Dave Drove a Ford

In one of the better commercials of last night, an apocalyptic environment is shown with a bunch of men gathering to talk about their survival. These men all drove Chevy’s which was why they survived compared to, Dave, who drove a Ford. This is done in really poor taste by GM for many reasons. First it’s taking a shot at another American company and second for this reason:

“The bailout and restructuring helped GM to shed nearly $40 billion in obligations to become debt-free. It was a contrast with Ford Motor Co, which didn’t have a bailout and is still paying off $23 billion it borrowed to survive. GM will pay almost no federal corporate taxes for years as one condition of the bailout.”

If that doesn’t make you dislike GM a bit, I don’t know what will. I think the majority of the Superbowl commercials were pretty weak. I didn’t see a Google ad which I’ve thought were usually the best in the past. There were plenty of car commercials, particularly Hyundai and Kia, which are obviously making boat loads of cash to afford these. At 3.5 million dollars per 30 second clip, these can get pricey. Plus that doesn’t even include the cost of production. To these huge companies I’m sure this is money well spent because you are basically spending advertising dollars to reach 100 million people. I almost think it’s a bargain at 3.5 million. I also can’t comment on the halftime performance because I was playing ping pong but I heard it wasn’t that good.
