It has an addictive element that you can only understand through experience. It shows an insight into human personality that is like a smorgasbord of nature. You ever see Brazilians sing by a camp fire? What about a 3 Alabaman bros who constantly “Roll Tide” get shit faced at the bar? What about a 3 college girls in a dorm room smoking pot and acting moronic? The possibilities are endless and you can see how many other people share this fascination when a room starts loading up with hundreds of people. The commenters are just as funny. It feels wrong. It will be wrong. But currently in this unregulated live world, it’s a gold mine.

I don’t really see the social benefit of this technology. All I can really see is bad things coming from it. With other video technology (i.e. Facetime, etc.) there is a controlled connection. If you ever read FB or blog comment sections, I can only imagine how horrible the behavior on this will be. Eventually it will be monetized in some way, if not already, I suppose. Create an interesting “channel” with lots of views – start selling ad time on your “channel”.

It does satisfy this bizarre obsession people have with being a “celebrity”.

The other interesting fact is that Katy Perry has 330k Periscope followers compared to 73 million Twitter followers which shows the room to grow.
