What’s going on?

By |2011-11-13T10:08:28-05:00November 13th, 2011|My Life|1 Comment

Just a quick update on what I’ve been doing. Thursday night CK4 and I went to Mad River to see GoGo Gadget which was pretty entertaining. I probably drank about 10 beers and a mind eraser but was still able to make it to work at normal time. I did run into the Shee at Dunkin Donuts which he thought was hilarious. After work I went to Nikkii’s house with Ck4, the Shee and Bake and we went out in Doylestown. The first bar we went to was fairly small but packed with people. In hindsight I think we should have stayed there longer but we decided to go to the Freight House where “cougars” prowl. I started talking to this one girl from Latvia who said she has lived in NJ for 20 years. I kept treating her like a foreign person and she started getting annoyed. Then she said I was only talking about myself (if you know me you know this probably wasn’t the case) and I asked her what she liked to do and she said painting and art. That pretty much bored me to death so that was the end of that. On a funny side note, the Shee was talking to Zora from Joe Millionaire and was invited to her spinning class.

I woke up on Saturday early to get a haircut and was half bombed sitting in the barber chair. It was weird conversation with Joe who at one point asked me what the freakiest thing I’ve ever seen on the internet. I copped out and didn’t give an answer even though I’ve seen some things. After that I went to BestBuy and bought a Led Zeppelin CD called MotherShip (it’s like a greatest hits) and drove to see Sam’s race at DeSalles. The drive was an hour and I was basically blasting Zeppelin’s hits on the way there and back. It was honestly awesome. Trampled Under Foot is awesome loud. You can read about Sam’s performance here. After the race Primetime had a football game. Our team name should probably change but it is what it is for now. There’s not a whole lot to say. Their QB threw 5 ints throughout the game (Bake 3, Me 2) and we were trying different QB’s. We were up 20-0 at halftime and then got lazy in the 2nd half. The other team was actually driving to tie the game at the end but couldn’t get there. Some highlights from the game were Big Steve’ sweet one handed catch, Shee’s wounded duck long bomb on his first pass attempt, Jess Baker’s multitude of catches, and CK4’s 0-4 passing series. And how can I got an entry without mentioning JKash not dropping passes except for that one that was severely underthrown…

After football I decided to not do anything. I didn’t go out last night and I feel pretty good about that decision now. I was hurting during the day and was happy for some much needed rest. It gives me the ability to write this post at 10am and I’m also going to hit the gym and buy some things I need before football starts. My shopping list includes jeans, t-shirts, cheese (I keep vulturing Steve’s), XTC or OMD CD (hard to find) and milk. No sports bets were made this weekend either as I cashed out the majority of my money. I’ll look at the games and make an edit before 1. Big week in fantasy as playoffs near.

6 Feet Under Points

By |2016-10-29T13:52:38-04:00November 13th, 2011|Tv|1 Comment

I’ve been watching 6 feet under which is a very smart show. I write some things down every so often that I pick up throughout each episode and finally have enough to create and entire post. Here are some things I’ve learned.

  • You are supposed to flip your mattress every 14 weeks. I think it’s been about 5 years since I’ve flipped mine so I’m a bit overdue.
  • David was shown in a scene brushing his tongue which is something I’m aware of but never do. I feel like the brush on my tongue makes me want to gag and vomit.
  • On a hardback novel, Nate used the book jacket to mark his page. I’ve never used a book mark and just turn the corner of the page I’m on down. I’ve never even though of using the book jacket.
  • Dead people need to be embalmed so they don’t rot. Sort of common sense but I wasn’t really aware of the process and didn’t know it was called embalming.
  • “One things is certain, everything changes.” I just liked the quote. That was what I got through 7 episodes so I’m sure I’ll post more because I find it interesting.

Reality Check for JoePa and the Students

By |2011-11-10T17:31:30-05:00November 10th, 2011|My Brain|2 Comments

I just read this article that explained how PSU students were rioting because of the decision to fire Joe Paterno. We need to step away from Happy Valley here and really understand why vocally supporting JoePa makes you a clueless moron who is just being pulled by group think (I’m not sure you’ll find many supporters for JoePa outside of Happy Valley). To be as brief as possible regarding the situation, JoePa told the athletic director, who is also corrupt, about an incident where his former defensive coordinator was found raping a young child. You spend the next 10 years acting like nothing happened (and feeling you did your part) because you don’t want the bad publicity that comes along with it. After reaching your milestone in wins, coincidentally the story comes out (can someone explain why it took so long) and all hell breaks loose. He lived with this information knowing that a monster was on the loose. This monster is probably his friend but he had the power to stop this and he chose not to. This man is one of the most powerful men at PSU and if he spoke, people would listen. This is bigger than football. Joe Paterno lived with this information and did nothing year after year because he wanted a record. He put the game ahead of humanity and I honestly believe that. I know he’s done tons of good for the organization but I for one have to wonder what goes through the minds of these frenzied fans if this is the reality of the situation. Supporting him is supporting immoral, irresponsible and inappropriate behavior.

Criticism – The Achillies Heel

By |2016-10-29T13:52:30-04:00November 10th, 2011|My Brain|0 Comments

With another interesting point from the Chris Martin interview with Stern, Chris said that Coldplay takes a lot of heat from the critics and that paying attention to it is like the Achilles heel of the music industry. I thought this was a really good comparison because it’s a small segment but it can still hurt nonetheless. Consider this, The LA review wrote this about Coldplay in 2005, “But put them all together and they add up to Coldplay, the most insufferable band of the decade.” These are some pretty harsh words and to be able to work past criticism like this has to be a hard thing to do. I’d probably have quit if one of the most prominent cities in the music business just said I was awful.

To bring this full circle here are two comments left on my blog under the Brandi Passante Mug Shot post.

I think you are a douchebag for posting something like this.
Rabbit 9 November 2011 at 3:40 am Edit #
I agree with joesixpack. That’s 2 votes for “You are a douchebag.”

So two people think I’m a douchebag for posting information about a “D” list celebrity. Now I’m not saying this really gets to me but lets say this current blog and these comments were all multiplied by 10, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t appreciate people telling me what I do makes me a douchebag. Honestly, my intrigue of developing a huge audience for this blog would only lead to more comments like these. I just give a lot of credit to celebrities because it’s impossible to make everyone like you and critique is part of the business. Building armor to it is probably necessary to persevering through.

No they don’t

By |2016-10-29T13:57:37-04:00November 9th, 2011|Tv|0 Comments

Brookes lent me the first season of the 6 Feet Under the HBO series and I’ve just started watching. In episode 3 when David and his mom are talking about a major corporation takeover of their small funeral home she says “things will work out, they always do.” David replies “no, they don’t,” end scene. I tried Youtubing the clip but it’s a 15 second segment of episode 3 and not exactly a crucial moment to the the show so you can’t find it. About 5:40 of episode 3 if you have HBOGo. Yes Brookes, I’m using HBOGo instead of the DVD’s and this isn’t a sleight. It’s because I don’t like going through the DVD process. The menus bother me and the physical process of changing discs has made me stop watching DVD’s. It’s sort of bizarre because I’d imagine the quality is better than HBOGo, but Go is far from bad and it doesn’t really bother me, plus it’s always at my fingertips. Let’s not get off point here because if you didn’t lend the DVD’s, I wouldn’t have started watching it. I’ve gotten carried away from my main point of the post. The reason I thought that sequence was funny was because it’s such a mom thing to say to try to make her son feel better, but possibly not the most practical advice. The statement can be taken as a God believing mentality that in your life, God will make everything work out. How else could it “always” happen. It’s just a weird word to say taken literally. I just wonder if people really think that everything will always work out and that’s how they go through life. It’s a really positive way to live and I think that might be “God” aiding them when things do work out. I put the God in quotes because even if there is no God, this mentality has a greater chance of success because you think it’s going happen. There’s this book “The Secret” where the secret is that if you want to do something, make it happen. People are attracted to you because you are trying to make it happen. David’s answer is the I’m living in the real world and I have to prepare for what probably can happen. David saying that this won’t work is his cynical side, thus non believing in a higher power. Now this is only the 3rd episode so I’m not really sure what religious beliefs these characters have but I still think it’s an interesting exercise. It relates to real life because this planet has had its share of hostile takeovers and the people involved really do get forced into doing it. It’s neat how you can use a series like this to display this scenario. I know I bounced around a lot her but I think this post still had some meaning even if you didn’t see the scene.

Chris Martin on Howard Stern

By |2016-10-29T13:52:00-04:00November 9th, 2011|Celeb|0 Comments

I’m going to assume that most people didn’t hear the Chris Martin interview on Howard Stern. In fact, I bet most people probably are either too cheap to pay for Sirius or if they do, think Howard is crude, rude and just a bad person that isn’t worth listening to. If you’re like my mom, you think both. I’m going to come right out and say it, I’m a Chris Martin fan after this interview and Howard is one of the best interviewers on the planet. His interviews are real and the interviewee starts to act like themselves instead of putting on a show for whatever audience some random TV program is trying to appeal to. A little FYI that no one will have any idea what I’m talking about, Brett Ratner was replaced as the Oscars producer for some comments he made on Howard’s show Monday about how he had huge balls and he made all his girlfriends get checked out before he went out with them. Anyway, back to Chris Martin, I’ve never really been a huge Coldplay fan. I sort of lumped them in with the Dave Matthew’s fanboys and didn’t give them a chance. I also thought their music was for sissy’s and gays. Some time a few years ago Sirius made a channel that only played Coldplay and I solely listened to that for the week or two it was on. I didn’t love their music but I enjoyed certain songs. After hearing Chris Martin and quick witted, how cool he acts and the fact that he’s married to Gwyneth (who loves anal) really put him up notches in my book. Plus, and this is the kicker, hearing him play “Paradise” live in the studio really makes you realize how talented he is. Gaga played in Howard’s studio live and it had the same effect on me. I’d actually almost buy their new album Mylo Xyloto after hearing this interview. Howard does have disgusting and completely stupid skits sometimes but he hits home runs with big star interviews.

Premature finish

By |2011-11-28T22:04:56-05:00November 8th, 2011|My Brain|1 Comment

Perhaps I was too hasty in this decision if Jkash is comparing my popularity to Smokin’ Joe. Not to mention YoungCaseHo was wondering where my thoughts were on the PSU debacle. Meaning that people do read this and probably do enjoy it from time to time. Here’s my dilemma and my solution. My dilemma can be explained in this example. Tonight we played a BBall game at Ambler that I could go into detail about. I think that maybe 10 people would actually care. This isn’t enough to make this blog meaningful. This is the current problem because when I’m putting all this effort into these entries, it’s nice to feel like the audience gives a hoot. So here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to continue this blog exactly as it has been going until 1,000 posts. That’s about 2 months of material. In the meantime I’m going to work on this other website that I think will reach a broader, more defined audience. I know that seems like an oxymoron but I think it works. So when I’m ready to unveil my new site (which none of you will care about), I’ll at least have finished this current website with 1,000 posts which is an achievement that I’d be surprised if many people can say they’ve done. So that’s my thinking for the future. An just so Casey knows, my only thought to PSU is that if the upper level heads of the program would have come forward in 2002 when they were aware of it, none of this would be snowballing to where it is today. Seems timely that they bring it to light after JoPa’s 409th win is in the books. Bake told me tonight that the number of boys coming forward is up to 20! I hate to say it but it really ruins JoPa’s reputation for the record books and tarnishes his achievements. Serves him right though for waiting. They all deserve what comes to them in the form of punishment.

Announcement

By |2011-11-08T17:27:36-05:00November 8th, 2011|My Brain|2 Comments

I have some news regarding rnningfool.com. I’ve been considering putting my efforts towards a different site. Now you’ll remember that I tried this before but that was with the idea that I would just maintain two sites equally which wasn’t plausible. Essentially, I’m deciding whether or not I want to keep keeping up with rnningfool. As you can see from my post count of last month and what will surely be a low post total this month, I’m slacking off. I’m just tired of writing about things that nobody reads. The site says that 7,000 people a month come to the website which is fine but with 65% bouncing that leaves 2,550 people a month reading my material. Now this seems like a lot except when you start breaking down that if 10 people visit the site daily, that’s 300, or 11% of those 2,550. The bottom line is that there are probably a few people who like reading this site but there’s nothing at the end of the road for me. It’s always been fun to me but I’m starting to get squeezed for ideas. Or if I can’t think of anything that what I do think about isn’t very good. It feels more like a chore than a fun thing.

This is post# 897. This isn’t a website that is in its infancy. I have been unable to progress past this point of fake traffic and actually get an audience. It’s obvious my life is not captivating enough to bring in the masses. That being said, it’s time for me to try something new. I’m not flushing 897 posts down the drain but I can’t have months of 60 posts. I think it’s also a little disappointing from the standpoint of reader interaction. I’m not sure what to expect but I know that if Sam, Laura, Mark (I don’t want to discredit everyone) and I want to go into a room to discuss topics, we don’t have to do it through our websites. I’ve learned a lot about creating your own website and I think I can create something more specific to something I like. General, personal blogs aren’t what generate huge traffic unless people who don’t know you find what you are writing about interesting. My audience is my friends and some random people who search for Brandi Passante. This isn’t exactly ideal. I know that google is looking for specific oriented sites to a certain topic and with this experience, I think I can create a better, more enhanced, website than this. I can’t spend as much time with this site and hope to accomplish something better. I think this will disappoint a few more people (the Shee, Bud, W, Jkash – the only other person to create an entry for me, Evan, Jess Baker, and Stackhouse) but it’s just not time well spent. If I didn’t mention you and you read often, my apologies but in the give-take portion of my blog… Once again, this site will not be shutting down but you’re probably better off checking in weekly opposed to daily. I’ll keep up to date with any other projects I do.

They say it’s your birthday

By |2011-11-07T17:01:23-05:00November 7th, 2011|My Brain|1 Comment

So yesterday was my birthday and I’m happy it’s over. I just don’t like the whole idea behind a birthday and the “forced” fun your supposed to have. It just comes off as extremely fake to me. To add to the falseness of a birthday is the facebook wall posts from people who don’t really know you. I’ve considered just writing an equally false response to all the people who false cared wrote on my wall. I probably won’t do it but I think it’s a funny idea. “Dear long lost friend, thanks for caring enough to write a birthday message on my wall. I assumed that since we barely communicated in high school, never talked through college, and I haven’t seen you in 10 years that we’ve grown apart. Glad to know you still think of me. How’s life?” I’m going to guess that not too many people would expect this or know how to respond. Anyway, I’m pretty happy I survived my birthday and this is the longest time away from when I have to deal with it again which is a good thing.

The whole getting older thing is sort of a bummer too. Generally getting older isn’t something that you have to think about on a day to day basis but your birthday just throws it right out in the open. Yes it’s cool when you turn 21 and now you can legally get wasted at a bar but everything after is just not exciting. Like it really sucks. I’m amazed people get as pumped up for their birthdays as they do. I think that some people don’t go all out every weekend so their birthday is an excuse to get wasted. My regular weekends aren’t really that much different than a birthday weekend so that could also be partly why it doesn’t lift my spirits. I’ll use another post to go over a few things that have been going on in my life but I want to stick this post to why November 6th, isn’t a special day.
