Everyday things

I’ve gotten myself on a weird sleep schedule. It’s 2am now and I’m not really ready to go to sleep. This may be because I slept from 530 to 900. Which in turn was caused by sleeping from 2pm to 7pm yesterday. I also think I made the mistake of going around drinking from opened water bottles because I think that I’m pretty much immune to germs but as it played out I got what I would describe as a sore throat, not from a cold. It’s like bacteria hanging out in the back of your throat bothering you every time you swallow. I have no cold symptoms though and I expect it to go away tomorrow.

The weekend was pretty typical. I pretty much stayed in all weekdays and was feeling really good on Friday. I went to the gym after work and then met the challenge of the wagon for beer pong. He won the best of 7 series in 6 games even though I hit the last cup in game 6. Then he won the best of 5 in 5 games. We wagered 10 bucks total which was a big deal to him considering getting him to spend money on anything other than the necessity to survive isn’t easy. After that we went to a bar and I was pretty buzzed and somehow started making out with some random chick. With no intention of bringing her back I abruptly left mid song and without saying anything just left. Probably didn’t do much for her self esteem but it seemed like the right thing to do. Then I went to another bar by myself, creepy I know but when you’re 15+ beers deep, logic and reason are dismissed. I chatted it up at this bar for a while with some randoms but alas went home by myself.

I woke up Saturday feeling fine. Won a 12 dollar 45 man tourny for 150. I used the profits to play a 55 hu sng and lost. Then went to play bball at La where me, bake, and Jkash were the only white guys. We picked up two and ended up winning 2 games against some brothers which obviously surprised them a bit. The constant arguing over the score and rules make the games take forever but all in all they are decent runs. We have a game this Wed so hopefully we can chalk up a W. Saturday night I wagered a hundo on a 3 fighter parlay on the UFC card. Naturally it hit because UFC favorites usually don’t lose. These have to be profitable to people who watch this because the best guys just don’t lose. That won me 231 dollars so I put 160 on the bengals which didn’t cover. Then I put 50 on the Birds which did cover and I hit a 25 dollar parlay to win 65 on SF and the Under tonight. That tallys me at -50 for the 13 week football season.

That pretty much sums up my last couple days of no posts. Since I’ve won a couple bets I expect to degen it up for a couple of days trying to hit a hot streak. This is basically the last full week of work before a few days off kick in. My dad has been coming back to the office here and there so that’s some relief.

I didn’t get a chance to watch Californication but I caught Dexter. I’ll write about them tomorrow. My brain is kind of jumping around a bit right now and I’m hoping I can go to sleep to get back on a normal schedule. A final thing, I finished the John Grisham book the Associate and it’s the 2nd thing I’ve read by him that had a disappointing ending. Good for 250 pages and the end just absolutely blows. Any good book suggestions are appreciated but if it sucks, I won’t forget it. I think I like literary books (1984, catcher in the rye) more than these novels put together in 5 minutes.

A final final thing. I’ve been wasting my time with sporcle and think I know more about music than most. Prove me wrong. Can you beat me? I finished with 136 and would have had 2 more if I could spell.

Presentations

I don’t necessarily have a fear of public speaking, but it isn’t really my favorite thing. If it’s as simple as standing in front of a crowd reading from index cards, I can do that. They prepare you in school with 3-5 minutes speeches starting in middle school and then you move on through to high school with various presentations. My first speech was on Babe Ruth in Mr. Leslie’s class and it was a real bore. I spent hours making these charts displaying how many hr’s he hit each year and I didn’t even use them as a prop. My next speech was a demonstrative speech where I showed some yo-yo tricks. This one was a lot better and I even repeated it again in college. I still remember how to go around the world, rock the cradle, walk the dog, shoot the moon, and other various ones. I had a speech in college where I was speaking and literally forgot everything. I stood there shaking being that “guy” that froze up and couldn’t speak right. It still haunts me to this day.
That’s background for my next topic. If I have to ad-lib off the top of my brain, houston, we have a problem. A huge fear of mine would be to go in front of a crowd as a stand up comic, with people watching, and then trying to entertain them with jokes. I don’t tell jokes. I can’t tell jokes. I’m not sure if people have a database of jokes in their brain that they can just use anytime. Not me. I remember having a dinner with a bunch of work related people who I never met before and this one random guy was busting out these knee slappers and everyone was in tears loving it. I’m sitting there thinking, “the only joke I know is why can’t stevie wonder read and I don’t think this is the time or the place.” Do people sit in their rooms memorizing jokes just so they can be a huge hit when it comes to social situations? Even if I know a joke, I will mess it up while I’m telling it. Either I’ll forget the exact punchline, or halfway through I’ll realize it’s not funny and then I have to try to make something up and that just makes things worse.
The reason I thought of this is because I’m reading this John Grisham book and the main character is a 1st year associate in a law firm having dinner with a bunch of partners and it said he felt out of place and didn’t have much to add to the conversation. So this reminded me of my dinner in the example where I sat there with nothing to talk about feeling retarded because I couldn’t think of anything worthwhile to say. Now when I’m loaded this isn’t even a blip on my radar. I can pretty much shoot the shit about anything with anyone after some drinks, but if I’m on good behavior, awkwardness occurs from time to time. This brings me back to joke telling. If you have an arsenal of good jokes, it’s a good way to break the ice and people think you are funny which is usually a plus. You don’t want to be the jester but I think people prefer to befriend extroverts than introverts, because it’s less boring.
I don’t know what it is about the pressure being put on public speakers. I am amazed how people like Dane Cook and other stand ups can entertain 20,000 people for hours at a time. I get this sinking feeling in my stomach and my brain starts spazzing and then words turn to mush. I haven’t had to give a presentation in years and I think I’ve probably matured past the nervousness. I sort of think now that nothing in this world is that important that its worth getting crazy over. If you flunk a test and think it’s a big deal, the world is a lot bigger than your test.

compare (600 x 337)
compare 2 (600 x 337)
compare 3 (600 x 337)
compare 4 (600 x 420)
compare 5 (600 x 420)

I thought these size examples were pretty interesting to show how small and insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things

Now I know this isn’t my usual weird unusual rant about something that bothers me. But there is this feeling of complete let down and disappointment when you visit someones blog and they haven’t updated it in days. I think people will cut you some slack if you skip a day but if you start skipping day after day then people will replace you. I don’t have the amount of traffic that I would like but eventually I hope to get there. I’ll try to keep putting up reasonably interesting content even if my life is undeniably usual and boring. Stay tuned.

ps.
I have this “I” looming next to the first picture and I thought

would bring it down under the last picture but it isn’t working. Anyone who knows HTML please tell me what I’m doing wrong because I’m a noob.

Movie & TV Review

This first sentence will direct you to the bottom of this post of a link that is a must click.

I’m going to 180 from my Disney broads post, but I have to admit, personifying Disney characters is a funny post. I was the one who made the first comment on my post so I don’t think anyone took it too literally. I’m just trying to dig myself out of a hole to anyone who read that post and thinks I’m messed up in the head. Something to take out of it though is that strange shit does run through my brain and I really don’t have to many limits on what I’m willing to comment on.

Now to two movies that I watched recently, 7 pounds and funny people. I’ll start with the former as it was suggested by Evan Cohen who tends to maybe give movies a bit too much credit. I just read the Wikipedia page on this movie and it claims mostly poor reviews. However, I sat through the entire movie, giving it its chance, and I must say it was one of the most touching movies I’ve seen. I can see why people would call it terrible and boring, but I found the good nature of Will Smith’s character to be enjoyable to watch. There is really no action throughout the entire movie and I wouldn’t say it was very exciting either. At the end when Rosario Dawson and Woody Harrelson hug, knowing how fortunate they were to have Will Smith’s character in their lives, I was really moved. I sound and feel like a complete homo writing this but I don’t watch too many movies of this type and I really thought it was pretty good. I was entertained for two hours and wasn’t disappointed by the ending, which is more than I can say about this next movie.

Funny People was moderately funny and the ending was really awful. Adam Sandler played a weird role for him. He wasn’t one of his goofy characters but was actually real. His lines weren’t meant to be funny but were meant as a real person playing a real role. It was sort of bizarre actually. Seth Rogan lost some weight and they harp on it with a few jokes but he looks sort of skinny and unfunny. Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman were good for a few laughs and I thought the girl had a funny/good vibe to her character. I’m really sick of Leslie Mann. I guess guys think she’s attractive but I really don’t see it. I don’t think she’s very funny and she’s one of the main girls in all Apatow’s movies which is becoming too much. The movie is 2 and a half hours which is way too long considering nothing really ever happens. A couple funny parts, no good themes or lessons, moderately entertaining, poor ending. One star movie and a wasted 5 bucks. I like James Taylor.

Onto TV. I’m not really going to spoil either of these next two shows. Dexter is just awesome. Arthur has been really developed throughout the whole season. I like how he has a behind the scenes persona as well as the normal life. I sort of think the Rita-family life is getting stale and the LaGuerta-Angel thing bores me. Everything with Dexter and Arthur is spot on though. I can’t wait for the next episode.

The other show I watch is Californication. The upcoming episode is the season finale. I don’t really see this season coming to as big of a climax as there was in the first season. I actually am having problems remembering what finished in the 2nd season. I thought these last couple episodes have actually been dragging a bit. When he had all the girls in his apt with Rick Springfield, that was just pure genius. Runkle and Marcy in the bathroom was a quality scene but the Hank and Karen stuff is mediocre for lack of a better word. It’s ok, but wild man Hank Moody steals the show.

It’s 1:25am now and I have to get up at 6:45 to get to work. I’ve been getting up before 7, 4 out of the last 5 days and I’ve just been tired. I’ve been getting back from work and going to sleep only to wake up and not fall back asleep till now. I miss college days of staying up late and not having to get up till I wanted to. It’s so cliche but you don’t know you have it good until you don’t have it anymore. Our first basketball game is tomorrow which will be interesting. I haven’t shot a ball since the summer and many people can attest, I couldn’t shoot so well then. We’ll have to see

A final sentence. I’m the best Clue player in this house and will accept any challengers. I also think I’m the best at gin but not as strongly as I feel about Clue.

I also have to show this movie created by my roommate, Evan. He is a deranged individual. Enjoy. Fancy Pants Nance

Rank These Disney Broads

I have a feeling this post may not go over well due to my ridiculous reasoning. However, I will put this up anyhow. I actually didn’t come up with this clever idea but will provide my own opininons beneath each female. I have them ranked in order from top to bottom.

Sleeping Beauty

By far the hottest toon, plus the fact that she is always asleep and willing to have anything done to her. She reminds me of Uma Thurman from Kill Bill 2. I haven’t seen this movie in probably 20 plus years but I remember her getting pricked by the wheel. Was this the mirror mirror on the wall movie? She looks good with her long flowing blond hair and hot body.

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty

Jasmine

Jasmine is really hot. She fell for that dbag Aladdin because of that romantic “whole new world” theme. I always rooted for Jafar because he looked and talked like a badass.  The video game Aladdin was really good on Genesis and I could never beat it. Look at that tight stomach and dress about to come off.

Jasmine

Jasmine

Belle

Besides Belle’s terrible tastes in guys (beasts), she looks pretty good. She has the wholesome brown hair and eyes and looks stunning in her yellow gown. Plus you know she will like me for me because of her ability to love the beast and her disgust in Gaston. All in all I’m impressed with the total package.

Belle

Belle

Ariel

I usually don’t fall for the red heads but I remember thinking Ariel was a good looking mermaid. If my memory serves me correct she eventually got legs which is a huge plus. Plus I think she went through that phase where she lost her voice and that would have to be the number one advantage to having her around.

Ariel

Ariel

Tinkerbell

Small and tight, only for the itsy bitsy. Julia Roberts was her in Hook. This would actually make me put her way at the bottom because I find Julia Roberts to resemble a horse, but the cartoon version has her looking ok. I’m not sure how old she is, so if that comes into play I take it all back. She looks kindof exotic and probably a freak in the sac.

TinkerBell

TinkerBell

Cinderella

Cinderella and the stupid ball. She had mouse friends, I think, and they used to sing a Cinderelly song which I liked when I was 5. My memory on the storyline is really unclear but she went to a ball, a slipper came into play and they fit her but not her sisters. Seems generic and that goes along with her appearances. This dress makes me think she was probably stuck up but I think I remember a scene where they made her do a lot of chores so I think she was probably a pretty down to earth girl.

Cinderella

Cinderella

Pocahontas

Never saw the movie. Not into ethnic girls so much. How she gets ahead of the last two…read on. She actually seems kind of stoic but I think she would be one of those girls who don’t trim their region and then would act like a dead fish in bed. But then again maybe she’d have some sacred ceremonies before fornicating and then get all crazy and into it.

Pocahontas

Pocahontas

Snow White

I saw this cartoon of Snow White getting gang banged by the dwarfs and that image has just never left me. She’s not that attractive to begin with but that was just really gross. And if you wonder how I saw it, there was an attachment with cartoons and it caught me by surprise, I didn’t purposely seek it out.

Snow White

Snow White

Mulan

No comment.  Even the picture is plain Jane boring.

Mulan

Mulan

I don’t actually fantasize about Disney cartoons but if I was going to go ahead with a post like this I had to make it as entertaining as possible.

Coffee

So I’m driving into work and I need to buy a case of water. I go to rite aid and next door (store) over is Dunkin Doughnuts. I was in the mood for a cream cheese sesame seed bagel so I went in. I order the combo and it comes with a coffee. I’m not a coffee drinker but what the hell, today is Friday and let me switch it up. So I drive to work eat my bagel and one glazed doughnut and then get to the coffee. I flip open the sophisticated top and tilt the coffee up and what do you know, the motherfucker is 1200 degrees. It burns the shit out of my tongue and I’m sitting there wondering how in the world do people drink this so hot. Nevertheless, I finish off the coffee with no more taste buds left. Next thing I know the caffeine starts kicking and I have some pep to my step. I start buzzing around the office, answering phones calls, cleaning up anything out of place OCD style, and bouncing off the walls. Wow this is great, I can take on any task, even 3 or 4 all at the same time and nothing can slow me down. That is until the caffeine wears off. I’m sure everyday coffee drinkers just pour another cup and continue on, but being a once in a blue moon drinker, that was it. Now I’m sitting at my desk lethargic and wondering when the day is going to end. I’m not one to get addicted to things. I tend to stay away from anything addictive because it’s usually bad for you. I know it’s fun to do bad things but it most likely won’t end well. I understand how people can’t get through their day without their morning coffee. I do know though that it is not for me. Yes it seems fun and you feel really productive but it would just turn into another bad habit. Once again this will be another addictive substance that I am passing like Tom Brady on. And I just wrote that last sentence and laughed out loud to myself how cheesy it was.
I have a tame weekend coming up. I need to meet a roofing contractor on Saturday morning at 830 so that buzz kills my Friday and I have a German supplier flying in on Monday so I don’t want to go in feeling like shit, so I have decided to take it easy on Saturday too. Hopefully this will be one of my more productive weekends and I can do some holiday shopping and get to the gym or play some ball.

Ab Test Day 4

Both of my brothers were the only people who came up with the correct answer of 29,178. 9 girls with 9 packs EACH. Means 81 packs. 9 Big cats times 81 packs is 729 big cats. 9 small cat per big cat makes 6,561 small cats. (6561 x 4 legs) + (729 x 4 legs) + (9 x 2) = 29,178
There are no tricks to this word problem, just basic math. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t get the right answer, we all can’t be as smarts as the Stortz’s. (Can you have apostrophe s after z?)

I’m beginning to feel like a fool and tool for posting pictures of my stomach daily. I really haven’t noticed much change from Monday and I’m beginning to think my amazing results I was expecting aren’t too amazing. Nevertheless, Day 4 below.
P4200194
I was 10 seconds better yesterday in a 4 mile run finishing it in 23:10. I have no doubt I can hit under 23 on the treadmill. I probably won’t be going to the gym today because Thursday night football is on and a bet is most likely taking place. I’m going to take the home team with the points and root like a wildman for TO. Chad has him on his fantasy team and I need a everything to play out perfectly, like the eagles to the playoffs last year, to take place for me to make the playoffs and his W is a key component. I also have to save some money for the Florida-Alabama game. I think I’m pulling for Alabama because they usually pay the bills and I want to see Tebow lose.

10 Dollar Winner

I offer 10 dollars to the first person who comes up with the correct answer. This not a trick question and I assume someone will get it right. You can google this question but if you want to be a douche and ruin the integrity of the game, that’s up to you. One answer only (it tracks IP Addresses) and you can leave it in the comment section. To the question:

* There are 9 girls in a bus.
* Each girl has 9 backpacks.
* In each backpack, there are 9 big
cats.
* For every big cat there are 9 little
cats.
Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

Mid-Week

Day 3 Stomach

Day 3

Day 3

I’m starting to feel better again. Yesterday I turned in 4 miles at 23:20 which is 5:50 miles on a treadmill. It’s hard to put a true value on that because running on a treadmill has it’s time advantages considering it’s flat and all machines have different power for their speeds. I’m feeling much better though after 3 days of no alcohol. My brain actually functions properly and I feel, for no better way to put it, good. I’ll stay on track for the next couple days and then we’ll see where Friday leads.

After losing the pats bet on Monday I’m back to the sideline. -100 for the season and no real urge to make any wagers. The gambling gods will let me know if I should take any action in the next couple days. I haven’t been playing poker either as I’m taking a short break. I actually started reading the Associate by John Grisham. I wouldn’t say I’m a huge John Grisham fan, but I prefer his books over the cop-hunt-killer books. Other than that though, it’s go to work, go to the gym, go to sleep.

A quirky pet peeve of mine just to conclude on an unusual thought. My gas tank was pretty low and then the light came on. I don’t know about everyone else, but this just gives me this uneasy feeling. I know there are about 3 gallons of gas after the light so I can drive for about 50+ plus miles, but there is just something unsettling when this light comes on. Personally, I rarely let the light come on. When I see I’m getting even remotely close, I usually fill up. And I always fill it up. I don’t understand people who put in 5 dollars. You are just going to be back there in a day or two. Back to the light. The light is like a sense of urgency which is a feeling I try to avoid. Kramer would talk about the adrenaline rush from riding on E, but I prefer to be on the F. Being on F is like a feeling of well being and things are all right. No real point here other than if you like riding on E, our styles differ dramatically.

Won’t Waste Your Time

Here’s day two of what it looks like to burn off 50 beers in a couple days.

Day 2 stomach

Day 2 stomach

I would like to think that I wouldn’t be putting up pictures of my stomach if I didn’t think there would be any interest to it. Also something to note, yes this is the same pair of boxers I wore yesterday but I assure you I did my wash yesterday and it just so happened that this pair came out on top in the folding process. If I have them on again tomorrow, then you can call me out on being dirty.

This brings me to something I’ve been thinking about lately. I plan on putting a little bit more effort to this blog and actually hoping to use it as a constructive measure of myself. What I mean is hopefully this will keep me on track to being better. A better person, better with my money, better in all aspects of life. I’ve been thinking this because I’ve been doing the same thing with my life year after year and I’m not really ever clearing that life altering hurdle. What brought this about was the latest episode of Californication. Basically Hank and Runkle get held at gunpoint and afterwards Charlie says “It’s like my life flashed in front of my eyes, like it was being fast forwarded on Tivo, and I realized ‘it was pathetic.’ This isn’t stemming from my depression comment yesterday or that I think my life sucks, but it’s just the same routine year after year and I have to mix it up or at least try something different. I can’t stand the boredom of sobriety, but the gambling and the drinking lead to a road to nowhere. Here’s to forward progress.

Rare Monday and the experiment

2B7BYB88XQRW
I usually don’t post on Monday’s because I feel like shit and this is the last thing I feel like thinking about. However, I have decided to make a post to sum up my last couple days and express some thoughts through my head. A quick financial summary – I went 3 for 4 on my sports bets to tally a +150 weekend, which puts me at exactly even for the season. After 12 weeks of the season to be even with the book is actually amazing. I threw a c-note on the pats at +1.5 tonight so that will swing me in one direction.

Yesterday I was complaining about being sad and depressed. This is actually pretty easy to understand why. 4 days of no work had ended and it was back to work today. Plus, and this is gonna sound really gay, seeing my brothers back from school and all these other people who I used to see while growing up and realizing that that phase of my life is ending, sort of makes me think about the past and it’s just depressing in a sense. It’s all normal and there isn’t anything you can do about it but it just gets me thinking. Also the aftermath effect alcohol has on the body can make you feel down.

To summarize things from my poker playing; not so good. We held a live tourny on Saturday where we had 30+ people play. I finished 5th but I really felt I played great the entire time. I didn’t once get it in behind the entire tourney and it was just a bit unlucky to run my 88 into 99 on my final hand. I also played a 2000 person tournament and finished 265th. Problem was the buy in was 11 dollars and it paid out 16. So I wasted 5 hours for 4 dollars. I also busted from the Sunday Million early when I couldn’t win 2 races. I still think I’m playing well but luck has not been on my side. I think I’m going to play in a live tourny on Wed so I expect to do well.

If you read the title you would wonder what my experiment is. Basically after 4 days of heavy drinking, I look and feel like a loaf. I don’t think I’m an alcoholic but I certainly do abuse the shit out of it on weekends. After these 4 days of drinking I end up feeling shitty and wondering why I do this to myself. What I want to do with this blog is show you what the effect of abusing alcohol is on the body, mainly my stomach.

In the past 4 days I think I’ve probably consumed about 50+ beers. At 100 calories per beer, we have 5000 calories in 4 days not counting any food. That’s about 2 days of what my daily intake should be if I were eating healthy, which explains why I have no appetite on days after I drink heavily. Considering I didn’t work out at all, this is the main driver for why I feel like shit. This is the end result of my stomach after this unhealthy binge. P4170181

My theory is that all the liquid goes to the love handles. What I plan to do with this blog is take a picture for 5 consecutive days of how my body transforms when I treat it with respect. I will go to the gym for 5 straight days, do some light lifting, and then run 3-5 miles at a 6 minute pace. I’m not doing this to impress people but for my own knowledge and to understand how negatively beer works on my body. If you want to give me derogatory comments about how stupid this is or how you could care less, that is completely ok with me. I would actually like to do this for a couple of weeks but I have a feeling that isn’t possible. I have a plan that instead of getting wasted Friday I’ll leave work and drive straight to AC and try to play a long long poker session. I’ll will keep this posted on a daily basis. That is all.
