#FuckFacebook

facebooksucks (425 x 482)

I logged on Facebook today and without touching a single button, I was granted with the screenshot above. You’ll notice 6 ads to the right (all of which are based off my history and that I’m mostly already a part of) and a huge sponsored AD by US Weekly about some Will Ferrell event. Over time I’ve tried to give Facebook the benefit of the doubt but they’ve crossed the line. I think the turning point was when they went public and they’ve had incredible pressure to meet monetary expectations. They’ve succumbed to bombarding their users with ads at the expense of a pleasurable experience. Ads are acceptable if you actually LIKE (see what I did there) what you are about to do and herein lies the problem with Facebook, its grown stale.

I haven’t had a new friend request in the last 5 years. An exaggeration perhaps but the thrill of Facebook was initially framing your social circle. Now all I get are married, pregnant, or stay at home low life’s updating FB with the latest snorefest. It’s still a fine place to set up events because everyone has an account but in terms of anything new or significant, Facebook is old and irrelevant. What I believe happened here is that their demographic switched over time. They went from the new, hip thing to be a part of 10 years ago to catering to parents and infants and anyone else who could click a mouse. I don’t think Facebook is going anywhere but its definitely lost its glimmer. So what is trending?

As much as I’d like to think I’m on the ball, I know I was well behind on Twitter and I recently signed up for Instagram which would make me a dinosaur by tech standards. I know Instagram was bought by Facebook but the simplicity and focus of Instagram separates it. A quick way to upload pictures and video is the heart of Facebook. Meaning that without that you have pointless text updates. That’s why Instagram has stolen Facebook away from Facebook. I think also the fact that anything I post automatically uploads to my blog makes me want to use it more often as well.

The same idea applies with Twitter. Keeping updates to 140 characters limits what you can write but it also makes you be concise and hopefully more entertaining. I still haven’t figured out how to gain followers but I’m hoping in time and with this blog, it will come. I know there are tons of people who use Vine and the amount of likes is overwhelming for certain videos. Where Twitter shines though is that if you want people to view your Vine, you’d tweet the link because it’s a better, bigger platform. The idea of Facebook and having “friends” is what limits Facebook from the snowball effect of Twitter. Knowing that you are tweeting things and there is a potential for mass hysteria is what I think is appealing. This is why I really hope that Twitter doesn’t go through with the IPO even though I know they will. More business leads to more ads and more bullshit to sift through.

You won’t see rnningfool have ads until I start landing 20,000 unique visitors a month. You can see from my handy counter down below on the right that I get somewhere between 250 and 300 a day which gets me to almost 10k a month. If I can double that, I may have to start trying to pull some money out of this site and sell out. The bounce rate on this new theme is also remarkable as its been below 10% the last 3 days. I have a feeling that’s not accurate but something I’m monitoring. I’m still hoping that someday someone who reads this site will also be a twitter follower but that seems like a crazy stigma from this audience.

McKayla Maroney Should Represent All That’s Right In America

McKaylaHot

My jaw dropped when I saw this picture of McKayla Maroney. I tried to embed the tweet but it wouldn’t let me so I took a screen shot it and posted it which I’m sure is completely illegal. I know this girl is only 17 (4 months to go) but what a fine fox. You’re telling me that not only is she this damn attractive but she’s also THE 2ND BEST VAULTER IN THE WORLD! Looks and talent oozing out of her. She was a god send to this obese and pathetic society of Americans. She should represent our country in every single international matter. We are bombing Syria? Let McKayla inform them. I’d listen to anything she said intently. She is owning Twitter, Instagram, and Keek (like I watch her videos…) right now. I’m well aware this is probably creep status but at this point I don’t even care. This post has my best chance of getting views because this girl is on another level. Barstool refers to her as “bitchface” and I’ve considered boycotting the site because it’s so offensive to something so awesome. If she ran for office, I’d vote for her even if her policies were to exterminate all human beings. Mr & Mrs. Maroney, please have more children.

#Twitter

The great thing about life is that things are constantly changing. Some people can even predict it in 1996 (the days of dial up).

What we are seeing is a decline of Facebook, and an emergence of Twitter. Facebook was in its infancy when I was in college. I remember the excitement of meeting a chick at a party and then making them your Facebook friend. This allowed for the possibility of banging them which would never (still didn’t matter) happen otherwise. As your friend list grew your self popularity exploded. It was a glorious thing. Now almost 10 years later, my parents and their friends are all on Facebook mingling and I can’t find a single person on there who I see on a routine basis. Out of the 350 people on Facebook, I probably interact with 30 or so and the rest are pointless updates from people I don’t care about. I would say the biggest travesty and fraudulent act (I’m stealing Shee) is people wishing other people Happy Birthday. Ask yourself a question, if Facebook didn’t remind you of their birthday would you know it? So stop faking it. If you don’t agree with me that Facebook is dead, than you probably own a flip phone.

I personally don’t like Twitter as much as others. I find it difficult to come up with entertaining tweets and I also can’t seem to develop an audience. It’s one thing to spend time of thinking of a tweet when you know 100,000 people are going to read it compared to 30. Twitter is more dynamic than Facebook because you can follow anyone you want. You get updates from people who interest you (also cooler and smarter)and not your boring friends. I obviously have a few gripes though. Some people are constantly tweeting and re-tweeting and it’s a complete turn off. I pretty much will unfollow them immediately if they block up the feed. The other problem is that most famous people are just promoting their crap and not tweeting anything meaningful. I do like how I can roll through Twitter in a few minutes though and only take in what I want to take it. The Twitter hash tag can also lead to funny meanings (mostly misused though) and it’s very bizarre Facebook is trying to implement it in their own system. Personally I haven’t found anything funnier than Fukung’s tag system.

Would I want to own Facebook stock? Absolutely not. Maybe there is tremendous growth in under-developed countries and mobile shit but who really gives a fuck. Everything has cycles and that is especially true with technology. Things get old. Prodigy got old. Netscape got old. Aol got old. MySpace got old. Technology will come and go but the important part is to always adapt with the trends and recognize when they are happening. You can make a lot of money this way. I will give one important rule to follow that you should never, ever forget. Never listen to me. #Idontknowshit

What’s in? Amazon, Google, and I hope Samsung takes a giant diarrhea dump on Apple.

Tweet Tweet Tweet

@rnningfool is now a part of twitter. I actually opened an account years ago but never used it. This is purely experimental and I have been anti-tweet for a long time. I personally don’t know what to expect from twitter but I’m pretty honest that I try anything popular. I’ve read Harry Potter, watched Twilight, listen to Gaga, and now I’m going to start tweeting. I’m a band wagon junkie. I think having an open mind is important to success. What kind of success? Well I can’t really answer that but I’m sure that establishing a twitter following certainly couldn’t hurt my blog traffic. Call me a sell out but I’ll see if I can amuse an audience on twitter. Who knows, maybe I’ll even enjoy it. I also don’t understand the @ part at all.
