilliant invention, but to feel strongly enough against it to write a post about it.” It honestly blows my mind. The sun visor greatly increases my visibility while driving. I hope that since you wrote this post, your views on the matter has changed. I would appreciate an update post regarding this matter. I took a picture today while i was driving to work which I will send to you. I tried posting it in this comment but my phone wouldn’t let me. Hopefully the picture helps you understand the importance of the sun visor. If you do decide to write an update post, please post the picture and explain to your viewers how you could possibly think the sun visor is useless. Thank you for your time.

My Updated Take

First let’s all revel at the amazing camera of the Iphone. 125kb was sent to me through message (I since photoshopped the quality upward). I’m sure if it was emailed it would be better. My thoughts:

1. What the hell is going on in this picture? The Weens was probably going 25 mph, pointing his phone at the rear view and trying to catch this women having the entire sun blocked by her visor. Turn around next time so we can get a clear shot! Fuck the person’s bumper in front of you.
2. This woman looks like she’s against the wheel. I think I see her cheek touching the windshield.
3. I’m assuming his point is that the dark shadow covering her eyes is preventing all sunlight from reaching her and she’s able to see.

Have I started using my sun visor since I wrote that post 6 years ago? Absolutely not. There have been a few times where I’ve been blinded by the light but I decelerate and squint my way through it. I don’t disagree that sun glare is an issue, but I don’t use the visor. Still think it’s stupid and this photo between a man taking a picture through his rear view and a women who appears to be looking down while driving, make me think sun glare is the least of my concerns on the road. My firm stance is the sun visor takes up 50% of the windshield which makes it harder to see, not easier. I don’t mind if I’m alone on this one. If you’ve read this sentence, please vote.

Each Saturday for the next 16 weeks I’ll be releasing all of my plays and action. I’m sure no one cares but me, but I have done a lot of research so maybe you’ll be able to use a tidbit or two.

Bets

After hitting the Rice game last night for 2 units, I’m up 13 units on the season with a 5-1 NFL record (+21) and 1-3 (-5 units) in college. I’m aware that it’s +16 units but there is this thing called the juice which makes it so I’m not exactly sure how to record it.

MSU +7, Louisville +3, Miss +11, Parlay 1 unit – I woke up groggy this morning and heard the guy on Gameday saying he liked these 3 teams. Considering I know nothing about CFB, this is the only action I will give.

Browns +6, 4 units – Betting on the Browns, are you nuts? Home dog, new QB, and everyone and their mother think the Brown (or the Rams) are the worst team in football based off of one game. If RG3 were the QB, I’d tend to agree but Josh Mccown is legit. He doesn’t win (2-17 in his last 19 games) but he’s an improvement. I like the Ravens a lot in this game and I think they will win, but it’ll be closer than you think.

Lions -6, 4 units – I’m not convinced that the Titans are any good. They managed 16 points against a decent Vikings D but basically gave the game away with a pick 6 and a fumble returned for a TD. Mistake prone, against a solid Lions team that put up nice points against the Colts away, should make for an easy W.

I’ll most likely bet a 4pm game but we’ll see how these two go first.

 

DraftKings

I’m entered in the $20 big tourny (289k) , the $9 Slant (53k), 2 $20 3 man tourny’s, and a few $10 5 and 10 man. Cheap guys I like a lot this week are Tajae Sharpe, Danny Woodhead, Legarrette, and Josh McCown. Obvious plays like DJ, OBJ, Julio, DeAngelo, AJ Green, and Cam are sprinkled in a few spots. Non obvious players I’ll use are Lamar Miller, ARob, Greg Olsen, and Jesse James. I’ll also utilize a 2 TE stack in non-big tourney leagues to hopefully allow me a lower floor, lower ceiling play. I’m staying away from the Giants-Saints stacks which I’m sure will be bombarded across the site so I’ll be rooting against those points.

 

Fantasy

After going 3-0 last week I’m hopeful that my teams will continue to roll.

Wild Turkeys – I passed out during the end of the 49ers game but Carlos Hyde needed 25+ points to beat me and ended up with 22 so I narrowly won by 3. A win is a win though so no complaints. This week I’m playing Addasheee who is a tough opponent but I’m 7-4 lifetime dating back to ’08.. He has the edge already in week 2 with Decker going for 21.6 (+10 on projection) and I’ve already played LeSean and the Jets D who were -6 on their projections. Looking for big days from Eli, Jeffrey, Snead, DJ, Olsen, and R Jennings. Adam is sitting Emanual Sanders who I expect to come in for Jeremy Maclin. I also have Woodhead in all my Draftkings so that’s just the breaks.

Big Johnson’s – JKash threw out some casual trash talk which I thoroughly enjoy. It makes it that much better when I ruin his team. Unfortunately I’ll have to fade a Cam to Benjamin stack which will not be fun. He also has J Stew who is predicted to have a big game but I’ll believe it when I see it. He swapped out Tamme for Jesse James which also kind of pisses me off. I can’t decide between Jameis and Dalton. I’m also benching Maclin and playing Snead. We are projected at exactly the same total so it should be close.

Jameis Has Crabs – I got off to a hot start with LeSean and Forte combining for 40 points. I dropped the ball on Tyrod and went with Flacco instead. I have to fade a big time Giants stack with Eli, OBJ, and Jennings. He also has Cooks. I’m thinking the Giants-Saints game won’t go the way everyone is predicting and less points will be scored. I’m not too worried about Mike Evans and J Stew. My team is looking at playing Tajae Sharpe over Crabtree which I haven’t exactly set in stone. I’m a 5 point favorite at this point.

 

Eliminator

Panthers are the obvious pick and I will be on them.
