That’s Fine

It’s come to my attention that I use the phrase “that’s fine” on a regular basis. I suppose whenever I agree with something it just turns into a “that’s fine.” It’s one of the those things that you don’t realize you do it until someone points it out and then you realize how often you do it. Nothing more to note other than a phrase that becomes stuck in one’s brain. I actually think the phrase is a fine statement. Maybe I’ll start saying “ok”, “no problem”, “for sure”, “no doubt”, or “absofuckinglutely.”

Pretty ho-hum weekend overall. Got wasted on Friday to the point that I was past the normal point of buzzed. Jkash says that I get so wasted because my sober self is shy with talking to girls and the more I drink, the better I get (in my mind). It’s probably a valid point and getting that smashed doesn’t improve any ability with the ladies. The bombing began when Jeff came over and him and I were the main contributors to killing a 1/5 of this Three Olive RangTang vodka which I don’t think I can recommend as a good alcoholic drink. After some mind erasers at the bar, that’s all she wrote. No incidents though so I must have had some sense of wit to me. I’m sure anyone who saw me would argue otherwise.

Saturday was also a pretty standard. We played Bucks County Country Club in the afternoon and I shot an 84 even with being surrounded by some hackers. Ck4 even managed to card a 13 which was a pretty impressive display of ability. Anyone who plays golf would agree that isn’t easy to do. I was pretty much in play all day and was bombing drives down the middle which made the course play a lot easier. I will say however that I almost drove two par 4 greens (one with a 5 iron) so this certainly isn’t the hardest course out there. Ck4 and I also elected to play a nice course on Sunday called Raven’s Claw. It was voted top 10 in PA by some magazine so we went in looking forward to the round. I ended up with a 104 and he ousted me with a 102. 20 shot swing in a day is a bit bizarre but the difference was just keeping the ball in play. I hit some bomb drives but was just ending up in ditches and different areas of the course. The main difference between hacker courses and nice courses is the rough. You can’t hit 200 yard 5 irons out of the rough on this course and the cabbage was just not fun. I did almost drive a 300 yard par 4 again, but alas, only got a par because I’m a tard. The course was really nice though and even though Chad would say he didn’t think it’s that tough, the greens are surrounded by bunkers, plus tons more fairway bunkers and doglegs make it much more difficult. We even had a funny scenario where a guy in our group duck hooked one into a house and broke the guys window. He gave him 40 bucks, but we were all skeptical because no one heard any glass shatter and we thought the guy was pulling a scam.

I know people probably don’t love my golf posts but I really didn’t do much else this weekend so that’s what I write about. I’m looking forward to 5 days of good living and getting in shape for this half marathon the 3rd week of Sept. I get my tooth put in on Thursday so I survived the 3 months of eating only on my right side. All in all, made it out of this weekend alive and feeling well which is a nice change of pace.

Hiatus

After a few day hiatus I decided to make a post. I just got too wasted on Saturday night and was writing about it and decided that I was tired of writing about the same BS, so I took a few days off to recover. I’m feeling perfectly fine again and will continue this blog as usual. Just to update on a few things that have happened to me in the past few days. My keychain broke and I moved my key to another chain. Since I have two keys, I unwittingly placed the spare key on the new chain and now my car automatically moves the seat to the settings set on the spare and it’s been a complete hassle. When I find my driving settings with perfect mirror views and seat adjustments, I get highly annoyed when it shifts. Also in the parking lot today, I was making a left hand turn after a stop sign and this bitch in her BMW, babbling on her blackberry almost blasted the back of my beauty of a TL. This was the closest to an accident I’ve probably ever been and it was a cowboy move by me but she should have applied the brakes once she saw what I was doing. I’ve read that people texting while driving are more dangerous than drunk drivers and I probably believe it.

I wish I had more to write about but after I wrote that I wasn’t happy with my weekend and I was going to cease posts, I got some texts and bbm’s concerned that I must have fucked up again, which wasn’t the case. I’m still walking a tight rope but I’m hoping to come around. Apparently at the bar I was making out with some girl (a grenade most likely) and Evan found me on a stoop somewhere along the walk home with my head between hands. This is what caused me to re-evaluate things and say that taking away this blog would act as a punishment to me acting like a buffoon. But naturally come mid-week I’m feeling good and in good spirits once again. I ran 12 miles in 1 hour 15 minutes which was around 6:15 splits. This was about 2 minutes faster then where I was in April so I’m expecting a good time come mid September for the Philly Distance Run. I’ve been waking up early and have had some good days at work so I will keep at this blog and hopefully gain back the daily readers with more updates. My golf game is coming around late in the season as well. I was 42 on the front last Saturday (should have been 40) and finished with a back of 49 but had so many missed opportunities that if I could just keep it together for a full 18 I should be mid to low 80’s. I’m really just happy to be well and will live these next few days the best I can.

The Bayou

So I got an email from the Bayou that read “Manayunk is back for the place to eat, drink and be merry and the Bayou is ready for you. The Bayou Bar & Grill, located in Manayunk, Philadelphia, has been one of the premier bars for nightlife since it’s opening in 1993. The Bayou is the oldest bar on Main Street and has been the central figure of the Manayunk bar scene. With over 25 TV’s, 3 bars and every sports game package that there is, you can enjoy any Philadelphia sports game or you can enjoy watching whoever your favorite sports team is for that matter.”

Now there’s nothing wrong with this description but if I were doing the review, it would read something like this:

The Bayou is the oldest bar on Main Street and we haven’t upgraded it since we started. We are certainly not a premier bar because we lack the space to be one. We have 25 TV’s but most are less than 17″ and the bigger ones are Panasonic’s. Our atmosphere is cramped and we only have a few bathrooms. When too many people come to our bar, our bathroom lines are out the door and people spill drinks on one another in close quarters because it’s hard to move. The bar usually fills up quickly downstairs and then people start filling in behind and have to get drinks by reaching over seated patrons. We have tables outside for eating but they are right in the middle of the sidewalk so you are constantly being passed by interrupting pedestrians. We hire mostly male bartenders because we don’t understand that guys spend more money at the bar and prefer female bartenders. Our staff will generally serve better looking females before serving males. We have a staircase that should be roped off because drunks are prone to fall down it. Sometimes we invite groups of people for open bars and claim that we serve top shelf liquor but when they ask for something even as lowly as Jack Daniels, we bait and switch them with Evan Williams. We laugh when someone asks for Grey Goose at our top shelf open bar. Our food is mediocre at best but it’s dirt cheap so no one complains. We do have the cheapest beer on main street though, which is another reason people put up with the above. All in all for a cheap, average experience, come to the Bayou.

I actually think I can write a series about the bars in Manayunk with realistic reviews.

Fate and Dependency

I got a text this morning from Evan saying he had a good night in AC. Now we’ve discussed this concept before but I find it so unthinkable that I figured I’d write a post about it. Earlier in the day I sent an email saying that I didn’t feel like going out on Thursday and I was just going to stay in. He was deciding whether or not to go out around us or to go to AC with a Hafer and Hetrick. Now since I decided that I didn’t want to go, this was a factor on why he chose to go to AC instead of Manayunk. If I would have wrote an email saying I wanted to go out, his fate and fortunes could have been entirely altered. Also, say I decided that I wanted to go to AC instead of work, well me being there would have changed all the cards that came out and the end result. Sometimes it just boggles my mind the way things work out and how the slightest change of mind could alter an entire series of events. It’s sort of like the Simpson’s when Home goes back in time and steps on a bug or something and life is completely modified because of that one event in time. Sort of makes you scratch your head and wonder what and who you are effecting with everything you do.

I watched the Jersey Shore last night and came away with a few thoughts. For how clueless Sammie is and how easily she changes her mind about the relationship just shows how stupid a human being she is. The guy obviously doesn’t take the relationship seriously, and not that he should within that environment, but for her to be so naive to think that he will is what I don’t understand. One minute she says it’s over and the next she’s dying to care of him. Plus, I like watching Ronnie get the wasted because that makes me happy that it happens to everyone. When he tried to get up and went head first into the wall, that brought back memories for me. The way people develop dependencies on others is always weird for me because that’s not the way I live. I guess I’m more independent and a loner than looking for other people’s help to do things.

We’ll see what happens this weekend. I’m going to run today which would have me putting in over 30+ miles this week which is more than I’ve done in a while. Leading up to the half marathon I would like to get up to 40 or so. We are playing Golf on Saturday and other than that I don’t have much going on so it’s going to be a winging it weekend. Happy Birthday Matt Baker.

Thursday Normal?

Work was nothing out of the ordinary. I came home and ran 7+ miles at 2 and a half minutes faster than I did Monday which proves what dehydration and too much alcohol does to the body. I also had dinner with my Mom which has become our routine. I plan my schedule around this dinner rather than fit it into my schedule. It should be a necessity that you see your parents on a regular basis because you should appreciate the time you can spend with them when they are here. The restaurant we went to had a 5 dollar theme where I ordered a salad, a burger, and a pitcher for 15 bucks. I finished 60% of the salad, 90% of the burger, and of course all of the beer. I think the pitcher probably had about 5 beers in it so I’m sure my mom was impressed I finished it by myself in an hour and a half and then drove home. I’m sure people are shaking their fingers at me but I’m really such the alcoholic that I’m 95% sure I was under the legal limit. I enjoyed it for the 15 dollars and I’m contemplating whether to go out tonight. I’ve been feeling really good and I hate to disrupt that by drinking too much tonight and feeling like hell tomorrow but we’ll see.

Your Youth

When I look back to my younger days I realize how joyous and carefree things were. My dad would pay me 6 dollars a week to take in the trashcans and at the time this was big money. If I saved up a few weeks I’d have 20+ dollars and then I was on top of the world. I’d never have to spend money on food because my mom would make me breakfast, lunch and dinner. We used to ride bikes all around the neighborhood. Play all types of sports like bball, baseball, soccer and even games we’d make up like the Charles Haley (yes we had a game after the great linebacker) game and Wilburn. Games like manhunt were great neighborhood fun. What’s the great thing about all these time spenders? They are all free! Entertainment didn’t come from spending money at the bar or gambling to amuse oneself. Life when you are young is so much better that until you have to start fending for yourself, you don’t know how good you had it. The worst parts of youth were getting your parents mad at you. I remember my dad used to flip when I forgot to take the trash cans in because it was my only responsibility. I don’t really see the point of parents getting mad at their kids because the kid is too young to understand exactly. Obviously I’m not saying to let them get away with everything but it’s a growth phase that you have to constantly keep reiterating points rather than getting upset. My parents were always nice about it but I’m sure I took a few spanks to the rear end.

Now I spend my time trying to get Verizon to bring my bill down or figuring out how to sell more roofing tools. This isn’t fun anymore. My day yesterday was fun but it still cost 55 bucks to play a round of golf. My brother wrote a post about his job and in a half days work, he can’t even afford to play one round of golf. And he’s ecstatic to be making that much money! Carefree youth is finished and it has to be one of the harder things in life realizing that you are only going to get older from this moment. There’s nothing you do about it other than look back, be fond of the good memories, and do your best to create more good memories so that 10 years from now I’ll write a post saying how good it must have been to be 26.

Also notice I used 2 ! points in this post and I bet if you looked through my 300 posts you wouldn’t find more than a handful. I remember sending the Rock one text that I mistakenly used an ! instead of a ? and I wrote immediately I wouldn’t use a ! to describe anything. He knew something was amiss. I pay really careful attention to detail when people are writing things and just how they do it. I’ll use a few examples. Bud Schmidt, my good friend from my youth who partook in most of my games above, will start every sentence with a capital letter and end every sentence with punctuation regardless if it’s an informal email or text. I myself do the best I can with my limited knowledge when I write this blog as perfectly as I can, but I will skimp on texts if it’s a short reply. I also try to make sure my spelling is always correct. I believe this attention to detail displays that you take things seriously and you do your best to not make mistakes. Now the people out there with their c u l8ter’s and oh I <3 u sooooooooooooo much, these people like to stomp all over the English language and show why our country is being surpassed by other nations in intelligence. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with these people they just don't put much importance on proper communication, basically thinking that if the other party can understand it, that's good enough for me. It's strange too because you know they weren't taught this way so why do it? It's like a rebellion against authority. Since I probably just put down half of the people who read this blog I'm just going to stop before I get into deep.

I also like how I put up that poll on the right sidebar and only got one reply and that was me. As Sam and I discussed, getting reader involvement isn’t as easy as it looks. I’m not asking for much, just a simple click of a yes or no and then vote. I had the most visits ever in a day yesterday so I know people are reading this crap. The site doesn’t trace anything and you will remain anonymous and even if I knew you read my blog, what’s the big deal, I’m happy you do. I’ll continue doing so until I reach a point where there’s no more reason to keep it. As long as it keep reaching highs, I have something to shoot for.

Reader Material

So a reader decided to send me something and said that I could add it to my blog if I wanted to. Naturally I’m pleased that someone wants to help me out with quality material.

“Thought you may find this text message exchange amsuing. This took place yesterday during the work day. Feel free to use this conversation however you see fit.”

Me (11:43 AM): I’m thinking you should come over later tonight.

Her (1:40 PM): If I say I can’t tonight, are you going to use the bat on me? Tomorrow or thursday maybe?

Me (2:17 PM): I won’t be around the rest of the week or weekend after tonight. You’re rolling the dice if you don’t show up tonight…I at least need head.

Her (2:21 PM): So you want me to change my plans so I can give you head? I’ll see what I can do

Me (2:23 PM): My dick can’t suck itself.

Her (2:27 PM): Ok fine
Her (2:52 PM): Plans changed. I’ll see you later tonight

Me (2:53 PM): Nice response.

This is obviously good material and I will be happy to add anything of the likes that show women bending over backwards not to get hit with a bat.

Feeling Good

I took the day off to go golfing at Talmore Country club with Weller and CK4 and I enjoy days like these like no other. First off, I wake up completely sober and feeling good which differs from every weekend. Plus I know that it turns it into a 4 day work week which is also nice. Finally, I imagine this is how people who are independently wealthy live their life. They wake up in the morning, do what they have to do, play a round of golf and just enjoy the day. Day’s like these are what I would like to have as part of my repertoire.

I’m going to go through my round hole by hole so just stop reading if you don’t like golf. I decided to keep the big stick in the bag today and just try to stay in play. I hit my 3rd shot on a par 4 from 75 yards to two feet to par the 1st. I was back green in two on the 2nd hole and made bogey. 3rd whole I was errant but found it and made bogey. Par 3 4th I was on and made par. The 5th I hit a rocket of a drive but hit my 2nd OB and ended up making bogey. Bogey on 6 and then a triple on 7 when I hit a PW 145 over the green into some bushes. I played 8 and 9 in regulation for pars on both and a 42 front. Fine drive on 10, nice approach shot on and a dreaded 3 putt birdie opp for bogey. 11 I hit a bad 2nd shot into some marsh greenside, bad chip, 3 putt for a double. 12 was a par 3 that I hit on and pared. 13 was a hard par 5 that I made bogey on but misplayed with a poor 2nd shot. 14 was a par 3 that I should have parred if I could chip but made bogey. I played 15 in regulation for a par. 16 I was long behind the green and made a 7 which could have been better. 17 I made bogey but a good chip would have given me a good chance at par. 18 I hit a drive onto another holes fairway and hit a 2nd shot to a green side water. I dropped and ended up making bogey for a nice 88 and my best round of the year so far. It’s pretty obviously that I play better when I’m sober and I was happy to play well on a nicer course.

After golf I called XM and got them to charge me $60 dollars for 6 months of service instead of $212 for a year. I just called and told them that it isn’t fair that they give their promotions to new customers when their existing customers have to pay full price. Then I said what happens if I cancel my service and what’s going to happen? You are going to send me notices at a reduced rate to get me back so you might as well just give me the better rate now.

After that I ran to the track and did 3 miles at 5:49 pace and a couple of quarters after that and then 6 minutes of a stair workout. I bought some new shoes that are wider and they really are more comfortable and I wonder why I haven’t been wearing wider shoes for years. I also signed up for the ING Distance Run which commits me to doing it and gives me about a month to get in half marathon shape. I can probably finish 6 or 7 at 6:00 pace which is my goal pace, but I’m a ways away from finishing 13 at that pace. I just need to keep myself running daily and not taking days off from being too wasted.

I really feel good about things and I’m hoping to get a grip on my life and rectify some mistakes I’ve been making like drinking too much and throwing away money. I’m trying to turn over a new leaf here and I’m hoping things will improve for the better for myself. I’m also going to attempt to be nicer to people because I’ve taken a view in the past that the majority of people are idiots ,but I will also begin to give them the benefit of the doubt and let them prove to me they are idiots before I assume so. I’m looking forward to work tomorrow and getting some things handled that have been looming in the wings.

What I did on my Weekend

I left work a bit early on Friday to drive to the shore and play golf at Cape May National. It was Ck4, Baker and I and the first time I’d played the course in many years. I was pretty impressed with the layout of the course and it certainly was a challenging one. There was heather all over the place and if you didn’t keep your shots in play, the numbers were going to add up quickly. I was 43 on the front (1st hole mulligan) and felt like I was playing pretty well. My irons were on point and my short game was better than it’s been recently. I couldn’t get off the tee at all because I’ve developed this duck hook which came into play big time on the back. I ended up with a 54 on the back which probably consisted of about 5-6 lost balls. If I would have used my 5 iron off the tee instead of the driver, this all may have been avoided. It was still a fun round though but I was pretty discouraged to shoot high 90’s with a 43 on the front. I’d give the course about an A- for value and playability.

After golf we drove to sea isle. I probably had about 6 beers before we went out and a gulp of Smirnoff that I immediately regretted after I did it. I was fine though and we went to the OD for a decent time. A funny correlation was made when Baker was saying how much classier and attractive the girls are in Avalon. What he wasn’t taking into consideration is as the class and attractive level go up, the chances of scoring go way down. Personally I don’t really mind the Sea Isle crowd. So I woke up on Saturday, had a few beers, mixed some Vodka and Gatorade to bring to the beach and enjoyed a nice beach day. At around 5 we went to the OD for their no shower happy hour and I probably had another 5-6 beers. I met this one girl who was apparently by herself and I ended up buying her a shot and she was holding my hand through the dance floor so I figured this should be an easy conversion. However when I tried to dance with her from behind she just kind of wasn’t into it so I figured if she’s not going to dance like a slut then my chance with her probably isn’t that great. So I failed on that and went back to the place. After that not to much eventful took place and I passed out at 9pm not to be awoken until 9am. So I pretty much wasted a night out there but it’s for the best because nothing bad happened. I did jack shit on Sunday and now it’s back to Monday. I actually did play in the Sunday Mill yesterday and finished in 1700 when 1260 cashed. I had AK lose to 9T that would have almost guaranteed me making the money. I feel like I play well but get nothing to show for it time and time again.

For the Sunday TV recap. Entourage was average again. I don’t mind the whole Ari – Lizzy thing. The Turtle side plot is really dumb and I’m going to keep pointing it out. I don’t really mind them bringing Billy back but the Drama cartoon is sort of stupid even though I like Drama. True Blood was a pretty good episode. I’m not going to go to much into it but I like what they are doing with Crystal and that side and not really giving away too much info. The Eric Northman – Russell showdown should be good. I think the question to what is Sookie isn’t too bad either. I just think it’s a really good show with many good storylines. I’ve also continued to watch the Ocho show. He finally got some action from one of the girls and then ends up kicking her off. He’s doing a decent job of weeding them out and I’m hoping Tara pulls it off because she’s easily the most entertaining.

No New Friday Post O RLY?

So I took a 2nd place in a 12 dollar 180 man tourny last night for 400 bucks. That put me 50 shy away from being even considering the money I’ve deposited in the past 60 days. Lots of time spent for not a lot of return. Actually negative return in this case. After that Evan and I went to Bourbon Blue because they were having a deck opening that brought about an open bar. So it’s mayhem at both bars but they have this one hidden section where someone was filling up shots of some fruity girly drink and they had a keg flowing. I probably drank somewhere between 10-15 of the shots and another 4-5 beers. The girls there were looking very nice by the way. At 9 it was getting close to leaving and the openness was no longer at the bar so I bought two beers and a shot of Jameson before we left for Mad River. I ate a pretty damn good BBQ Bacon Burger at Mad River and accompanied that with a few beers. They had some Smirnoff – Grey Goose taste off which of course I wanted to try. I did choose the Goose as the preferred alcohol which I was proud of to display my true alcoholic tendencies. Full Effect was the band and their lead singer Picasso and Jkash have a unique bond together. At 11:30 or so I was pretty bombed and knew that I had to get out of there before something bad happened, so I did. I’m here at work now writing this post and it’s literally a dead day. I’m leaving early to go play Cape May National and then head to Sea Isle for the weekend. Should be fun.
