Superman takes his Flintstones Vitamins?

I sort of wanted this post to immediately follow my weakness post but I made that blackberry post so this is going to have to do. I’m typing this up at 11pm after waking up at 7 and working a full day, followed by a track workout, and then another 3 hours of a meeting about a potential business proposition, so I’m not exactly in the mood to do this. However, considering 229 unique people have visited this site in the past month, only of which 20-30 I would think are loyal readers, I will work through what I believe is going to be a good post. Off topic real quick though. I didn’t have my phone so I didn’t set an alarm this morning and the most amazing thing happened, I woke up at 7:00 am on the dot which is when I set my alarm for. I was in disbelief. Strangely enough I awoke to a scene from Family Guy when Chris threw a javelin through Meg’s arm…

At the urging of JC, he wanted me to take this test that relates to finding out a person’s strengths and weaknesses. This was completely new to me so it was funny how it worked around my blog topics. Now I sort of want to take this paragraph and devote it to JC because I could pretty much write pages upon pages about him. JC, my dad for those who don’t know, is big on self improvement. He is always looking for ways of bettering oneself through secrets to successful thinking, healthy lifestyles, and new enhancements to try. JC is a salesperson’s dream. If you can get him to think that the product or service has any positive spin on living a better life, he’s all about it. He takes about 10 supplements each day and always has a new motto he’s preaching. The funny thing is, you’d think he would live the lifestyle of Jesus Christ with the amount of knowledge he has about living the right way. I don’t really need to go into detail but let me just say that he doesn’t always practice what he preaches. A lot of my wild side is taken directly from JC’s genes and I’m a mix of him and my mom’s prudence. So if you know how wild I can get, that’s watered down compared to him.

So he wanted me to take this test to identify my strengths. Hilariously enough, the book has a unique code in the back of it that you have to cut open to enter the code in the site. Well the reason he wanted me to take it was because he didn’t realize that you had to cut open the packet to get the code so he couldn’t figure out how to take it himself. He is really being brought into the internet age kicking and screaming. I could devote entry after entry to this but maybe later. So at his urging I spend 20 minutes taking the test answering questions about hard work, ethics, future thought, and mainly just about my value system and at the end it spits out 5 traits that they consider your strengths. I want to share each one, it’s short description, and then what I think about it. This is my blog, thus my self reflection and you can stop here if you have no interest. The 5 traits were responsibility, analytical, discipline, consistency, and individualization.

Responsibility – People with a responsibility theme take psychological ownership of what they say and do. They are committed to stable values such as honesty and loyalty. As much as you yearn to be #1, you might realize cheating is unacceptable. Your integrity demands that you say what you mean and mean what you say. Your compliments are hard-won and genuine. As a result, people really value them.
I found this to be along the lines of truth. As CK4 can attest we play the fairest rules of beer pong with no bouncing, no deathcup, no ball bounceback, which shows the respect for rules. I am always adverse to cheating and that’s why you’ll see me end up with some 11’s on my scorecard. My praise isn’t the easiest to earn which is why I tend to point blankly point out faults of others. I seem to find more fun in telling people how bad they did something opposed to how good. However, Jkash was questioning my praise on his entries to UrbanDictionary and I once again giving him a pat on the back for being recognized.

Analytical – Driven by your talents, you may have little difficulty finding the right words at the right time to express what you are thinking or feeling. Maybe you can present your concepts in a reasonable, orderly, or methodical way. As a result, some people might say you know how to get your ideas across to people. Because of your strengths, you may be sought out for advice by individuals who appreciate your methodical thinking style. To some extent, your approach prevents people from being distracted by their own or someone else’s emotions. Perhaps you help them concentrate on the facts more than on their feelings.
I sort of felt like this one was Psych 101. I really don’t have too many people who seek my advice for much so I can’t claim that all of that is true. I would like to think I give a realist viewpoint and won’t beat around the bush. I just paraphrase the analysis but it also mentions being good with numbers and I’ve learned that some people either are awful with numbers, or just choose to ignore them when making business decisions. From reading the journal each day, I think I have a better grasp on how much 1 million vs 100 million vs 1 billion is than probably 95% of the population, which my guess would have no idea how much things in that amounts of money are worth.

Discipline – You set up procedures and guidelines for completing your tasks. You use these approaches with regularity. You probably experience less success when circumstance or people prevent you from relying on the methods that work so well for you. It’s very likely you characteristically are unsentimental and realistic, especially when you must plan how to do something efficiently, reliably, or predictably time after time.
I personally think JC has instilled some of this discipline in me. The guy literally has 10 lists going at one time and writes down everything in his follow up book. I feel like he just likes making the list sometimes more than actually completing whats on there. But these are all good things for being organized and actually completing something. He’d tell you I do a pretty good job, but could still do a better job. He’s probably right.

Consistency – Perhaps you favor the company of those who avoid conflict or refrain from spreading rumors. Chances are good that you sometimes recognize that certain individuals appreciate your practical, straightforward, or realistic way of thinking. You understand that you cannot win every contest, and now and then you even prefer to share honors with certain people.
I thought this wasn’t a bad analysis. I liked the last line because even though I’d prefer winning over losing, I really could care less about the outcomes of most things (if my money isn’t on the line).

Individualization – You now and then delight in helping people. Perhaps you hope they find your companionship pleasant and choose to spend more time with you. It’s very likely that you may update certain individuals about current events. Chances are good that you may want to offer your assistance to people.
I almost felt like this paragraph was speaking about my blog. I never thought I was doing this to help people or update them about current events, but now that I think about it, why the hell else am I writing this at now 11:45 so that you can type in my web address and entertain yourself for 10 minutes. The individualism trait might also explain why I prefer the company of myself and dislike the rest of the population.

I know that was lengthy and if you got this far I’m shocked that you would read an in depth personality test about yours truly. As avid readers of this blog you are learning more about me than I probably know about myself. I also want to point out that everyone will be honored at the end of this test so I hope I didn’t come off like a douche saying how good I am.

Blackberry

So I received my “new” (refurbished) phone today and got everything set up with email and all the likes but I believe that I didn’t have my contacts saved to my sim card but rather to the phones hard drive? Meaning I swapped the sim card and it still isn’t picking up my contacts so I’m going to try to get the contacts off my old phone through my computer but most likely that will not work. Essentially I don’t have your number and if you ever want any contact from me, you should either call me or text me who it is. Over time I will accumulate numbers and it’s not like this is the end of the world. Also if you read this and know why I’m not able to pick up numbers from the sim card or how I have to transfer them over, any info is useful. I also lost you as a bbm contact. I should have a pretty lengthy post tonight and I always feel bad writing these essays without any breakups of pics or anything but stay tuned.

Weekend

It cracks me up when Ck4 says things like “I can’t wait for your blog post about the weekend.” I’m thinking “dude you’ve been with me for virtually the entire weekend and there’s nothing that I did that you don’t already know about so I’m not sure what you expect to read that you don’t already know.” It was a pretty standard weekend with us playing golf twice and going out to the bars on both Friday and Saturday. We hung out in Northern Liberties on Friday and Manayunk on Saturday. There were some interesting stories but none that I really find blog worthy. I intended to write about one but decided to go with plan B. I pretty much just feel like Monday and I have a decision to make at the end of this week about the 10 miler in Sea Isle. I’m not in any good enough shape to make me feel confident that I can do the race with any degree of seriousness which makes me think that just bagging it for a fun weekend is the better choice. Doing it though would be in the best interest of my body because I would have to abstain from alcohol all the way up until Saturday evening. I’m still on the fence.

I also broke my phone by putting it in the same pocket at my golf tees and either a tee or my key went through the screen. I don’t even mind not having a phone on me at all times. Aside from not getting my emails, I don’t have to worry about picking it up or doing dumb things when I’m drunk. The insurance program is really good though and I’ll have a new “refurbished” phone on Tuesday. This means that I lose all my blackberry messenger contacts which is annoying but I don’t really use it that much anyhow.

I thought True Blood was pretty good aside from all the gayness. I feel like nothing really happened but they just keep building the suspense to all the story lines. Entourage wasn’t bad either but they are just killing me with Turtle. I still can’t understand how he has such a main storyline. Drama steals the show and I obviously find Ari entertaining. The Ocho show was pretty lame and I’m starting to grow disinterested each passing week. He’s too nice to the girls. He should be hooking up with all of them and creating major drama.

I wish I had more to write about but this is what happens when you aren’t that exciting.

Thursday Mad River

Traffic to this blog has been up lately so I just want to thank people for viewing it. It was Chad’s idea to thank the readers but he added that he doesn’t like giving credit to anyone other than the creator which is fine. This is going to be a quick entry because I don’t have much going on but Big Steve and Ed came over to get a first hand look at Mad River Thursday’s. Much to my chagrin the crowd was pretty lame and the girls were slim pickens. We did do a few mind erasers and on my way back I got a hot sausage and cheese fries. The women who works there sees me wasted most weekend nights so she accommodated me with a free soda (wa-hoo). Not to much to go into detail with other than it was a pretty standard night. I woke up with a moderately bad feeling but I feel ok now. I just wanted to post something because the more you post, the more people visit.

What I spend my money on

I find this to be an interesting topic because I don’t keep real close track of my funds. I pretty much just get whatever I want to and try not to splurge while trying to save as much as I can. I’ve been working full time for 5 years now so I’ve been able to save some cash but certainly not as much as I should have if it weren’t for the tendencies that I will describe below. I’m not going to bore you with my fixed expenses like rent, my car, and regular intake but give a look into my extra finances.

– Alcohol takes the cake as my #1 money waster. Whether it be a specialty case of Great Lakes or Guinness, 30 packs of Coors Light, a handle of Goose or just blowing cash at the bar, I spend a ton of money on alcohol for the year. I would probably estimate closer to two tons. I’m not the kind of person who is like “lets get a six pack and hang out.” It’s more like “let’s each get a case and see who can finish it first.” If I could somehow get back all the cash I’ve spent on booze throughout my drinking life, I honestly believe I’d have 25,000 more dollars in my wallet.

-Tips will equate to less than the booze but this is another money spender. I’ve wrote about this before but I find myself becoming more and more accustomed to tipping. Today not only did I tip the guy at Dunkin Doughnuts $0.46 cents but I gave the girl at this sandwich store a buck. WHY?!?!? I have no fucking idea, it just seems like the right thing to do and I hope the people who I’m tipping appreciate this small sum of money more than I will. In the grand scheme of things, I’m probably doing the economy a favor because the more money I keep, just goes to money waster #1 above. I guess I think that tipping will make the person who you are tipping look at you as a kind person because it shows that you are thinking of others. I also tip dealers at casinos, valets, cabbies, and people who carry my luggage and golf clubs. I’d guess over a K a year in tips.

-I overspend on food for Breakfast and Lunch. I eat both meals out everyday. Breakfast costs me 4.00 at Dunkin Doughnuts and 5.00 at the place I get a Bacon, Egg and Cheese. Lunch costs me about 10.00 for a sandwich or a burger, bag of chips or fries, and a drink. This amounts to about $75.00 dollars a week or $3,600 dollars a year.

-Clothes probably cost me about 1-2 thousand dollars a year. I will upgrade new Polo’s each year, new pairs of shorts, new socks, new boxers. I’ll also need new work shirts and get a new suit every couple of years. New shoes are about every 6 months and that is only the shoes I wear out. Running shoes are extra. A revolving wardrobe is essential so that the people you hang out with don’t always see you in the same attire. It’s not really a big deal but after people see you in the same thing and then realize they’ve seen you in the same thing, they must ask, “does he ever buy new clothes?”

-Gambling probably costs me about 2k each year. I probably win a bit in poker and lose a bit in sports betting, casinos and at the track. This is a rough estimate and probably varies year to year but I really don’t think that this sum is too outlandish considering the entertainment that is derived from it.

-The extras probably amount to another 1-2 k a year. These include strip clubs, rainbows, new electronics like headphones, mice, monitors, laptops. Vacations get thrown into this category.

So I’ve just gave a rough budget of how I live my life and what I spend my money on and that didn’t even include my rent, car and living which is probably somewhere around 15k. These extras added up to about 15k or so. That’s 30k it takes me each year to live the lifestyle that I’ve grown accustomed to. Meaning I have to make 45k just to maintain. How am I saving money? Another amazing fact is that my parents paid for my college, how on Earth would I be able to pay that back in a reasonable amount of time? If I came out of school with 100k of debt I honestly would insta-chapter 11.

I really don’t feel that I live that extravagantly. Of course there are areas that I could cut back on but then I miss out on this thing called “life” that I’m trying my best to enjoy. I work 5 days a week and I’m just spinning my wheels. I’m in the rat race with no end in sight. This is why people play the lottery, the stock market, or gamble. Most people aren’t ever going to make enough money to do everything they want. Sorry to say but that is the honest to god truth. I think our economy is in bad shape and I expect it to get worse in the future. I’m pulling out all my money and putting it into Sirius radio.

Get Sirius!

Sirius came out with their earnings this morning and they have continued to add subscribers and actually had a net income of 15 million compared with a loss of 159 million last year for the quarter. The stock was up 5% pre market. I’ve been touting this stock on my blog for a while now and I think it’s finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not to late to buy the stock and obviously not to late to get away from that horrific AM/FM that the zombies of the nation listen to. It’s funny because I hear my mom and her reasons for not switching over and they include “I like the radio and I listen to CD’s and my Ipod”. AM/FM is a complete joke filled with the same music and commercials out the ass. CD’s are a thing of the past. An Ipod only plays the music you’ve downloaded so it’s never anything you haven’t heard before. Get Sirius! I’m not sure if this is the slogan they use but they certainly should. Once again more proof that I can make it in marketing.

Sam and I were reviewing his traffic to his blog last night and amazingly almost half of his traffic is derived from people coming from my website. Talk about helping a brother out. That’s a funny line by the way. Good to know that the loyal viewers of my blog keep it in the family. Adam always tells me that Sam’s blog is better, but until his traffic numbers surpass mine, I’m crowning myself. Sam and I get along pretty well and our blogs can feed off of each others. We said we’d look for more referring sites but it’s hard because I don’t want to just throw links up there to trash pages. I’m not really sure how but eventually something will come of this website.

I’m also starting to get this feeling of depression that Summer is coming to its end and people are getting ready for school again. When you don’t have school any longer there’s never a shocking shift to another type of lifestyle so I have to feel it through others. I really enjoy Summer weather and I dread the thought of the cold months that lie ahead so I think that has some bearing on me as well. I don’t miss treadmill running one bit but I’m not as strong in the Summer because of the lack of weight lifting I do in the Winter.

Last night I went home and was complaining to my mom how the customers at work were bothering me, people weren’t returning my phone calls, my feet hurt, and I had nothing in the pipeline. She starts singing…

I’m thinking, jesus, add nagging and baggage and we’re all set. She’s just looking for some effort on my part to find a mate (caveman terminology) and I just don’t feel the rush. Some people are so gung ho about getting married and having kids that it scares me to want to add responsibilities to my life. I like not having to wake up on the weekends until 1. I like the freedom of Rainbow Spa if I choose. I like money not flowing out of my wallet to feed extra mouths. Now, I can change any of these thoughts at a moments notice but I’m not going to pretend to like someone just to have the feeling of having someone by my side. I legitimately get along and like most people, however, there’s a difference between liking and getting along with them than really liking them. Plus I can be timid, goofy, awkward, and miss obvious signs, so that doesn’t help. I just figure, when it’s right, you know.

I close with a good song.

Harrah’s Chester

Evan and I decided to check out the Harrah’s in Chester now that they are running table games. We got there at about 3 and it was only a convenient 30 minutes away, I thought the facility was pretty clean and they even had a race track with live races going off. We started off playing blackjack and had one of the funniest dealers I’ve ever played with. They hired one of the dumbest people on the planet. However she was really nice so I didn’t have a problem with her. Her adding was atrocious and whenever Evan got blackjack she’d say congratulations like it was the crowing achievement of his life. I went up about 300 on her and then a cranky know-it-all came and rocked us for a bit. I left up 107 dollars. I than put 20 bucks on the 6 horse to win and he got 2nd. I blew a few bucks on video poker and bought a few drinks so I ended up walking out virtually even. The clientele is pretty scummy and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are fiending for action. It’s worth checking out though if you are into those sort of things.

I took two notable pictures from the weekend.

No blackout?

So I pretty much had a weekend where I didn’t black out and I must pat myself on the back. Going about weekends like this is far superior than the alternative. Both nights I was golfing earlier so that delayed my drinking time til at least 9 which is what proved to be effective. Just to harp on this for a second, I was 97 both rounds and Chad beat me by 2 each day and I think he’s surprised that he beats me but all I can say is that it’s just a round of golf and when I play the game, that’s what I’m doing, there’s no real feeling of competition when I play golf. If I get a snowy on a hole, c’est la vie. I’m way too inconsistent to feel like a good golfer and one of these days it will come together. On a side note I did beat him in beer pong 4-2 and then he beat me 2-1. Our 1v1 games are usually pretty epic and winning means something. I will also add that I drank 13 beers during these 1v1 matches in a 2 hour period just to give everyone an idea of how to consume alcohol.

On Friday night we went to Mad River and Frost said he could drink more mind erasers than me and obviously I don’t back down from someone calling me out on my drink of choice. One of my favorite bartenders were working there so we were getting reasonable prices and ended up doing 7 mind erasers before close. I will give Frost some credit for hanging because that was a nice display of being an alcoholic. I was trying to make some moves but the girls weren’t having it. I went up to one and told her “you are the prettiest girl in the room” and even that didn’t work. We went to the Brew Pub the next night and I just find that talking to girls is like pulling teeth sometimes. I initiate the conversation, I ask relevant questions and these girls are just like “stop inconveniencing me.” I’m thinking, I have a job, I’m in shape, I’m even willing to talk to you, what are you looking for? So I ended up fine both nights and actually had a decent time so I’m happy that I successfully drank without blacking out both nights. This is a rare Sunday post so stay tuned for Monday and I’ll start the week right.

Blah Blah Blah

People are whining that I haven’t wrote a post in a few days which is fine but I try not to flood the site with pointless material, even though everything’s pretty much pointless on here, but at least I feel like the material has some entertainment value when I want it to. I really can’t write much about the weekend because I don’t remember all that much. I’m actually a little disappointed with myself because I’m still playing with fire and it’s only a matter of time before I get burned again. I woke up on Sunday with a bath towel covering me instead of a blanket which as a Baker said “was odd.” We played golf on Saturday and I was pretty hungover and then started drinking on the course which had me spraying balls all over the place. I thought I hit the ball pretty well but when you give away 8 strokes from penalties off the tee you can’t score well. Apparently I picked up two girls numbers over this weekend but the one Jkash reminds me of, I don’t really recall. The second was some Asian girl who wasn’t bad but the communication barrier was a bit tricky. My real problem is that I make a good impression on people after 6 beers but tend to move into creep mode after about 15. CK4 tells me my moves at Mad River on Saturday were ineffective and creepy more so than anything suave. This is actually causing me to give some thought to developing a device to limit the amount of alcohol. Or I could just attain celebrity status with the idea told to me by multiple people to just wear a camera on my head when I go out. Jkash’s comments of not only would the footage be dynamite (taio shout out) but the interaction with people with a camera on my head would be priceless. I also want to put Hafer’s name in this paragraph just so he doesn’t feel left out.

Standard Sunday Tv night as well with True Blood, Entourage, and the Ocho show. I found True Blood to be a bit slow and the gay scenes are really not what I want to be watching. Entourage was sub par and I really hate writing that I dislike the Turtle plot lines but I’m going to keep at it just to hammer the point home. Ocho was entertaining as usual as you get a glimpse of how catty some girls can be. I really like Tara as well because I feel like there is nothing going through her brain, and she talks like nothing is going through her brain, but she has some pretty witty zingers.

Some other news that no one cares about. I finished 16th out of 1906 people in a 20 dollar tourny when my tens lost to another person’s tens. I ran pretty well but I think it’s pretty evident that my poker game is starting to find some success. Just navigating fields that big and coming up with a spot to potentially take it down should be a bright spot of things to come. Here’s some music too that I find pretty good at the moment.

Pop music that will hit the airwaves in full force I would assume.

M.R

So I went to the bar saying that I was only going to have 2 beers and 2 mind erasers. By 10pm I think I exceeded that. Mad River hired one of the prettiest girls I’ve ever laid eyes on and I made it a point to only order from her. She didn’t know what a mind eraser was but at least she was attentive when someone needed something. I had to say to the one other girl “do you see me standing here?” and even that didn’t get it done. I’ve become a mind eraser snob and if they don’t pour the drink right I’m just not happy. I really want to see 3 layers to my mind eraser and if it’s all mixed up, I feel as if they should redo it. Towards the end of the night I thought that J-Smashed was pretty hammered but the guy can recover on a moments notice. He went from swaying around to making some moves on some female in a about 2 seconds. The band was pretty good and even though I didn’t make any worthwhile moves, it was still a decent night.

I also signed up at bluefirepoker.com and started watching some videos from Phil Galfond. I deposited on Stars again too so I’ll be putting some time towards poker to try to eke out a profit to pay for my now expensive mouth. I won’t bore with poker details though. The 10k is on Sunday and I plan on not doing anything this weekend. Like literally staying inside my room and not getting myself into any trouble. I’ll probably play poker and read my book which is probably a nice change of pace from what I’m used to doing. I’ll even feel good come Monday. This will also mean some weekend posts so stay tuned.
