O-fer

We lost our bball game and that was pretty much the last chance we had at winning a game. It came down to overtime which was iffy to begin with. Bake had a heave from a little inside mid court that hit the rim and gingerly fell into my hands and I threw it up with no one around. Problem was there were 3 seconds on the clock to begin the play so what happened was the time keeper was probably snoozing. It didn’t matter as we got rolled in overtime. We can just look at this as a rebuilding year. Problem is we are all getting older and slower and the skills are decaying. Oh well. (more…)

The blogosphere

I spent some time trying to network this blog a little bit by signing up to some blogging sites and registering with google and yahoo. So I just googled rnningfool and broke into tears when I saw my link come up first with that description. So I obviously put that in there but I didn’t really expect it to be displayed like that. Nevertheless, I’ll monitor traffic coming into the blog. I was also trying to set up an rss feed within wordpress so people could click on the google link and have my blog updates added to their google homepage. I’m sure I will eventually figure it out but the idea of people caring enough about my homepage to set this up sort of freaks me out because I don’t really crave attention. It’s not really that I want people to come to my site but it’s more a challenge to me to see how many people I can actually get. Sure there is the possibility that you’ll have thousands and thousands of people visit and then you can sell ad space, but this is merely a pipe dream.

I actually posted in a forum asking for some advice on maybe how to make the site look nicer or things I could improve on and got some interesting thoughts. Someone commented on a theme. So people actually will take something like LPGA golfers and devote a site entirely to them. If you’ve ever heard of “the best site in the universe” (google it if you don’t) this guy doesn’t have a theme. He just writes whatever he thinks and it’s hysterical. That’s my plan. No ads, just 100% my mind at work. I was also informed that I’m violating copyright laws with the pictures I put up. So be it, if I’m asked to remove them I will. I may however be trying to take this to the next level with more research and more time spent on it. I basically am looking for something to do so maybe this will fit nicely into my schedule.

I watched Yes Man tonight with Jim Carrey. I wouldn’t recommend it. He’s a bit older now and still does the same Ace Ventura bits. The movie was average but I actually like the idea of saying yes to everything. It would make for a more interesting experiencing. If you forced yourself to say yes when someone told you to dance with some chick or talk to the hottie by the bar, instead of thinking you’ll look stupid or acting like a pussy, you just do it. Maybe it’s worth a try. Other than that though, we have our last chance at catching a W in our bball league. We are 0-4 and the 2 games at the end are automatic L’s. The league is just filled with basketball players and we are just people playing basketball. Big difference in men’s leagues.

I’m waking up at 6:45 (it’s 2am now) to go see a property that we can potentially move the business to. My dad is looking at putting the building on the market within the next week or two so that will be a big deal for a while. If the building gets sold quickly for what my dad is looking for (it won’t is my guess), it will be a significant life changing event. I’ll have to wait and see. I actually enjoy these sober days because I’ve worked out (4 miles in 23:20) and am feeling good compared to weekend hangovers. I’m healthy and have little to complain about. Just waiting for something to happen.

Unacceptable

I saw a person’s facebook status and this is what it said:

“cant wait to get back to the U and go the the grove on sat with the gordddd and then pool on sundayyyyy”

This is a Freshman male in college and this is not ok. Now the extra letters on the end of words is where I have the problem. I take this as a bitch slap to the face of the English language and male pride. How are you supposed to pronounce this sentence with all these extra letters? You’d sound like a fucking homo with a speech impediment. However, you want me to read the sentence so that I can see all the extra letters on the end of these words to signify how much fun you are going to have. Going to coconut grove with a bro and then the pool on a super fun sunday is just not good enough to qualify for 4 extra “y’s”. If girls want to put extra letters on the end to exclaim how happy they are to do some activity, so be it, but guys should not be allowed to practice this methodology. I find this very disturbing.

I took a break after reading this to rock a deuce and while s(h)itting I thought to myself, who am I to comment on this poor saps facebook status? What authority do I have to feel that whatever I think is right? Then it came to me. It’s like a 6th sense that dwells inside the male brain. It’s why men like beer, football, cigars, and strippers. It also tells me when something isn’t right. Putting extra letters on words is a homo thing to do. Washing yourself with a loufa in the shower is not alright. Taking baths falls under things females can do but not ok for men. I read that female book by Chelsea something or other and while reading it I could feel myself becoming less of a man. Reality TV weakens the man gene (I’d still watch it however because it’s a mind numbing – self satisfying experience to watch people behave like retards). Sleeping in Pajamas is not ok. I find robes disturbing but I think this is something real men do. If you’ve never been in a fight, I don’t know how you could ever know how tough of a man you really are.

Woman don’t understand the morals that are involved in manliness. Woman don’t like words like beaver, snatch, twat, cooter, verticle smile, and cock holster but when you talk to other men, these are hilarious words for the vag. If things like rodents, insects, and other wimpy forms of life scare you, then most likely you’ve lost your manhood somewhere behind you. Men like racing and going fast, the speed limit is for pusses. Hunting, shooting guns, and killing things are manly things to like. (personally I’ve never even touched a gun because it scares the hell out of me that I would accidentally set it off, but I’m self aware that this is a guys things)

Point being, there’s something inside men that separates them from females. If all men and woman were built the same way, things just wouldn’t work out. That’s why as a man you have to glorify the things that females don’t like to do. Girls don’t like shitting, or eating JRP, or pornography, or breaking furniture, or getting in fights. I would actually find it hot if girls were into this but most likely they would be cuckoo. So when I see someone doing something like a complete fruit cake (facebook status above), I feel the need to point it out.

To cap this off, below would be my ideal chick (blonde obv). Notice the pretty hair color, the nice rack, and the monstrous beer that is going to be consumed. The final comment of this post, as I write all this about what it takes to be manly, girls have the most powerful attribute of all, the power of the puss which can melt even the manliest of men. Maybe not Chuck Norris but all mortals.

Are you on Drugs?

I wanted to start this post with two unusual things I come across and then go into a breakdown of my self.

First, they have a juice bar at LA Fitness names NRGize. I completely get where it’s coming from but the marketing genius’s behind this name may have had a screw loose. Now I don’t know if this is owned by a member of african american descent to make this name acceptable but from my perspective, I think they could have gone with something else. From what I understand, black people can talk to each other in this formality if they throw an a at the end of the word, instead of an er. I’m pretty sure white people should just delete it from their vocab. However, to display this juice bar’s name without noticing what this word looks like, seems a bit preposterous to me. Throw an E on the front and you can still be hip with your play on letters. I seriously hope this isn’t a chain and I am amazed how no one has mentioned anything.

I was watching Basic Instinct (great nude sharon stone scenes by the way, it’s on demand, encore I think but maybe hbo) and Michael Douglas says a couple of things he doesn’t do and one was he doesn’t look at his shit. Now if I had to go out on a limb here, I’d say most people are taking a look at what just plopped below. There are good reasons for this other than taking pride in what was just created. If you never look, how are you supposed to know you are healthy. If nasty shit is leaving my system, I want to be the first to know. This also leads me to wiping. When you are just about finished and take one wipe and you still see some remnants but you’re pretty sure you’ll just be wasting the tp with one more, do you chance it? Hearsay has it that my brother can go with as much as 15 wipes per sitting. This is a remarkable number but I think you can be damn sure he’s doing a good job. I’m a believer of wiping till there’s nothing left. I have a feeling though there are a lot of risk takers out there that will leave that last wipe up to chance and make some assumptions that may not have the best results. Just a thought.

Enough toilet and racial talk, let’s get down to business. After missing work on Friday due to being too inebriated and then I had a few faux pas’s Monday morning due to, basically an off day, JC asked me if I was doing drugs. Now I understand what he’s seeing. I blow off work a day for some reason and now I’m in the next day making some errors on minor details and he puts two and two together and comes up with this hypothesis. I am certainly not on drugs, however, if you read my blog you’ll know that I pretty much abuse alcohol. So obviously today’s day at work was a bit off and now I’m pretty much considering laying off the sauce (alcohol for the layman) a while so i can clean up my act and pretty much reset the tables. I actually feel that alcohol is affecting my life and decisions in a negative manner and it probably is best if I tried out the sober life. Gambling drunk is a losing proposition and the money I blow at the bar is beyond me, plus the lasting effects on the body. I’m not the type of person who can have a couple beers. When I drink, I try to get drunk. Alcohol hasn’t effected my life in such a detrimental way that I HAVE to come to this decision. I have practically no sour relations, no debt, no real issues that have come from alcohol (besides today’s incident which isn’t exactly anything), but I feel like I can be a better human being without it. I’m certainly not saying that I’ll never have another sip again because that would be ludicrous, but I just have to do a better job with it. I just want to point out this difficult conundrum. Having fun to me is drinking. If I don’t drink, it’s hard to have fun. I like to have fun. Let’s see what the future holds. I’ll throw the over under out there to the 22nd.

You Live in a House?

I can be really stupid. When I arrive in social situations sometimes my brain starts working overtime to try to think of things to keep the conversation going. When I overwork my brain, I say stupid shit. I’m not sure why but I think I have social anxiety and I can’t stand lulls in the conversation or awkward silence. I would have problems sitting in a room with someone that I only half knew and watching a movie. I always think they are really bored or would rather be doing something else. I just completely overthink situations.

On to my stupidity. Wagon and I went to Sam’s club to get our usual drinks and food. Everything went to plan and then we run into a girl from my high school. We have been family friends and I know her well enough that I can’t just say hi and keep walking. Of course I could do that but then it would be a “well that was really rude.” So she’s there with her husband and we start off with how’s it going, Sam’s club is really crowded, yada yada. So something in my brain told me that they just moved into a new house. So I said “are you guys living in a house together?” The guy looks at me like I’m from another planet and says “yeah for a couple of years now.” So after realizing that was a retarded question I quick countered with “yeah I hardly ever see you guys…. well nice talking to you.” I walked away and just thought that was one of the stupidest things I’ve ever said. Where else would they be living? It would be one thing if they did just actually move into a new house but since they’ve been there for years, I just felt it was moronic.

Other than that though nothing is of too much interest. Friday night JKash and I got retarded and went searching for sluts. I hate to put it that way but I’m not sure how many future wives come out of random weekend hookups. We got back both pretty lit and decided to throw chairs around the living room. Nobody else really found it that amusing surprisingly. Saturday I lost 50 bucks betting on the games. I don’t feel any emotion at all because of the Eagles loss. Also, I deposited in stars to take advantage of the 150 reload bonus. I have 600 vpps and need 2400 more after one weekend of playing that netted me -200. I’ll be at this for the next week so hopefully I get things back in the black.

Ke$ha is also taking over. Tik Tok triggers some crazy part of the female mind. This song starts playing and girls just lose it. Reminds me of Party in the USA. The songs are catchy songs and I understand why they get so popular but after hearing it for the 100th time I must say it starts to get old. And it’s one of those songs that they play on 5 different XM stations so it’s pretty much always on. I think some people think they are too cool to listen to mainstream music but I like to hear it just so I can stay in touch with the masses.

Here are some songs that I would recommend.

Just Because

Just because I’m not trying to take too many days off posting I’ll put something on the site.

So because I have some ideas in the works and this isn’t one of them, expect it to be pretty lame. I didn’t go to work today because I got too drunk last night. Go Go Gadget was performing at Mad River and they had 2 dollar you call it and 2 dollar bud Lights. I went out to dinner with my Mom, then to LA to run 3 miles in 17:13 AFTER eating a full dinner and then Wagon and I went to Mad River around 9:15. First off I love Mad River because they understand that guys want to get served their drink by hot girls. I really don’t know if opposite holds but if I opened a bar all I would hire would be hot girls. So I start off drinking single rum and cokes. I have about 4 before I convince the bartender to start serving me doubles. It got to be 10:45 and to take full advantage of the special I bought a double and 2 coors lights (which I also convinced the girl to sell me at 2 bucks). I told the wagon to hold the two which gave him about 3 to hold and I chugged my double like it was a mind eraser and then went back and got 2 more coors and another double. At this point the place was fairly crowded but not packed. I was obviously pretty smashed at this point but I wanted to tell this one girl that I wanted to take her out in real life. Honestly, that was going to be my line. I never did ask her but if she reads this (she doesn’t) the offer would still stand. So we took a cab back and next thing I remember was the wagon telling me it was 8 and if I was going to work. I went back to bed and woke up at 1:30. It’s 2pm right now and here I am. I ate some eggs and actually don’t feel that terrible. I’m going to go the gym and play some poker and then call it a day. Obviously getting fucked up tonight. There’s a day in my life.

People and their words

When I’m around someone for a lengthened period of time, I tend to pick up on things that the person likes to say. Whether it be a phrase or a saying, people tend to get mind stuck in using the same word all the time. I had a period of time where everything was horrible. Something horrible happened, the food was horrible, my last shit reeked horribly. Things weren’t awful or terrible or horrendous, everything was horrible. Once I caught myself getting my brain stuck on this word I had to go to a thesaurus and start making myself use different words. Another example was when I was in college and this girl ended half her sentences with “do you know what I mean.” When she finished a sentence it was like her brain pulled a trigger and she chose this phrase because she probably had low self esteem and thought no one would know what the fuck she was talking about. She’d say something like “My English teacher is such a dick, he is giving me a c+ instead of b-, do you what I mean.” I’d say “honestly I have no clue because the only thing I listen for when you talk is for you to say ‘do you know what I mean’ so I can laugh at how retarded you are.”

I bring this up because my roommate keeps using the word “the thing.” Hand me the thing, the thing said, turn the thing off. At first I thought it was funny because everything could just be the thing. And he’d keep saying it and I’d keep picking up on it. After a few days of hearing this, I started calling everything the thing. If you pay attention to the way people talk you can see if they keep using the same words or if they are wile enough to switch it up. I wish I had more interaction with people in my work life because I feel like I could write about this topic forever if I had more examples.

To bring this full circle, I tend to think people who keep using the same phrases have pretty much put their brains on cruise control. When I heard my roommate call everything the thing, a cop out for calling something it’s real name, and I read this article in the bathroom book, things started falling into place.

Study: In 2004 scientists at the Kings’ college, London University were commissioned by HP to see what toll compulsive e-mail checking and Internet chatting have on a worker’s “functioning IQ.” Eighty volunteers participated in clinical trials and another 1,100 people were interviewed for the study.

Findings: 62 percent of the interviewees were “addicted” to checking e-mail and exchanging text messages, which they did not only at their desks, but also “during meetings, in the evenings, and on the weekends.” The scientists dubbed this phenomenon “info-mania.”

Info-mania takes a noticeable toll on productivity. “An avg worker’s functioning IQ falls 10 points when distracted by ringing telephones and incoming e-mails…more than double the 4 point drop seen in studies on the impact of smoking marijuana,” the scientists concluded. A 10 point drop is the equivalent of trying to put in a full day of work after missing an entire night of sleep.

Now if you know my roommate, things started to make sense why everything was the thing. And while I’m on it, buy a new laptop. You make a fine enough salary to afford a new laptop which you spend half you waking hours on. Your POS computer now is an insult to technology. To give you an idea of how sad this computer is. It was bought in 05′ for 500 bucks. The computer sounds like it wants to take off every time I’m around it. He told me last night that Norton 06′ was protecting him.

And to clear one final thing up. Even if his IQ dropped 10 points, it would still be far and above mine. Chad, don’t take it personal that I used you as my blog subject. Your the most honest person I know (tied with Bud Schmidt) and I only make fun of you because I know, you know, I don’t do it with any malicious intent.

A fun tidbit of info. We scored 91 points in our bball game, and lost by 40. Talk about an embarrassment and a low blow to the self esteem. I could go into details but rehashing this almost brings me to tears from the whooping.

The Sad, The Mad, and The Glad

So you’ve come to my web page and alas you see some new material. My time being a waste of life has finally ended and now it’s time to get back to the real world. During the last 10+ days of doing nothing I really have no new material, nothing noteworthy anyhow. I personally don’t think anyone cares about how much money I lost gambling or how many beer pong games were played or how many quarters made in a row. It’s all the same shit that I’ve been writing about since this blog’s conception. Yes, I almost finished a fifth of goose in about a 5 hour span that ended me at the asian massage parlor. Yes, there was a night of 151 that had me acting like a buffoon and staying up to 5:30 am after a 3 hour poker session of playing like a maniac and then calling escorts and being too chicken to follow through. I spent one night next to the toilet literally paralyzed and unable to make myself throw up or move. I didn’t yack once the entire break and my body paid the price. One last comment on these unblogworthy (yes I do believe this) events. One of my friends once said to me that New Years Eve is the night the amateurs come out to drink, and if that pertains to you and you puked because you drank too much, I just want say nice work because it’s nice to get this drunk to join the serious alcoholics for a change.

On to the title of this post. The sad, the mad, and the glad are the stages that an alcoholic faces when benders like these come to an end. I personally don’t think I’m a full blown alcoholic but when I have 10 days and no work to worry about, I certainly become one for this period of time. I probably had more than 6 beers on 9 of the days and more than 12 on 5 of them. People who don’t drink like this don’t really understand alcohol’s lingering effect on the body. The once in a while drinker may take a night and get out of control but that’s all their body can really take. They have a hangover and feel like shit the next day which usually will curtail the next nights drinking effort. For people like me, the body has been trained through years of hard work of continuous drinking. So towards the end of this break, (after the 151 night) I was stopped. My body said no more.

I tell people that I feel sad and feel like crying and I don’t think they really understand what that I’m being serious. This means the alcohol has left me in a depressed state where I’ve come to realization that the break is over, work starts soon, and my body has said enough’s enough. I literally piss out a color of goldenrod (the toxins) because I’m so dehydrated that it wasn’t till today that I start to get back to normal (3 days). So when I tell people that I’m sad, I’m not kidding because this is how alcohol makes you feel.

The mad comes out today. Today was the first day of work. I woke up at 7 and left work after 5. The phone rang 20 times and there were people at the door and year had to be closed and shit needed to get caught up on. After feeling like shit at the end of the break, you are thrown into the work world after a hiatus of doing nothing. Generally these days don’t end on good notes and puts me in a pissy mood. Fortunately I was able to go to the gym and watch sling blade which made it a little better. This mad stage will end today as I have cleansed the depressing toxins out and gotten through the bullshit surrounding day 1.

Tomorrow I will enter the glad. I feel good again. I’m sober and cleaned up and for the next 5 days I’ll hit the gym and get myself back into the shape I should be if it wasn’t for consuming all that beer. The sad, the mad, and the glad, don’t usually hit on regular work weeks. There isn’t enough time for drinking on the weekends to fuck me up that badly. It’s on these breaks where it’s possible to drink many nights in a row. Most people who read this will have no idea what I’m talking about because they don’t abuse their bodies with alcohol like I do. But I just gave you my first hand account of what goes through my mind when I treat my body like shit. I personally don’t recommend it because it isn’t fun. It’s fun in the process, but you pay for the aftermath. I actually consider giving up alcohol or going to therapy after breaks like this to show you how whack it makes me.

Before I end this, and to go a bit off topic, I just wanted to give my thoughts on the new year. First and foremost I am so fucking sick of hearing people wish other people a happy new year. The new year was on the first and it’s already the 4th and I still hear people wishing other people a happy new year. Do you think people really mean it or is it just something to say? “Hey John Doe, Happy New Year!” (because this is your best chance to be happy before the fucked up shit starts happening during the rest of the year.) I brought in my new year off a bender and feeling like shit, I don’t know what was too happy about it. Is the New Year a reset button? Now all the lazy people can make resolutions about going to the gym and not eating as unhealthy because they are given a brand new start because it’s the new year. Newsflash, you had all of last year to do these things and don’t forget the year before that, and that. Besides finding ways to make more money and lowering my golf handicap, I’m content. I’ll be in a good mood for the next couple of days so if you want anything from me, now’s the time.

Weekend Complete

To start off, please drive with your lights on at all time, especially in the snow.

Friday and Saturday night were standard. Went to some sweater party and then the bar which was problematic because I had a blister on my foot from the treadmill and it made it annoying to get around. Saturday I started drinking around noon and all day throughout without a nap or anything. The night ended at the US hotel which I must say is becoming a staple of my weekend end night. Sunday was easily the most bizarre day. J Kash was evaluating his car situation and ran into some girls who live close by. They told him to stop by for the Eagles game in a “yeah we are saying this but don’t really expect you to show.” Little did they know we rang the bell at 4 ready to watch the game. There were 3 of them and a random bro and I was prepared for the initial awkwardness. I texted him 5 minutes in saying I think we should go, which would have been even weirder. So we grabbed a couple of their beers and cozied in for some football with our new friends. After the introductions where I said my name and then insta forgot any name they said, things got pretty normal. We ended up playing a game at halftime and I think they legitimately liked us. It went surprisingly well for showing up at someones house who you never have met before. I ended up borrowing one of their books which is called My horizontal life. It’s a chick book equivalent to the Tucker Max book. I’ve never heard of Chelsea Handler but I’m sure she’s popular among girls. The book came out in 2005 so I’m way late but I read it none the less. It was a 3 hour read or so and I just can say that reading these things from a girls perspective is a whole lot different then a guys. When Tucker Max unleashes an 8 roper into a girls eye, I’m ok with that. When Chelsea Handler writes “My gas was really acting up, so I decided to cut my losses, go to the bathroom, and take a dump. Boy did I ever. I made a mental note to myself never to eat Mexican on weekends…” this does not make me want to read on. However, the book is somewhat entertaining and it’s interesting to read these types of stories from a girls perspective. My book review aside, it was a genius move to take the book because now I have to return it. I give it a 50-50 shot that we ever see these girls again but sometimes doing out of the blue things turns out to be the most fun.

To move onto betting. I put 75 bucks on the pats which pushed. I had a 3 team under parlay on the jets, eagles, and ravens which hit for 150 and I had 75 on the birds. I lost 125 on the vikings and tonight I played the suns and giants which split. Up 100 for the weekend, which puts me down 100 bucks 15 weeks into the season. I think that’s pretty good and I’ve done some good br mgmt despite 15 weekends of drunkenness.

I also haven’t made plans for new years. We usually throw a party but for some reason I hate the expectations that come along with throwing a party, that I’d rather just not have one. However, since it’s already the 22nd and I have nothing really scheduled, it looks like we will just get a keg and have some people over. If you have no plans and read this, you can let me know and you are pretty much invited.

Coffee

So I’m driving into work and I need to buy a case of water. I go to rite aid and next door (store) over is Dunkin Doughnuts. I was in the mood for a cream cheese sesame seed bagel so I went in. I order the combo and it comes with a coffee. I’m not a coffee drinker but what the hell, today is Friday and let me switch it up. So I drive to work eat my bagel and one glazed doughnut and then get to the coffee. I flip open the sophisticated top and tilt the coffee up and what do you know, the motherfucker is 1200 degrees. It burns the shit out of my tongue and I’m sitting there wondering how in the world do people drink this so hot. Nevertheless, I finish off the coffee with no more taste buds left. Next thing I know the caffeine starts kicking and I have some pep to my step. I start buzzing around the office, answering phones calls, cleaning up anything out of place OCD style, and bouncing off the walls. Wow this is great, I can take on any task, even 3 or 4 all at the same time and nothing can slow me down. That is until the caffeine wears off. I’m sure everyday coffee drinkers just pour another cup and continue on, but being a once in a blue moon drinker, that was it. Now I’m sitting at my desk lethargic and wondering when the day is going to end. I’m not one to get addicted to things. I tend to stay away from anything addictive because it’s usually bad for you. I know it’s fun to do bad things but it most likely won’t end well. I understand how people can’t get through their day without their morning coffee. I do know though that it is not for me. Yes it seems fun and you feel really productive but it would just turn into another bad habit. Once again this will be another addictive substance that I am passing like Tom Brady on. And I just wrote that last sentence and laughed out loud to myself how cheesy it was.
I have a tame weekend coming up. I need to meet a roofing contractor on Saturday morning at 830 so that buzz kills my Friday and I have a German supplier flying in on Monday so I don’t want to go in feeling like shit, so I have decided to take it easy on Saturday too. Hopefully this will be one of my more productive weekends and I can do some holiday shopping and get to the gym or play some ball.
