Distance Run

I was going to write a pre race post and a post race but forgot to so this is just the post race. I finished right around 1:20 clock time and I’ll probably be about 10 seconds under that. It was about 40 seconds slower than last year so I’m a bit disappointed. I went out way to fast and pretty much died towards the end. My 10 mile time was under 60 so I was on a nice pace but just didn’t have the legs. My feet started to bother me at around the 10 mark so I had to run the last 3 miles flat footed which wasn’t ideal but not too bad. All in all it was fine but I wish I could have at least beat last years time. I weighed myself at 175 which I think is a fine regular weight but I should probably be about 170 if I’m going be at my best running weight. I’m probably going to take some time off for a while as my running season is now over.

We played softball on Saturday and it was the first time playing any organized baseball in 10 years. We ended up losing and I definitely played like a tard. I stranded 2 men on with a pathetic dribbler to the pitcher with 2 outs and almost hit into a triple play when the bases were loaded and no outs. Plus, I let a ball go through my legs on a play I should have made and dropped a ball at first. Other than that though… It’s moderately fun and no one takes it too seriously (I think) so it is what it is.

I sacrificed this weekend for the race, meaning I didn’t have a sip of alcohol all weekend which is a rarity. I pretty much just stayed in and played poker and bet on games. I hit a nice parlay with texas tech and the under and now I’m rolling it all on the NFL today. I have a slew of parlays and bets that I don’t feel like posting. Basically, I’m down 40 bucks on the season with 110 dollars in play today.

10 miler

So I did the Sea Isle 10 miler this past weekend. I didn’t drink much on Friday which is 1 of 3 days of the year I won’t get obliterated on the weekend. I drove left at 8:45am. Got to the Borgata at 10. Played poker for 3 hours and won 50 bucks. I had some time to kill so I played Pai Gow and lost 110. So I ended up down 60 after leaving the casino. Then I went to Sea Isle for the run. I start in this huge cluster fuck of people probably half way back out of 1400 people. So I get off at this slow ass pace where I ran the first mile at 7 minutes, but in reality it was probably sub 6 because of how slow I had to start. Anyhow, you run for a half mile or so and then the sand starts. Running on the sand isn’t awful but it’s much tougher than black top. I split 3 miles at 18:00 which shows how fast I was trying to make up the lost time from the beginning. I felt fine through 5 where I was a tad over 30 minutes. Then I ran 2 more fine miles at around 6 something pace. Then there was 3 straight miles of sand running where I was just gassed. No one was passing me until about a half mile left in the race so my pace wasn’t too slow but I just didn’t have the finish I was hoping for. Some broad passed me with a half mile left and that was obviously demoralizing that I couldn’t beat her. I finished in 65th with a time of 62:25. The competition was pretty good this year. Last race of the year will be the Philadelphia half marathon. http://www.lmsports.com/sic09.htm

Broad Street Run

I finished in 60:15 which was 15 seconds off my goal and finished in 170th out of 23,000 people.  I’m pretty pleased with the result.  If I had a couple of more weeks to train I think I could have dropped a minute or two off my time.  I felt pretty good the entire race.  My legs started to fatigue at mile 7 and I dropped to probably 6:15 mile pace for mile 7,8,9 but the last mile I finished at 6  pace.  Next race I”ll do will be the Sea Isle 10 miler in August I think.  Then the Distance run in September and I’ll contemplate the Marathon in November but most likely I won’t be motivated enough to train for it.  If I’m not going to take the race seriously and train I don’t see any point to doing it.

I actually enjoyed my sober weekend.  I woke up each day feeling good and got things done.  I have one more book to read before I exhausted everything I bought from Amazon.  I started Schindler’s List and Get Shorty so I’ll finish them this week.  I’m also going to start a poker tab up top to give an overview of the games I play and money I try to make.  Other than that everything is business as usual.  People have been told me that my posts haven’t been as good lately and for that I’m sorry but my life isn’t non stop entertainment, my bad.
