Ice and Running

The roads in Manayunk and Philly were perfectly fine, although the driveway was pretty icy. There were only a couple spots that even had ice patches. I guess because I live with a weather maniac that the weather gets blown out of proportion, but MY weather forecasts begin when I walk outside and not 48 hours before. Predicting weather seems pretty dumb in my opinion. Lets spend time watching weather models and then guessing what’s going to happen. And then when we are guessing, we’ll get all worked up over what MIGHT happen and base our life decisions on these predictions. I live in the present and I base my decisions on present conditions. If I wake up and turn on the news and see traffic accidents and problems all over, then I’ll know what I’m dealing with. If I watch the NAM or GFS for 24 hours straight, I still won’t know jack shit.

What I can’t understand is how people go running outside in this weather. I get that there is dedication to exercise and how people feel the need to work out, but there is a fine line of sanity. A goal of exercising is not to get hurt and what better way is there to go running on Kelly drive, at 6am, during a icy rain storm in freezing temperatures. I just look at these people and think that this is one of the reason’s I will never understand some people. One misstep and you can twist and ankle, break your back, or just get physically injured from something that should be avoided.

I’ve wrote before that I don’t run outside in any weather under 50 degrees. Even 50 is a stretch. I prefer 90 when you go outside and instantly break a sweat. That’s a good workout. So as long as I avoid heat exhaustion, I’m not getting hurt. I (not me) even will go as far as bundling up to run out in 30 degree weather is normal. Wearing shorts in 30 degree weather is complete stupidity and any one who does can instantly be labeled an idiot. But running outside with ice on the ground is easily the stupidest thing you can do. It’s one day out of the year, run on a treadmill if you need your exercise that badly. People are made to do stupid things. It’s in our nature. It’s how you learn.

My biggest pet peeve is still missing the trash can with trash. It happens on the reg. I’ll drop something from 5 feet and a gust of wind will take it to some foreign area. Then I’ll have to go pick it up in complete frustration. Seriously this is the most annoying thing I can think of.

Ship It!

Quick entry before sleep. I managed to ship a $12 dollar 180 man for $594 today. After the W, I proceeded to donk off $75 in 4 sngs but did cash out some and will continue to try to build the roll. I sucked out with 88 vs 99 in the beginning and then again with A6 vs AT to survive. I got to the final table practically last in chips and tripled up with 33. Then I got it in with 22 vs A7 and then with AQ vs A9, both holding. I went into heads up a 2-1 dog in chips but flopped a flush to quickly turn it around and ended it with AK vs JK. It’s good to finally win won of these and I’ve been watching a lot of videos and have confidence that I’m going to turn in some other bigger scores.

After my win I decided to go to the gym and literally got he A1 parking spot right next to the handicap spot. So I’m thinking life is pretty good at this point after getting completely blanked at work today. So I’m top of the world at this point and I see this girl who I’ve noticed a few times before and decide what the heck. So I walk up to her and say “is your name Melissa?” (I was pretty sure she worked at Summit park when I lived there and sort of remembered her name.) She said, “no.” I said, “oh.” I awkwardly walked away and stayed on the opposite side of the gym. You can’t win em all.

I’m going to give one final thought for documentation purposes. I suggest buying the stock MOBI at around $7.00. It is the largest virtual app store in China and they just partnered with one of the largest web portals. Hundreds of millions of Chinese need to be entertained and apps are the newest, cheapest form of entertainment. Don’t say I didn’t tell you so.

Ice Storm on the Way…

Instead of a typical early February snowstorm, we are about to witness a catastrophic ice storm (well maybe not for Philly itself or the immediate suburbs). Locations in the vicinity of 40 – 50 miles North and West of Philadelphia will get the worst of this storm as a very severe cold air damming situation is setting up. The effect known as “the wedge” is the most widely known example of cold air damming. In this scenario, the southern storm system will bring warmer air with it above the surface (at around 1500 meters). This warmer air will ride over the cooler air at the surface (also known as “overrunning” precipitation), which is being held in place by the high pressure system to the north. This temperature profile will lead to the development of freezing rain or sleet, depending on the exact depths of the warm and cold layers. A thinner cold layer will lead to conditions favoring freezing rain, whereas a thicker or stronger cold layer will lead to sleet. Ice storms are extremely difficult to forecast, as the difference in less than 10 miles can be the difference between a much more manageable heavy sleet accumulation, as opposed to a very dangerous freezing rain accumulation. One of the known weaknesses and biases of the computer models is to underestimate the amount of low level cold air “locked-in” at the surface. For this reason, the computer models sometimes depict a warmer solution as compared to what actually occurs. Currently, the NAM and other short range models have shifted slightly colder in the past few runs, while the GFS is consistently warmer. I would think that the cold air hangs around slightly longer than the models indicate and allows for around a 0.25 inch freezing rain (ice) accumulation in and around the Philly metro area before a changeover to rain Wednesday morning. The Lehigh Valley will probably get the worst of this storm with localized 0.50+ inch ice accumulations. This will cause power lines to come down and make for virtually impossible driving conditions. As we all know from this winter, tomorrow morning may bring a completely different view of what will happen, but that is the fun of understanding and studying the weather!

BBall and Snow

We played are 2nd game in the Ambler BBall league last night and came out with another W against a pretty decent team. With Ck4 back in the lineup we had a little extra offense compared to last week. Bake carried us in the first half hitting shots from all over and Ck4 (who keeps exact stats) had 20 in the 2nd half. We were up 18 or so at one point and ended up winning by double digits. Their team had 3 decent players and then a bunch of role players but just didn’t have enough fire power to beat a team where everyone on the court knew what they were doing. It was definitely a good team victory and gives us a bit of momentum moving into the next game. At the foul line I managed to airball the first shot, short and left, and then not catch iron on the second. It was really embarrassing. Honestly though, after airballing the first shot, it’s hard to have a whole lot of confidence about the second.

The snow is coming down now and it’s going to make it difficult to head into work. It’s just not worth the risk of getting stuck, especially if we are going to be getting more this afternoon. To quote Ck4 and his weather geeks, it seems to me that the weathermen are always “out to lunch.” Where are the people who are letting you know that it’s going to be coming down as hard as it is at 7am. I read late Wednesday evening. Anyway, it gives me some time to think about my next site project. I worry that it might be hard to maintain two sites but I don’t have too much extra going on. The to and too is so annoying. Every time it’s also, I think too. If it’s I’m going to do something, it’s to. So if you see me doing it wrong, point it out. Like is there a comma after wrong there?

Last Post

I’m not a total moron and when I write the post about the books I just read, I’m well aware that in such a small audience, most people probably have no interest in reading that type of post. I’d actually be surprised if you read the post and had no idea what the books were about. That would just be weird. My basic idea is that this site avg’s about 30-40 people a day depending on the day and if say maybe 2 people have read those books, it’s relevant to them. So for my site I create posts that maybe <5% of the people who read care about. What I'm doing is describing why a personal blog, at least mine, isn't going to get any significant traffic. I'd have to find a theme and then concentrate on one area and generate traffic from a specific group of people. My plan in the next week or so is to buy another domain name and basically start a new website with the aforementioned idea. I haven't really given this idea too much thought but I think it might be something fun to do and maybe even give me some direction. I'll try to pick something that is constructive and hopefully entertaining to the select crowd. I think I just have to come to grips that rnningfool.com isn't really going to get me anywhere.

This thought process sort of stemmed from Laura telling me that my life isn’t that much more entertaining then most and widespread attention isn’t going to happen. It isn’t even the attention I’m looking for but just the fact that if you create something and it generates interest from people, that’s fine by me. I know that is pretty much what attention is but I have no desire to be famous, just to have people who care about information provided. I completely understand too because when I put myself in the readers shoes, why on Earth would I want to read a blog about some random person and the life they lead. They must have something seriously unique with them to maintain a blog that random people would want to read. So unless you personally know me, you aren’t going to spend your time on my site. I, unfortunately, am pretty normal aside from my ability to get way too hammered and do stupid stuff. I’m not really going to change anything in the way I write this blog and will continue to do so. I know the title is misleading but when I started writing this I meant for it to be about the last post I wrote below. Nothing will be different and I will keep rnningfool.com viewers updated with anything I do.

Another Weekend

I have nothing of real interest to write about as this weekend was just sort of blah. I played a fair amount of online poker which led to virtually nothing. I was up a couple hundred and finished with nothing worth talking about. The weekend in terms of partying was pretty bland too. Nothing really happened on Friday and Saturday we had our football team banquet and there really aren’t any stories worth noting. Our Bball team blew out another team in the Manayunk league which we are beginning to see might be a bit of a joke. It’s really hard to tell what kind of a league you are signing up for. Ambler is just right in terms of skill level but the Yunk league seems ridiculously weak. When compared to the Springfield league when he went 0-8. I’m starting to get the impression that the Manayunk Sport and Social is just not comprised of very talented athletes when season after season us above avg athletes are winning league after league. By no means I’m I writing that we are so good we are unbeatable but to win league after league, with mainly just athleticism, is just a surprise. We aren’t that athletic.

I’m not feeling 100% but probably better than past Monday’s. When I compare the Thursday-Saturday drinking to not drinking, obviously the not drinking is the better route in terms of health. Not to mention that I haven’t been to the gym since Wednesday and being lazy completely gives up the hard work I put in last week. The poker really sets me back too. I understand how people who grind tables get completely out of shape and useless. It’s not a healthy recreation but to make any strides, you really have to put in the hours. So I’m sort of trying to balance exercise, with poker, with being healthy and if this weekend was any indication, it’s going to be difficult. I’ll go to the gym today but this it’s not going to be a good workout because I feel dehydrated and lousy.

Sammi from Jersey Shore is coming to Mad River on Tuesday and I’m 100% considering a pass. I get the feeling that not that many people are buying tickets because they are trying to give them away. I like making guesses like that because I honestly have no clue how many people would buy tickets to do what, look at Sammi? It’s like when we see the owner of a bar bartending, to guess that the business isn’t hugely profitable seems reasonable. Guessing on things like this is how rumors get started, which you have to be aware of.

JKash alerted me that my writing is usually filled with poor grammar and I never got A’s in English so that doesn’t surprise me. I just throw commas in if I think there should be a pause. I honestly found that section of my schooling to be quite boring. I think it’s amazing I can form sentences as I do. I think it would be a good idea if I took a creative writing course and then shared the ideas with this blog. Yeah, that’ll happen…

Mad Fun

So Ck4 was real excited to go to Mad River last night after a stint in Seoul. We got there at 9 or so and I probably drank 8 or so bud lights before 11. I was pretty buzzed when the band came on but the crowd was average at best. So I just stand there trying to act cool and I was approached by a couple girls. The first girl was maybe a 5 and she basically started grinding up against me and being weak willed I obviously obliged. So after a few minutes she turns around and does the head tilt going in for a make out session. Well there’s hardly anyone around and I’m not completely wasted yet so I just kept standing there and she eventually left. Towards the end another girl, probably a 7, asked me why I have my hands in my pockets and I had no idea I even did but I started talking to her and after a little bit that eventually went no where. Laura said that I talk a big game about picking up random floozies at the bar but I think we all know that the amount of girls that come home with me is negligible. Even though I say that I’m trying to pick up girls at the bar, which I am, that doesn’t mean I’m any good at converting them back to my room, just to clarify. So after the night CK4 and I got a taxi back and now I’m at work on Friday feeling like shit because of last night. When I compare how I feel now to the fun I had last night, I’d still pick the fun but days like these I just wish would end soon.

After proofing this last entry, I know that was an abrupt ending but I think I just got tired of typing about nothing.

Parc

Laura and I went out to dinner last night which was nice because we tend to go periods of time without seeing one another. It’s one of those things that if no one makes an effort, nothing happens. I met her in the city after work and let her choose the restaurant. We went to Parc which unbeknownst to me was a Steven Starr restaurant. I thought the atmosphere was good because it had an upscale feel to it but had no problem with casual attire. Being my sister, we know each other fairly well and conversation isn’t really an issue. Somehow conversation led to her to telling me I’m cocky and insecure which at first, like anyone, I go into defense mode, but maybe she had a point. Her reasoning was that my cockiness was a defense mechanism because of my lack of long term female relationship. Every once in a while it’s useful to talk to someone who is completely real with you and will give you an honest opinion so I appreciate any input from her.

So we ate a steak and some fish and the meal was pretty well done and tasty. I went straight to the gym afterward which is always difficult to work out after eating a big meal, but I did the best I could. I’m still in pretty good shape and am getting ready for the Frostbite 5 miler which is a pretty fitting name for me. I’m looking to break 29 minutes which with good training I should be able to do. After the gym I went home and played some poker. I went 0-7 in cashing and then final tabled a 12 man 180 with a 6th place. It was the 2nd time I final tabled it in 3 days and the 3rd time I got it in ahead (AQ vs KJ) and had my opponent flop trips AI PF. If I won that pot I’d be looking at 2nd in chips and one of the better players at the table (cockiness…) I’m really playing well and it’s just bad luck of going 0-7 with no cashes but once my luck turns I’ll see better results.

Pressure Point

We have this new game called Pressure Point and it’s a pretty entertaining game with lots of laughs. The players will remain nameless to conceal any embarrassment. Basically the game gives you a category and you have 10 seconds to name as many things related to the category as possible. Examples of categories are “things that are green” and “words that rhyme with lip.” The twist of the game is that the other people playing have to guess how many of that particular category the person guessing will name. There’s a point system that’s decent and overall it’s a pretty fun game. So just a few highlights and where the “real” fun in this game comes from. The rules can get hazy because the opposing players are the judge of whether the word should count or not. A few examples of how the game gets heated. Category was rhymes with luck. So Player 1 was rattling a few off and then said “ruck” followed by a lower toned “us”. Now after using his phone it was confirmed that ruck is indeed a word but the person saying it didn’t know this (he would say otherwise). So now if I guessed he would get 6 and he said 7 and ruck was included in that 7, and I start arguing that ruck shouldn’t count because I want to instill firm rules, but the other players think I’m doing it so it benefits me (you get the amount of chips if you guessed correctly the number the player actually got.) So another example was things that are white and Player 2 said the ocean and I was arguing against this and naturally the answer I’m arguing against, if they agreed with my argument, would match what I guessed the player would answer correctly. So obviously you see how this game could lead to people accusing people of manipulating and so forth.

The real highlight of the game came from Player 1 and his answers. Category was cities that begin with R. Once the timer started he was blank for about 5 seconds then blurted out Randolph. When myself and player 2 heard that answer we instantly started cracking up. Towards the end of the ten seconds player 1 also came up with Rhode Island. Just a hysterical round to lead to a clear 0 points with no argument from anyone (the counter you use to guess has a minimum of 1 so the 0 throws everything off.) Literally 1 round later the card that player 1 gets is cities that start with L. I show the category to player 2 and we just instantly start laughing. Player 1 hits go and flips the category over only to come up with Louisiana as his first answer. It really is a hard game though because it puts you right on the spot to start thinking of answers and once you draw a blank it’s hard to get rid of. It’s another game where it’s hard to judge too, like scattergories because one person may know something unique and if the other two don’t, it gets rejected. Fun game though.

Name Game on Sunday

So my sports betting is finally Warrick Dunn. I had a good run through the entire football season, cashed out 500 bucks, but currently have 0 dollars in the account. I really have no urge to deposit more money and to bet on games so that pretty much Natrone Means the season is over. I was actually cheering for the Eagles on that last drive and that was with no money even on the game. Tomorrow is going to be a sad day in Philadelphia.

I feel so much better today than most Sunday’s and it’s an easy explanation. I only drank one night this week instead of the usual 3. I feel good and will be able to live a normal week starting on Monday which will be nice for a change. Ck4 is predicting a snowstorm mid week so I may have another weather entry if he decides to write something up. I’ve tried to explain to him that there are tons of knuckleheads out there like him and if he just starts his own weather blog he’ll be able to develop a following. I think he tends to Stevie Nix the idea though. I personally wouldn’t mind some snow breaking up the week though.

I’ve decided to do the frostbite 5 miler, mainly because it substitutes a non drinking event into a weekend. I’m going to have to extend my runs a bit because I’ve because I’ve been quitting between 3-4 miles so I’m going to make a better effort for the next two weeks. I couldn’t understand but my weight fluctuated between 170 and 180 and I thought that was a pretty wide range for no real major change in anything, just day to day to day. I’ve also noted I hate cold and my Eric Frostbite gets really annoying when I run outside. We also have to get ready for bball because I haven’t played since the Ambler league and we start this Sunday. Should be interesting.

I’m also going to give a review of the Biggest Night ever on Showtime. I can’t really remember how they were describing it but it was Californication, Episodes, and Shameless. All the episodes were average and Episodes was one of the worst shows I’ve ever watched. Completely awful. I don’t know how people can watch this show and think it’s good. Shameless wasn’t too exciting either but better than Episodes. Californication was what I expected it to be but lacked some of the witty dialogue and outrageous behavior I’ve come to expect. The girl is unbelievably smoking hot though. Sorry about the lack of names, I forgot.
