I disagree about Rose, betting on your team to win is bad too.

Example: You bet $10,000 on your team to win. You are losing 6-4 in the 7th with one out and a man on second. Your starter is done, but you burned out a lot of your pen the night before. Do you:

1) Pull the starter for a subpar reliever who will likely give up another run?
2) Push the starter to finish the inning so then you need two more pitchers instead of three to finish the game?

Sometimes losing a game is OK in baseball. You can't burn out your staff trying to win 1 game out of 162.

Will the $10,000 bet affect the manager? I don't know, but just the fact that I can question his motives is very bad for the sport and his leadership of the team. I can even look at that example and wonder why his staff got used up the night before, did he have a $20,000 bet?

Saying Rose is OK just because he bet his team to win is looking at the problem at the very high level and doesn't take into account the day to day choices that can affect the team or even someone's career. What happens if you push the starter when he is tired and he blows out his arm?

You just can't have those type of questions flying around a sport. Bad business.
