My stint in the suburbs has come to an end. This will be the last weekend there. I will admit that there certainly are some pros to living in the burbs. Living in a nice house with a big yard and having a lot space gives you a big sense of freedom. There is also a calmness that seems to lead to a less stressful type of environment. Looking at the sky and actually being able to see the stars is something I haven’t experienced in years.
Some of the finer points of being at home were playing way more basketball than usual. I also led a healthier lifestyle due to more exercise and there not being as much to do in general. Everything you need is seemingly closer in terms of nearby stores. I also got to play tons of ping-pong which is something that looks like it is coming with us to the city. I even got to catch up on most TV and spent plenty of time reading.
The cons are that it’s boring. Drinking and driving is a concern in almost any nightlife activity which can be a real pain in the ass. Living at home is also something that isn’t brag worthy to most normal females. My commute from home to the city would total about an hour and this is the main reason I’m so anxious to move. Spending 2 hours in a car is honestly the biggest waste of time I can think of. My dad has been doing it for 40 years and I guess he just never got the memo. Moving 5 minutes away from work will increase the quality of my life exponentially when compared to the amount of money that is costing me. Adding two hours a day is something that there is no price for. So with that in mind, I’m pretty excited to be moving away from that lifestyle and into something more active socially. Goodbye suburbs.
