I’m also a definite Kinks fan.

I wouldn’t say I’ve given the Smiths a proper shot. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that when they’re on, I find myself wondering what else I could be listening to.

Big Kinks fan thru college. Started with Lola and moved to Waterloo Sunset and I was hooked. I’m actually overwhelmed by their catalog and stopped listening to them. Maybe I’ll revive them today.

Curious – most people who are “eh” about the Smiths have the same sentiment towards the Kinks. Where do you guys fall?

Initially I had the same response to the Smith’s. You hear a song or two and sort of write them off as a sound that isn’t that great. They have about 2 dozen songs that are routinely cycled on 1st Wave. Most bands are lucky to have 3. Use Spotify and listen to There is a Light That Never Goes Out, Bigmouth Strikes Again, and How Soon is Now. If you don’t like their classics, you won’t like their other stuff.

The Smith’s never quite do it for me. I think they’re fine, I don’t dislike them like I do the Clash or the Doors, but I never feel fulfilled.

With all the media surrounding Beck and Kanye, I gave the album of the year a try. It’s slow, but it’s actually pretty good I think. After only a few listens, I like Morning and Say Goodbye.
